I'm genuinely curious as to why you don't just have a little box in the corner with the name of the visual. Any particular reason?
Thank you so much for this!
That SpongeBob scene in the Montage is by far one of the best and most realistic depictions of Super Speed ever put to screen
Yo, this is so underrated
Wanna see me do it again?
So simple yet so good
Urgh
Wanna see me read the encyclopedia
Wanna see me do it again
I did not expect Kabuto here. Very nice.
Absolute best
Grandma once told me, people who watch Kamen Rider Kabuto are based
well now i’m expecting it. thanks
If he wants to do a part 3 get trial or faiz timer
Came here for Kabuto.
One of the things I liked in Zack Snyder's Justice League was Wonder Womans hair physics. Most times movies get the hair physics wrong. But Wonder Womans hair was whipping around like it probably would if a person really were moving at speedster speeds.
True! Hair is so hard to manage in speed!
Same like Makkari in Eternal
But how do you know what hair would looking like moving at speedster speed if you haven't seen one in reality 🤔
@@renziie2804 drag something around or just a rope or a water hose and try to move in multiple directions erratically. longer hair tends to be more dragged along and that makes it harder to manage in super speed.
A shame he got their whole essence wrong, but at least her hair looked cool.
I really appreciate the Wonder Woman sequence. Most superspeed is slow mo and image blurr. This was actually a person moving visibly fast. Same with civil war
also Makkari one
It looks awfull lmao
@@astk5214it would've looked better if there's more environmental effects from it like in Man of Steel
It was ok.
I have watched one of the recent wonder woman movies and when she did like a spider man web swing move it looked like it was made by a teenager during the class
Holy fucking shit it was so bad
I love the idea of the cgi artists testing the super speed animation on themselves for Zoom. That's great.
That's how a lot of CGI effects are tested! Its as funny and goofy as it sounds. There are a lot of early youtube CGI tutorial/demoreel-esque video tests of cgi effects floating around out there.
Happy that Kamen Rider made it into the video, people should really check it out. Kamen Rider Zero One also had some cool ways of showing speed.
I love seeing Kamen Rider getting attention.
Or fail and drive þype speed(sadly), or ohma zio and decade
Or red buster
Zero one is slowly becoming my fab
I love it when non-Kamen Rider channels mention Kamen Rider, even though hearing you pronounce Kabuto wrong broke my soul.
I regret the error :(
@@y.reviews it's fine, I don't even like Kabuto all to much, I prefer to OOO and W
I'll take someone mispronouncing Kabuto over people calling Kamen Rider "Japanese Power Rangers" any day
The bane of enthusiasts
@@federalexpressman9762 very fair my friend
Please turn this into a series exploring other powers as well
flight is so interesting.
@@projekttaku1 Definitely. From levitation to biological wings to technological gadgets and magic, there's just so much variety.
@@_S_P_A_C_E_M_A_N_ and the way its evolved, from the more gentle levitating of christopher reeve to the thrust of henry, or smallville's "bullet air distortion effect" that they repurposed from their speed effect.
More might be coming. Stay tuned.
@@projekttaku1 Yeah, and despite how anime is taken, I think Dragon Ball's take on flight is a great choice to analyze. Most of the time, the speed and air change of high altitude would cause your body to grow too cold, or bugs/birds/other flying fauna to hit you smack dab in the nose, but Dragon Ball handles that with such intense heat circulating the man in flight, that all of it is nullified! I think people fail to consider things like that, and whether it was intentional or not, the man innovated in a way most people don't even consider. I mean, I've swallowed bugs while riding my bike, I can't imagine what else you would hit if you were flying in the air at Mach 5!
You forgot one detail in megamind, that when metroman is "detained" in the copper ball over the observatory, before we even new he had faked his death, there is a split second in the movie where he desapears and reapear, its so cool to see this detail and view his speed through megamind's eyes.
Obs: Sorry if there is any mistake in this, english is my second language.
I went back to check and couldn't spot it. Maybe he was just that fast...
@@y.reviews it actually is fast hahahaha, nice, but that is actually ok, your video is still awesome.
@@y.reviews ua-cam.com/video/uVmCxpsNj3M/v-deo.html It's where both Metroman and Megamind are on the ridiculousness large screens looking at each other. Metroman seems to go transparent for blip and there's a blur behind Megamind.
I saw it. It’s fast, but it’s a visible glitch. It’s after Megamind says ,”FIRE” and there is a long awkward silence.
