I think adding proper atmospheric landings, better planet generation and minimal (at least) ship Interiors would do 100x more for the game than "Powerplay 2".
It may never happen. If you add dense atmospheres you have to also design entire ecosystems ( in some planets, at least ). That's not easy, unless they ban you from landing on those specific livable planets. I'll pray for it nonetheless. Better cosmic generation in general, in the other hand, is something i really, really, really hope they do next and it should be feasible.
@@omegadroidzero What you think that just "happens" like magic? The time and effort required to create new systems from scratch is not even in the same universe compared to adjusting already existing systems.
Ant, you missed the entire point of it's designed SCO capability, yes it's the slowest of the SCO capable ships, but it's MORE stable, fuel and heat efficient. With exploration you don't need raw speed, you need the ability to stay in SCO longer.
I quit elite dangerous 5 years ago, but never stoped listening to Cdr. Osidian Ant, so many years listening to you pal!! I might come back to Elite to check the changes.
how much money you leave when you left? I made sure to buy an Anaconda and have 1,000,000,0000 before I left. just in case they added cool stuff later.
Same. I mainly played on Xbox so when they stopped console support and tried to force everyone to buy Oddessey I bailed. Can't bring myself to come back to PC and regrind all the ranks and engineering I had on my Xbox CMDR. Still here for OA's updates though just in case something drastic changes at FDev.
It's a great time to come back. I just did and the news ships are cool, new boosted frame shift drive is cool, engineering is much friendlier and less grind
- Ship interiors with gameplay loops tied into it - Unlockable multicrew allowing you to actually have meaningful interaction and task delegation that would enhance the RP experience (i.e. allow a crewmember to pilot the ship if you explicitly enable it) - Atmospheric planets with weather systems - Better content accessibility that don't require you to take up Elite as a second job - Player owned capital ships and possibly asteroid stations - More variety e.g. more than just a single room on stations - Expand off of space legs - Better integration of ground to air combat and vice versa - Give me better value for my time - Allow mixed wings i.e. multicrew & ships but have size class limits to enhance the 'playing with friends' viability of the game; plus if we got better value for our time alongside that, then things like engineering and powerplay would be more accessible to people who have busier lives and player retention would improve. Pick any of those to start with, not a revamp of an existing system, do at least what you said you would do in the kickstarter, but god damn - please innovate and bring something truly new.
@@hagenisse I would honestly love to just have a friend co-pilot at the very least, its absolutely insane that its not a thing in this game and looks like it never will be. I have a close friend who I know would love to just sit and chill, listen to music or watch stuff and go and explore the galaxy or do space truckin' in the same ship, and it would be absolute fire to be able to go and make some food irl (for example) and actually get up from the pilot seat and let a friend take over for a bit, or at the very least be able to pass ship conn to their seat. When multicrew was first teased, I had such mixed feelings, it felt like such a cop out to just have other players as a projection on your ship. While I'm sure it helps explain away the ability to just appear there from many lightyears away, I don't think that's what anyone really wanted or expected. It ended up as just a gimmick feature that offers no tangible benefit to using it. I had such a large group of friends that were all into Elite for a fleeting amount of time, and occasionally we still mention playing it again, but I think the limitations that are there prevent any excitement to play. There were 6-7 of us playing at the time, so basically 2 wings, which meant we couldn't really participate with each other in a rewarding way, I tried going solo and helping my friends as a wing because I was the richest and had the biggest ships (and was arguably the best pilot through the amount of hours I had in the game compared to them), but I quickly realised that I also had goals and that we would never be able to have a true group experience. There just seems to be a growing concern in modern game development, that they don't know what consumers want, mostly either: a solid, immersive single player experience with a compelling narrative; or a multiplayer experience that is either extremely flexible that caters to many different playstyles, or an extremely specialised one that does one or two things really well and offers a very addictive gameplay loop contained within those things - most of the time they want to be able to do this with as many of their friends as they can.
Agree. Still don't understand why they're not touching atmospheric landings. Probably they can't without rewriting the whole game engine, maybe because that feature was never planned.
I'm glad to see the game is still being updated. Proper planetary atmospheres (including gaseous planets) is what I remain most hopeful for. Been waiting 10+ years.
I feel kinda clickbaited... I don't think one ship and minor update for minor feature is a BIG update... I don't even know how to engage in this powerplay thing
This update has not only the first new ship in years, it's also the first non-tweak change to a core game mechanic in years and a frankly seismic change in the game's funding model. Five years ago, the mere idea of selling a ship for real cash would have landed like bringing hamburgers to a vegan potluck.
I'm kinda bummed that they put so much dev time into a system I haven't once interacted with. Elite is so huge, and so many things need some work, too bad it went to PowerPlay. Maybe the 2.0 update will be neat, but I've literally ignored since it came out.
I think they're reworking it because of that. A lot of cmdrs don't interact with Powerplay for one reason or another, but by reworking it to make it a more desirable gameplay option, maybe they can bring some life into it. Like both past major engineering changes, I've known players that didn't want anything to do with the system. It was only after it was tweaked to make it less grindy or less rng based did they have an interest in it. I think putting the dev time into powerplay is a great choice. Sure it's not as flashy as ship interiors or atmospheric flight, but Fdev has had a history of making a new feature and then leaving it in a broken, half finished state to move on to the next "big thing" to only half bake it and start the cycle over again. So I'm glad they're putting time into improving what they already have, even if it means that the game doesn't really feel like it's taking big steps forward because of that.
Yeah I fell in love with it over exploration. Then moved onto engineering, then PVP, then Xeno, then amassing hoards of money and engineered ships, then came back around full circle to exploration but that didn't last long before I quit. Just not enough variety there for me to be interested so I've left and only look back to see if they're bringing something new to the game to get me playing again. So far, still waiting. 🙁
That's true for me too. I like to think they keep adding stuff here and there with each update, but i'd like a huge exploration/generation update with revamped planets, stars, phenomena and, well, all the mistery and discoverable stuff.
@@kyle1758That's always something I found funny about Frontier's priorities. They have a universe worth of content to explore with nothing to do in it. They should lean into exploration more, but they don't seem to get it. This makes me sad because I used to really enjoy playing the game - I need a reason to come back. 😔
They were selling the original Elite dangerous backgroun simulation based on pretty much similar sales pitch as they are now doing with this new update.... That was 10 years ago. Even the original powerplay was sold with similar sale pitch 9 years ago. The original delivery of this same promise was very bad, same with the second delivery and they have not lived up to any of their original promises. 3rd time the charm to try to sell the same thing with the same pitch. Now on top of not delivering on promises they ask to buy ships.... when all dlc and content was promised to be included in the life time pass. The skins i gave pass, but the ships....

