One of the best songs ever written, simply because Nicolas Barker wrote the drum parts... Legend!
Sad that Nick Barker went on to play in a bunch of sh1t bands :p He was made to play symphonic black metal.
nah..this song is perfection in every component. riff, drums, composition, construction, solo... everything.
My favourite DB song 🪰
Nicholas Barker.....one of the greatest metal drummers ever to have graced our ears with his skills.
This isn't Nick
@@dcmastermindfirst9418 No, it's not. Daray has been with them for quite some time now, but I'm sure the point of the comment was about Barker playing the drums on the album this song was on and actually writing and recording the original drum parts for this beauty of a song. And while watching Daray in this video (especially the last and best part from 6:47) , I couldn't help thinking I would have liked to see Barker do a drum playthrough of this :/
@tm_drummer So this isn't him.
That's what I'm saying.
@@tm_drummer It's hard to believe, but in the original the drums were programmed. Only the cymbals are "live".
Nicholas barker was the best!!!
A freakin' machine !!!!
No triggers, no digital mixing, natural sound and dynamics.
That's a drummer with huge balls and skills
takes actually bigger balls to play with triggers dude
Of course he’s playing nick barkers material lol because nick was an actual artist
Lmao behave
It takes bigger balls to hide behind a fake sample? Hahahahha .. Right.
No, it obviously takes far bigger balls to actually play your own drum kit and have everybody hear exactly how it sounds, no pretending.
How about you all enjoy this playthrough, instead of acting like total assholes and pointing out who is better and who is worse? Playing drums requires a lot of work and both of them prove it. Using triggers, not using triggers - who cares? It's their personal choice and they feel better with that.
I didn't realize how powerful Daray's blastbeats are. Holy crap this man hits hard!
I just love how loud that blast is
Same. Powerful
Pure proud of mankind - celebration of what a MAN is capable to play. A deep bow to Daray and Nicholas!
Imagine hearing your own drumming at a concert with those powerful speakers must be so crazy.
The pedal he kick is so natural... love it
no triggers here :)
@@timo8893 it's good, we are tired of ugly chemichal trigger sounds nowadays... let's hear some real Skin !
@@fandejeanpierremarielle7686 there are situations it’s absolutely needed.
Just wanted to point this out for this video
@@fandejeanpierremarielle7686 I love Triggers tho :) I think for metal triggers is the best, unless it's older powermetal stuff. The best thing to do is to mix the real kick sound with the trigger sound, like the drummer from Arch Enemy, Daniel does I know. Cause I looked it up cause the kick sounded so fat.
@@timo8893 pleanty of triggers or else you would no hear the kicks so clearly
Respect for this guy who is confronted with the style of the drummer who proceeded him
WHO IS IT???? 😮
@@christianeasley767 Nickolas Barker
Why everybody worship this guy?? This is very sloppy drumming.
@@marioburku-drummer We are waiting for you to post your version
Hellhammer was right before him during ISD and was sic af, but yeah Nicholas Barker was super fast and tight with his playing and writing of this album. Vortex was tight too. Miss the old Dimmu tbh 😅🤘🏼🖤
His snare hits on the blast beat is outstanding. Wow!
My fav Dimmu song of all time. Great to finally hear it played on a natural sounding kit!
this guy is super quick and great power to match. love daray's work 🙏
Been listening to this album again for the past two weeks. Remains a masterpiece. Very solid cover by Daray. Nice how he really tries to play Nick's parts. The little accents which makes Nick's parts so timeless.
+1 exactly what I thought.
ive got mad respect for Daray. Barker's a monster and his cymbal and splash work is insane. you crushed this cover man. this is fucking beautiful and what brought me to black metal many many years ago. thank you!
Love the sound of the snare.
I really don't. Its not terrible by any means but I like a bit more "snap" and attack, whereas this seems to have an overall warmth and smoother attack. Ax from Opeth used to have a very similar sounding snare in the more recent era of live Opeth, whereas Lopez always had that very direct, bright, snappy snare. Just imo. This guy is a monster drummer for sure, regardless!
One of the best songs ever, perfectly executed. Amazing performance.
Awesome! We want more from Dariusz and Dimmu Borgir!
I'm lucky to have watched Nick Barker play this song live in 2001 when Dimmu was still good. His amazing work in Cradle of Filth, Dimmu and Old Man's Child inspired a generation of drummers, myself included. Daray doesn't play all of Nick's parts right but did a good job. Nothing against Meinl cymbals but the Paistes that Nick used make a big difference. Dimensions 24" Mega Power Bell Ride, 13" Signature Power Hi-Hats, 2002 Power Crashes, Splashes and Novo Chinas.
Yes, I saw Dimmu in Cincinnati Ohio probably right around the same year. Nick Barker was on drums at the time.
This was back when, like you said, they were good. I haven't listened to them in well over 15 years now.
@@ericwilliams538 Same. Enthrone Darkness is Dimmu's best, IMO. Puritanical was as far as I went. Their last good album, I'd say. I didn't like Shagrath's change in vocals nor the industrial elements. I like some industrial music but not for Dimmu. Nick's drumming is half the reason I like the album. Mustis is great but I still prefer Stian Aarstad's more simplistic and catchy style.
