Perfect comparison vid! Just what I needed. Wanted to drive the east coast of Australia solo in my Honda Jazz. Looks like a well planned inside car bed would be most suitable for me.
How accessible are rooftop tents in the city? I surf and snowboard and the inside of my vehicle is typical filled with gear and sometimes even my dog. I bought a rooftop tent but have only used it for camping in the woods. Would really like to use it more on long trips to avoid hotels! Haha great video btw!
Great sense of humour...on your vids!! Informative..Realistic 'Advice'!! Nickelback ...hey i'm not going to Criticize ( they are 'Millionaires'!! ). i have this 'idea'!!?? Which is best Low cost camping roof top tent and material. Actually i am an indian and I worked in saudi arabia. I have fj 2008 model , I planned a trip across saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 with FJ ( a van life ). I Expecting more support from you .
If cost is the most important thing, then the cheapest rooftop tents available are the soft shell rooftop tents. I have only experienced the ARB Simpson 3 softshell rooftop tent, so I can't tell you which one of the softshell tents is the best one, but the ARB was a very durable and well built tent. I would say that generally, the softshell tents tend to use the same types of materials for construction. These types of tents range between approximately $800 to $2000 USD. If rain is not an issue for you, and you can afford to take an extra 5 minutes to set up and take down the tent (over the time it would take for a hardshell rooftop tent), then I think you should consider any of the softshell rooftop tents.
I am curious about SUV tents that attach to the back of an SUV. My fear is the battery would run out having the hatchback open for long periods of time. Thoughts?
You should be okay as long as your car dome lights are turned off while your hatch is open. When I go camping, I usually leave my trunk door open all day and I’ve never run into any issues with being able to start my car. The only light that would be on is the indicator light on the dash telling you that a door is open. As a precaution though, carry a car battery booster with you just in case, they’re fairly cheap. I talk about them in my 5 tips for car camping video. Hope this helps!
FJ cruiser is one of the best looking cars ever imo
Best video I have seen on camping sleeping systems, kudos?
I always sleep in my FJ - boondocking, because those rooftop tents will add major drag and causes your MPG to soar.
Pretty solid rundown brother. Thanks.
Just subbed. I'm a camper & FJ driver (2007). Great info, please keep 'em coming.
That's awesome, thanks for the support!! More coming for sure
Great video!! Can’t wait to get my FJ!

So glad it was helpful, and sounds like an amazing trip!!
Very good information buddy. Most practical advice.
I think weather is another factor in determining the type of tent.
Thanks! And good point
“Or just blast nickelback all night long “ 😂
Got an 05 Escape Hybrid. Haven't slept in her yet.
