Nice! Excited about those cc capabilities! The ramps are a great idea, and it looks like the interface is much more responsive than the others out there. This is a big deal cause it’s really a drag when it’s sluggish and smooshy. The midi library thing looks really interesting too. I can see you’ve really hit on some important often overlooked areas. I can’t wait to try it out.
Hi Paul, at first I hesitated since I already owned a similar tool (I'm sure you know what I'm talking about). But after watching your videos I came more and more to the conclusion that Helium will fit better to my workflow and bought it yesterday. I was impressed how quick I could get familiar with this tool. I think you managed to design a UI which keeps a good balance between ease of use and high flexibility. I also use your products MIDIMixer and Multi-Track and they all fit perfectly together. Congratulations!

Love using Helium with MIDI files. Something that would be incredibly useful (for me at least) would be to have a randomizer for files in the media bay that is mappable. Or even just a random dice on the UI for those files. Much easier to get into Rick Rubin like zones closing eyes and auditioning random files.
I got the atom 2 upgrade thinking it would be perfect for my midi sequencing needs.unfortunately I’m still struggling to get it to do what I need,possibly my skills at fault but it’s just not doing it for me.The features in Helium and the workflow simplicity look to be exactly what I’m looking for.Looking forward to this dropping and adding it to my collection of 4 pockets apps.Paul continues to be a great developer 👍👍
Looks great, definitely have a need for this even with Atom. You keep tackling some great needs. You should beat everyone to the punch and get an auv3 audio clip launcher out, iOS is severely lacking this
ALL existing features and workflow are great, as I already have a huge midi library BUT I would like [1] midi file or clip audition / preview before loading, [2] live midi recording onto a selected track so if I am using say ChordBud 2, or Midi Strummer, I can route and record onto a midi track. [3] MPE midi recording say from Velocity KB
I was thinking it would be cool if this could mangle the MIDI data but keep it in key and scale. Lets say you import a midi file and press a mangle button ant you will have the notes mixed around also there should be a multi track mangle feature. With one press of a button it will rearrange the song instantly
Interesting idea, although it wold need some idea of song structure in order to do it properly as it would screw up if you mangled over chord change boundaries. I do plan on adding randomness and stuff so I will try messing with this idea and see if it leads me anywhere good!!

Hi Paul, you are a genious!!! You are filling all the gaps and christmas lists of any IOS geek musician!! well done. Wha is the advantage of hellium over Digikeys?, You have all the lego pieces to build up the perfect DAW/groovebox, why not do that whit a complete workflow, from composing to add instruments (via Chamaleon) / Drumstix, and nice sampler/ audio traks from Multitrack record all the way down to your magnificent suit of mix and mastering fx ever seen, you have the dream team in your hands , just put the pieces together please!!!!!!. Until them please put together some nice bundles like drum stix+drum surgeon+digikeys+visual consoles+multitrack OMG....
Thanks for the great comment. I did think of adding a sound source like Chameleon as it such low CPU usage compared to other synth engines. The next version will add something I think everyone will benefit from (let the guessing begin), and should take Helium to the next level.

I've already added a scales option which lables the piano role (but doesn't restrict input because of drag and drop). This version will be released later this week.

You can make a selection on the ruler to specify a loop then save that off into your clip libarary. I will be adding Ghost Track options to the next version.
Hi Paul! Very excited to see this! Forgive me if I ask stuff in advance since I am barely starting to watch your videos today... hadn’t heard about this new AU until today! I am liking a lot the differences between this and Atom, amongst other things (that ruler is nice man thanks!), but my biggest “issue” with Atom 2 is its inability to record MPE midi so... I have one big big question: Can Helium record MPE midi? That is, a single midi “track”/“lane” with 16 midi channels? I use a lot of MPE instruments and still need a doable way to record their midi inside of AUM. LK and ATOM both force you to choose a midi channel, it would be great if we could simply “record midi as is” (multiple channels) on a single Helium instance. He**, if you confirm that I’ll probably buy it immediately. Otherwise, I’m sure I’ll end up checking it out sooner rather than later, but MPE recording really would separate it from its competition. I wouldn’t mind a world where my setup includes both atom and helium 👍🏼
Right now it doesn't record MPE, it is just one channel per track. I am however going to look into adding this in a future update, so if you rely on this feature I would hold off for now.

