$42K driveaway for a baseline Camry seems insane to me, especially when some EV's are now $30,990 with 250,000km 10-year warranties. Dunno ,call it Toyota tax but these cars we're $29k back before covid if anyone can remember.
EVs are all with the slow charging speed and limited battery supply globally and paying $10-20K EV tax for same level of petrol car, is not way to go forward. Things will change completely when solid state battery is out
I just picked up camry, xse comes with the cold winter package. The convenience package and a bunch of other accessories for 38k ... you got ripped off.
I'd go for the base camry as I don't care about infotainment when I just listen to 3AW all day. I also prefer smaller alloys with thicker tyres for comfort. Toyota, please don't scrimp on the steering wheel. I want leather on my hands, it's the main thing that connects me to my car. Who wants to carry plastic bag over a leather briefcase when going to the office 😅
I just sold my 2011 Camry Hybrid 160,000 + Kms, had it for 7 years and absolutely nothing wrong with it and still going strong. Upgraded to 2020 Camry hybrid, love it.
Hybrid technology is clever, but the added cost, weight & complexity don't make up for the modest fuel savings. It only makes sense for taxi/uber drivers doing huge km's in-town driving.
The best car on the market ,I have a 2018 Ascent Sport which has done 291000 kilometres and nothing has gone wrong, still drives and looks like brand new ,will be upgrading to the new model
I've had a close look of this at our local Toyota dealer, and yeah, it's very conservative but perhaps one of the better Hybrid sedans you can buy. But oh gosh, the 23 SX is more appealing for style and presence. If I was in the market for another sedan, I'd buy this. But my heart is set on the BYD Sealion.
careful with Chinese cars.. they are extremely tech dependent.. and there was some news about how they were able to use the tech to kill the driver in the Warzone... it's good to see that brands from China is doing well but for me personally my family safety is more important than stupid China.
Another great review. If you're going to call something boring, I think you need to say why. It looks sharp to me and since there aren't many sedans on the road at all, it is almost a niche vehicle now. Sure, the plastic steering wheel is straight garbage so I'd step up to the next grade. I was in the previous one as a loan car and it was so refined and quiet with lots of good info to show how my battery was charging on the screen. I like the Octavia too, especially with their simply clever gadgets and gizmos that Toyota doesn't care about.
Nice one Matt. So, is the claimed power output of say a Tank 300/500 Hybrid incorrect? As they simply add both the ICE and battery power together, where Toyota obviously do not. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one. Thanks!
40k before on roads is actually insane value. Corollas cost that much. For the car youre getting, thats a good price. Its a camry after all. Will last literally forever.
Camry's the obvious choice for rideshare (Uber X/Pet only) and near compulsory for taxis. In top spec it is a nicer place to be than some more expensive Uber Premier vehicles like Chrysler 300 or the rear seat of a Tesla where motor whine intrudes, but that likely won't change. After all, it is "only" a Toyota and not a prestige German car.
I will be soon into the market for new cars, as I dislike SUV's, I will be looking into getting new Kia K4, Škoda Octavia RS or maybe Toyota Camry :) one thing I do NOT like about this new Camry is 10:53 this 1990's look air vents in the back.... Škoda cars have far more better designed and modern look to the rear air vents.
400kg maximum towing is rather crap, my Corolla is 1300kgs &750kg unbraked.... 400kgs maybe a large house fridge in a normal box trailer & not much more..
The i30 Sedan was rebranded after about a decade of lobbying from the Aussie brand to have it fall into line for sales figures. It was Elantra for ages. Only switched to i30 Sedan relatively recently.
Toyota hybrids are so far in front of the competition i wouldn't consider anything else.
They are great. Shame they don’t offer any of their plug-in models here. Could be market-defining too.
@@therightcar
They probably realise most customers don't want to be recharging their vehicles. I certainly don't 😊
Not really - Honda and Nissan both offer direct drive from electric motors which drive better.
But still Toyota more Reliable
Lifted wagon camry would be cool. Preferably phev.
Sure would. I’d be into that.

Yep, the Toyota Tax is evident. But it won’t stop them selling a shitload because it’s so very perfect for fleet needs.

Thanks for another great review, Matt 🎉
Thank you!
This is a great sedan and family car. I now am hooked on the SUV format so as good as this is it will not be on my shopping list.