I worry about their changes coming too little too late, as many have said before. I get that they're scrambling for income because of their other IP flops, but I worry this playerbase isn't strong enough to endure much longer. The game is old, the core gameplay loop is a bit tired, and I can't be alone in finding that no matter how often I return to the game, the loop never holds me more than a week or two anymore. The universe needs a massive injection of story, or fresh NPC/AI tech, etc. More voice work, memorable characters, more public events, actually having multiplayer presence in a massively multiplayer game. Powerplay needs to feel visible, and not feel like a background feature that it was before. Make me care.
Honnestly Frontier wanted to abandon Elite after Odyssey but it looks like it is now their main source of income, so they are doing the bare minimum to keep the game alive and make people believe the game will have major changes. The only thing they are good at is marketing
Yeah, Frontier neglected Elite dangerous for too long and too many people left years ago when Odyssey first launched. I took a break a few months before Odyssey launched to recharge my batteries for the game so to speak and waited for reviews of the expansion before getting it and from what I saw, it turned me away from the game permanently ever since. I've watched a few youtubers on Elite to keep up with what's going on in Elite if Frontier ever got their heads out of their butts, but it never happened until this year really and for me even though some of this stuff looks appealing, it's too late for me to want to get back into the game. The new ship definitely looks promising and would definitely be my explorer ship of choice, and I'd get a second one to experiment with for combat to see how it does, but just a single new ship is not enough to get me back in. I never cared for Powerplay all that much personally so redoing that does not really interest me either.
Powerplay was this biggest waste of development resources and now they have doubled down on it. I see the planets all still look like they are covered with wet sand. I haven't played in several years and I see no reason to come back in.
Yes, same here. I logged out 2.5 k LY underneath the galactic centre the night before the fleet carrier update and just couldn't bring myself to start the game ever since. I didn't even download the update and uninstalled ED several month later without ever launching it again. My Krait Phantom is still floating out there, somewhere...
There's a one man game dev making Unforgiven Space, in 2 years he already has ship interiors and walking on planets. It's way pre Alpha and low poly but the funtionality is there. Warframe has ship interiors AND hireable AI crew that man turrets, repel boarders, diffuse bombs and put out fires. I would mention SC but I don't have enoughtime to read all the crying/raging replies. SC is good not perfect and it's playable....fact. People want immersion and function not political grinding. FDev is avoiding this and dancing around the eventuality of them announcing EOS. A smarter move would be to try selling the IP off to a studio that would care about doing what it takes to make a real and long lasting profit. Ship Interiors Better planet atmospheres More planet and Biome diversity less grind better FPS EVA ability AI Baldes/Crew that actually do stuff.(only ever saw mine pilot a small fighter, usless otherwise) More ship variety More ground vehicle variety Bring console support and VR support back. This "Update" is borderline insulting to the people who sadly keep having their hopes dashed.
People want ship interiors but never give a valid reason why they want them. Plus they never even considered why odyssey did to the game when it released. If anything, we don't need to worry about ship interiors as much as we should have a priority on just general exploration. Honestly an expansion to exploration and maybe some of the trading and piracy. Even a crime rerework would be great. Because despite it being in a better state than it used to be. But it doesn't change that they never fixed it when odyssey released.
@@pagansavage5267 problem of Empyreon is the graphics and animations suck... On the other hand i don't this this experience is what ED players are looking for.
i dont agree with the grinding part. you need the grind, imagine with interior in ships and planets with vegatation, grinding will def be easier than. i dont want to land on the same rock over and over again. i play star citizen also, its a good game but its still in alpha, bugs and game is hard too.