I love the remote looping function and I’m thinking it will play very nicely with Step Poly ARP’s program change for pattern change functionality... after all it seems once I setup up the zones I just need to send midi notes to Helium that correspond to the keys you mention on this intro right? That should trigger a change I believe. That alone is worth the plug-in to me ;). However, given the clear overlapping territory in between this, Atom 2 and LK, I have to say that being the only one to support MPE would probably mean insta-buy to a lot of us even if we already own the other two or one of them at least. Hopefully you’ll be able to in the future! Essentially what we’d need is being able to use one of the 4 midi output busses running in parallel for all 16 channels; so if it can record on all 16 at the same time and pass them through instead of casting them to a specific channel, that’s pretty much all we need 🙏🏻. Helium looks 9.5/10 ;) amazing. If it were iPhone compatible and MPE it would be a perfect 10 hehe, and I’m obviously only being petty because pretty much ANYTHING can be better than it already is... ;) cheers for the wonderful product I’ll definitely be purchasing ASAP regardless of MPE compatibility. As a last and general recommendation, would you consider adding rotary knob functionality as an option? I hate knob sliders so if this were an option on all of your apps I would be tremendously grateful to you, I have a really hard time dialing values with the current knobs. The UI look is pretty nice as always, so cheers for that and also the cohesiveness in-between them.

The problem with iPhone is that lack of physical space. It was kinda ok on the larger models, but useless on the smaller ones. Sadly I can't tackle those larger models alone, so I choose not support them for now.
A crazy request the ability to transpose a sequence up and down the keyboard something like a midi phrase player. (transposing using one note up and down)
If you turn on MIDI chord recognition and play in chords up and down the keyboard it will transpose the chords or find the nearest inversion of the same chord!!

It's looking great.. I appreciate the fact its not finished yet but will there be a 16 track overview where i can shuffle things around? maybe insert 8 bars somewhere to all tracks etc? A bit like Cubase where midi is in blocks for ease of arranging?
Looks very interesting, Paul! A couple of questions. 1) you said you can have 16 tracks per instance but am I right in thinking you can only output to 4 synths? So if I wanted 16 instruments I'd need 4 instances of Helium to play them all? 2) can you play in all the notes via a midi keyboard (I'm assuming yes) rather than just working with loops? I can see this being really useful to sequence Audiokit apps that generally don't play well within Cubasis or Nano2. Then get the audio recorded from AUM and imported into Cubasis.
Using AUM you have always been able to route 16 channels of MIDI to 16 synths using only 1 MIDI port. I've just thrown in some extra ones for ease of use. The only reason I didn't add more is because it gets a bit cumbersone having so many MIDI ports in the routing dialog, and in my eyes it is not neccesary. I could expand this though if enough people need it.
Paul, I love Helium, but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to export the MIDI songs out of Helium into, say AudioShare. I have an iPad, so I am unable to drag and drop the MIDI file out of Helium and deposit it elsewhere. Any other solution to this issue I am not aware of?
As you know the Media Bay has 3 tabs (clips, MIDI songs and sessions). You need to select the MIDI Songs tab and press the Export MIDI Song button. Once saved you can drag and drop from here into the files app. Anything saved under the 'Songs' tab is a FULL song and not just a short clip.

Paul i have a question I like to record aftertouch data wile I’m playing My midi keyboard(ReMOTE 37 SL)sends data on Animoog Z I can heat the sound change but On the track the data is not recorded Is it possible to record data just like PB,Modulation,Velocity wile playing ???? Any chance of an AUV3 clock display for showing midi clock from devices like original keystep, beatstep etc that don’t have their own tempo display. You could maybe add it to nurack or something, it would make syncing hardware a lot easier. Thanks.

Can I connect a midi controller and live play? I am looking for something that can record midi, play it back, and export midi files - for getting ideas out of my head and into a desktop daw later using the ipad on the go.
Easy scale lock? Show only notes in a scale? Chord drawing ?( For instance I choose triad and when I draw, it insert a triad instead of just a note ), octave up and down selections? Didn’t try it yet. perhaps some of these features are already available.
There is a scale guide coming in the next version (not so much a lock because it interferes with drag and drop). I'm looking into the octave up/down option as it was requested a few times.

