    Enjoy your videos as we both obviously grow indoors in the UK but you have a ton more knowledge and experience than I do !

    Many, many thanks! Once again, thanks to you I've been able to identify one of my no-I.D.s! My Aliceara renaissance coral no longer has to live its life incognito! ;-p

      Haha, it's a great onci! My mum then bought me one as a present, so I have two now 😆 I'm too attached to both of them though!

    I grow in tropical Queensland, Australia... just for reference the closest city to me is Townsville, it is always interesting to see where other orchid growers are. I have never had issues with snails with where I am but the centipedes I get are far bigger and far more dangerous.

    Agh, centipedes and snails! Good thing you repotted them. I would have been tempted to leave them until they finished blooming. In the past when I repotted oncidium types in bloom, they tended to drop them shortly after.

      Depends what you repot them into and how different it is from what the roots are already adapted to. If they have good roots and go from coco peat to self watering with moss then I've never had any flowers drop 😄 My Bartley Schwartz and Oncidium Issaku Nagata didn't blast any buds, kept elongating the flower spikes they already have as well as putting new roots down and new flower spikes starting. If they don't have good roots then the flower spikes would need to come off anyway. If they have good roots, no snails in the pot and you want to repot them into a different media that relies on them putting new roots down to adapt to, then it's best to wait until new roots emerge when the flowers are finished 😄 Everyone has different views on this though, this is what works for me pretty much 100% of the time😄

    Thank you, I didn’t do that and now I have four Oncidiums in I CU from snail damage and shrivelled bulbs! Lesson learnt. Do you take them out of the sphagnum mix after flowering or leave them as they are?

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  4 роки тому

      The sphagnum mix wasn't a temporary setup, that's how I kept oncidiums at the time, lots of setup changes can stress the plants more so after a repot I always leave well alone until established 🙃

      @@TheOrchidRoom Thank you for the reply. I had got the wrong impression that it was a temporary set up until flowers finished and repot on from there once the roots got going again 🙃 I am relatively new to orchid growing aside of the usual supermarket Phals 🙂I have now put them in moss, perlite and orchiata bark. Although the bulbs are very shrivelled, I have new growth and hopefully new roots soon. Thanks again.

    Well-done, really nicely re-potted. How are they doing now? where did you buy them from? I just bought one discounted miltoniopsis(I think) from the place I was on holiday yesterday. I was going to leave it be but with all those snails that you showed I think I have to re-pot. Thanks for sharing.

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  5 років тому

      Thanks! 😀 They're doing well, the yellow one only just finished flowering! The renaissance coral has two new growths but they seem to be coming from the same node...? It's doing odd things 😂 I bought them from a local garden centre called Stewart's- they're a small chain, think they only have 3 stores but they get new orchid deliveries weekly so I tend to pop in and see what's available 😀

  • @marygorchidsmore2058
    @marygorchidsmore2058 5 років тому

    Hi Anabel, when you re-potted these with spike, did they bother by it?

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  5 років тому +1

      Hey, not really, they flowered for a few weeks then the aliceara started to fade first. The odontoglossum hybrid blooms lasted a couple of months, I was very impressed as standard onci blooms dont tend to last that long anyway. The aliceara was in my recent pumice updates vid with 2 new growths 😀

    Yellow one Irish mist.

    • @pipmacauley5670
      @pipmacauley5670 5 років тому

      I also think the yellow one might be Irish Mist. Do the centipedes eat the orchids or are they hunters of other insects in which case they might be doing a good job for you.😦

    Where do you buy those self watering pots? I'm living in Houston. Thank you.

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  5 років тому

      Hi- They are DIY systems using a 15cm outer and inner pot. If you check the description and scroll down, Under DIY self watering pots there are links to the Ikea outer pot and the wicks. 15m clear plastic orchid pots used as inner.