They one chance left to overhaul this game, if they don't add this stuff (which almost everyone that doesn't parrot the "It won't add anything meaningful matra" wants) then the game will be effectively dead soon. Elite could be the best space game ever made and its disgusting to see them squander the chance they have for it.
@@mookithehamster5639 Afraid there's little hope now for ED IMHO. The design and development of ED for the past 5+yrs has been a litany of poor design choices, with Odyssey being a tour de force of wasted effort.
There is nothing here. The game needs more content. There are only so many circles you can spin while killing bots, empty planets you can explore, and so many goods you can offload before you get bored. I remember a time when this game actually had a development roadmap. If everything had gone to plan we would be able to hunt down animals on atmospheric worlds by now. The devs either lost their vision or don't care to make it anymore. 10 years is a long time.
am i the only one bored to death by this talk about powers? They can make this stuff matter but I am not sure they will make it fun. Fun would be to build your base on planets and find worms and bugs etc. instead of only static dildos when doing exobiology.
They can't beat EVE and X4 in this regard so i don't know why they insist. ED core is (or should be) eploration, and theres few things missing in this game to make exploration in ED feels meaningful, one is ship interiors, simple for immersion alone, another would be more variety of worlds, and third would be expand the gameplay beyond the bubble.
@@imunfathomable I'm not the only one who thinks this way, by the way none of the things said here are unfeasible an unreasonable. Ship interiors is a common demand from players AND everyone agrees that this add value in the game in the form of immersion. More variety of worlds is making at least SOME FEW worlds more atmospheric and alive with maybe fauna and flora. Expand the gameplay beyond the bubble i admittedly don't know how Fdevs would do that but it's not by the lack of possibilities, for fk sake it's a whole Milk Way, i'm sure there's more interesting things than targoids and dead rocks.

