Army Green Tacoma TRD OFF-ROAD
In this video I went into full detail on my opinion on things about my truck after having it for 9 months.
Since the Tacoma has such a large and legendary following, I hope that this video helps someone who may be interested in the Tacoma, new to it, or even considering upgrading from an old one.
As always thanks for watching and share your thoughts in the comments below!

“The radiator can slide out like a game boy cartridge” 😂😂😂 bravo
😬
I put over 250000 miles on a 2017 Tacoma, as a work truck. Other than oil changes every 5000 miles, I’ve only needed to change tyres. The only thing I hated was the fancy hood. The sun used every fold in it to shoot glare into my eyes.
Nice and ya I get that
I just wanted to say thanks so much to those who watched this video and took the time to share their tips and support! If you’re on the fence, just do it!
P.S.
Here is my updated review after 2 years of ownership! ↙️

Brian, like the video. Good review. I have seen the Tacoma panned because of the low seating position. Did you find it low (as though you were sitting just above the floor)?
@@josephversace5895 Thank you! So for me, with the seats ability to now adjust vertically AND horizontally, I am able to lift the seat slightly for the optimal knee bend during operation. So to me, no I absolutely do not feel like I’m sitting on the floor. The Tacomas before 2020 felt that way. Those seats couldn’t be raised. I can raise the seat to the perfect height now!
Trigger time, let’s be real. The stock manual trans in this vehicle sucks. I did the same as you, and wouldn’t go back unless I get another truck that I love that doesn’t offer a manual. Comment sections needs less poor and go spend 50-200k on a proper manual trans vehicle, not our outdoor truck 😂
@@TrackSlayers trigger alert! I agree with you. The purists might like that clunky feel. But we are on the same page with the automatic. But I won’t lie my $5,000 GTI VR6 was a REALLY FUN stick shift. Way cheaper than what you quoted! 🤣
@@brianruperti haha yo you aren't wrong i'm just trying to stir some engagement into your comment section 😂. great video dude. watched all the way through.
Straightforward matter-of-fact review. Love it! Gorgeous Tacoma!
Thank you!! 🙏🏼
Bro this is the best review I have seen.. I just bought my 2019 and I have learned so much about it. Now I love it so much more.. thanks again bro from Slick in Jamaica
Hey thank you so much! Congrats on your truck!!! Hearing that is all I wanted out of this video. Thank you. Enjoy your truck Slick!
Very nicely detailed review. Much more detail than most of the “professional” reviewer channels
Thank you 🙏🏼
Your forthright review is practical - i.e. controls that are in place where muscle memory can find then, in the dark, without taking your eyes of driving to search for a menu item.
When you lift it TOY offers a company kit that won’t void the warranty and that your insurance company can cover. I deal with fire patrol, mountain radio comms, emergency work. Your truck is set up right for this sort of ‘adventure’ work or fun. For adventures and off roading hundreds of suppliers have clever things to use without drilling holes if you like stock setup.
Interesting thanks for sharing that! And thanks so much for taking the time to watch my video
Loved your review. Your delivery is to-the-point, smooth, and better than about 95% of review videos of any kind on UA-cam.
Thank you so much. This comment made my day 🙏🏼
Good points about the trucks simplicity, I'm really considering getting one of these for my next vehicle.
Thanks for watching! If that simple design and sweet heritage resonates with you, run the numbers and if the numbers work, grab one!
I bought this same exact trunk back in July. It is not my first Tacoma, but it is my favorite. There's always things I could pick out and complain about but I know these trucks pretty well, and they are the best in the class.
Agree with you!
I've had mine for 4 years and have had NO problems. No issues with the transmission either! Never! Also love the looks of the stock wheels although the tires need an upgrade! Great review! With your opinions all the way!
Nice thanks for sharing! And thank you so much for your feedback
Excellent video! I just purchased a 2020 TRD Sport 4x4 & absolutely love it for all the reasons you noted. Well done.
Congrats! Thank you
Great video! I bought one myself a few weeks ago after waiting for a year and a half for the bronco. I got tired of waiting and go pushed to 2022, and I went and bought “my second choice” when I realized this was exactly what I needed, and eventually I realized I bought what I wanted. Anyways, everything about what you showed was awesome and realistic, loved your closing comments, because that is the point of why we get these things. The only thing I didn’t like was that the army green was shiny, I like it subdued or flat. I was in the Army for 18 years and it’s always flat. Great color if they could get it flat. I am considering getting mine done in flat army green vinyl wrap. But anyways!! Great job! Thumbs up!!
