My wallet is so empty that adds reverb when I put it on my snare
Underrated comment💵🤣
@top.comment.god oh wait this doesn’t work here
Lol XD
Yeppp🤣🤣
yeah probably spent it all on the drums
Anyone else get anxiety watching him play on the reso head, or is that just me?
mittens71199 my butt cheeks clenched very hard when I saw that lol
mittens71199 YEEEEES!! I cringed and said “No. Baby, don’t do that...” 😬
I was genuinely scared
Was genuinely shocked they would even put that idea in people's head. Newbies are gonna blast a hole in their reso and have no clue why
It hurts me to watch that
First hack is false ... everyone knows drummers have no money.
This response is false... everyone knows drummers have no money which means they have no internet, get off your girlfriends computer.
Shhh, don't tell her@@AaronLevyDrums
(it's actually my mom's PC, drummers got no girlfriend)
Then use all the puss that drummers.....wait....nope, my bad..
😂 ok this actually got me

When you cut the skin out of that snare drum head (Hack #2), take the remaining hoop, remove the top rim of the snare drum, place the hoop on top of your existing snare head, replace the rim. It raises the rim further from the snare head (obviously), and you get a fatback rimshot with minimal effort. It's been a key to my snare drum sound for 30 years. Learned the trick in marching band.
hows ya knuckles??
Tried this last night on one of my snares. Very cool sound. I think I'm going to use it as an alt snare in my studio. I'm also going to sample it to use as a triggered sound. Thanks for the tip!
Great tip
Probably the first guy on UA-cam to mic up a pizza box
Pretty sure Captainsparklz did it in a "cardboard box taste test" video
That’s how I started at 11. One wood chair that sounded great, tin cookie boxes and a pan or two. Had to wait 11 more years to be able to purchase my 1st real drum kit, 5 pc gray marine pearl Rogers with Paiste cymbals.
I'm sure there is some ASMR somewhere lmao

@@Ikw3YFMR I stand corrected
The felt on the sticks is brilliant
theyd fly off if your not caREFUL
misterfrugellhound I used a little electric tape on both sides to keep it in place
Guy- *plays on the reso head
Me- “I see you like to live dangerously sir”
Hack#2 Addendum: Tape one half of a folding wallet to the side of the snare and let the other half rest on the head. Every time you hit the head the wallet will slightly bounce off the head and create a natural, gated reverb effect.
Hack#5 Addendum: Play your upside down snare with brushes and drag them on the snare bed creating a
scratch-like sound, emulating a DJ scratching vinyl.
It was after this video, that drummers all over the world shattered their snare reso head
NEVER PLAY THE SNARE RESO HEAD!!! But the other tips are really great.
why
@@umutozdemir9968 the head is so thin you can very easily dent it and you don't want to do that
@@umutozdemir9968 as the reso head is thin, it will damage it and not work properly when you play your snare the usual way.
juan carlito mendoza has an insane groove playing on the reso head.
@@CatatonicLover sound may be good for sure, but that means deforming the reso head and the snare wires, which can ruin the "normal" sound of the snare.
I got tingles while listening to the upside-down snare...

Better see a Dr about that ...
Why am I watching this I’m a guitarist

Same
Im to but befor i played drums and now i want to start drums again

Same here😂
That snare sounds just perfect!!
When I was 16 I wanted my snare to have a sharp piccolo crack to it so I cut out a nylon potato sack, placed it under my regular head and tightened it up heaps... it sounded darn incredible and got complements from ppl!
When you tweak the underside of your snare, you can turn the snarewires off, and put a stick in between the wires and the rim. The stick holds the snares up, and you can easily tweak the head:)
I have been playing for 35 years and it never occurred to me to use cymbal felts on my sticks..I feel stupid but it is cool
I've been trying to make decent mallets, and I've found that using Crayola brand 'model magic' is cheap, inexpensive, and effective. Be careful not to hit the hoop or edge of a cymbal as it can slice or break through the hardened foam.
No. 5 sometime turning your instruments upside down can come in handy...
**Plays the drum set in the ceiling upside down**
Yeah be very careful flipping over your snare drum..it's a very thin resonant head...not meant for striking it... Very easy to poke a hole... Just fyi
When i started drumming, i used my father's old drumset. Its snare had a 30 year old ambassador on top and a CS Black dot on bottom. No joke. One day i discovered a really thin used drumhead with a little crack in it and slammed it onto the snare top. I played that head, which was an ambassador snare reso, as the batter head for about 2 months. Didn't break, still looks like when i first found it. Of course i don't use it anymore, but it took the beating very well.
TLDR i played the snare the right way but with the heads changed up for 2 Months
Indeed. It requires a soft touch for sure: ua-cam.com/video/7xMVJnuB9dw/v-deo.html
One thing I've done for a different sound is turning the snare off during a song to completely change the sound for effect
I remember the first time I broke a snare, didn't have an extra head so I just flipped it and continued band practice lmao