No, but you can add a ghosted track. Long press the Track select button and you can choose a ghost track. This is useful for seeing what is happening on other tracks.
I want the ability to make patterns intro, verse chorus etc and place them at will into a song memory without having to do it live by remote. And also the ability to flip and reverse midi. In the last 10 days I have bought 2 hardware sequencers from eBay and intend to have more, but in terms of iOS this is a game changer. But please allow me patterns and a song memory, it’s how I’m used to working with my old alesis hardware from the 80s. Also how much is this going to set me back I was on my way to Dougs shop to treat myself to a cool beans t-shirt but I think I need this extraordinary app more.
Is there any way to constrain notes placed, painted or played into the sequencer to a particular scale or mode? (For me, I most need the ability to play in on a wireless MIDI keyboard, ignoring or shifting notes outside a particular mode.) Thanks for all your brilliant apps!
No, there is currently no way to do this. You can select a scale which highlights the keys on the pianoroll, but it won't restrict input. I decided against this because some musical styles like jazz quite often use passing notes that are not in a specific scale. I may add this as an option in a future update.

It would eliminate my need for something like scalar and provide the kind of welcome functionality I have in my komplete kontrol keyboard when not using it on a computer And it's great for people without a strong music theory backgrounds, even as a tool for learning. In native instrument products it's often implemented with a couple of different options, one where it ignores notes from outside the scale and one where it transposes notes out of the scale to the next closest note.
Yes you can, although depending on whether they originate from the clips or songs library depends on how they load. Clips can be added to a song, while a song is loaded as a fresh entity.
Helium is a MIDI editor, not a sound source. It allows you to generate MIDI to drive other instruments taking the place of say a human player. Helium itself is a plugin that needs to be loaded under an app like AUM, and then its output fed to other instruments via routing.
Fantastic... I was immediately reminded of Gadget’s sequencer, which I’ve gotten very familiar with; it’s gonna be great to have something like that to use in AUM. One question/suggestion: is there a way to enter a rest when you’re entering notes in step time? If not, that would be useful, to me, anyway... thanks for a great new app and a very good tutorial!
Currently you have to physically tap the ruler to move the cursor to a new position. Any suggestions on how I could implement a rest using an external keyboard? I'm willing to implement any sensible suggestions.

I have 3 tracks set up in Helium, going to 3 different AUM channels, and when I change tracks in helium and tap the keyboard, I only hear track 1. Am I missing something?

Also what am I missing….I am trying to run DigiKeys inside Auria pro..To drive Sunrizer for example….I do host sync and then uncheck the local button…how do I then get a sound..? Do I load another plug in after DigiKeys or route it to another track or something?? Thanks in advance
@@grahamwilson2164 I've only ever used DigiKeys within AUM and Cubasis 3 to control other apps via MIDI. Normally DigiKeys uses internal audio sources and not MIDI, but if the host app allows MIDI routing which AUM does (and the latest Cubasis 3 just added it) then it is possible. I'm just not an Auria user so I can't tell you if it would work using this as a host. In order t oenable MIDI Out for an instrument you need to go into the fx/out settings and turn on MIDI Out and turn off Local Synth.
I'm not sure to be honest. I don't actually own Drambo so unable to check. It was written for AUM but if the host is capable of mapping the outputs from Helium it should in theory work.
Yes, its as high resolution as it can go. I think maybe you are referring to the knob images and such in DigiStix which I use at a default resolution to suite those lower resolution devices. But the interface here is completely re-designed.
Hi Paul, Request for a feature I desperately need. Is it possible to add "input transpose" option (and expose it in AUM) similar to Rozetta Scaler (shown in this video) - ua-cam.com/video/TEGSULtqIp0/v-deo.html I want to transpose the SAME pattern I have created by 'x' semitones using this input transpose option (via cc/pgm change) to play some arrangement (left hand) along with a melody (right hand).
As long as its just a streight transpose of notes and not forcing to different keys as in your eample then yes it is possible. I will look into it and ensure its on my list.

@@EnriquePage91 Thanks for the feedback Enrique, I will definately bare your suggestions in mind, and once I get the fundamentals over I will definately look at making it MPE compatible. The problem with iPhone is that lack of physical space. It was kinda ok on the larger models, but useless on the smaller ones. Sadly I can't tackle those larger models alone, so I choose not support them for now.
A crazy request the ability to transpose a sequence up and down the keyboard something like a midi phrase player. (transposing using one note up and down)
If you turn on MIDI chord recognition and play in chords up and down the keyboard it will transpose the chords or find the nearest inversion of the same chord!!

It's looking great.. I appreciate the fact its not finished yet but will there be a 16 track overview where i can shuffle things around? maybe insert 8 bars somewhere to all tracks etc? A bit like Cubase where midi is in blocks for ease of arranging?

Yes, there is randomize function within DigiStix that allows you to choose selective pads.