I have an old Camry, still goes like new.
How old?
@@therightcar 2006 four cylinder but not the new shape, only done 147,000 kilometres.

My 1998 Corolla looks and drives like new. It’s been a garage princess all it’s life just clocked 93500 kms.

If I wanted a sedan, 😮this would be my pick. But I'm an SUV fan, so it would be a Rav 4 for me.😊
So the most 2 boring cars on the market
@markward573
Boring and extremely reliable.
Boring lol @@buncha5651
Yep, I think most people think like you, Buncha
Camry's are great for road trip holidays, huge boot for heaps of stuff to take away.
Most now don't need a huge boot as most eat take away.
That’s why they’re a rental fleet favourite
@@mvnorsel6354 I take away heaps of stuff including golf clubs.

If it was a wagon ...
If only!
I really miss the Falcon and Commodore and even the 380. The camry as the last standing car is good but yeah.
Still love my ' 380 ' , no reason to upgrade.
380 was a gorgeous vehicle. Still looks great. My head turns when I see a clean one!
@@therightcar - Also the Magna, especially the last ones with V6 and AWD.
@@351tgv Agreed. I used to like driving the Magnas back in the day working at a caryard.

Buy what you want, then no regrets.😅
Yep, I think the last version was a bit more attractive. And good luck with the Sealion!

Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu'll be sorry 😂
The Chinese technologies have killed people in Warzone by simply decorating the car. Please try to avoid them. Don't put your family in danger
NZ pricing is $50k to $58k. Ideal for Taxi drivers and rental fleets.
Yep, same here.

Shame Toyota did not bring over the 4 wheel drive model
Camrys have been so solid for so long, so nothing wrong there. But I'm more of a fan of the Skoda Octavia or the BYD Seal
Like most manufacturers, getting too expensive and I still hate the front facia of Toyota and Lexus vehicles.
I agree the pricing is a bit cheeky but remember they charge more for a base model C-HR!

Matt, what happens if you put an ordinary mobile phone on those wireless chargers?
What do you mean, an ordinary phone? Like, not a smartphone? It just won’t try and charge it.
@therightcar
No, I mean a mobile that doesn't have wireless charging.

I wish Toyota released a wagon version of this
Of all the cars tested which one gets the most attention from the ' Mums ' on the school run ?
Hahaha it’d be the Land Rover Defender, I’d say.
400kg maximum towing is rather crap, my Corolla is 1300kgs &750kg unbraked.... 400kgs maybe a large house fridge in a normal box trailer & not much more..
Is your Corolla a regular ICE or Hybrid? It makes a big difference for towing
Why is the i30 sedan not called an Elantra like it is overseas ?
Elantra is a rude word in Australian slang.
The i30 Sedan was rebranded after about a decade of lobbying from the Aussie brand to have it fall into line for sales figures.
It was Elantra for ages. Only switched to i30 Sedan relatively recently.
And when will a similar drivetrain be in a 4wd? Not much choice from Toyota if you don’t want a d4d.
RAV4 next-gen
eFour Wagon would have been amazing…
Maybe Subaru might step up for us.
We can dream.
This spec is definitely made for fleet vehicles
Totally.
Is the accelerator still very touchy like earlier Camry's ?
It can be in light throttle situations. Not a deal breaker but a tad touchier than a standard petrol.
With the 95 Ron petrol is it still cheaper to run than the previous petrol only version on 91 Ron ?
Great question! Haven’t done that maths.
Why does a front wheel drive only car have a transmission tunnel blocking floor space for the centre rear occupant? 🤔
The tunnel adds strength and rigidity without adding weight.
What do you think about the quality of the interior ?
I love the Toyota Camry. I currently have one ,, got the 2018 model for a really good deal... don't wanna spend 40 K but I love this car
Shame that it only runs on RON95+, all the cost saving effort hybrid brings to you is eaten by more expensive fuel cost
Needs a wagon.
badly but Toyota will direct you to RAV4 instead.
definition of uber car
I'd go for the Skoda instead.
It is the cheapest version remember, don't expect everything.
Should have called it the ' Belmont '.
I expected…. something!
11:18 , I wish they had replaced that complex engine contraption, with a simple electric motor and its control unit ! 🤣