The implications of Hammy moving faster than the lasers are extensive
how much faster than light is he? Considering he also collect an entire winters worth of food too
It's a shame Pucci was relegated to the montage, because I think his is a great example of the terror super speed can provide. Almost every time you see a speedster, either they're a hero, or they're currently fighting a speedster hero, so you get the accelerated perspective. Pucci is not like that. Pucci is the only speedster in the battle, and he is explicitly an antagonist, so you never get his perspective.
That's TERRIFYING, because once he starts to go fast, you NEVER get a clear look at him unless time is stopped and he can't move, or he actively chooses to stop in order to monologue or glare. They constantly lose track of him, and when that happens, you don't get to know where he is either. His attacks are so fast that the damage is dealt well after his blur has vanished, if there's even a blur at all. You get NOTHING to work from unless he chooses to let you have something. It absolutely shows the terror of a threat so powerful it can only be born through a holy ritual to achieve Heaven itself.
Underrated coment
If only that final battle had better animation :'
Yeah JoJo always does a real great job of truly making you afraid of the villain’s power. When they first meet Dio in part 3, no one even knows what his powers is and he just keeps moving from place to place in the blink of an eye. Even after discovering what his ability is, it’s still tough to truly find a way to counter it.
With Pucci, they start off thinking they have the upper hand because of Jotaro’s stand ability to stop time like Dio did, but his power is directly affected by Made in Heaven and it’s ability to speed things up. It cuts his ability duration in half, and Pucci is even fast enough to react to what Jotaro does while in stopped time which makes it even more difficult to counter him. They basically had to sacrifice one of their friends in order to even try and get a hit on him, and even then Pucci outsmarted Jotaro by putting Jolyne in harm’s way which made him too late to reach Pucci and damage him at all.
@@freddycashbear2164 I don't think that's true. Pucci had a lot of knives to throw at Jolyne, he probably just held on to one and used it to cut Hermes' arm off.
It's still one of the scary things about speedsters, though. A speedster comes at you with a knife and you can't even process what they did before your limbs are no longer attached and there's a hole in your heart.
which season and episode is this scence from?
Kung Fu hustle is genuinely one of the greatest films I’ve ever seems and it needs more appreciation
True, movies at this budget have so much more character than the 100's of millions blockbuster stuff.
20milliom is still alot of money but the creatively is being flexed very well.
Shaolin Soccer 👀👀
Since you mentioned Pucci in the speed montage, I just wanna point out that the whole sequence of the world speeding up to its eventually collapse is visually fantastic. You can see the sun and moon blazing across the skies until they literally smear into a huge arc of light across the sky. Idk if it really counts the same as super speed, but it’s just such an amazing visual representation of super speed in general that I thought I’d point it out.
yeah it was so cool that now im a huge sucker for “sun go fast” videos
Yeah it's definitely not super speed. If anything, the perception of other living things in the universe is super slow, as people are perceiving the universe speedup to the point where it restarts.
I love how at 13:16 the light frequency is slower than the shutter speed of the camera causing it to flicker making the illusion of speed more believable. Thats something I have not seen in any other show/movie
Hadn't taken note of that, that's really neat
Makkari's depiction of super-speed is one thing most others aren't: it's beautiful and mesmerizing. Wonder Woman's rapid bullet reflect is hypnotic to watch.
I know that Billy Whizz from Beano hasn't had a live-action or animated adaptation (as far as I'm aware), but it's always surprising he gets left out in the larger discussion of speedsters.
3:07 you’ve earned my respect for adding Kamen Rider Kabuto.
The invincible transition is a masterpiece 8:20
Kamen rider kabuto is the goat
I'm glad that didn't go unnoticed :)
Glad to see Yoyo here. Agents of shield was my favorite show when I when I was younger
That SpongeBob Squarepants bit on the montage was just gold.
Happy you caught that.
Well i wouldn't say the Kamen Rider series was "rising in popularity", it was always a pretty big success
Also the last thing i expected was for this to be here goddamn
Also not to nitpick but that's not how you say Kabuto
KAH-buto is that right?
@@y.reviewsKamen Rider was always a massive franchise in Japan since the 70's, bigger than Marvel, too. In fact, it inspired so many things in anime many (or most) people are not aware of, such as Mumen Rider from One Punch Man or even Great Saiyaman from Dragon Ball. Its sister show, the slightly (and I mean SLIGHTLY) less popular Super Sentai is where the fight footage for Power Rangers is taken from to be edited with American footage.
Well technically speaking it was *regaining* it's popularity after being on a hiatus in the 90s.
The best part about Kabuto is that one of the insert songs for the show is called "Lord of Speed." And recently that's being rivaled by Boost Mk 9 Kamen Rider Geats.
