What are some of your favourite records to come out of Abbey Road Studios? EDIT: THANK YOU so much to everybody for your wonderful comments. Thank you to Abbey Road Studios for their cooperation and to Paul Tingen for incredible research. We cannot wait to share with you all the other videos we have made in the 5 days we spent there!
So many to choose from. A full list might be infinite! I will go with albums recorded in my lifetime that I adore. "The Bends" Radiohead "Seldom Seen Kid Live at Abbey Road" Elbow and BBC Concert Orchestra. Abbey Road is almost the entirety of recorded music. From Stravinsky to today? I can't even!
The first time Taylor Hawkins recorded with the Foo Fighters was the Baker Street cover there. He also recorded a master class in drumming video at the studio. I was stationed in Great Briton in the 80s and I would go there just to look at Mecca !!!!
A friend of mine recorded the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road! As much as I love The Beatles, I have to say that my friend's record is the most intriguing to me!
Not recorded, but Remastered, and this might interest you Warren... Teenage Fanclub's classic Creation Records are back! “Bandwagonesque”, “Thirteen”, “Grand Prix”, “Songs From Northern Britain” and “Howdy” all remastered By Abbey Road Engineer Alex Wharton and pressed on 180g vinyl.
I recorded there many times as a session player during the 70s and 80s and it never loses its sense of magic, that sense of somewhere special to be permitted entrance to. Studio 2 has a 'vibe' that is just...well, beyond my powers of description. I'm more or less retired now, so you can imagine my sense of sheer satisfaction when recently my daughter, also a musician, recorded there for the first time.
ugh Humble brag. Well it's a good thing you've recorded there, otherwise how would you have realized how special that place is?? That's something only a cool insider would know!
It's a dream of mine to get into studio 2 someday. Just to touch the walls, walk down the stairs, and even smell the room would probably bring me to tears. To be in the same room as those four lads who would work 10-12 hour days creating masterpiece after masterpiece would be so magical. If those walls could talk.
At first, watching this I was thinking "get to The Beatles, already!", but the story-telling of Abbey Road's history drew me in. What a great documentary. Thank you!
This is the best overview of Abbey Road I have ever seen. Fantastic video Warren! I’m not a techie but appreciated all the detail you went into regarding the recording equipment and I could tell this was a labour of love for you. Keep up all the great work with all these informative videos! I can tell you they are well worth the effort for everyone watching.
Absolutely amazing documentary, Warren. Thank you for taking the time to create this! Everyone and their pet dog knows Abbey Road Studios is “rich in history,” but I had no idea just HOW rich. Thank you for showcasing the incredible history of this studio and the recording industry itself. This was wonderful to watch!
I will be taking the Step inside Abbey Road tour August 12 2023. It will be a highlight of my life to stand in the room where all that magic happened. I can’t wait to see it, feel it and smell it! Thank you Warren for this fantastic history on Abbey Road.
The tour was an amazing experience as I expected. To walk around the room and into the the reverb chamber and control room was surreal. I spoke with a young lady who works there and was answering questions about the reverb chamber. I told her “I have the plug-in for this” she smiled and said “So do I” Kevin Ryan and Brian Kehew did a fantastic job.
I was in a function band playing a lot of Beatles songs back in the the day (late 80s/early 90s) and I heard they had opened Abbey Road Studios to the public, so we had to go and do the tour. They had Studio two decked out with a lot of original Beatles instruments and recording equipment. It was spiritual being in there, like visiting a Cathedral. I could have sworn for a moment I detected the acrid scent of the Fab Four's stale cigarette smoke! All too soon the tour was over and we were outside joining the tourists, holding up traffic while trying to get a good shot of our four-piece walking across the Zebra. Happy days!!
As a retired Studio and Live Sound engineer I greatly appreciate your documentary about this historic studio complex, thank you so much for your insights, invaluable.

Incredible and well done, Warren. Abbey Road is such an important piece of musical history and needed to be documented in this manner. As always, thanks!

I found a Las Vegas Library list called "Legendary Albums Recorded at Abbey Road Studios." Freegal and Hoopla, which stream albums for free, are available through libraries all over the country. I used it for recent albums by Neil Young, Graham Nash, Yes and Silk Sonic. Nice to be able to listen to an entire album without worrying about the pay wall. (Sometimes I end up purchasing.) Hoopla and Kanopy also have music documentaries. Grace Jones, Muscle Shoals, Creem, Let There Be Drums, It Might Get Loud, Woodstock, an Echo in the Canyon, the recent Gordon Lightfoot documentary, Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, Hired Gun, Sidemen, and many of The Great Courses series about music - all available on demand for free. Here's to libraries!
Got high AF and decided to watch it. Boy, did I enjoy this ever so much! Thanks Warren, you're the best - killer documentary and narration as well. Fanastic job. This doc will be everlasting in the the halls of UA-cam.
What a great video! You touched on it in a single sentence, but I would be very interested in how the technology that was developed in the studios to make the sounds that could not be played live was adapted to well, be taken on tour. If you were to make a video on that topic, I would love to watch it.
Hi Warren. Great video as always. Very detailed explanation of the evolution of sound recording and production. An update for you; the BTR2 tape recorders were still in use at the BBC in the mid 1980s some 20 years after your 1965 date. There weren't many but they were still doing service in the World Service (then known as External Services) at that time. They were deployed alongside Leevers Rich and newest replacements, Studer A80s. I think there may have been as few as just a couple left by that time. These were possibly the last valve (apologies for American readers - tube) based tape recorders still in service in the West.
GREAT JOB of covering the "uncoverable"...Abbey Road could easily encompass many many videos with each focusing on a more specific "topic" ie "Abbey Road History in Equipment and Innovations," "Abbey Road Artists and Heritage" etc etc but you gave us just a taste of many topics...a great appetizer for what is, hopefully?, to follow thank you in any case, hope you had a great time there reliving history as well as anticipating what may still be to come be well good sir

I used it for recent albums by Neil Young, Graham Nash, Yes and Silk Sonic. Nice to be able to listen to an entire album without worrying about the pay wall. (Sometimes I end up purchasing.)
Hoopla and Kanopy also have music documentaries.
Thanks ever so much for sharing Debra, I always appreciate your insight!

Got high AF and decided to watch it. Boy, did I enjoy this ever so much! Thanks Warren, you're the best - killer documentary and narration as well. Fanastic job. This doc will be everlasting in the the halls of UA-cam.
Wow, thank you ever so much
What a great video! You touched on it in a single sentence, but I would be very interested in how the technology that was developed in the studios to make the sounds that could not be played live was adapted to well, be taken on tour. If you were to make a video on that topic, I would love to watch it.
Thanks ever so much! Food for thought
Love these videos! Thanks for taking the time to put this all together. Learned a lot.
Thanks ever so much! That means a lot
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!!
Thanks ever so much

Great work on this, Warren. The attention to the history is fantastic.
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
Thanks ever so much for sharing! Interesting information to know.
GREAT JOB of covering the "uncoverable"...Abbey Road could easily encompass many many videos with each focusing on a more specific "topic" ie "Abbey Road History in Equipment and Innovations," "Abbey Road Artists and Heritage" etc etc
but you gave us just a taste of many topics...a great appetizer for what is, hopefully?, to follow thank you in any case, hope you had a great time there reliving history as well as anticipating what may still be to come be well good sir
It took a LONG time to make this video Adrian! I'm glad you enjoyed it
What a great documentary of EMI/abbey rd studios & recording tech history. Well done Warren and team!
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
