    Wow it's amazing to see those finicky orchids put out so many new growth😌😌 now I'm seriously wanting to try miltoniopsis

      You should definitely try them! 😀 My advice would be to get a nice healthy miltoniopsis with as many pseudobulbs as you can find 😀 I spent so long when I started with them thinking I couldn't grow them because I was getting discounted ones with zero roots, and they can be sooo slow to recover sometimes 😅

    Love this. I have a Nelly Isler that has done nothing for months and I just moved to self watering in moss to try and help growth of anything. This gives me hope. I will be moving it closer to my humidifier- as of the moment the leaves are not drooping but the pseudo bulbs are a bit shriveled. It has been like this for about 4 months so maybe the moss and the humidifier will encourage growth 🙏

      They do stall so much! I think up to a year isn't even unusual for them, but I've had quite alot pull through eventually, it's just such slow progress! Hopefully yours will get itself together soon, any signs of new growths? 🤞🤞🙂

    I repotted 2 recently purchased Nelly Islers today. Thought they were good sized plants but there was 2 small plants in each pot !

      I hate when this happens! Its a bit sneaky, especially with orchids that grow more slowly. Luckily Nelly Islers bloom from quite small bulbs so hopefully you will still get good displays from them!

    Thank you for the tips on the different stages of recovery. I have a miltoniopsis that I am going to try growing in water culture, not sure it will work, but I am hopeful. I will need to look at your site and see if you have other miltoniopsis videos that might give me some more inspiration for keeping mine alive. It is a yellow on Miltoniopsis roezlii v. xanthina thanks again for the video and happy growing :)

      I'm very jealous for your roezlii var xanthina! Congratulations on acquiring it! 😀 I'm unsure on water culture, it seems like most people struggle with it long term for some reason. I've never tried it, but Danielle from Danielle's orchid ranch definitely keeps her miltoniopsis and oncidiums in water culture so maybe she will have some tips on conversion? It shouldn't really be any different to the orchids roots growing down into the reservoir in semi hydro in theory. Good luck, milts love water that's for sure!

    I have heard many good things about seaweed extract, but I haven't tried it yet! Some of my orchids are also in bad shape, with one aliceara having no roots at all. For ages it did nothing. Then suddenly about two months ago it began a new growth, and I was super excited! But now the growth doesn't seem to have grown at all over the past month, and I'm getting a little anxious about it again... Time will tell!

      For some reason I don't always get notifications, I'm really happy your Aliceara is finally recovering! But they can sometimes stall, hopefully resumes soon! My Tahitian Dancer has flower spikes but it's only just recovered from me putting it in LECA! It was doing so great before, massive plump pbulbs and 3 new growths. After I put it in LECA all the leaves yellowed and one of the new growths died 😟 I persisted for a while but eventually gave up as couldn't find out what the issue was. Put it back into moss and it finished it new growths, the leaves went mostly green again and 2 flower spikes. Who knows why it reacted so badly, my oncostele had a similar reaction. My thought would be pH affecting nutrient absorption but I pHd the nutrient mix so that it was ~6 in the LECA so who knows! 😓

      @@TheOrchidRoom seems like oncidiums intergenerics are very hit-and-miss for us in LECA. So far the true oncidiums are doing well in it for me (Sharry Baby and twinkle). I recently discovered that my twinkle is making its first flower spike! The Aliceara is still moping and doing nothing though.

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  5 років тому +1

      Oooh my twinkle is starting to twinkle spike too! Yeah I'm not experimenting any more with LECA for oncidiums, would have been great if I could get it to work but seems like my environment isn't suited to the set up 🙁

      Do you mean my shelving? It's just wire racking, the link is in the description but it's a UK supplier. You should be able to find a similar wire rack in your region.
