I got into punk mid 90s when I was 15. Been looking for new punk bands to check out. I just discovered A Wilhelm Scream not long ago. Can't believe I've never heard of them. So I'm definitely Goin to do my homework and check out this list.
Yeah im always discovering bands from years ago that I thought it should have known about already. There are tons of bands to discover, I'm sure you'll like some of these on the list
This topic is perfect for me as I listen to a lot of new music and love discovering new music. It's really hard to choose a top 5 but here are some that I love and think people should check out (no order). 1. MSPAINT - Blend of hardcore, post-punk, industrial, and elements of hip hop but they use synths instead of guitars. Amazing! 2. The Linda Lindas - All girl 4 piece with members in their teens that play a mixture of punk rock, new wave, and power pop. 3. Anxious - Killer emo with influence indie rock and hardcore punk. Their debut from 2022 is phenomenal. 4. One Step Closer - Melodic hardcore and alternative rock with members of Anxious. 5. Brutus - This band might be too old for this discussion, having put out their debut in 2017 and follow up in 2019, but this band is so good. It's post-hardcore with elements of post-metal and math rock with a female singer, who is also their insanely talented drummer, that sounds like a pissed off Björk.
I appreciate you watching the video and I definitely like the conversation, but with all respect, none of the bands you mentioned would even qualify for a list like this imo. They all may have a little bit of punk influence somewhere, but none of them are punk bands. Like, maybe the Linda Linda's, but they're on tour with Green Day, so they wouldn't need to be included as this was created to hilight some smaller bands that SHOULD be on those kinds of tours. But yeah, the base of all the bands I mentioned was punk. None of them were other kinds of bands with a bit of punk, but punk bands with a bit of other stuff, maybe. Not to say those bands aren't good, a couple of them I like quite a bit. But they'd be on like a "Top 5 Alternative Bands Of The 2020's" type list. Just my old, faded 2 cents, tho, lol.
