Hopeless had a certain punk identity from the early 90s until about 2001 ish, then they kind of put some interesting curtains on the house. I will always love their early catalog of Nobodys, Dillinger Four, Selby Tigers, Fifteen, Funeral Oration, Heckle, and so many more including their sister label Sub City that had The Weakerthans on it.
I agree with this statement
Nobodys rule!!! I was living in Colorado Springs when they got some traction so it was good see a band from that city. I agree with you as well.
@@AgentBeans my old band Millhouse from San Antonio opened for the Parasites in 1994 and JJ Nobody was actually the bassist for the Parasites on that tour, he was pretty cool. Speaking of Colorado I have a good friend who is from Denver and plays in a band called Flashes Red, he also played in a few other bands named Throwaway Sunshine, Smiley Kids, My Black Cloud, Cow Catcher, Same Pain, Nixons The One
@@1thess523 thats bad ass man!!! Im gonna try to find the bands you mentioned so I can check them out for sure!!!
And to answer your question, according to his interview with finn mckenty, he's been to writing sessions with John feldman, so he has been writing for pop artists with him.
That's wild, I'd love to know who and what songs
Hopefully it works out for the artists on Fat. It seems like Epitaph would be the ones to buy them out.
@@davesleyer9393 honestly, I feel like Hopeless makes more sense, but I'd like to see them be bought by Epitaph, personally
Epitaph would make sense, but if Hopeless offers the dollars Mike wants, then Hopeless it is. You'd think that Mr. Brett would have been the first call Fatty made.
Honestly I'm not surprised. With all the big bands from the 90s (nofx, lagwagon, no use for a name, etc...) and some that are dear to me (Good Riddance, Propagandhi, Strung Out... A bunch of 2000s staples), I think the record label is long past its prime. Hopeless still had a few hardcore bands like Cruel Hand that I like, from the 2010s. And let's not forget Sum 41. Fat Wreck didn't have too many important releases since what... Late 2000s? Good stuff but Fat Wreck probably saw it coming for at least a decade now.
If the deal happens, I am oddly confident that Hopeless might treat them well. I am also sure some bands on Hopeless would be stoked to have them as labelmates.
I mean, Fat still puts out records every year that i like as much as anything from the 2000s, but that's subjective I guess. They never stopped being relevant. Days N daze, Masked Intruder, Get Dead, Bad Cop Bad Cop, Last Gang, D4, Escape From The Zoo, Lawrence Arms, Lillingtons, Mean Jeans, Teenage Bottlerocket.... I like all those bands more than the early 2000s stuff. Personally, anyways, but yeah, solid label still putting out great music
Avenged Sevenfold’s first album was very Skate Punkish. It was like a weird hybrid between skate, emo and metalcore
I dunno, it's just a metalcore album to my recollection... I need to revisit that one...
If you can get some of the guys from night birds on the show that would be awesome. Brian is a collector and knows a ton, Mike Hunchback played with Jerry's version of Misfits in between being in the band at the beginning and toward the end, and Joe was also Joey Erg of the Ergs before night birds
I imagine theres a plethera of stuff you could ask and talk to some of them about
@@BeautifulPlanet27 I just want to talk with any and everyone about this stuff
STOKED to hear you like the Falling Sickness Dysentery split!! We where friends with Falling Sickness that was signed to Hopeless. The guys from Sickness got us to do the split with them on Sub City, Hopeless records benefit Label side. Aaron Dysentery
Oh man, that's awesome, what's up man! Would you want to jump on the podcast sometime? I'd love to hear some stories and punk history from your POV! If you're interested, could you email me or dm me on IG? Regardless, thanks for watching!
Got any merch for your label? Would buy a hat to support…
Don't have hats yet, but i do have shirts and some albums on my bandcamp!
31RECORDSTX.BANDCAMP.COM
I'm going to try and get a merch store set up with stuff for the label and channel in the next week or so
Hopeless started as a pop and skate punk label on the 90's
That's what I thought....
So is hopeless gonna release NOFX last 2 albums ? NOFX a-z & everyone else ?
I have no idea, but I doubt it
Me too
I was always under the impression that the Bands on Fat were Mikes personal friends, or bands that he liked. I know he doesn’t have them signed to these multiple album deals (like a typical indie label), so outside of the name, I’m not sure what they’re buying exactly? Is he selling the whole back catalog, & masters? Everything is free online… Remember he had Honest Don’s with Teen Idols, Dance Hall Crashers, & MADD Caddies? I actually liked more of those bands than the ones on Fat. Karina from the DHC is the sexiest girl ever, I still see her playing keyboards with NOFX. Shes gotta be pushing 50, but she’s still Beautiful 💟
@@mattsheezy5469 i dunno but as soon as I hear more, I will report!