Did you know they remixed and remastered it? There was no need for it. They killed Nick's drums and put them in the background. No personality. I'm sure Nick will be pissed. Buncha dumbasses. If anything needs a remix, it's Stormblast and Spiritual Black Dimensions.
I agree on the cymbal choise.
Dimensions were one of the best... man when I switched from Zildjian to Paiste, my whole sound changed.
@@Vorgaloth I heard all the remix/remaster and they sound like shit. comparing to the originals, the originals sound WAAAAY better with much wider sound, and better mixing in my opinion
Saw him with Vader in 2007 and even back then he was a fucking beast.
Then in 2009 I got the chance to talk to him at the music fair in Frankfurt and yeah hes a super cool and humble dude.
Well deserverd that hes getting more and more recognition!!!🤟🙂
Daray is a BEAST! Following up on Nicholas Barkers drumming is a true challenge and Daray did an excellent job!
🤘👏👏 miss these days of Dimmu. Excellent memories. Great cover brother! Nick Barker thank you man!!
I am in LOVE with that snare.
Man hitting double bass in boots. Fam has style 💯
Amazing musician and playthrough of a brutal song.
The best blast beat i've ever heard ! Sound loud
So focused, so much effort, so perfectly performed... Daray, you are a great man. Nice clear but heavy drums sound btw.
That blastbeat sound is one of the best i have ever heard 🔥🎧
Listen to the man who wrote the drums to this song/album, Nick Barker, who is one of the all-time greats. His drums sound better. Stupid Dummy Burger remixed the album and killed Nick's drums so listen to the original.
@@Vorgaloth I have been listening to that album for years. Barker is a beast on that record. The drums sounds so extremely powerful
Listen to in the Album Impressions in Blood by Vader, this man is insane
@@Vorgaloth because he used triggers in the albumn
Hellhammer has got some nice blast beats too
Definitely one of the tougher tunes to play from Puritanical and he did an excellent job. The natural sounding kit is very different from how Nicholas Barker's drums sounded on the original recording, interesting hearing the difference. Well done!
Agreed. Barker relies too much on the triggers, I find, for my taste. Sounds like his kick drums are triggered and not much else, here? You can tell he's not relying on the triggers, especially on the blast beats; he's really beating that snare but good. This dude is fantastic!
Try the new remastered version. A whole new drum sound
@@MaskedRiderChris I could be wrong, but I don't think Daray's kick drums are triggered here. Possible there might be a trigger supporting it, but it sounds like a natural kick drum sound.
@@BW_Drums Educated guess on my end is that perhaps there are room mics picking up the natural kick drum sound as well as them being supported/enhanced by triggers. In which case, he's even more amazing than I thought he was, either way. I think we can still agree he's a fantastic drummer. :)
Had the pleasure of interviewing him for my radio show a few years back. Great guy.
this song is a master piece.
New Dimmu coming soon I can feel it in my veins!
I hope!!
Let's just hope it's better than Eonian; what a massive disappointment that was, in my opinion.
Daray!!!!🤘🏻
When Dimmu makes real majestic songs!! Since In Sorte Diabolis never been the same!!
Abrahadabra wasn't that bad too. But in general, I agree.
No triggers, loved the natural sound.
That’s exactly it. No triggers.
Respect for Darray, his drumming on Vader's Impressions in blood was really good and powerful with some of the finest production and sound ever recorded.
Favourite Vader album... No idea he was the drummer.
my faaavorite vader album and still pains me to this day i cant listen to it on spotify. wonder if there's any lore behind that
impeccable blasting omg
It’s natural and perfect in every way. 🖤
There is a long way to perfection, this is a mediocre performance imao
love and respect
Monster🤟🏼
That's a freaking difficult song. It's awesome he nailed it. 👏
Great interpretation of great Barker's masterpiece! Bravo!
Fabulous Dariusz
Good luck daray!!!!!!
He is the best ❤
Sick song
Great drummer !!!!
Song of my youth.Great sound!!
Much respect for playing one of my all time favourite metal songs so cleanly!
idk about alot of people out there but i still listen to Dimmu Borgir
Much respect... No triggers or E-drums.
The drums sound so good. You did this classic justice!
On all metal records now drums are "pro tooled" ... But when you listen to that beautiful natural sound, wooowww !! Why bands do not come back to acoustic sound?
Absolutely, Wish he played the gong drum instead of the hihat during one solo hihat section just to hear that gong drum's rubble!
Daray is amazing. his performances with backing the band along with an entire orchestra. that's a lot on the drummer!!!!
Awesome! This album is a beast
Flawless. More from him please 👏👏
Powerful blast
Amazing! 🤘🏼
Such a great great drummer. Wow. The transitions were so fluid. And then All of the sections are played with such power and sense of groove. Hope he is getting good things out of the Dimmu gig and is treated well. Cause Damn he has put in a lot of work.
Nick Barker wrote the drums to this album. I recommend you give it a listen. One of the all-time greats.
@@Vorgaloth I know. But Thanks for the recommendation.