Hey thanks for the kind works and for watching it through! And congrats on your truck! I’m so happy to hear it worked out in the end. I totally understand you preferring flat. And thank you for your service. My brother in law is a paratrooper in the army for 6 years now and making a career out of it. Go Army! The RAM rebel TRX has the flat, but I must say, when this truck is shined and it’s sunny out, those black badges pop! To each their own. Which color did you get?
@@brianruperti it is white. I knew I was going to vinyl wrap it either way, so it didn't matter anyways. its just a little expensive :) so I need to save up for it.
@@jamiefreeland2228 I’d like to see the finished product when you do it!
@@brianruperti will do!
You should look into a matte ppf, it’ll give you the flat look you want and protect your factory paint at the same time.
Great video. I appreciate your pragmatic and sensible approach. I couldn’t agree more. Buy it, care for it, enjoy it.
Thank you!!!🙏🏼
Awesome awesome review man. I just bought a trd sport and I’m loving it. It’s refreshing to see this video because there’s a lot of complaints about things I’m not worried about. Beautiful truck
Thanks for your support! Congrats on the sport I love sports! Thank you for watching. We all come from a different place when buying.
Thank you for this video! I have been slowly paying for my '21 Tacoma and watching your video has been very reassuring..I love my Taco but I've been so worried about "messing it up"-- in case I need to sell it, in case it was a bad decision, etc.--that I haven't let myself just ENJOY the thing.
Check out my Tacoma wash video on the Tacoma playlist you may enjoy it

I know I can’t afford this financially but this was very detailed and interesting as i feel like you know what your talking about. Calming, steady voice tone as well. I like the simple things as well about this truck. In the market for an older Tacoma hopefully I can find one within budget. Nice summary ending too 😊 Thanks!
Thanks for watching and for the support!
Thanks, Brian. Excellent job you’re doing to showcase your experience with your Tacoma. You’ve just convinced me to buy one. Keep up the great work!
Hey Eric thanks for the support and that’s great! Glad to hear you’re getting one. You’ll love it
I agree with all your saying about a Tacoma. I have driven two different Tacomas for the past sixteen years and love them. Have never had any trouble out of either one. My wife drives a Lexus and she loves it. I do not believe you can have a more reliable vehicle than a Toyota.
Amen to that!!! Thank you for sharing
Good video! I have a 2021 TRD Sport (Black). I have heard all the complaints about the transmission and throttle. I don't have a problem with mine. I came from a Tundra V8 and this gear hunts alot less and is peppy on take off. I test drove a Ranger before this and it was like it didn't want to go on take off. I admit, once it got to 3-4th gear the Ranger really takes off, but that initial start was horrible in the Ranger Tremor I was in. Maybe the Tacoma "learned" my style or whatever, but I don't think it is that much different than anyone else's.
I hate the volume control, too! I'll live, but it just could be better up and down!
Great job on the video. New subscriber to you because of it!
Thank you so much! I don’t mind the shifting at all. It works fine. But if I didn’t address what it feels like, it wouldn’t be a full review. And you have a nice truck! Black is so sick. Thanks so much for subscribing! More videos to come.
SO many good points made in this video. Loved the commentary and taking the time to go through everything. Keep it up!
Thanks man!
Best review by far! Thanks bro Tacoma life!
Thank you so much!!! You’re welcome! Tacoma!!!
I'm retired Marine Corps, so I love the paint scheme , I had two of these trucks back in the day, I drive a Silverado HD now, because I need the capability, but these are sweet trucks, they should outfit them with more aggressive tires ( BF Goodrich All Terrain TA) my opinion
Thank you for serving our country 🇺🇸. My father was a Marine as well. The tundra can finally tow 12k for 2022. And yes more aggressive tires would be great. However, it was a smooth smooth ride into the Adirondacks on these stock Kevlar tires 😎
I really enjoyed your review. I like the truck as you bought it - TRD Off Road, Army Green, Black Badging - and while I'm a manual transmission guy as well, I'd probably get this with an automatic like you did. Those Tyger running boards look good, and have sorta "rock sliders" on the bottom to protect when off-roading. Well done 👍
Hey thanks for watching! I try to do small tasteful mods that play well with the overall look of the truck 👌🏼
I bought my wife a ‘21 TRD Sport in white. If it would have been for me it would have been OD (I’m a Vietnam Vet (Army, 1st Inf Div.). We are loving our Tacoma. We opted to swap out the cloth seats for leather. All in all great truck. Our other vehicle is a ‘20 Lincoln Aviator black label-grand touring, white. They look pretty good in the garage together. Great straightforward review
Thank you for your service. My father is a Vietnam vet. He was a radio man for the marines. I respect your service.
