God, yes. Thank you for saying that. I’m actually a little afraid to click on Carlin clips because I’m worried that one day I’ll see the last new piece. That would be too sad, so I’m trying to stretch it out.
To deliberately cross the line, drag the audience over it with you, and have them glad you did it: that last part - having them be glad - is what seems to be missing from controversial speakers today.
The only people who complain are bloggers who aren’t interested in comedy in the first place. Carlin had haters too. In both cases, it’s not the audience who came to the show that complain.
George Carlin is the epitome of a modern-day philosopher. On top of making you think about something differently, before you know it you're laughing about it too because it's true
I saw George Carlin in 1975. It was sort of a theater in the round. But the audience section moved not the stage. I had to use the restroom so I got up and went down. He stopped what he was doing and said something to me and because I was 18 and very young I was embarrassed. So I hurried out. I found out later he got the audience to be involved when I got back because he knew I would come in and not be able to find my seat. I can't remember what he said or how exactly what the audience did but he made what I did his joke. My boyfriend stood up and waved his arms so I saw him and got to my seat with applause. He did smile at me lovingly talked about bodily functions and commented how many shades of red I blushed. He was wonderful. I could feel his kindness and compassion. How many people can say I was a George Carlin joke. I loved and still love this man. And when I pass I hope I get to go to cat dog and Comedian Heaven.

he mentions meeting people in the airport. in 1985 my baseball team was travelling to Iowa we had the honor of meetings George in the DFW airport. George Carlin and Paul Mooney are easily two of my favorite comedians. I was also fan Chris Rock and this show. I'm sure this episode aired in Fall 1997 and this was my introduction to George Carlin. Long story short, I ended up catching the special he was referring to at 3:45 and became a fan. Ironically, it was the Chapelle Show where I was introduced to Mooney. I love George Carlin. The way he always called out people's bullshit is just so refreshing. One of very few people who could insult you and make you laugh about it.
George Carlin (RIP) was more than a simple Comedian, he transcended comedy many years ago, he was Phylosopher, and I would dare to say from the School of Diogenes.