except you won't be able to grind it, you will have to buy it for the first few months. I would have bought Elite 2 with a ton of improvements, I would have paid $70 for it even if it was good enough. but I'm not buying a new ship.
Feels like the game is on life support. The big changes that would have brought players back are things like atmospheric landings, ship interiors, ship crew (including ai) etc. I canr help feeling that frontier have completely mismanaged elite.
@@cmdrandreyuenari4150 i agree on that. There is no need for having the exact game elements like Star Citizen. Instead they need to focus on other core elements what made elite so fun to begin with like we had from 2014
Big Update? Because of some new ships? What is with base building? Planets with water, gras and trees? Buy and Selling between players or npcs. Own stations or player based mining companys? That would be a big update.
i agree on that, why no guns and stuff. more gameplay. power play is not for most. however yes it does effect us, maybe in a negative way, depends on the wars, it does not help ED . @@Krymbo Nah, give X4 a try and see how ship interiors can immerse you in the universe and make it an overall better experience with the game. For some it sounds something small, but it has a very big impact on the game and player experience; even if it's not really too practical.
@@Krymbo Honestly, you are right, if someone wants ship interiors, just play star citizen. I often hear people comparing star citizen and elite, saying how good star citizen is, only because of the interiors. As someone with over 800 hours in both of the games, star citizens interiors are really cool, but they are so buggy that you have a 50% chance of dying by moving around in your ship while not stationary. Last time i played, my ship kicked my cargo through the floor, not the most fun when you spent 4 hours mining for it. You make a habit out of not moving around in your ship during flights, but still, its so buggy, i like both games, but for different reasons.
No matter what fluff F-devs do, Frontier still ingores Odyssey VR and walking around your ships, along side cargo, not following you when you change ships!
VR is dead, so no surprise they don't allocate resources on it. Ship interiors though would be hugely popular(along with EVA possibilities), as seen in Scam Citizen. I can't understand why they don't add them.
@@franticsledderVR in ED is amazing, and given the new models coming out far from dead. I don't believe SC is a scam, but I was convinced Odyssey was and probably still is.
Interiors weren't added because one of the devs said a scenario what if you were on the ground and someone was attacking you? You would have to enter ur ship go up all the way to the brig just to get away But ofcourse there can be an option to go to the brig immediately like what we have but idk
Hearing any news from FDev now is like listening to that one friend who always talks about their big plans for the future, and then clocks in at McDonald's for the 10th year of their life.
When are you guys going to take a hint and notice that ship interiors are a waste of time? Cool, something to look at for maybe 2 minutes before you walk past it without a second thought. You're a commander. You belong in the cockpit.
@@GuyWithAHat "You belong in the cockpit", yeah my dude, too late for that. It's called Odyssey. (Even if just for the Generator?), ever thought of decoration pieces? E.g. Warframe? Or just generally the awesome addition to immersion ... ? You are actively hurting Elite with your sentiment and I must confess, for that I honestly have no respect whatsoever.
While the Mandalay looks cool and I appreciate the efforts towards making PP something more worthwhile to engage with beyond "need to pledge to get prismatics," my concern is that it'll fall into the trap of "the same but different" as what buggered about everyone with the OG PP. I say that because from what you've described it feels even more disconnected from the BGS and system factions than before, when it should be the other way round. Like what is even the point of system factions at this stage in ED? Also, whatever happened to the Guardians? Why haven't we gotten anything new in that direction? The Guardians stuff was some of the most engaging stuff in the game way back when, yet it seems to have turned into a "go on quest to get FSD booster" meme.
Max jump range has never been an explorer thing only those who wish to jump quickly long distance to get somewhere fast rather than actually exploration . Just shows how much fdev understand the player base ? The ship looks good and it's a shame I wont get it due to my platform along with PP2 .
IKR?!? Galaxy simulation based on astronomical data... And we are getting pew pew for years with a full fledged alien war and then politics as a content overhaul. Oo The one feature that is actually unique in Elite has been neglected since forever. The Mandalay is my highlight in years... And that's just a ship.
i said it since day one, many will disagree...the size of all the star systems is actually a BIG L for FDEV creativity/ quality wise. But they promote it as a feature, apart from a handful of die-hard explorers, many of which play by themselves only...it limits what they can focus on. Going for the Quantity over quality route is something that a country like China would do....mile wide inch deep. So many other titles have gone for a handful of custom crafted planets and just added mores systems as the game develops...which i think is better. The evidence i have is, they keep making travelling faster/ better with bigger jump capacities (incl the new mandalay ship) coz they realise the Vastness of the void is an issue.
Do you want to spread the players ( or what is left of it) even more across the space? Last time they had more than 10 000 players on Steam was December 2022, now they are averaging around 4000 players.
This was a hard watch Ant. Which isnt your fault, but a couple minutes on a ship, ending with 'that you have to pay for' then 15 minutes of boring powerplay is just hard to sit through. The way I see it, The only way I would ever come back to Elite is if they went above and beyond for the players. Give us 10 new ships, not paid content either. Give us the ship interiors people have been asking for for near 10 years now... Atmospheres too, make the galaxy great again, give us USS missions or something fun, and drop a huge, heartfelt apology for having lost their way and let so many people down. Maybe my opinion doesnt matter, but short of that Frontier are lost. They dont know what to do with their game. So...if they cant make it work, just sell it. Give someone else a shot at it.

