Everything that goes into Chandler gear always sounds so good! Almost impossible to obtain a bad sound then my question is : among all these equipment, which was the most difficult to reproduce? Thank you very much Warren and your hosts for this exciting and inspiring visit :)
I enjoyed this very very much, thank you! I own quite some Chandler gear, and especially the TG2 is used almost daily, mainly on guitars and bass. I do have two questions. 1. it's hard to get the Germanium Tone Control nowadays, in Europe anyway. Is it discontinued and if so why? If not I'd love to get my hands on a pair... 2. What's Chandler developing right now? I had hoped the video would end with a little sneak peak ;-) Thanks & keep it up.
EMI were world leaders and developers I would say. Am I wrong folks. They are still being made by these guys. Wow factor is incredible here. Thanks men. Great new video.
One of the greatest factory tours! I've just read the article/exclusive interview with Mr. Goeke on the Japanese web magazine a couple of days ago. Salute them for their craftspersonship and passion. Not to mention their sound qualities, these outboards look like true arts!! The atmosphere there looks so lovely, too. Greetings from Japan.
GREAT! Wade & Warren. What a pair of cats enjoying their fish !!! But I cannot imagine the patience employees has with their DAILY job doing the same day after day after day….
Thank you for this episode sir, I love all my Chandler gear. Mr. Wade seems like such a genuinely humble person, and I love a lot of the gear that comes out of IOWA. Beauty!!!
Chandler is a unique voice in the audio world. Wade brought so much cool gear to consumers. I’m a big user of it since 2004. In fact I was the guy who first asked him to cascade the channels in the TG2. I have the first unit that was done that way!
What a great video. So much interesting information in it. Some history, some technology, some manufacturing, some great people - all in the service of recording great music. Thank you so much for this making this one!
Great to see products being made with such a highly level of construction and care, rare to see products made to last these days and in the long run certainly worth the money.
This is probably the best and most entertaining, interesting video, i've seen from you this year! I love factory tours in general! Keep doing these kind of vids Warren! Greetings from Denmark 🙂
I love what little Chandler I own, and it’s so cool to peer behind the curtain a bit. I often say I could pick either API or Neve, sell off the other one, and be perfectly happy, but I will always keep my TG2s and my Germanium. There’s definitely some magic in there, and the TG2s almost always show up on any guitars I record - acoustic or electric. 🤘
Great company. I had a tricky radio interference issue with the DI on my TG 2. After some back and forth, I got a phone call directly from Wade. Nothing like getting support from the designer himself and also just a wonderful person to talk to.
Very nicely done, Warren! I always enjoy your taking us to places we normally don't get to go to! Wade and Co. appear to be having fun and building some very sought after equipment. Thank you again for the walk through!
Another great video. So good to see the workings and technicalities behind Chandler gear. The knowledge and passion that Wade and his team have is evident, and his collection of EMI kit is eye opening. Not sure if I will ever go the hardware route, but hope that the old school point to point wiring and tube manufacturing will long continue.
Man thats a cool company with amazing gear. Says al hell of alot about a company, when most of the employees have been there for years and and still there. Great stuff, thanks very much
Awesome - I didn't know they were in Iowa; I didn't know they were a small/family size company; I didn't know they were so nice and passionate and all around cool. What a beautiful success story!
THANK YOU, Warren, for blurring out a few parts of the video to prevent IP copying by other actors in other countries. SO MUCH time, money, and effort went into the engineering, and re-engineering, calculations, etc of these devices. That time and effort is valuable and should be protected.
It makes me so happy to see high end audio equipment being built by actual human beings without compromising anything and of course the results speak for themselves 😊
Wade is great guy and makes awesome equipment. I bought an TG2 in early 2000's turns out I had a power supply that had a problem. Talked to him on the phone he was great and helpful. He was going send me a new power supply before I even sent the broken one back. A lady called me next day and was very nice also but had me send the power supply back before they sent me the new one. I really knew nothing about recording just knew I need a good channel strip and was going to start there. I called him again because the TG2 sounded so great listening through my head phones but when I recorded a track it did not sound the same. He explained ad/da conversion and was most help full. Great product and great company !
Abbey Road is just the gift that keeps on giving. Truly a hallmark location in the history of music. Cheers for the learning experiences made accessible here.
Love seeing you meeting the wonderful people who actually built the gear used on so many huge albums. Grass roots. I think I'll order another preamp right now
What a great video! Wade seems to be such a cool down to earth guy while being a genius audio wizard. I got the TG mic and love it, but really wanna add the Redd mic. One day for sure!
Very informative. Those of us that can only afford the plugin versions of these wonderful beasts, benefit from seeing their guts out in the open, and how they tick. Cheers for this.
Just wonderful and inspiring that someone a world away from London 20 years ago, discovered and decided he would not let these old but brilliant EMI audio designs die, Wade literally had a vision that music would always need this stuff! I would love 16 channels of end to end Chandler outboard, sigh…..
Always been proud to say that Chandler is made in a tiny town in our great state. It's so Iowa to make the highest quality of something in its class in an old shoe shop or something in a town with more pigs than people.
Wade is a very nice guy who obviously loves what he does and enjoy helping people. I live in the Dominican Republic and I once called Chandler Limited and they transferred the call to him but he was on his way out to some place and he called me back while he was driving just to explain some things about the Germanium mic pre/di and the Germ; in fact he told me that they sounded exactly the same, so if someone owns a 500 series rack/lunchbox they can get the Germ 500 and save a couple of hundred.
What a great company! Such quality and passion. Thanks yet again, Warren for being our guide to all these amazing places and people. Such appreciation for the audio world and the music it helps shapes.
So that nice lady is singlehandedly manufacturing an important part of the sound of most today's greatest hits of today... so cool, lovely company Chandler well done!
Warren that was a comforting episode and a phenomenal chill session… Positive vibes and great people…. You are looking super healthy and your spirit is so strong Warren!! Plus I am now a PLAP member and I’m practicing my tunes every morning… Take care Warren and Eric… Top tier hair you two… 🎉💪⚡️
I am lucky enough to have several Chandler pieces - TG2, Zener, Curve Bender, REDD47, TG2 Opto. If you asked me what my favorite piece was I don't know that I could answer, it's all so good. As a bass player, I love the REDD47. It's just magic. The Opto is great on vocals, bass, kick, anything you put through it. Have contacted Chandler with questions once or twice and was amazed to get email answers from Wade himself. Dude is solid, just like everything Chandler makes.
This is absolutely fantastic, a joy to see, thanks Warren! I have a REDD mic that I absolutely love... I had a brief issue with it and Wade was incredibly helpful and checked it out himself. I'd love the REDD47 pre too as well as a whole load of other Chandler gear.... maybe when bank balance permits! Seeing this only makes me appreciate Chandler gear even more. Brilliant.
34:50 Interesting you mention: I've heard/read a lot of things on how engineers in America had a heck of a time working with U47s at first because the Neumann mics were designed to work with German preamplifier designs. Would be interested to hear some talk or see a video on how impedance differences affect microphone response.
Hi there, great tour. I have the REDD 47 and was waiting to see how it’s made, 😢 unfortunately no REDD 47 in the video, why… why…. thx for you for sharing and caring!