The sport looks the BEST in white. I hope you enjoy it and take good care of it. And thanks for the kind review. God bless
You have done the best review I have watched on here. I have the 2022 and love it. I do t know why so many reviews say it looks dated. Perfect for me too.
Thanks for the kind words! I did an updated review you may enjoy!
Best review yet! Thanks for putting this out.
Thank you so much! And you’re welcome
I have a 2020 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium. I absolutely love it! Kinda sluggish, but I added a Pedal Commander and it has great throttle response now in City mode. The 4.0 liter V6 in the 4Runner is what's going to make the 5th Gen 4Runner the next 80 Series Land Cruiser.
Nice truck!!!
i had the pedal commander and the god damn thing still shifted early. OV tune fixed my issue
@@wanabe014 what's the OV tune?

Nice!!! And thanks :-)
Soooooo did you get your truck yet???
@@brianruperti I did. So happy with my choice. The Army Green looks great!!! Especially when the sun hit's it. I think it's the best color. I originally wanted a 4runner but it's too expensive.

@@brianruperti Definitely do. I haven't had a new car since 2011. Just subscribed! Your channel is very informative! I liked the key fob one I saw the other day! Keep up the good work!!! 👍👍👍👍
Totally agree about the radio controls on the steering wheel. I really wish my 20 model had that climate control. I had dual zone in my Tundra and I miss that the most. Good video!
Yea the climate is nice. And thanks!
This was a great review and I enjoyed watching it. Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Was stuck between a new Tacoma or a used Ram Rebel. Sold on the Tacoma now. Fantastic review man!
Hey thanks this made my night to read!
About the steering wheel volume button issue, you should be able to pop that piece out and switch the wiring around so that the buttons do what you want them to do. Just an idea 😁
I have a 2021 super white SR5 with 14,000 miles on it, my 1st Toyota, I love this truck. The beauty of the auto is you can control your shifts over in S mode. I added a Teton custom shifter and it kinda feels like a manual shifter in your hand when you're rocking gears up or down, minus the clutch. I have 5.7 Chevy too, it likes low RPMs where the torq is, 3.5 Tacoma likes higher RPMs. I have no problems with power from my Taco and have gotten used to its power delivery. It's a surprisingly fast truck, when I give it the beans. It just may out run that ole Chevy. Your truck looks good man, I like the green.🤙
Nice truck you have! I just clocked 15,500. Another updated review is coming in spring. The Chevy must be nice. And I agree. It has plenty of power for me as well. Thank you! I upgraded a couple things as well!
Goood review. I have always loved Toyota pickups. Bought my first one in 1977, currently driving a 2020 TRD sport premium.
Thanks! Wow that’s awesome! And the premium is so nice. What color???
@@brianruperti silver sky metallic.

Good review.
I was fortunate enough to find a army green tacoma 4wd double cab with a manual trans. Everything you said about how it looks inside and out. Congrats on your truck. Imagine lifting the hood on a electric tacoma? No old school..glad we still have this. I'm sure it's in the future.
Thank you for watching! I get what you’re saying. I’m content with what I have.
Same here.
I test drive one and I’m 6’4 I actually moved the seat up a bit to feel comfy ! Hope to get a pro in white
Awesome!
I agree. Great Revie, and I have watched tooo may reviews of the Tacoma. I am soon to push the bottom on buying an SR5.
Thanks Man,, your review pushed me over the edge. I can’t wait to get to my Tacoma!!
Hey so glad to hear! I would be so excited if I was you. I’m still on cloud 9 almost 2 years in.
Bro, excellent review.
I have the exact same truck for only 1 month now.
Highly highly recommend looking into the KDMax tune. I promise you’ll love it.
What a beauty.
Thank you! And nice man! Yes you’re the second person to recommend that tune in the last 24 hours. And thanks! Did it hit your mpg too hard?
I have both a 4runner (2010 that I bought brand new) and a new 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro with manual. I would say that the 4runner is far superior. The drivetrain is much better, the seats are better and more comfortable, and etc. The fit and finish of my 11 year old 4runner is still better than my brand new taco. If I didn’t need a truck I would have 2 4runners instead. The Tacoma is great BUT it’s tough going back and forth daily. I love your Amry green!! I have the lunar rock.
Congrats on such a cool truck! Lunar rock is amazing. And thank you 🙏🏼. The army green is great I just posted a video of it off-roading. Yes I agree the 4Runners have been top shelf for many years. But hey a Taco is great too!
Love your truck! Great job on the video! I have the TRD Sport 3rd Gen. And it's the perfect fit for me. This is my 2nd Toyota truck, and I wouldn't want any other truck. Like yourself, I pretty much like everything about it, and there's not much I would change. Originally I wanted an automatic, but ultimately decided on a manual shift. It works for me, but an automatic would have been ok as well.