Gonna be honest I was so angry about odyssey that I quit playing for years and never wanted to give Fdev money again, but this ship is a beauty and given that the core gameply (without odyssey) is still awsome I think I'll buy the mandalay and fluff off into the void for a few months, just for the feeling again.
@@jonathangraham429 Odyssey killed the consoles, destroyed the planet generation/changed it in the boring thing we have now, the on foot combat was and still is something that Fdev should be utterly ashamed of. Even now I'm still getting pissef if I think about the wasted potential.
@@jonathangraham429 If ya have to ask you're not a fan of Elite. FDev shit the bed for years before that update, and completely over promised and under delivered. They spent their resources on 3rd party IP they never made their $ back (except for JP?) and took away development for the one game that actually makes them $$$$. The lack of focus on Elite burned the player base, and there wasn't any effort to build on the QOL functions. Over all very disappointing, especially if you bought the $300 full game with all "future" updates included.
Hello Ant, thank you for helping me keep up with Elite development. May I just suggest you bring your microphone gain down a bit, when recording. Your voice is clipping quite a lot and this video was much louder than your other videos. Cheers.
Just imagine if Frontier had listened to us and gave us planetary landing for Earth like worlds, water worlds, and ship interiors So much potential wasted.
That would have been nearly impossible for them to do because of the choices around realism. That was always the issue. If you want no man's sky you have no man's sky, but realistic 1:1 earth-like worlds is not even remotely an easy ask unfortunately. And the issue with water worlds and ship interiors, while they are far easier to do, is near zero gameplay associated with them. That's not to say they couldn't or shouldn't do them, but it wasn't how they prioritised.
I think this ship is the perfect addition to ground based gameplay. Your two friends can use a scorpion while you use a scarab, which is a good combo for settlement raids. It has a competitive amount of jump range and is a mid ship able to dock anywhere. When they expand upon the ground features I think this ship will be used a lot.
They'd have so many people playing this game if they brought out ship interiors and proper crew roles. This game has lost so many players to Star Citizen now it's insane

And as an added bonus, the devs can save some time and energy when making a new ship as well. It's a win-win for the devs and the in-game lore.
What I would love, in this next update, or the next big update, would be two things The first. An update in the way a ship is handled on a planet, I would like something like "war thunder", depending on the angle of the nose the speed increases or decreases. that would give a special touch to the combat inside the planets. The other, would be the opportunity for ship weapons to do damage to pilots standing, I would give much importance to win the battle both terrestrial and area, when I played they feel very separate.