Whenever I see anything in kamen rider related to speed, I will always immediately compare it to kabuto. And with boost mark 2 and 9 I also thought if they might be faster than clock up. The answer is no though. When geats goes fast it's more of a "Flash" fast where he is constantly accelerating forward and attacking as he passes by (yes I know flash can get fast enough to have things stay still around him), instead of being fast in away that time practically slows down (again, it's not called *clock* up for no reason) like kabuto. I will be very disappointed though when the day comes that another rider will become faster than kabuto as that kabuto being the fastest rider was what made him special in comparison. (Decade and zi o don't count they're anniversary, they're allowed to have other riders' abilities.)
I know Sonic was already mentioned and this doesn't really count as a movie, but the opening cutscene in Unleashed is still perfect in showcasing Sonic's speed and how he uses that speed to tear through Eggman's army. Marza did a great job and I wish we had more.
Ayee kabuto! Love the vid man, well done
I loved the portrayal of Flora’s super speed in ‘I’m a Virgo’. And that they gave us time to see the world through her eyes, and how lonely it would be. Bonus points for using a motif that sounds like the score for the gifted kids in ‘Akira’.
That snail is fast!
Weird that I was just watching Kabuto less than an hour ago. (No way algorithm could link to this that fast)
Algo was using hyper clock up to get you this vid
Congrats on your big break dude! Great stuff you've been making!
Thanks for putting in Jojo's at the end. I'll always think that Dio's time stop is the most badass way to show off speed
Can it really be considered super speed?
@@gustavosauro1882Seconded
@@gustavosauro1882 good question.
Since Star Platinum and The World are the same type of stand, I think it can be considered super speed. Since it is impossible to actually stop time and live/see/breathe/move some people in the Community have the headcanon that these stands just move incredibly fast. I think there is also a video about that
@@escapefromtibet2530 I mean, basically all stands are already faster than light so time stop "just moving incredibly fast" doesn't mean anything especially since timestop also freezes MIH with his infinite speed(but can't stop c-moon and ta4 specifically because of gravity)
I didn’t expect the second video. I actually got the reference your first video in conversation like a week or two ago that’s how awesome video was so thanks.
Thank you for spreading the word.
The way you pronounced Metrocity at 11:11 is just golden for me. I miss Megamind
I just had to.
I literally paused the video to find a comment of a fellow Megamind lover, that also noticed that :D
Saw Kabuto and just went for it, didn't dissapoint.
I think savatar in the flash is one of my favorite examples, its just so unique visually
Ah shit kamen rider getting some recognition

Like your chill editing style and narration, well done!
Man,never expected to see shaktimaan here ... so much nostalgia thanks
Pucci from JoJo has a VERY interesting style of showing speed. I think it deserved a full segment on the video but i'm glad it made it on the montage!
Great video
What incredible research and editing! We're truly spoiled as viewers when people at home can put together quality such as this.
Spent a while on this one so thank you for the kind words.
The badass kamen rider kabuto part,
he's intentionally holding back that time cuz he is about to fight a monster who had shape shifted into his friend's dead brother. that scene with the rain drops, is when he finally got the word from his friend to destroy said monster pretending to be his dead brother.
btw that's only like, episode 3 into the series.
Wasn't aware of the plot thank you.
@@y.reviews oh, you found my comment.....
more speed scenes from this series. just look up "kamen rider faiz accel" or "kamen rider accel trial"
“It’s nice to know that over the years, and even all over the world, everyone did their part to contribute to the library of super speed effects”
Good saying👍
I love the trope of a super fast hero throwing punches on the all powerful villain, like in x man apocalypse, justice league and invincible, maybe even in rock lee vs gaara, there is something satisfying in seeing super speed being useful where all of the other powers can't match
Didn't expect to see Shaktimaan. Very nice exhaustive list
Thank you sir, for this incredibly well constructed and detailed analysis of Turbo, the snail 12:07
Thank you for including Agents of Shield.
Love your voice!! I was waiting for this video after watching the other one!❤
That Yoyo stuff was really nice.
Like some of the best speedester visualizations I've seen.
I'm so happy I found this video. I've been interested in how super speed is shown in different media! While the slow-motion time while the character is in regular time is classic, I'm a huge fan of what they did in Eternals.
@21:27 oh yeah, it’s Morbin time
*morbs all over the place*
8:23 love that you recreated how the title is revealed in pure invincible fashion haha
I was really looking forward to Hammy being introduced to caffeine in _Over the Hedge_ but was totally taken aback when they went with slo-mo for depicting ultra-speed. Absolutely hilarious! Especially the slow-moving gap in the laser beam.
