I.C.S Vortex (Simen Hæstnes, the bassist and clean vocalist) is...well.. amazing. For a little better demonstration of his vocal abilities, i suggest "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse", also from Ozzfest 2004. Or "Borknagar - Colossus" (studio version). Or if you want to go all out there, we have "Arcturus - The Chaos Path" (live Shipwrecked in Oslo 2006).
I didn't go to that specific show, but one in another place that year. The line-up was quite diverse. I don't think everyone was into black metal, some were waiting for the other main stage performers. A lot of people were sitting down, but me and my friend were standing up among a lot of the people sitting down just head banging and totally into it. They were one of the main reasons we went. Vortex and Shagrath noticed us at some point during their set, I imagine we were easy to spot when a lot of people were sitting. They both pointed to us at different times and gave us the devil horns. :D It was such a badass show. We were just in high school at the time and they were huge idols of ours. It was my friend's first time even going to a show and I remember how excited he was that we were acknowledged.
Honestly, I was gonna choose either Kings or Insight, and I went with Kings just because Puritanical is my favourite album of theirs, so personal bias. I wish they'd play Hybrid Stigmata live someday but with the crazy vocal effects I don't think they will unfortunately.
HAHAHA! I used to work in a shop selling goth punk and metal clothes and accessories, and amongst many things, we sold studs in various sizes in loose weight. Some flimsy and made for fabrics, but most needed to be affixed by being screwed on. Many a metal head and punk rocker became like choldren in a candystore when they came to get things to decorate clothes, belts and boots. Was a fun time.
Yeah !! These Ozzfest lives are the best ! Thanks for reacting to this :) During this Ozzfest 2004 while performing the Progenies of the great apocalypse, Vortex, the bassist, hurts himself somehow and then proceeds to rampage with blood all over his face... Brutal
Dimmu Borgir simply is one of the best bands in the world. They grow with every album into more perfection in every detail. thanks for this suggestion and reaction.
In my opinion they peaked on Death Cult Armageddon. Their last album didn't really have anything on it that could hold my attention at all. I hold out hope with every new release but so far DCA stands for me as their greatest achievement.
@@TheJohannes44 That album was good too. Although i prefer Enthrone Darkness Thriumphant. In Sorte Diaboli was really really good too. And Eonian is really good too. Many songs on it are really good, but sure its not like the old Dimmu we fell in love with. But thats okay because its still fucking awesome. Just a little different.
So nice to see you guys react to bassist ICS Vortex´s singing. He is a tremendous musican. I agree with the previous comments, and love Dimmu Borgir with him and keyboardist Mustis. Their contribuition to the band's work and legacy is impressive, and most appreciated by the fans. You two already reacted to "Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse" and "The Serpentine Offering" live with the choir and orchestra. I would love to see you react to a version of any of those 2 songs, with ICS Vortex, either live or the official videos. I was mindblown when i first listened to him singing. The versions with the big choir are indeed quite impressive, but him singing his parts on his own, i still get chills every single time i hear it.
This was their peak, even though Nick isn't playing here. The creativity these guys had as a whole band was just incredible. Shagrath and Silenoz truned into douches and made everyone quit. Did have a chance to meet Vortex and Galdar at a show in Virginia. Seemed like really cool dudes.
I not so secretly despise how flipping genuine you both are.... I have TOURETTES like you would not believe ☝️ THAT BEING SAID.... IT DOES NOT make a peep whilst I watch your reactions.... Be flattered 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thanks guys, much appreciated! :) The guitars on the album are much louder and sharper, as well as the drums being much clearer (+ some vocal effects), so I recommend hearing the studio version in your free time, if you want. The whole album is incredible. Thanks again, and take care! ❤
Can we just pause and marvel a moment... at how they are all big northern metal dudes, but that beast on the bass, if memory serves, is about 6' 8" of superhuman awesomeness. Between his size, his God-like vocals and a unique live playing style that's at times almost frightening, his Stage Presence... is in a league of it's own. I understand a band has to be happy together and that requires many different things working right, but it's well nigh impossible for any old-school Dimmu fan to not miss him and the lineup they had then. Please, more old Dimmu with his cleans. I think nobody in metal can touch him at that.
You guys would enjoy the studio version even more . And that's Tony Laureano on the drums, known for his work with the brutal death metal band "Nile", picked up as a replacement for Nick Barker after Dimmu kicked him out back in 2003/2004.
This is the Dimmu I remember seeing live.. Specially here at Ozzefest.. though later on they did play a more intimidate setting (Smaller Venue) and.... all i gotta say is I Miss Votex being in Dimmu.. but I love Borknagar which Votex sings for...
Heavy Metal musicians are not evil!!! I hate the stereo types. We metal musicians/fans alike are the most loving and family orientated people out there!
You need *Jared Dines* in your life - Types of metal screams - 10 metal vocalist moves - 10 ways to hold a microphone All hilarious and educational, and so so true 😂
The clean vocals of Simen (Vortex) is seriously underappreciated by many fans of current Dimmu when tehy try to go back and listen to the old stuff. I did like Nagash when he replaced Simen in 99(?) though, who was originally from a band called Kovenant (with a K) not to be confused with Covenant (with a C), that is a very different band. Dimmu and Cradle were both notorious for always changing their lineup and even trading members between eachother in the 90s. The first time I heard this song was from my gf who was as big of a Dimmu fan as I was a COF fan. 😅 Getting to see them at Ozzfest was the highlight of my year! twice.
Hey...there are a few masterpieces you must react! 1. Dark Funeral - Vobiscum Satanas Drum Cam 2. Manowar - Battle Hymn Live Earthshaker (ca 15 min) 3. Satyricon - Mother North Live With Opera !!
React to another symphonic black metal band, Stormlord, songs like Mare Nostrum, Invictus, or Mediterránea (official video). They are from Italy and their stuff is fucking amazing
Hey, you guys should definitely check out TINA SETKIC dragon force through the fire and the flames cover at 15 years old awesome awesome thanks 😊🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😎😎😎😎🎵🎵🎵🎵😎😎👍👍👍🤟🤟😊😊🎼🎼🎼👀👀🎸🎸🎸🎸💣💣🎶🎶🎶🎶💣💣💣💣❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The bald man playing the solo is named Galder (stage name), He is a kindergarten teacher in Norway!
Simen "I.C.S Vortex" Hestnaes never fails.
i came for this part 7:14 haha they love it
Odin, how i miss VORTEX on clear Vocals/Bass Guitar....
I agree.👌👌👌
Amen 🙏
Thank god we have Borknagar
@@showmannen99 Vortex in D.B. > Borknagar
Me too.
At this point Dimmu was like a Dream Team 🏀🤘
Dimmu were so much better with Vortex, Barker and Mustis in it.
Agreed!
we love them... please invite back
My favorite line-up.
Astennu!
They were, but we still have those old albums to enjoy. Sad they cant make the same stuff anymore but those albums we have are classics
Their reaction when hearing vortex's voice singing is priceless !