So nxt update is a new ship and a revision of something that 20 people play... OK :) Good job Frontier, you really put a lot of efforts in ED, I can tell :D
All the people calling for ship interiors. I get, I would love to walk around the command deck of my Corvette. There is a problem though. Unless you give a reason to the space, the ability to do stuff, it is mostly worthless. You'll get out a few times, think it is cool and look around, but ultimately you won't engage with it, or even skip it because how long it takes to do stuff. So maybe along with ahip interiors, offer other things that can be added inside you can do.
Oh I know what I want. Give us some systems to interact with, maybe a way to repair things from the interior. Replace parts that are damaged etc. And people like you seem to forget about the immersion factor just having the interiors would impart. There is a lot of things you can do with ship interiors to add to the immersion. Manually launching your Rover, multi crew switching stations for different reasons. Just because I don't list specific things doesn't mean we don't know what we want from having the interiors...
@@williammullinax6130 People like me huh? You assume much, as I am well aware of the immersion factor, but the immersion factor alone is not enough for something like this. Agreed. We have interiors for FCs. Once FDev add boarding, salvage, customization, repair, etc. gameplay to FCs, and players love it, then sure think about to time to reproduce it on every single ship.
Atmospheric landings, better planet generation, ship interiors and three monitor support, that would be worth a solid $25 expansion. Imagine also being able to take your NPC crew on foot; equip them with basic gear, give them specific commands, let them help you scan or fight. Hell, up the expansion to $40 and give us worlds with either full on terrain; water included, seasons, whatever. It can be done, you just need money and we're willing to provide.
The Mandalay misses the point: for explo, you need a "suspended" cockpit UNDER the ship, basically in the spirit of the Krait but with a full glass floor. This feels like combat ship. LY is the most important thing for newbies, but seasoned explorers know it's not the most important thing.
I mean, even with a glass bottom cockpit, it's still nicer (at least for me) to just fly upside down, better view and less of the seat/HUD/controls getting in the way
I'm so excited, but I don't understand releasing an Exploration ship alongside Powerplay 2.0. Now I'm conflicted, do I stay in the bubble or do I go play in my new toy?
Honest question. I got Elite Dangerous a few years ago on PS4. After getting used to the simulation aspect of flying my ship, there was almost nothing to actually do. It was very dry. After they abandoned consols, I never got the PC version but tried to pop in on your videos on it every so often. The question is this; why are people still playing this game when there are a solid handful of better space games out there with more heart and flavor? I mean, a new ship and another power play season might sound like a big update for Elite, but games like No Mans Sky get updates like this every 3-6 months without charging their players a dime. X4 has almost everything Elite has, but is single player. Even Starfield and Star Citizen look like they have more variation and content.
0:48 "sacrificing meneuverability isn't ideal when it comes to exploration" - what is the connection between exploration and maneuverability? I can't imagine any. Exploration mostly goes in uninhabited systems.
We have this great new update for our hyper realistic space exploration and combat game........ wooo!.... It's politics... aww ffs. Really not going to invest any time in powerplay. everything else is such a grind as it is.
Still waiting for the holy grail update: "Ship life", ship interiors, get up from your chair and walk through 'YOUR' ship, like its a home in space, reasons to have ship interiors, like labs and cargo and other career suites that let you trade and manage your empire while aboard ship, work upwards towards high value network assets like your own mining stations, commerce stations, planets, solar systems and more. I want this game to be what it truly could be, wake me up when that update drops.
@@efxnews4776Hey, if X4 was friend multiplayer, I'd be busy with that most of the year. Wouldn't even need fighting on foot, there's enough to do already.
@@Techigai in think first person combat would greatly improve the experience in X5, but the game is great the way it is already. As for multiplayer, I'm not very keen about it, I don't like to play online, ED is an exception to this rule since i can simply explore alone the galaxy.
Ca. 3 Months after her initial release in October. At least if frontier keeps a similar "early access"-periode like they did with the Python MK II and Typ-8
Frontier releases a single ship and a single system overhaul in the time it takes other developers to release entire games, it's laughable. Even when they release something that COULD be compelling they manage to screw it up royally; Cruisers are a waste of time and money, Multi-Crew was DoA and never fixed, they nerfed core mining because they thought people were making too much money. I truly, deeply wanted more from Frontier, and it's become abundantly clear that they're never going to offer anything more than incremental changes at glacial speed until they close the servers. I don't regret the endless hours I poured into Elite but it does leave a sour taste in my mouth that it could have been so, so much more than it is or ever will be.
too bad we'll never see those awesome old planets from pre-odyssey, and let me guess, we still just pop in and out of the ship and cant walk around the damn thing
Looking forward to that ship, and this SCO thing seems cool. It's been a bit since i've played. I'm about 188 jumps outside the bubble because... well... thargoid combat wasn't a lot of fun. In any case, these SCO things, can those be outfitted on regular ships? And are they moving toward an ARK only system or is in game currency still worthwhile? I have about 4.5B, so enough to play on, but not really enough for the deep exploration you get with a fleet carrier.
The way the concept of using ships and engineering, convenience in general, is evolved over the years in Elite, is much like the real life generational shifts. Not long ago our grandparents had to go get their own stuff, and today we can get it delivered to our door. Yesteryears the Elite players had to grind to get engineering and ships, now they can get it from the get go. Let us hope new challenges arise, so players have more storytelling segments to solve and explore, while exploring and solving mysterious stories (perhaps player created ones). Hoping for more design and home decor segments for our ships and personal bases, territories, factions. Eventually, we may see a player as Emperor, president, or prime minister of a major faction, or even the super powers (Not to mention Alien hyper powers).
The Mandalay sounds excellent. Will be interested to try it out vs my Asp (I don’t use the Ananconda for exploration because of its size and limited cockpit view). It looks very pretty too, clearly taken some inspiration from the imperial ships
Ship interiors, HUD customization.. Why dont they do it? It's free money. Star citizen is just stumbling around swoop in and take a bigger share of the market. I swear frontier are managed by baboons. Oh and proper atmospric worlds is hard and takes time we get it but that could be a long-term goal. Jesus christ just do it.
Dont hold your breath for a console update, they discontinued support completely back when odyssey came out, and when asked if they would ever bring support back, the lead dev said he had no interest in doing so
I'm actual looking forward to this. I tend to play alone in open and this makes me feel like I'm contributing to the galaxy instead of just existing in it. I hope this is a sign that there is plenty of life in elite.
Powerplay 2.0 is DOA unless it provides some kind of incentive to play in open and risk resistance from rival pledgers... That's why it was never popular - there's no point in doing all this stuff if you cannot fight or tactically evade rivals actively engaged in Powerplay (rather than just opportunistically ganking a rival player you randomly come across). The anti-open crowd will shit on this idea... but most of them do not do powerplay either.
i believe NOTHING done in solo or private group should affect the bgs or powerplay, that would change the face of the universe for the better, if players are going to screw with your bgs, at least you should have the opportunity to put them in rebuy.
Look at the ramp on that new ship! I wonder what it looks like inside ... Minimum content, maximum timescale; extremely disappointing. Have they only got 2 devs working on this?
Instead of having set class module bays, they should give you a number of raw module "points" you can use, to configure with whatever class bays/modules you can arrange into that budget. Similar to backpack systems in survival games. This would allow much more variation in ship builds.
Honestly, the only way they are going to get the player base back is to follow Star citizen, Ship Interiors, Many new ships, updated foot combat, More Modern like Guns and so on... If they had this and made it work then it would make the game amazing.. I have been playing Elite for over 7 years but star citizen is taking over.
Can't wait to get my hands on the Mandalay and review it - although it'll have to go a long way to knock the Krait Phantom off the top spot for exploration (personal preference ofc)
Overdrive is over rated. 100 plus light year jump range please.Don’t care about power play and yeah maybe FDev should concentrate more on the vast empty Milky Way rather than the bubble.
Interesting to see the abandoned Fleet Carrier science (exploration) support ships in the video (from 9:21). EDIT - OK. I see these are part of the Stronghold Carrier coming in PP2 - I had not known about that before.
I have 2500 hours in Elite and stopped playing right after Odyssey dropped (which i bought and played), few months ago i played about 20 hours just for mining a bit...but its 6-7 months after that and i still cant found strenght to jump back and not be bored after 30 minutes
I am glad they are continuing to support the game. Always thought they were done with it after Odyssey flopped, glad I was wrong. New ship looks quite cool!
Heres the positive comment you're looking for. Very happy elite is getting so much proper attention from the devs this year. Defiantly on a upwards trend. 3 new ships is incredible, along with SCO, which absolutely helps short attention span players (star citizens lol). With power play being such an important system to keep this game feeling alive and even in the state it's in by far out does its competitors to make it feel alive and a "cause and effect" rich galaxy. Its important for long term play. Everyone for years kept saying space legs would never come. And it did, and now its fuctional. I want ship interiors too, we all do and the devs know this but They are trying to improve the things that will help players come and stay in elite, it will come. Theres a huge community out there that doesnt hate and complain about the game everytime something good is added. And lets talk about engineering! Like holy crap is possible now, i dont need to sell my left nut and sacrifice a goat to get enough mats to get my modules to G5. Engineering is so much more accessible now. The game is good. If you're bored of the game, your playing it wrong. Elite is a game where you have to make your own fun and goals and have fun by achieving those goals. -been playing since 2016. -Net worth: 7 billion
How delusional are you?? lmao The writing is literally on the wall. These developers have resorted to selling ships for real money to the few addicts still playing this dogshit game because they know full well they are on a sinking ship (announcing EOS) and just want to squeeze out as much money as possible out of the sweaty, no life addicts before the ship actually sinks. Anyone thinking that 3 new ships for real life money is Elite going in an upwards trends is either delusional, ignorant or both.
Elite is the game with 2nd amound of hours played for me. I loved it for a long time, but I never got into the last payed update. The bad performance and uninteresting content could not convince me to upgrade. Now I see this video and again the same feeling comes over me. Although I quit playing Elite actively I keep it installed to take a look now and then after a I see a new Obsidian Ant video. At least his content keeps being great!
Again a very entertaining and informative video. I just have one question, which I could not find answered anywhere yet: HOW TO KEEP SUPERPOWERS OUT OF A SYSTEM? ;)
I think your confused with Star Citizen. This game has WONDERFUL VR. I suspect this is a troll post...hahah hahah hahah . You've had your 15 minutes.. good bye.
I think adding proper atmospheric landings, better planet generation and minimal (at least) ship Interiors would do 100x more for the game than "Powerplay 2".
Would also require completely new systems to be developed instead of just tweaking existing systems
@@HenryHarcsa and?
i think their funding isnt enough for that, frontier would rather spend millions on a boring roller coaster game

