Having owned one for now 3 months, it has been my favourite car to own and drive. Sure, the fuel tank is a bit small, but the efficiency is not through the roof for a big heavy 3.4L TT V6. I get about 520-550km before the light switches on (after the engine has broken in), which is OK. It would get about 460-490km when I first got it. So yes, it's improved over time. The interior is a bit bland but it's off road focused. The vision looking out is exceptional. I wished they'd include top tether points for the third row. Otherwise, no complaints at all. If you're into saving money, buy the Prado. Boring 2.8L turbo diesel on a 4 cylinder. Uninspiring drive. If you're into making money and don't care about fueling costs, get the Lexus.
Well outside my price range, but if it was, no not to my liking or tastes. I'd be aiming for that big Luxury Lexus LM, as that just offers more and is hybrid to boot. 😊
Thanks for another top review. Look at all the hard cheap plastics on the dashboard, glove box lid and below the instruments. Toyota and lexus being cheap. The monotone interior colour doesn't help either. Do you get a updated or better built v6 or do you get machining debris included for that price. No buttons for hvac system is cheap too, a screen is cheaper to build but isn't as easy to use. Toyota used to be reliable, not anymore. I would buy a Defender over this. Doesn't look like value for money to me.
Suspect it’s down to packaging. They would remove the roof vents for second and third rows and therefore the controls, too. The third-row airbag coverage is deleted from Overtrail too.
Suggest doing your research on the V6 engines in these failing and how Toyota is responding with recalls and buybacks. There’s lots on the internet e.g. see Tinkerer’s Adventure “Is Toyota V35A-FTS Engine Reliable?” where he talks about 3 bearing issues in engines built in Japan, over 4 years, indicating it’s not just a US engine issue. The Car Guy Online is also following this story - see “2024 Toyota Tundra’s Soon To be Recalled”.
designed for the US market and Lexus thinks they cant sell it here, why bother unless you really want the Lexus version the Landcruiser Prado will be better due tot he turbo diesel option.
Sadly, Jeep has developed a massive underperforming reliability status. When they stay in the shop is costs are not only money but personal time, and energy.
Love everything about the Defender except for it's spotty reliability. Drake breaker. If only they had the same reliability of a Jayshree brand... When Mercedes has worked out their issues in the last 10 years....15?? Shrug
I really enjoy your reviews, but they are starting to look a tad amateur with you holding the camera yourself, they'd look a lot better and far more professional with someone else behind the lens :)
@jeppo1185 There's one thing a GWM Tank will never have, and that's why it will always only ever be a GWM Tank. It will never have a Toyota (Lexus) Badge ! It will never have Toyota reliability, Toyota resale value, or the Australia wide Toyota dealer network if you happen to do something stupid offroading in the Kimberleys !
Shame on you Toyota for a drab and sombre interior, it looks poorly packaged with limited storage too. Design is subjective of course but there's nothing premium about this vehicle, it looks too Toyota-generic and there's not a hint of faux-European prestige in this truck whatsoever. In typical Toyota fashion they'll no doubt rip-off the consumer too. Very disappointing indeed.
Lexus and Toyota quality great - but Toyota really under deliver for price. All of a sudden we are paying 20k more for base model. Functionality we used to get in a VX LC200 or Prado VX is only delivered via a Lexus? What the hell Toyota! For off roading should have had all the things in the Overtrail available in the Prado - but with the diesel from the L300. Now that would be a car people would really want, and drop the price to $100k. Toyota would kill off a lot of the Chinese opposition which is coming. Larger Tank and BYD Prado and LC300 killing options are here or coming and are at same or better spec levels. BYD 4WD PHEV's spec level will be 30-50k less. As long as they prove reliable and there is assured parts supply, they will take sales away from Toyota in Prado, LC300 and Lexus lines. Nissan really don't care about RHD / Australian 4WD market here anymore. GX220 fuel consumption is woeful and range of vehicle under 500km is shocking! Great power with the V6 twin turbo. Will be popular with people who can support its drinking problem. Why have they killed the swinging door and the tyre on the back! Seriously designed by people who've never had a flat out bush. I suppose they will call local Auto Club anyway. Suit well heeled people and/or private school Mums who need to carry the team during the week, and Dad's who like to do the occassional off road. They will see heaps to that market.

Pricing in Australia is getting way out of control. Repayments for this would send nearly everyone into financial hardship.

Why Lexus don’t offer rear A/C control on overtrail model in USA

To be honest, I can't even say this car is more luxurious than the LC Prado.

That is a cargo net holder not a grocery bag holder
Does it matter? You can put shopping bags on it. I did.
Overtrail needs the third row option...
It’s a curious spec thing - they clearly think that off-roaders want more boot space and fewer seats.
I will consider half price GWM Tank 500. I know it's not perfect, but it is half price 😊