Thanks! What color is your sport? Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Were both your trucks 3rd gens?
@@brianruperti My current truck is pearl blue. My previous Toyota truck was a 1993 Toyota 4x4. 2 years before the Tacoma came out. It's color was maroon.
@@a2wtommy Nice colors!
Hey, would you mind sharing how decided on the Sport? Have only driven the Off- Road version thus far but am curious
@@willskissick4100 I preferred the look of the Sport over the other Trims, and I only do a little off road driving,, so I don't need the extra off road features.
Really contemplating buying a Tacoma- this review was great
Thank you!!!
Great video, exactly the perspective I was looking for.
Thank you 🙏🏼

Re wire your volume button,it's worth it.
Disconnect your batt/release the airbag/release the volume/track switch & rearrange the wiring.
It's a big fail agreed.. change it to suit your needs, you'll love it
Thanks for the tip
This really helps my decision. I’ve been in between a tundra, Tacoma, and 4 runner. I feel like the full-size Tundra isn’t worth the gas mileage for someone who isn’t going to be towing often at all. The 4 runner seems to be an amazing vehicle, but the utility of a pick up bed seems more useful for my life style. Would love to hear more opinions about the tacoma, but leaning towards it heavily.
That’s a solid point of view based on your needs. The Tundra really is made for work. Daily driving one can be done, but is it worth it? Not practical. Does practicality matter? That will help with that choice.
4Runner drives smoother than Tacoma. Tacoma gets a little better mpg. A lot of “truck guys” say it’s a truck you shouldn’t care. Those same guys also still post about politics and gas prices. So guess it matters to them after all. The extra 5 mpg is nice in the long term.
The rear seats on the 4runner are much more comfy for adult passenger, that’s where it shines. I rode 4 of us down to Tennessee from NY in my Tacoma and there weren’t many complaints, but it’s known the 4runner would’ve been more comfy.
But the bed of my Tacoma fit duffel bags, gear, and everything no problem. It fits kyacks, mountain bikes, metal beach chairs and umbrellas, wood, and other scratchy stuff that would make me cringe in a 4runner due to scratches that would occur on the interior. A scratches bed is more acceptable mentally. And having a bed instead of cargo area promotes me to keep going on adventures and getting out there having fun. Tacoma pushes me to have more fun.
Tundra aside:
Off-roading the 4runner and Tacoma shine together. Long traveling the 4runner wins. Utility the Tacoma wins.
Tundra does all 3 great…at the cost of $$$$$$ and it’s heavy so ACTUAL extreme off-roading wouldn’t be optimal in a big pig like a Tundra.
But the fact that I can put a small sport bike or dirt bike or small boat in my truck sold me on the Tacoma. And I’ll never forget lying in my truck bed on an inflatable mattress with friends watching the 4th of July fireworks last summer, with no roof to block our panoramic view of the starts as the fireworks boomed directly above us. But I’ll always wish slightly sometimes that it had the 4Runners 4.0L and AMAZING 5 speed electronic automatic transmission. That won’t change. But ya can’t have everything. That’s why it’s nice they have great resale value ;-)
Hope that helps!
@@brianruperti well said my friend. Thanks for helping my decision!
@@SeizeTheAdventure thanks and glad to help!
You can’t go wrong with the Tacoma
Wish I could afford a tacoma and my 22 4runner lol...nice truck Brian
I just bought the army green TRD Off Road and love it. Best color option, period. I'm gong to do the chrome cancel as well and the Toyota lettered grill, but other than that, it's an amazing truck and I'm excited to finally have a Tacoma!
Hey congrats and thanks for sharing!
totally laughed out loud when you mentioned the volume on the steering wheel. lol...great review man!
😂 Thanks!
I have about 5k miles on my 21 Nightshade. Love your review. Couple opinions to share:
Manuals are fine but anybody that gives you a hard time about driving an auto is a tool. I daily drive my truck and live in the DC Metro area (worst traffic in the country) and driving a manual is out of the question. On your weekend car, sure. But def not your daily.
Those floor mats are perfectly fine. Probably better quality than any other option out there Ive seen. Save your money on new floor mats and spend it on the bed mat. You'll never know how much you needed it until you have it. Love mine.
I could go either way on the gas cap. Would a locking one have been nice? Yea, I guess, but its def not a deal breaker.
One thing I wish mine had (being the Limited trim) was a heated steering wheel. Got the heated seats, but cmon Toyota, throw in the heated steering wheel too (Maybe some ventilated seats too haha). I understand its not a luxury vehicle like you said, just some things on my wish list that maybe Toyota can think about in the future.