- Ship interiors with gameplay loops tied into it
- Unlockable multicrew allowing you to actually have meaningful interaction and task delegation that would enhance the RP experience (i.e. allow a crewmember to pilot the ship if you explicitly enable it)
- Atmospheric planets with weather systems
- Better content accessibility that don't require you to take up Elite as a second job
- Player owned capital ships and possibly asteroid stations
- More variety e.g. more than just a single room on stations
- Expand off of space legs
- Better integration of ground to air combat and vice versa
- Give me better value for my time
- Allow mixed wings i.e. multicrew & ships but have size class limits to enhance the 'playing with friends' viability of the game; plus if we got better value for our time alongside that, then things like engineering and powerplay would be more accessible to people who have busier lives and player retention would improve.
Pick any of those to start with, not a revamp of an existing system, do at least what you said you would do in the kickstarter, but god damn - please innovate and bring something truly new.
In other words, you want X4 or Star Citizen. I don't think FDev's engine nor its technical teams are up to the task, I suspect...
yeah, I have no idea why they add a multicrew* seat for this new ship when there's nothing you can do together or benefit from together when exploring
I would reinstall and play non stop for this update lol
Agree. Still don't understand why they're not touching atmospheric landings. Probably they can't without rewriting the whole game engine, maybe because that feature was never planned.
I'm glad to see the game is still being updated. Proper planetary atmospheres (including gaseous planets) is what I remain most hopeful for. Been waiting 10+ years.
sounds less likely than star citizen becoming a real game
I feel kinda clickbaited... I don't think one ship and minor update for minor feature is a BIG update... I don't even know how to engage in this powerplay thing
This update has not only the first new ship in years, it's also the first non-tweak change to a core game mechanic in years and a frankly seismic change in the game's funding model. Five years ago, the mere idea of selling a ship for real cash would have landed like bringing hamburgers to a vegan potluck.

