Do you have to install anything (I think it's call gutter outlet) on the gutter where cut to make the hole bigger ? i don't know if it wasn't installed because the gutter guards where on the way. Please let me know I'm trying to do the same to my gutters 2x3 too small. Thanks🙏
You should be fine just adding larger downspout. They do make screens to put over downspout drop but they don't work in my opinion. If you have decent gutter guards you should be fine
@@Lifes_Apprentice thanks for your reply I meant when you cut the hole in the gutter there is something that goes in the hole where you would connect your down spout I think it's called gutter outlet. Is that necessary?
@@mactonytony Ahhhh! I know what you mean. we call that a drop tube. They are not vecessary. we just cut into gutter and fold into downspout. this way wou have no caulk or screws at downspout drop
How can you remove just a middle section of the downspout? I have 2x3 galvanized downspout that goes straight down into a cast iron drain pipe. The downspout has a short section that receives the 2x3 downspout on top, with circular shape on the bottom end, which goes into the cast iron drain pipe. I want to remove this "union" piece between the 2x3 downspout and the cast iron drain pipe so I can check for a clog there (and possibly snake it). Is there a standard technique for removing just this bottom section of the downspout without taking down the entire downspout? If I cut out a middle section of the downspout, is there a way that I can splice in a new repair piece without removing the entire downspout? Thanks.
@@Lifes_Apprentice do you need to remove the straps holding the remaining sections so that you get enough play to splice in the new section? Or is it possible to splice in without moving the remaining downspout sections?
You just reminded me of my gutters need to be cleaned ha ha or stop being lazy and install gutter guards . I’ve never heard of that being called a nut runner .
It really depends on the grade, water table, and the house. If the grade is good and there is no basement you might not need it at all. The soil in your area and amount of rain you get also play a role in your decision. You can make them as long as you want. The average person has 2 to 4 ft in my experience...not saying that is right always
Perfect content, no time wasting and a lot of short cuts that would never occur to a first timer.

those screws seem really long? were hte logn ones used to connect the downspout peices together (not the wall)
You want small screws to put downspouts together and longer ones to connect to the wall
Are pilots holes only necessary for rivets, but not screws?
correct

you can cut it in half and put it back together. you will have to make a new male end on the downspout so it fits inside the other piece..

@@yusuihang you will probably have to remove the straps in most situations
Good video...thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Is there any way to fix the bottom portion? Someone stepped on mine and water still flows but I'm afraid of it backing up! Help please!
if it is flattened you can just cut it off where it is good or you may need to get a new piece for the bottom
Not what I wanted to hear 🤷♀️but thank you for the response!
I'm not sure about folding the downspout. What if someone folds it and forget to put it back?
Thank you
Welcome!

Cool
Well as far as I know they lower part should be at least 6 ft. long to lead the water away from the building The piece is for sure shorter.

Rivets?