Finding a place to mount my phone was more difficult than I would have imagined it being when I first got it. I def didnt want to drill into anything, and in my past vehicles I used vent mounts. I found some Scosche mounts at Target that work great, you should look into them (might save you from drilling into your dash). They just stick on with 3M tape and use magnets to hold your phone. Very sturdy.
Great video though, sorry for such a long comment.
You have a nice truck!! Thanks I really appreciate that. And no I love big responses!
Yes I agree about manuals. I think I’ll be rocking my mats for a while I feel the quality. I heard a bed mat is a must! But I worry about it flapping out while driving! Same on the gas cap lol.
Yes I’d love to have heated wheel and understand why you’d want one. Ventilated seats are AMAZING!
Thanks for the recommendation on the mounting. I also get hesitant about permanent mods like drilling.
And again thanks so much for watching my video and responding to it! More videos to come!
@@brianruperti Thanks! No problem man, thanks for taking time to upload a thorough, honest review!
The bed mat shouldnt flip out of the bed. They got some weight to them (I'd guess around 40 lbs) and they fit pretty tight, so they wedge against the walls of the bed for peace of mind.
Here is the link for a video on the Scoshe mounts: ua-cam.com/video/ms3jM4wmw6g/v-deo.html

Hi Brian, that was a great review. I'm planning to get a new toyota tacoma. Im in Alberta. Would you suggest to get undercoating and 3m protection for hood and fenders. Or its just the Delearship way of making more money. Thanks.
Hey thanks!! I appreciate you checking my channel out. I think the undercoating and 3M protection is great. The dealerships have a decent markup on those but you pay for the convenience and being able to bring it back if they did it wrong.
I personally (controversial I know) opted out on both and I rinse my under body weekly and actually scrub my frame every couple months with a horse hair brush for 10 minutes with soapy water when deep cleaning it.
I live in the rust belt but am still not too worried about it because I wash my truck often.
Old farmers will say just spray old cooking or motor oil underneath. It will work but idk about the smell lol.
It will definitely benefit you. If you get the film on a white truck you may notice yellowing over time. But film works good. I just use touch up. The under spray I recommend. But listen, look up what it looks like underneath after being sprayed, and make sure your truck looks like it’s been sprayed. Don’t get charged for spray and not get it. Just a word of caution 🧐
Toyota had to replace a lot of frames back in the day so now they dip the frames in a electric bath. They still at time get surface rust depending where you live. Also on my Toyota Tundra TRD Pro it came with wheel well liners. A lot of the big 3 manufacturers don’t provide wheel well liners.
Get PPF wrapped on the whole truck or none. Most of the rock chips are hood, a pillars and where the tires throw it at the sides of the truck. And the headlights will get rock chips too so have them wrapped.
Also I had a ton of paint flake off the frame welds like everyone complains about. I would coat it. I think I’ll do fluid film before the next winter. I washed it every couple weeks at least but still have surface rust on the leaf springs, leaf spring hangars, and some other areas. The frame was fine just sprayed a bunch more paint on since i noticed paint flaked off when I put my skids on
Amazing review! You're honest and straightforward.
Thank you 🙏🏼
So far I’m loving my 19 off-road 6mt! When I heard people say the plastic rear bumpers break easily off-road I thought it was a joke. The second time I took mine out it got smashed up haha so be ready for that if you don’t lift and get bigger tires soon!
Interesting thanks for sharing!
Great review man, I really enjoyed the video. I have a lunar rock TRD Pro in manual and I gotta say, it's a lot more fun to drive than the 2016 4Runner I had. Maybe it's because it's a stick shift but you're right, it's a bit clunky and notchy. But being a high revver, it's fun, love rev matching in the down shift. Can't wait to teach my daughter to drive a stick in 12 years.
I like the off-road grill on the off-roads, I find the Toyota heritage grill looks better with the (fake) hood scoop on the sport and pro. Army green looks awesome, I had a Pro on order but couldn't find one in manual, so ended up with a 2021.
I got a S2000 and I'm still glad I got the Taco in stick but I don't hit rush hour often. Nevertheless, Toyota for life. Enjoy the truck!
Thanks so much for taking the time to share this all! That’s a really sweet truck you have. And I hope you keep it long enough to teach her on. She’ll have so many fond memories for life.
