    1. Identity your emotions,
When you feel strongly about something and start to act impulsively, take a step back and think about why you feel this way.
Make a tally in a journal each time you feel each emotion and jot down the reason why.
    2. Take responsibility and apologize whenever your impulses do take you too far
    3. Find role model and put them in your situations: ask yourself what they would do
    4. Practice cognitive reconstructering by keeping a thought diary. Write down your anxieties and try to think of alternative ways to think about your situation and whether it is worth worrying about
    5. There is something about you or your situation that you don't like:
if you can change it, work towards change
if you can't, embrace and accept it
    6. Learn to have patience
    7. Live in the present

honestly true. When it comes to this, when we think of someone as emotionally mature, it can be similar at times to think of a role model with no flaws. I think emotionally mature people gone through things and they're pretty complex at times. They may understand a person and can help them, but maybe they can't understand themselves. Emotionally maturity truly comes with growing and going through things, they are not naturally gifted. Even if you may be born with a gift of reading a person, do you understand how to communicate with them about it?

It's very important to process emotions. Did you know that crying and laughing both have the same effect? They both make you feel relieved and restful afterwards. It's alright to cry, but it's important to make your peace afterwards and move on.

If you managed to get out of bed and out of the house in this world that we live in I'm proud of you. And if you went to work while dealing with mental health and a host of health issues you're even greater to me. I'm proud of you. Even if you weren't on time I'm just so happy you showed up and completed the assignment. If you did all this using public transportation, walking, biking, out in the heat all while gushing and loosing blood and energy and nasueated because of your monthly cycle, like I did yesterday, you truly deserve to be rewarded because that is not easy at all. If you still seek work opportunities in a world that is trying to become part of the problems instead of preventing the problems and fixing the ones unable to be prevented or controlled, my hat goes out to you and a bow of respect. You deserve to be here because you make this world a better place. Keep keeping on no matter how hard it is, we know this world just wants you to give up, but we rather you be here each day doing the best you can, and don't rush, take your time so that accidents don't happen while you are trying to be your best self despite your challenges. I'm proud of you!!!

This is really a learning lesson I really need. I think my struggle is No.6 Embrace Reality and No. 8 living in the present.
The thing I struggle the most in all of this is what does make me genuinely happy.
Eversince my first heartbreak relationship back from 2014 to 2015 of January, I was suuuuuuuuuper down and I wanted to cry a lone in my room. For the past 2015 till the coming years, I tried to understand why my EX left me and what was his reasons for doing so. Although, I tried to find ways to distract me like watching my fave animes over and over again, or even doing youtube content too for mostly gaming, it took me many years to try to live in the present time. But at the end of the day when 2020 when the pandemic happened, it felt like my time stops and I always feel stuck in the rutt that I cannot move forward. It is hard for me to live in the present and it just made me recall my past experience that has been holding me back.
It is like I am punishing myself to make me happy. I enjoyed others seeing them making them happy more than my own happiness. "Peace begins with a smile" How I wish I can do that.
But my family always portrays me as a very sad person for all my life. I only smile only in short bursts when it something that makes me happy, but in the end I cannot.
And living in the present is also hard because I am holding myself back that I do not deserve to smile or be happy.

      @margaretno211 3 роки тому +46

Mother Teresa did have a dark side, all people do. It is part of emotional maturity to accept the dark side of ourselves and acknowledge that the same is true of others. Then we work on the goodness of ourselves striving to be all the good that we can become. What others do is not our problem even if they are important to us. If they are toxic we set firm boundaries, if we love them we will be patient with them as they choose to become better and if they love you they will extend to you the same courtesy .

The tricky thing with this is that, some people have the advice and are good at giving it to others, but struggle with acting on it themselves. I realize myself that I'm not even that emotionally mature, I'm working on it, but (not accussing it) my adhd, period hormones, anxiety, and depression makes it much harder. However I am trying to be better about managing my emotions in order to help me learn to become more mature.

Iʼm actually really grateful to have realised so much things at a young age. (Iʼm fourteen, yep. Cringe as it might seem but thatʼs the truth.) I realised them from my own experience and books, also from having deep conversations with my father. (Right, you guysʼ videos and the comments too!) I wonʼt say that I have went through so much, but life has taught me many. My realizations are almost all contained in this eight minutes video. And even though Iʼve learned a lot, I am still learning to embrace myself. Some people such as friends and my mother criticize my appearance, mostly my mother. I am actually very hurt but does not show it directly, because I know they are just concerned with how I display myself. (Or maybe Iʼm just reassuring myself, haha.) Like said in the video, donʼt dwell on the past too much, or worry about the future excessively too. Make your moments enjoyable, for your time are limited. No one can stay immortal, and it would be better if you start now if you want to do something. Thanks for the video, Psych2go! And for those that read this one long comment of mine. ☺️☺️

I've realized that maturity is accepting reality without complaining, but not only that, it's also a powerful tool called understanding, we understand situations and past events better than in the past, and it's also forgiving others (our parents, our friends, our enemies, etc...)
When we are children, we have dreams, fantasies and what ifs for the world we have a vision for an ideal world and we find it hard to accept other people's realities, we are naive and innocent, but then everything bad happens and we just can't understand the reason, and we think wrongly and have a cognitive distortion
But i've learned that emotional maturity is like a brush that cleans our eyes and our vision, giving us a better understanding, of course, you don't have to abandon your ideals, values and feelings, but you have to rethink your actions, reflect on them, and realize the truth, and by accepting the truth, we can become better versions of ourselves, but remember that life isn't perfect and no one is, and soon enough, we will live in a better world, a world without pain, horror, murder and wars, it'll be over soon

I feel I already am doing all of these, not perfectly, but I am. The only one I struggle with recently is the last one about focusing on the present rather than the past and future. I focus too much on the past and future and how it impacts my life rather than on what I'm doing currently in my life. I'm trying to change that though and focus on my life currently and what decisions I need to make that are best for me. I'm not saying I'm perfect, I still have moments or days when I lose it and don't have a calm collected control over my emotions. It takes practice, but with it you learn to be a better person.

thank you so much for this video.. this morning, i had an argument with my father and then my younger brother, because they wouldn't listen to me and they tend to "know it all". that mother teresa part really resonated with me. hopefully, i am going to remember your advice: to ask myself, "what would mother teresa do?" 😇💗
