I just found myself an Evasion Evolution for my new white FJ!!! Crying with joy! Been looking for the right set up for months, & only after choosing the Evo did I find this video. Such a relief to see it's clearly a good match. Love the review - best Ive seen so far.
Wanted to let you know your excellent videos on the James Baroud Evasion have convinced me to purchase one for my Toyota FJ. It arrives in a couple of weeks. Can't wait. Keep up the your very informative and creative work. Thank you!
Wow! That was way the best review I've seen so far on UA-cam. You covered anything someone should know. And by the way, that back door is useful for those who want to get in from the back of the car. Not my case, but it is an option to consider. Great video, in 4k! Thumbs up!
Awesome review, that's the best roof top hard shell I've seen so far. Better than the ones I looked at in Australia, the XL would be a party size room. Those windows give an incredible outlook.
Excuse me, you mentioned a video review (or at least lots of info in a review-like way) for the optional wall segments. Is that still planned for the future or did I overlook that somehow? I really like these sort of review very much because your approach is very focused on the practical aspects and your obviously really using that stuff. Keep it up and simple :D
Hey Guy.... Great review! You are right, it is a lot of money. However, your review helped push me one more key and knowledgeable step forward in making a decision. Keep em' coming!
Great review. I notice that you have the awning up along the tub of the tent. Are you still able to use the ladder on that side given the location of the ladder brackets? I am planning on purchasing one of these tents and will need to set up the awning similar to what your's looks like, so any tips will be great.
Thanks! The awning brackets are custom ones that I designed to work with the Baja Rack, and so depending on how much room you leave between the ladder brackets of the RTT and the ARB awning, you could probably still mount the ladder in the slots. Even though in theory, you can use the ladder on the same side as the awning if it’s closed, I wouldn’t suggest it. I would just mount the ladder on the other side. James Baroud makes their own awning that actually lets you put the ladder on the same side as the awning - there’s a square cutout where the ladder mounts, and then there’s a cover that goes overtop to provide complete coverage. If I had known about it earlier I would have probably gone with the James Baroud awning. Anyways, hope this helps!
Question: Since it’s a hardtop tent, wouldn’t fixed solar panels be a little easier ? I am interested in the product after your review, if we kept them reasonable, would you be willing to try that out if I sponsored the solar ?

@@stokedtour ...i support Most of my Asian/Canadian 'Brothers' & sister's!!!! ...with that SAID...STILL a GREAT informative Review on the JB tent!!!! cheers!
Have the same, very good review! Another pro is the material, especially the material of the tent itself. In germany it is called "GFK" and better than other synthetic materials.
Great video brother. What about when it is cold/winter season? How warm is it inside? Or do you use a small heater at all? I have noticed all videos don’t mention this at all. Thanks!! 👊🏽
Yes you can! I've stored two pillows and a medium thickness duvet in there before without any issues. there is a good amount of room for you to work with
Thanks for this excellent review. Are you still using it, how do you like it after 2 years? What do you think of the weight on the roof while driving and off roading? thanks from Australia :)
Yeah i'm still using it! It's been like 5 years now, and it still feels like new. The weight is something that you really can't get around, so just make sure your GVM is upgraded to handle everything 👍
In the daylight you won't get blackout with all the windows up. It does a good job though of keeping as much light out as possible. Sometimes i've slept through till noon haha
Question: did you buy the anti-condensation mat with this tent? I’m not sure whether this mat is needed given that this tent has the fan. Any advice you have would be helpful. Thanks.
I did not have an anti condensation mat, I only had the fan and kept some windows open. I'm assuming the anti-condensation mat goes under the mattress? If having a cool mattress is important, then that would be a good idea to get one. The fan won't be able to help you circulate air out from under your mattress since it is not that powerful, but the combination of having a fan as well as good circulation under the mattress should work better. Ultimately, depending on what climate you are camping in, you may still have condensation anyways, even with the fan running. The fan will just help you lower the condensation to a level that is related to its power. I hope this helps!
@@stokedtour thanks for the reply. Yes, James Baroud sells the the mat that goes under the mattress, and it is quite expensive at $310 USD. It’s okay if it’s a must have, but not sure since I have not use the tent. I will probably wait and see after I have a chance to use the tent. Thanks again. Pls keep up the great videos. I really enjoyed them as they are both informative and funny.
Yes the original roof rack can support the James Baroud, but you do need to purchase at least 2 lateral bars to attach to the FJ's original roofrack in order to mount the tent. Here's a guy who mounted his tent this way: www.fjcruiserforums.com/threads/weight-limits-on-roof-top-tents.73056/. Mounting it this way leaves a large gap between the roof of the car and the bottom of your tent, and so I chose to get a lower profile roof rack to close that gap down. The downside to getting a lower profile rack is that it's not as easy for me to reach my hands and arms in there to fasten the mounting brackets haha. Hope this helps!
Yes - confirmed there are holes to provide venting behind those vent covers. On the inside of the tent, the hole is covered by a permeable fabric. Hope this helps!
Thanks for posting this dude. I'm looking at the new explorer version, but their USA website says sold out and no response from them. Where did you buy yours?
No worries man! Where are you located? I'm in Canada and I got in contact with the guys at The Gear Shop in Calgary, they're a JB dealer. thegearshop.ca
Yeah I have a side awning attached. Thinking I'd like one in the back too since that's where all the storage drawers are. Those 270 degree awnings might be worth a shot
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I actually had a lot of trouble looking for one here in Canada but ended up finding these guys in Calgary thegearshop.ca/ and the owner Nathan set me up. Really nice guys!
Hey i have the same color FJ and want to get the same tent. How does the color of the tent match up with the iceberg white on the FJ? Good channel btw +1 subscribers 👏
Nice! I think the white matches up nicely - if you wanna see more of how it looks, I have a lot more on my Instagram @wokenstoked. I also chose white because in the summer, it will deflect more of the sun's rays so it won't bake inside the tent. Appreciate the support and hope this helps :)
hi many thanks for this easy going video, very good. I did not get a great view on how the unit is connected to the car. I have roof rails so is the unit supported on transverse memebers which in turn is supported on the rails. ( I saw this was a pretty recent video you made so will be grateful if you come back to me)
Yes, if I am understanding you correctly, your assumption is correct. For vehicles using its own standard roof rails that run longitudinally, you would first need to mount lateral/transverse bars onto the roof rails. Then the rooftent will mount onto those bars. Yamika bars are a popular choice. For my purposes, I got a specific roof rack that mounted onto the car's factory roof mounting points. The rooftop tent then mounts directly on any of the lateral/transverse bars. Hope this helps!

Wow 5.5k usd ? I brought one 2nd hand in nz for 1.5k nzd. It does have some issues after it was used a fair amount, mainly that the bottom black sealer sticks to the mattress supplied and looks yuck.
