Hey all. I'm the guy that wrote into the Dave Ramsey show a couple of years ago talking about money hoarding. I understand where this guy is completely. That moving target was always terrifying, but it's possible to to get through it!

Whenever I watch a Dr John episode it is always so timely. I needed to hear this today and will be sitting with it for a while. Someone once wisely said “You cannot out-give what God will provide” and I keep working towards making that my life/heart statement rather than living with a scarcity mentality, fear & doubt.

I've been a saver all my life, saving for my retirement. Saving is a lifestyle and a value system. I've been retired 12 years. I still live under my income and continue to put money away. And I have plenty.

This is me right now. I finally called a counselor on Monday to start getting help. I’ve never been more blessed in my life, but the fear of lack is paralyzing. This was timely

I am like this too because of learned behavior from my parents and grandparents who grew up in poverty in a European village. They were and still are very focused on saving money.
I cringe at the times in my past when I could have been more generous and giving instead of cheap. Other than that it has been an overall beneficial thing. My husband and I don’t have any debt except for our mortgage. I built my business smartly, slow and steady and now make over 6 figures and am expanding my business using money I saved, not a loan. But I had to get to the point where my husband and I are brining in over 200k a year to be able to feel more relaxed about spending on nice items. And even when I do buy nice furniture and things, I space them out a lot, instead of making large purchases at once.
I just now started buying new clothes instead of shopping at the thrift store.
My husband being much more financially secure than me has helped me be less financially worried.
But having unexpected expenses or spending money that I wasn’t prepared to spend, (for example when 5 extra unexpected ppl come to lunch after church with us and I know my husband is going to pay the whole bill) still gives me anxiety and a panicked feeling.

Best first move is to pay off car loan. Second move is to start taking night course while keep you job to ensure you like new direction in your life. After that you need to associate with successful people who encourage each other, I have been down this road myself.

financial fear is something so many people face, and it’s great to see advice that focuses on taking practical steps forward. Building a plan, even small changes, can make a huge difference over time. Do you agree that mindset and strategy are key to overcoming this?

I grew up with parents and grandparents who survived the Great Depression of the 30s. The saving mentality was definitely drummed in to us and I'm still uncomfortable spending much money or having something luxurious. It's mostly served me well, but now that I have more money I find I just don't want much, except art supplies and I want to travel inexpensively.

I need to hear an episode like this but where the guy has actually been broke, homeless, or almost homeless. Hoarding is easy to counsel compared with the much more common problem of actually being broke despite working a full time job and doing one’s best to budget. Which is a situation hundreds of thousands of aging gen z and millennials are facing.

my parents were nice to me but the pressure was future scholarship money and i remember 1 year i found myself quadruple checking my school planner to make sure I didn't miss anything. Almost went paranoid. Honestly more failure would have probably been good. Sometimes a house emergency like a water heater or ac going out makes you realize its not so bad. But i hope that doesn't happen to me 🤣

    • @bowietrio
      @bowietrio 10 годин тому +2

Are you referring to Christianity or all religions? If you’re referring to Christianity then I would say Yes - the tenets of Christian faith are founded on 3 main things: 1) we, as mortals, are finite & limited, and in need of Someone bigger than ourselves. 2) That someone is the God who created us to be a reflection of His creativity, intelligence, love, grace, mercy, strength and beauty and 3) rather than living under a debilitating belief that we will never measure up, or, living with a toxic sense of pride & arrogance, we come to see that God is enough and that the example of His son Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit, will lift us up and continue perfecting us as we live in relationship to Him and others.

not just the church, its evolution how we evolved. Boss's are required to tell you you aren't good enough. that's what's fueled all this "continuous improvement" nonsense

It's about admitting it, but it also gives you a trajectory to follow.
Secular materialism is about lying to yourself about how good you are, then externalizing the blame through resentment when you inevitably don't measure up. It's everyone's fault but mine, all the way down to despising existence itself.

Wouldn't say that's a problem. If you're content you're content, and if you're not wasteful then I think that's awesome. If you at some point feel guilty about amassing capital you don't have a need for, I would suggest finding a charity that does work you believe is good and consider supporting them.

My last car was a used 2009 chev aveo with 43000 miles. Nothing wrong with it but family said i should buy a brand new vehicle if i have the money. I just didnt want any loans/ owe anything

@lorainefleeman6011 I second this. I'm not a spender at all (basically just living expenses and a small handful of games each year) while my wife likes to shop. I complement her by helping her prioritize and slow down the household spending, while she complements me by making our home actually FEEL like a home instead of an empty box with four blank walls.

I need people's honest advice please. What's so good about being a
Young-Adult in America? I'm from Los Angeles, here are my observations:
    A) Markets and Restaurants put chemical-weapons in our food-supply, then
(most) Americans celebrate over-eating. No wonder mental-illness and
    gut-illness are sky rocketing.
    B) Colleges are extremely Woke here. By now, you need 3 part-time jobs
to survive. No company wants to hire more than 20 hours/week, if you
    are lucky. Exploitation is EVERYWHERE.
    C) Hospitals across the nation Kill people on purpose, instead of helping.
    D) The people themselves scare me. I mean, teens and anyone under 30.
80% of them are dumb bullies, drug-addicts, sex-perverts, they attend raves,
orgies, bars and the like. It's disgusting.
    ___________
Your thoughts? How in god's name am I supposed
to function with those type of creeps out in Public?
or at school? or around me at work? Glad I'm not like them.

This is called the love of money and is sinful. I had a friend like this who would never offer to pay for stuff or help with costs when we did things together. He never offered to drive places or help pay for gas when we went places. He always expected you to pay for his stuff even though he worked insane amounts of overtime and never spent anything. I told him to stop being cheap a- and I never wanted to see him ever again after years of this.