Cheers to the enjoyment we both have. More videos coming!
i got sick of my 6speed 2018 tacoma trd OR and sold it. pressing the clutch so much led to my left hip becoming painful. waiting for my 2022 4runner trd pro now

Nice TRD Off Road! I recently picked up a Tacoma SR5 Trail Edition fully loaded in Cement and I love it. It has everything that I want in a truck. The additional features found in the TRD and Limited models l don't need or would never use anyways.
Thanks!! That’s a nice truck I hope you enjoy it!
So how’s your Cement trail Tacoma holding up???
I want the gas lid to be lockable, you'll never know and there will always be Aholes messing up someone's gas tank
Yea people suck /:
I agree, there should be a locking gas door and I was surprised when I called a the dealer and found out they don't make one, so I went to a Napa store and got an after market locking cap, so far it works!🤔🙂
I have a 2018 Taco Limited V6. I really love it except the acceleration is strange sometimes. When going 50-60 mph, I press on the gas a bit and it’s not really accelerating much, I press a little more and sometimes it’s revs to 5-6k RPM and accelerates like mad. Anyone has the same issue?
I have experienced your same exact thing when driving older models. Please check the comments for some tips people gave on tunes that help with that!
I saw one the other day that someone had cut last two letters off, so it was a “taco.” The thought occurred to me, he could have cut off the first two letters and made it a “coma.” Of course then it probably wouldn’t have started! lol
@@charlesbernier9319 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Yes this is another quirk with the 3rd gen tacoma. I’ve got a 2020 trd off road and it’s done this from day one. A strange ass power band makes for awkward af driving dynamics.
Once in a while if you need to floor it on the freeway it’ll actually get stuck in high rpm. 8k I believe. You’ve gotta apply the brakes to tell the stupid computer to knock it off.
The brakes suck too.
This truck is reliable but it’s got quirks.
My 4Runner and Tundra have the volume side to side too. I agree with you, the side to side volume sucks, I'm constantly changing tracks after 3 years!
😂 It’s a pain we all know!
Going to check one out in person soon. Thanks for the review!!

Decided to pull the trigger when Covid hit last year and flew from Texas to Illinois to pick up my 2020 Army Green Trd Pro. 1000% worth it!!! The color alone is phenomenal. It is forever changing and that low light setting is amazing. Also totally didnt know about the holder for the rear headrests. Was super confused about where to put them. The steering wheel though OMG geez that was my huge gripe like wtf is going on with this thing.
Congrats! Team green!!! I hope you love it and congrats on the PRO grade. We both have an old school toyota wheel 🤣
This was a great review! You are spot on about its a truck! Take it out on adventures! I have a 2020 TRD Sport longbed but it handles the offroading adventures just fine. One thing I invested in recently is a KD Max Tune. You should get one too! Worth the $
Thank you!! 🙏🏼 and nice truck! What color? And awesome to hear you offroad as well. I’ve heard of that tune I think I will consider it.
@@brianruperti i went with cement gray. i love it!
@@hotasianmusic ahhh cement the #1 color 😎
Me and my brother both like Toyota Tacoma’s we’ve been driving them for quite a few years I went out and bought the 2020 TRD Pro an Army Green my brother like the truck so much he went out and bought one two weeks later. It kind of irritated me a little bit that he went out and bought the same truck and same colour as mine. the army green was so popular they put it on different models a truck ,when he bought his truck he was told it was a limited addition colour only available to the TRD pro now it’s coming out in every vehicle and it irritates the hell out of him so every time I find a video like yours I forward it to him thanks for making the video.
Hey you’re welcome for the video. It’s all the same love! Yes I agree with the irritation that Toyota claims it’s a special color then the next year the paint everything with it. But at least with Army Green, ya know that you’re part of a group of people with similar taste!
As soon as I pay off my 86 I'm getting a Tacoma. After I pay off the Tacoma I'm getting an fj cruiser. I'll probably even get a Prius eventually to save on gas doing rideshares. Toyota rocks!
Nice plan! Any 4runner in that plan by chance?
@@brianruperti haha yah the list keeps going. I want an older 4runner though. And an older supra too. Unless they make the next gen Supra with a manual.
Great review btw. That army green really does look awesome on the Tacomas. Very fitting.
@@syntheseyez3577 You better have that MONEY TREE then!!! 🤑🤑🤑
You are completely right about the transmission vs the 4 runner. I sold my 2021 Tacoma after 6 months. I enjoy driving my wife’s 2020 4 runner so much better. I upgraded to a 2007 Lexus GX 470. Crazy how much more enjoyable it is to drive as opposed to a brand new Tacoma.
Finally someone gets me! How’s the GX470? I heard those are comfy comfy.
@@brianruperti the GX is a tank. Much more spacious. Tons of room in the back. Don’t regret selling my Tacoma at all.