I remember hearing about the whole "one album at a time" with Mike
Mama tried! Yeah!!! Went to a many of Mama Tried shows back in the day, stoked for them!
Really glad you’re doing Before Dawn, looking forward to that.
I just got the songs a few days ago and man they're good!
Your reaction to tx2 was hilarious! Recently, I saw them with ice nine kills, and in this moment
You couldn't pay me to watch that guy play, lol, dude is THE WORST
Ohhh Mike, I thought it was your job to keep punk rock elite!!!!!😢
He's retiring, lol
Whoever buys I hope has the budget and mind to include Houston on tours!!
FACTS! I missed something many shows growing up here bc bands just didn't travel, lol
I cant imagine that this is gonna flip very fast. This seems like a process that may take a minute. I know Hopeless will prob rake in some reissue money for sure.
It may be a surprise to you but Mike would have put this in place months or years ago.
I dunno about that, maybe
Happy your label is getting traction brother
Thanks Derek, I have some HEATERS on the way!
Fat wreck chords is worth millions and millions!
I dunno about that
Maybe as it stands now, solo.with its legacy amd such. But if someone else buys it, that original legacy kinda gets kneecapped it's prob worth millions tho
I LIKED HOPELESS. DEFINATELY LOVED ME SOME AAA
Yeah, they used to be a lot better, imo
His whole adult life has been a midlife crisis
Mine too...
Yellowcard, Sum 41, Leftöver Crack.... One of these things is not like the other. ....
Boy do i hate Yellowcard... so bad
Mike just might want to give it all up except the museum and if he can get a ton of cash from Hopeless 🤷♂️
I mean, at a certain point, you may as well move on to something a little less stressful, right?
FALLING SICKNESS WS GRT
Absolutely man, chaotic hardcore ska-punk!
WOAH! i figured with NOFX's last show last weekend that Mike would dedicate MORE time to FAT Wreck.....kinda bumming news.
Yeah I was kind of thinking the same thing. But at a certain point, you've done it all and you're getting older... time to move on
@@thepunkrockreview great point...thanks for your work!!!!
Joe King says he hasn’t gotten a dime from Hopeless for the Punk Rock Confidential album in decades, and that’s one of their best selling albums. I don’t see this being great for the bands involved
Yeah man, that's messed up... I should reach out to Joe and have him back on to talk about this....
I want to say Hopeless partnered with some major a few years back.
Looking at their roster, that doesn't surprise me. I'm just so shocked by this news
100% not just music, but every sector of everything is being boiled down, bought up and consolidated by everything
wait, what...no way. it's maybe better to cancel the label or give it to one who care about Independent music !
Yeah I was a little surprised by this news, as well
Aren’t all bands on fat signed to just one record at a time?
I think most are 1 or 2 record deals, yes. That would lead me to believe it's likely a back catalog and name purchase more than anything
Mike doesn't really give a F. Hes done.hes about to turn (even more)weirdo rich guy from here to the end.
🙄
Beagle Reagle or Reagle Beagle? There was a Ramonescore band called Reagle Beagle years ago
Did I say it backwards? Yes, Regal Beagle the Ramonescore band
@@thepunkrockreview nice 👊
Hellcat is owned by epitaph. It’s just an imprint
@@joshlegere well, sure, sort of
To stop with NOFX its a hard decisión butall the good job with Fat? WoW is got to be hard. From the longest line NOFX to Lagwagon, propagandi, sick of It all,Dickies, good riddance and so many bands in my Life...Fatty you got issues like me.Get bussy please
Isn't Fat like 10x "bigger" than Hopeless?
Thats what i thought, too. But if you compare the labels release for release, i think Hopeless wins that contest...
Is this going to be the end of skate punk?
Never! It'll just go deeper underground, where it belongs!!! Hopefully it'll help some bands, but I'm skeptical, tbh
Check out Badd Music!!
Tell me why
@@thepunkrockreview If you’re into bands like Rancid, Bad Religion, Bouncing Souls, Swingin Utters or Social Distortion, you’ll definitely want to check them out. They bring that classic punk rock sound with a fresh, modern twist, keeping the spirit of those bands alive, but they’re doing it in their own authentic way.
Sounds fake. No way they can afford it.
Ok. Supposed to be public this Thursday. Do you know the records that have come out on Hopeless???