I took my old 13" paiste visions hi-hat bottom & mounted it as a chime. Also works great as a small tingy ride cymbal for various things.
1. Never put an old head on top of a new one.
2. I like the mallet idea.
3. Don't have a wallet but this does work.
4. Never flipped my hi-hats
5. Never flipped over my snare
@Adolf Hitler Why thank you Adolf.
You're looking well these days. 😎
@Adolf Hitler fancy seeing you here.
@Adolf Hitler true lol. Once 2 people that I interacted on UA-cam, (different types of content) got into an argument. It's funny how on something as massive as the internet, you still find people you've seen before.
I have tama speed cobras, and they come with hard rubber beater pads. I placed chair leg felt cushions on the beater pads. Softened up the sound.
I've used a Paiste 502 Bottom HiHat with a Wuhan Bottom HiHat on top for quite some time, and while it's a bit chunky for more sensitive tunes, it helps balance the sound alongside my snare, which is tuned mid-high with only a single Moongel, and therefore pretty loud and full of overtones (just the way I like it).
I also tried a reso head as a batter one time in high school, since I had my kit there for practice, and took it off one of the defunct old snares that never got used. It was a bit more durable than I imagined, but you gotta be *soooo* careful, since I've torn fresh reso heads just by tuning them a quarter-turn too tight.
Another good tips ! Cymbal felt Mallet, upside down are very good hacks I didn't even think about these ! Long live home of drums who gives us so many interesting videos.
The snare part sound daam good😱😱😱, Going to try that one out surely
You deserve so many more subscribers, excellent quality with every video. Keep up the good work 👌
Thank you! Trying our best.
After this video I turn my snare on reso side, put an old snare plastic and a wallet on it, also put a cymbal felt on my drumsticks. Sounds cool
Love the upside down snare. 👌
Was in the middle of a church service, my bottom snare head busted. I took my 14-inch crash cymbal and put it under my snare. It gave me the Alex Van Halen snare sound LOL!
I love the snare sound whiteout any dampening. Personal preference
I forget where I picked this up from, but if you cut up old tom heads into strips they're great for using as snare straps.
Also means you've got loads spare in case another drummer needs them for a show!
Some very good hacks, gonna use them for sure!!!!
Great video, the examples are very well done. Thanks
My sort of drum hack: The good ole towel on the snare creates cool flat cracking sounds if you want to play more on the jazzy level.
Pretty cool sheeot!!😉👍🏼
My fav was the upside down snare.
This videos remind me of the Older videos of The King of Random.
That guy died
Brother you and your hacks are awesome! Great ideas!
Thanks so much for this,. my favorite is the felt malett... Cheers from Manila Philippines!
I liked #3. Thanks!
Anyone else prefer the snare without the wallet?
Me I like my snare to ring .
It depends on what you are looking for. For metal I want it to ring, but for tight funk I don't.
Andy The Drummer I play metal so!!! I would still like my snare to ring even if I was playing other types of music.
@@erictorres4889 ok!
Andy The Drummer just know what I like .
Superior Drummer has got to be one of my favorite hacks.
Very nice experimentation ! It gives good ideas to drill
Good ideas, quality video. I like it
These are great hack thanks I will use some of them for sure
That last beat 🔥🔥🔥
Nice tips!
That snare was killer sounding, until it was dampened.
Hi. Execllent information. Saludos desde Lima,Perú.
speaking of removing overtones, a piece of paper is my go to solution. Just lay it on top of the snare and if possible, tape it so it doesn’t move.
AWESOME!
Looking for a nice and cheap sizzle effect for your cymbals? No deal! Go to any hardware store and buy a WC chain made with little metallic balls, which will probably include a ring in one or both ends. Drop the ring on the cymbal stand top and let the chain rest on your cymbal. Try different lengths until you get exactly what you need. Keep grooving!