@@BradleyJokerst Nice! Now ya have me wondering if I put my girl in a 4Runner or the GX 🤔
@@brianruperti bought the wife a new 2019 TRD Off-road Premium. Almost 3 years/35k miles later we just put new tires on her today and it drives like new. It’ll be in the family forever.
@@Txcowboy80 nice!!! Thanks for sharing! What state are you from? How’s the rust been?
Good review. I just bought the same color/model truck with the premium and technology packages. I've only had it 10 days, but so far so good. I love it.
Thanks. And more importantly congrats on such a nice truck!!!!!! When that leather breaks in it’s gonna be so comfy! I remember when I was 10 days in. Cloud 9. I’m still on cloud 9! Enjoy your truck man!
So how’s a month of ownership going for you??
@@brianruperti I'm still very happy with this purchase.
@@johnaltomare2054 great!!
Thanks for doing this. My wife and I have an off-road ordered and having never really seen one up close, this has been wonderful. Our’s is an extended cab with a six foot bed, but otherwise very much like your’s.
Thanks for watching! Congrats on your truck! What color did you go with?
@@brianruperti My wife fell in love with the Barcelona red. Plus the soft cover and flaps.
Plastic engine covers make me sick. Why did this become popular with manufactures?
Pretty much for appearance. Makes it look modern and sleek. 🤣
I think you're the best Toyota UA-camr out here LOL you're very in-depth and I really appreciate it. I wish you did a first or second gen Sequoia video though or even a third gen
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
just bought my second tacoma. exactly like yours its crazy. i love mine. i had no clue where to put damn head rests. Thanks man !!!!! awesome hack bro!!!!!
Congrats! Twins! Always here to help 🙏🏼
Tx. I smile everytime i get in it. Congrats on yours lol ! Great video review btw.

Great review … waiting on my 21 Tacoma Off Road in Super White. Might be in this week!
Learned a lot from your video … thanks for your insight!
Thanks! Nice truck! The super white really pops. Especially at dawn and dusk. Glad I helped! More content coming.
Sooo did your new white beast go to her new home yet!?
@@brianruperti … picked her up Sept. 1st … got over 1700 Kms on it already. Love it !!!
@@johnmoher404 Awesome!!!! You must look forward to getting in every time 😌
@@brianruperti … yes I definitely do!
Awesome review, thanks Brian.
Thanks! You’re welcome
Terrific review!!! I bought my 2019 Tacoma Off Road in JAn of ‘19. I now have around 126k miles. A lot of those in 4WD. We own a horse farm and we have larger vehicles, we also have more expensive luxury vehicles...to me this truck is a great value. I drive it on business trips...in fact I just finished a 6 hour trip. It’s comfortable to me on road, easy to maneuver on trails around our property (our farm is on a river)....I actually do not have ANY complaints. Enjoy and be safe.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch it and share that. That’s awesome that you have a horse farm. I could do 6 hours in my truck as well. I love it. You enjoy and be safe as well! God bless
@@brianruperti God has blessed me beyond measure...back at ya young man.
@@brianruperti Update buddy...I now have 206K miles...still trouble free...
Nice!!!
@@gsdlvr123 Hey so thanks again for writing back a year later! Are there any things you’d like to point out to possible new Tacoma owners or current Tacoma owners that has helped you? Mods worth it or not worth it? What to look out for? What to do/not do? Thanks again!
Wow I found this video by accident and got to say you did a great job on this review
Thank you!
I have a 2018 Sport which I've customized a lot. I LOVE, LOVE it.
Nice what are your two favorite mods you did?
@@brianruperti He man. Nothing crazy. I had a three inch lift put on, thirty three inch KO2's and black Gear rims, so the truck being black to begin with, it's completely blacked out. I literally get ten comments a week on it. Love this vehicle.
@@dyates6380 nice!!! I love black
Also, I LOVE that the gas cap is non locking. Hate having to push a button just to get to gas.
You and I both!
Agree with you about the Tacoma. I have a 2021 TRD off-road in Barcelona Red. I love this truck. I have 9500 miles and put 4500 miles on it doing a 7 state road trip with my son the truck handled it excellently. Went to the California Redwoods, San Francisco, Yosemite, South Lake Tahoe, Bonneville Salt Flats, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier then back home. Great trip.
Thanks for watching! And also for sharing. What a trip that must have been. Wow.
What was your fav part of that journey? And a single piece of advice for when I do a similar one?
@@brianruperti I really liked the Redwoods in California, and Yosemite was amazing, but crowded because it was the 4th of July weekend. Mount Rushmore is stunning and Yellowstone / Grand Tetons takes at least 2 days. I really loved the whole trip. Montana and Glacier National Park were great.