I watched Vortex live 2 weeks ago with Borknagar.. He still kicks ass 🤘🤘🤘 At the end of the gig i asked for a signature and i got it 🤘🥳
And here I am who unknowingly was hosting a afterparty with him attending some years ago.... Oh man I wish i knew, how young and naive I was lol
Other reactors need to react to this gem. Thank you Wolf HunterZ for doing that❤️
One of the greatest metal songs, from one of the obvious Greatest Black Metal Albums ever.

Dimmu Borgir - The Insight and the Catharsis have a clean voice too. Try it.
Honestly, I was gonna choose either Kings or Insight, and I went with Kings just because Puritanical is my favourite album of theirs, so personal bias. I wish they'd play Hybrid Stigmata live someday but with the crazy vocal effects I don't think they will unfortunately.
wacken 2007... doesnt get better than that
This is one of the best Songs on Earth
This is a must. Im still waiting for this reaction
I love singing that last part in a car lol
The boots are covers and gauntlets. I think it's costume made one of a kind. If you follow them on insta, you can ask they, what it cost.

My favorite Dimmu Borgir's song. Love when Vortex sings 🤘🎶
Vortex te hace volar la imaginación con esta obra maestra del Black Metal 💪⭐

I have that on dvd, prove me wrong but it is fake blood. Watch the clip, how could he get hurt? Look and you will see.
BRUTAL!!!
I see that live years and years and still the best of the band.
Nice touch with Nor flag on bassist guitar🤗😎

i was at that concert! I was blown by the voice or vortex!!!!! had to look him up he had opera training at a young age! His voice tho!!!! damn!
Your reaction to the clean vocals was exactly the same as mine when i heard Dimmu the first time :D

Sucks Vortex isn't with them anymore. But he's definitely a king.
Piece means reloading your guns. Those lyrics really fit the bill.
I.C.S. Vortex has the voice of an angel, a fallen angel, but an angel nevertheless.
Heavy Metal musicians are not evil!!! I hate the stereo types. We metal musicians/fans alike are the most loving and family orientated people out there!