Nice Gear...I have and love their Germanium Comp and Tonecontrol. Only Problem is that their "Blackboxes" start getting noisy all the time and are expensive to replace. Nobody copies them, but it would be better and less expensiv to be able to just replace whatever part constantly breaks inside 😪

The Germanium Tone Control was discontinued a few years ago - along with the LTD1 and LTD2 - to make room for new designs; we still service them though. As far as new products, Wade's got multiple things cooking at any given time.
I live in Iowa and never knew Chandler was made in my home state. Probably cause I have never owned any Chandler products, not because I don’t like them lol
What are some of your burning questions regarding Abbey Road Studios / Chandler Limited? Share below!
Has a 500 series stereo spreader module been considered?
Now I want to know what mics he recommends for the different mic pre impedances.
Why isn't there a stereo version of the 500 devil pre as a colour box? It is said that it is great for the mix bus.
Everything that goes into Chandler gear always sounds so good! Almost impossible to obtain a bad sound then my question is : among all these equipment, which was the most difficult to reproduce? Thank you very much Warren and your hosts for this exciting and inspiring visit :)

Surprisingly modest operation. Very refreshing

Loved this Chandler factory tour. Always great to see the actual people making this equipment and learning in-depth technical and historical details.

Amazing top 10 PLAP vid imo. So cool. Can we have a stereo 500 series ‘spreader’? Urgently?
Great video! Tehnical question: how they got the germanium transistors and diodes, since I don't think anybody makes such devices anymore.
Great video as usual. The detail and thought and work that goes into these things is mind blowing.