@@4runner510 That’s awesome I can’t wait to arrange a trip like that. Thank you for sharing that
Luv your video, Brian! Thanks!
Thank you so much!!! 🙏🏼 Stay tuned for more!
This man has a nice truck to be low key passing the good word around. Got that Gideon hitter on em at all times.
Thanks for the good vibes my friend
I’m glad you showed how the seats fold down, now I’m leaning to the four door,,,
Four doors fit more 😎
Awesome review!! I have a 2017 sport in red. I am now waiting on my 2021 sport in Army Green to be built! They start it October 5 can’t wait!! By the way I hate locking gas tanks!!
Congrats!!! I bet you’re excited. And same!
I have a 2021 AG Tacoma long bed. I love everything about the truck.
Long beds are awesome!!!
Wow., you nailed it. My sentiments exactly. Well Done
Thank you! 🙏🏼
I had a 2016 4runner and loved the engine and transmission. Top notch reliability and drive.
Nice. How many miles did you bring it to?
@@brianruperti I drove it's across the US and back to CA. 60k miles and sold it a couple months ago. Best car I've ever had
@@OceansideCreations Wow that must have been fun
Best review! Getting mine tomorrow… was steep but need a truck asap. Used with 20k miles, looking great. So psyched. PLEASE make more vids about it. Oh- mine is same Army Green. I think it’s beautiful!! Also, I’m actually happy with USB C …. Am apple person and have pretty much entirely switched over lol. Good job…. More Green TT 2021 plz!!
Thanks! Congrats on your new truck! I will gladly do more Tacoma content for you
I enjoy the style and substance of your reviews Thanks for the vids
Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
I have a 2017 Barcelona Pro, same Tyger steps and I agree with you about the volume control on the steering wheel 😆 My transmission must have learned my driving style, it shifts perfect for me but was a little shifty when new. Strongly recommend a Toyota bed mat.
Nice color! Mine finally learned my style as well. Got the mat recently and love it!
I didn’t know about the headrests!!! 😅🤦🏻♀️ THANKS! I’ve had mine for 6 months and I love it. Yes, it’s not made for speed but it’s a good truck.
Glad the video helped you :-) thanks for watching
Stumbled upon this review and recognized the voice immediately. You sold me my 2020 trd sport barcelona red haha
Hey man how’ve you been! How’s the truck???
I love it. I really want to lift it or atleast get the biggest size tires without rubbing.
@@stephenkardian5084 So happy to hear🙏🏼. Yes do you research on how to do it the way that will work best for you because there are a lot of different approaches towards ride mods. Height. Spacers vs suspension. Wheel spacers. Tire weight. Cutting bumpers and wheel wells. Dig deep and be ready to spend some $$$ so you actually enjoy it!
You definitely would like the step up getting into the 4 runner! Just put myself into a 2021 4x4 SR5 premium this year but the first thing I ordered for it was a pedal commander because the throttle is still a little slow for my taste.
Step up?????
Interesting!
My TRD off road is being built in a couple days. Your video is getting me excited. I have a 93 Toyota 4x4 pickup that I bought 20 years ago. Its a great truck that will last forever. This new Tacoma will be luxury for me.
Congrats!!! I’m so happy to hear that. It’s exactly what I wanted to do for someone. Fun story, I drove old high mileage cars before this truck and it’s the same way for me. Which color did you go with?
@@brianruperti Magnetic Grey Metallic

Good insight on the features of your Tacoma TRD Army Green. I bought my Tacoma Limited Edition SR5 2021 Cement Gray in December 2020 and I as well like the simple features of it. Can I get the LED Headlights from the Toyota dealership? They look amazing on your truck.
You’re welcome I’m so glad you watched it! And you have a really nice truck. Cement is awesome. And limited is a special beast of its own. Depending on the dealership, and availability of parts right now due to the chip shortage, you should be able to get them.
I do not know if there is a separate harness to install these, they would know. The forums may also address this so you’re prepped before you call the dealer.
And thank you, I chose the LED package because it completely changed the look of the truck!
Your truck is Beautiful & the tint you chose is perfect looks awesome
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
Dream car. Just holding off till 2022 to see if prices drops
You’ll be happy when you do it!!!
Nice truck hop the frames don’t rot out of a couple million more. I bought a gladiator but the reliability of these is killer, def good points about ease of maintaining, there is a lot of room in that engine bay
Thanks for watching and congrats on the sweet ride. Gladiators are cool. I will pray every day my frame holds up for the 400k Or more!
Getting mine in 18 exact days and I cannot wait any longer