I've been doing that 1 for a long time... I like putting my dog tag chain from the navy on my ride cymbal.
That snare is so gooood
very useful!
Some of these are crazy go nuts! And yes playing the under belly of the snare is a wee bit risky
0:53 Paper also works, it sounds kinda different but I use it all the time lol
Good drummer in this video👌
Came for the hacks, stayed for the hi-hats, they sound fantastic. Which model Paiste are they?
Got it homie, you're so cool!
Ringo star used towels..back in the day...and one of my favs is loosening the heads till they start to wrinkle..then slowly adjust them out..wahlah...
Awesome😍 Myan
That snare side was dope.
The 🍕 pizza box trick✌️made me hungry😋...
the snare one is so sick wattttt😯
I broke my snare wire while practicing once and didn’t have a back up so I duct taped the broken wire to the back of my redo head. Made it sound like a piccolo snare 👌🏻
The last hack sounds really good
The brushes on that pizza cardboard sounds like a pepperoni pizza🤣
Hey...it's the tape guy, again. Beautiful gear in these videos. That snare drum is gorgeous, and the cymbals/hi-hats are as well. Don't like tape on the snare drum either but...not as cringe worthy as on a cymbal! Peace!
Putting between 3-5 sheets of just normal a4 paper on the toms (i usually put it on the floor Tom) gives it a really cool sound
Nice BMTH shirt!
Repping that bmth hoodie 🤘🏿
Ever had the clutch slip slowly up on your Hi-Hat just add another clutch no one has ever noticed and my Hats never move
T.S. Tatum see this is great advice accept I can’t find my old one so I’m kinda stuck
Mine started to slip on me. I just bought a nice drop clutch. Hasn't slipped in years.
How does one had another Clutch?
xKazaa Amazon
xKazaa Just add another clutch on top of the other one without the hi hat cymbals
A tambourine on the right drum can make a unique sound but like the snare reso head its not usualy recommended to break it right away unless you wanna pay for a new one. And a good snare isn't very cheap either
Thanks!
The mallet trick was pretty clever
Some snares have a little switchie thing on the side that tightens the whole snare and make a funky bungle drum sound
You really need to do a lesson on those last beats
Hi - loving your channel - any chance you would consider doing a segment on ways to eradicate/eliminate snare buzz (sympathetic)? Just asking. Thank you
Thanks........interesting...blees you from chile...
Hack number 2,you can also use it with your floor tom
I've used the taping a quarter to bass drum, and using wood beaters on the pedal,or pedals trick.Got the idea from Vinnie Paul 🤘🏻R I P.
thank you, i interested with idea use a double layer at upper snare...bravo!
Poor man's Big Fat Snare Drum.
I paint pictures on old drum heads!
Last beat was from SNLs Whats up with that show. Love that skit.
Upon purchasing 13” Sabian Paragon hi hats years ago,, I came to the realization that I didn’t like their sound,,, so I swapped hat positions which improved the sound.. still not totally happy, I purchased Sabian 13” X-Celerator hats , used the bottom X-Celerator on bottom with the paragon bottom on top,, least it’s works now
such a phat bass drum sound
What mics do you use? Really Great sound! Snare and over
many tnx :D
I liked the tip of putting a wallet on your snare!
Sounds really good actually
drummers don't have fat wallets like that! LOL
@Stork Legs good one!
@@1yamawai1 yeah no money in mine haha
if put acoustic foam from speakers or from studio wall into the toms and snare drum around the wood barell what kind of sound like?
I luv this channel and I Subcr
Die guten Ambiente-Kartons!
4:27 when you need a Guiro player but don't have one
BTW most reso heads aren't meant for direct strikes. Try using a clear head for your snare, and you will get similar results. (Less warmth, WAY more attack and pop depending on snare.) Great video!!!
what kind of drumset is that? and what snare? sounds great.
what microphone do you use to mic that snare?
When u played on the pizza box it was betyder asmr than most videos out there today
thank you.
わかりやすいです😊😊😊😊
Nice.
What snare is used in this video?
Yeah!