I like the fact you mentioned you hope be is being "treated well" 👍🏽 Sad to see what happened to Nick Barker, and other previous members
@@Beelos666 yeah… I’ve seen a lot of sad things and treatments on tours and behind the scenes. So have a lot of empathy for drummers, especially in metal.
great song and great interpretation and sound.. and EVERYTHING!!!
What a powerful blast! 🔥
This is real drumming !!! Daray is great
Always loved his drumming. 👋
that blast.....
Flawless playing and natural production. Love it, more videos like this need to be made rather than sample fakery
I don't know what to say. I adore Barker's drumming, and ever since he left, no drummer seemed to get the right "touch" for the songs to me - including Daray when I first saw him. Now he performs a 1:1 copy of what Barker used to play, and it sounds amazing. Especially the splash / bell accents give me a nostalgic kick in the chest, just as mesmerizing as 20 years ago.
I know right, the hits are very similar, I love it when drummers respect the original composition.
Yup. You make very, very good points. I would make them myself, but didn't even have to scroll very far down the comments.
Samus still has the best cover of this song. He's a big Nick Barker fanboy and emulates his drumming very well.
@@meowmoooink4225 Strongly disagree. Not to shit on Samus completely, but he doesn't even come close to the feeling that is needed for this song. It's like playing a harp with a roto drill. Technical drummer, but not exactly a man of restraint.
@@NilsFjandannsson Not sure what "feeling" you're talking about. I guess his whole kit being triggered could be part of it, but so was Nick Barker's on the album. In fact, Nick even praised him in interviews and in a comment on another one of his Dimmu Borgir covers.
Great respect for this incredible drummer!!! Great performance!👍👍🤘🤘
Never thought I'd see the day of an HD current day playthrough of this song. This is a glorious day. Daray has proven himself LONG ago that he's worthy of that drum chair. His version of this absolutely kicks ass.
What a drummer!!!
I’ve had the honor of watching 3 different drummers play this live and by far nick barker is still the reason why I learned blast beats \m/
Who were they?
@@O8SOL3TE nick barker, tony Lareano (played drums for nile not sure I spelled his last name right) and the man in the video daray
@@boydkronberg2632 Okay, I was hoping you'd seen them live with Hellhammer behind the kit, because I think he has the unpleasant tendency to not play the drum parts as they were originally written, even his own stuff. He freestyles too much, I was wondering if he did that too with Dimmu.
There's a Tony Laureano interview on youtube where the interviewer asks him how much room there is for improv during a live performance with Dimmu, and Tony said that the band is okay with the drummer coming up with his own stuff, as long as it's always the same on every show. And he added that before he joined the band as a live drummer, the guy they had before would play something different every night and it would kinda confuse the rest of the musicians and decrease the quality of the live performance.
But I don't know if he was talking about HH or that other session guy they had at one point, Killrich or whatever his name is.
love his blasts, very solid!!
This comes off my favorite Dimmu album
Love it
My man crushing it!
Great job Daray, hard to play this like Nicholas did, but this is excellent, and the best I've ever heard it played since him!
I forgot how much I love dimmu till now
i love how hard that bass sound since he used no triggers
Beautifully done.
wow my mind is blown
i love how he playing live with Dimmu Borgir! so much tracks!
7:21 the face of having to fill those giant footsteps Nick left to him. Fantastic job on indeed doing so!
I seen Nikolas barker played this with dimmu at the house of blues brutal!! Good memories
That snare sounds amazing! Great job on the play through. Made it look easy!
Who else knew Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia was a timeless masterpiece when they first heard it? 🤘 Proud to have that as part of my soundtrack growing up.
Daray absolutely impeccable and amazing version. Cheers and hugs from brazil/scotland. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Spetacular!!
Great playing, hard song to play, great sound, great feel! Bravo!
That grooves👌🤘👍🤩
Daray is the best! 🤘🏻💀
Un genio!! Lo mejor de lo mejor un muy buen baterista aguante Dimmu Borgir desde ARGENTINA
I love this album! 😍
Very good but, *We All Know* you cannot beat Sir Nicholas Barker! He is a True Legend but I give it to Daray for stepping up to the plate & continuing to give us great Dimmu music! 🤘🏻 Here's to the next album *2023*
He sounds just as good
I listened to this video once and somehow couldn’t find it until now! I’m very happy I found it because I love the double bass in this song! It’s addicting
For me you are the greatest drummer ever!
I watch drum playthroughs religiously, and finally seeing a legend like Daray come in and do Kings Of The Carnival Creation lit me up like a kid on Christmas! His execution was flawless and natural too!! And of course..that acoustic and natural drum sound was just icing on the cake for me. Well done, my good sir! 👏🏼🤘🏼
beautiful.
Truly underrated 🤘🏾
Nicholas Barker is a legend, I love Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia.
LOVE it!!! ♥️♥️🤘🤘
Awesome job. Good nostalgia for this album
Same here...that's why I play it at my car every day going to work
So fn powerful man..
🤟🤟
No edits, no triggers. Respect
NO TRIGGERS NEEDED FOR A SLOW SONG... DAHH