Glad you mentioned Ben 10, Fast track is such a downgrade compared to XLR8.
SpongeBob has already reached the pinnacle of CGI speed.
I LOVE EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR VIDEOS . PLEASE KEEP THE QUALITY .
I think its important that directors make the decision of: "Does our character have actuall speed powers (like the flash) or can they just move very fast (like Captain America, wonder woman, black panther etc). Because the first justifies extensive bullet time like the kitchen scene form X-Men, whereas the second one looks better when shot in "real time" and without any flashy effects.
wonder woman does have speed powers.. and cap and black panther are nowhere near her... just saying
Bro put Kabuto?! A man of culture
I think David Martinez was my favorite speedster, just because of how unique and stylish his speed sequences were.
The Flash from the CW is better though.
@@JACOBDICKERSON-xz6kq 🤢
@@JACOBDICKERSON-xz6kq sorry, i thought you meant the actual show, not his speed effect

That Invincible transition was perfect. Bravo.
This entire video is super well-made and entertaining. Glad the algorithm brought you to my feed :]
As a fan of the show, I just had to do it to 'em.
This was really fun to watch! One thing I’d like to mention is that in the Ben 10 section you didn’t mention Jetray from Alien Force. Though I understand why since his speed was criminally underused and wasn’t that interesting visually.
Jetray is more of a flying alien than a "speed" alien such as XLR8 and Fasttrack
@@cxthednalien He is, but he’s also really fast, so i felt like it was worth mentioning
@@cxthednalien But one thing people often forget, is that Jetray is faster than both, since he once flew so fast he entered FTL travel
Also, never mentioned Clockwork, who slows down or even stops time at will
@@flastyy_While the "Jetray is faster than XLR8" topic is debatable,it still counts as him being a flying alien rather than a speedster like all the other people in the video
It would be off if a flying alien was included in a list with characters who run very fast
@@cxthednalien I never said he should be included, but I am saying that Jetray is objectively faster than XLR8. The latter has been outrun and still takes a few seconds to cross countries even when Ben's older, Jetray traveled through multiple galaxies in a few seconds. This isn't debatable when the shows clearly demonstrate it.
Shaktimaan, Kamen Rider, Kung Fu Hustle, Megamind, Ben freaking 10 !!! Bro just took me to a nostalgia trip.
You just unlocked so many memories when that Zoom segment played. I forgot I had ever watched that movie as a kid lmao.
Fun film.
Almost all of the fights in the first season of One Punch man are great examples too, also Omni-man, Superman, and other supermanesque characters have an interesting way of doing speed when flying
I absolutely did not expect Shaktiman here, yep the vfx is janky but its all they had and what their budget allowed and this show definitely changed the hemisphere in India when it was released, immortalising the actor who played Shaktiman
I appreciate the fact that you pronounced it Metrocity, the only correct way to say it.
I never expected to see shaktiman, power rangers and kungfu hustle in the same video,
It just gave me nostalgia..
Great video, I love how with each example how the speed effects were made were included. My favorite speedster is from Guardians of Justice. In the show two characters have access to the speed force of that universe and one of the characters uses it to write out a message for help that only the other character can see. It’s a great use of speed effects that I haven’t seen elsewhere
In a world where a speedsters should be extremely overpowered. I feel like Yo Yo was done perfectly. Extremely overpowered in certain scenarios, but lots of places where there are cracks to her power that are exploitable.
even after she discovered that she didn't need to return to her starting point, her power still had a time limit (one heartbeat). so it was still balanced.
@@jesusmora9379compare that to the flash in the Snyder cut where he's extremely op with no limits

It's just too good. And thank you.
such a plesant chill voice this dude have. about time that i hit that subscribe button. Also, speed is and will always be the best superpower in my opinion
To that last point you made: Back when he was working on MPH, Mark Millar talked about how the cool factor of superpowers is largely subjective-- but we all possess the primal desire to "go fast", making super speed the one power that every living person desires. I think that's such an interesting idea & it definitely holds water as a theory.
Your videos really make my day. Hate to see that you are so underated man. Your work is great. keep it up. You have my support!!!!!!!

Glad I could bring him back for this vid.
Nice collection of the speed scenes bro, Thanks
i read once that, more recently, we are seeing more time stoppers instead of speedster, because thats what we see them do. instead of moving fast in normal time (like jack sheperd, red rush,XLR8 or Turbo) , they move normally in slow time (like David, Hammy, Quicksilver, or Metroman) and i cant believe you left out my favorite little speedster: Dash, and his incredible speeding scene running accidentaly on water
You might want to check out Part 1 on the channel. Dash is featured heavily.