This is the 3rd new ship this year.

@@GuyWithAHat Because we are talking about ED, not about NMS. What you said makes absolutely no sense.
I agree, over promising and under delivering.

A massive galaxy and they focus on the bubble.
IKR?!?
Galaxy simulation based on astronomical data... And we are getting pew pew for years with a full fledged alien war and then politics as a content overhaul. Oo
The one feature that is actually unique in Elite has been neglected since forever.
The evidence i have is, they keep making travelling faster/ better with bigger jump capacities (incl the new mandalay ship) coz they realise the Vastness of the void is an issue.
pvp content
Do you want to spread the players ( or what is left of it) even more across the space? Last time they had more than 10 000 players on Steam was December 2022, now they are averaging around 4000 players.
My dream is that one day ED will get ship interiors.

Just imagine if Frontier had listened to us and gave us planetary landing for Earth like worlds, water worlds, and ship interiors So much potential wasted.
Yea man agree.
So... can we finally get up and walk around the interior of the ships?
I still close my eyes and dream of what could have been if they put all that effort in disjointed ground missions and instead made ship interiors.

What I would love, in this next update, or the next big update, would be two things
The first. An update in the way a ship is handled on a planet, I would like something like "war thunder", depending on the angle of the nose the speed increases or decreases. that would give a special touch to the combat inside the planets.

Atmospheric landings, better planet generation, ship interiors and three monitor support, that would be worth a solid $25 expansion. Imagine also being able to take your NPC crew on foot; equip them with basic gear, give them specific commands, let them help you scan or fight.

Instead of having set class module bays, they should give you a number of raw module "points" you can use, to configure with whatever class bays/modules you can arrange into that budget. Similar to backpack systems in survival games. This would allow much more variation in ship builds.

It's not very appealing as a "Big Update."
Again a very entertaining and informative video. I just have one question, which I could not find answered anywhere yet: HOW TO KEEP SUPERPOWERS OUT OF A SYSTEM? ;)
Every update I look for VR support and every update I'm disappointed .
What is missing from the VR?