A couple of questions.
1) you said you can have 16 tracks per instance but am I right in thinking you can only output to 4 synths? So if I wanted 16 instruments I'd need 4 instances of Helium to play them all?
2) can you play in all the notes via a midi keyboard (I'm assuming yes) rather than just working with loops?
I can see this being really useful to sequence Audiokit apps that generally don't play well within Cubasis or Nano2. Then get the audio recorded from AUM and imported into Cubasis.
Using AUM you have always been able to route 16 channels of MIDI to 16 synths using only 1 MIDI port. I've just thrown in some extra ones for ease of use. The only reason I didn't add more is because it gets a bit cumbersone having so many MIDI ports in the routing dialog, and in my eyes it is not neccesary. I could expand this though if enough people need it.

Paul, I love Helium, but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to export the MIDI songs out of Helium into, say AudioShare. I have an iPad, so I am unable to drag and drop the MIDI file out of Helium and deposit it elsewhere. Any other solution to this issue I am not aware of?
As you know the Media Bay has 3 tabs (clips, MIDI songs and sessions). You need to select the MIDI Songs tab and press the Export MIDI Song button. Once saved you can drag and drop from here into the files app. Anything saved under the 'Songs' tab is a FULL song and not just a short clip.

Any chance of an AUV3 clock display for showing midi clock from devices like original keystep, beatstep etc that don’t have their own tempo display. You could maybe add it to nurack or something, it would make syncing hardware a lot easier. Thanks.

Can I connect a midi controller and live play? I am looking for something that can record midi, play it back, and export midi files - for getting ideas out of my head and into a desktop daw later using the ipad on the go.
Yes, you should be able to do that no worries.
Easy scale lock? Show only notes in a scale? Chord drawing ?( For instance I choose triad and when I draw, it insert a triad instead of just a note ), octave up and down selections? Didn’t try it yet. perhaps some of these features are already available.
There is a scale guide coming in the next version (not so much a lock because it interferes with drag and drop). I'm looking into the octave up/down option as it was requested a few times.

No, but you can add a ghosted track. Long press the Track select button and you can choose a ghost track. This is useful for seeing what is happening on other tracks.

I want the ability to make patterns intro, verse chorus etc and place them at will into a song memory without having to do it live by remote. And also the ability to flip and reverse midi. In the last 10 days I have bought 2 hardware sequencers from eBay and intend to have more, but in terms of iOS this is a game changer. But please allow me patterns and a song memory, it’s how I’m used to working with my old alesis hardware from the 80s. Also how much is this going to set me back I was on my way to Dougs shop to treat myself to a cool beans t-shirt but I think I need this extraordinary app more.

Is there any way to constrain notes placed, painted or played into the sequencer to a particular scale or mode?

No, there is currently no way to do this. You can select a scale which highlights the keys on the pianoroll, but it won't restrict input. I decided against this because some musical styles like jazz quite often use passing notes that are not in a specific scale. I may add this as an option in a future update.

It would eliminate my need for something like scalar and provide the kind of welcome functionality I have in my komplete kontrol keyboard when not using it on a computer And it's great for people without a strong music theory backgrounds, even as a tool for learning.
In native instrument products it's often implemented with a couple of different options, one where it ignores notes from outside the scale and one where it transposes notes out of the scale to the next closest note.

Yes you can, although depending on whether they originate from the clips or songs library depends on how they load. Clips can be added to a song, while a song is loaded as a fresh entity.

Helium is a MIDI editor, not a sound source. It allows you to generate MIDI to drive other instruments taking the place of say a human player. Helium itself is a plugin that needs to be loaded under an app like AUM, and then its output fed to other instruments via routing.

Fantastic... I was immediately reminded of Gadget’s sequencer, which I’ve gotten very familiar with; it’s gonna be great to have something like that to use in AUM. One question/suggestion: is there a way to enter a rest when you’re entering notes in step time? If not, that would be useful, to me, anyway... thanks for a great new app and a very good tutorial!
Currently you have to physically tap the ruler to move the cursor to a new position. Any suggestions on how I could implement a rest using an external keyboard? I'm willing to implement any sensible suggestions.

@@PaultheMusicMan Apologies for constant additions, this will be all, promise: I’m entering notes in loop mode, just using the AUM on screen keyboard. I have 3 tracks set up in Helium, going to 3 different AUM channels, and when I change tracks in helium and tap the keyboard, I only hear track 1. Am I missing something?

As long as you are running on an iPad then you can drag and drop directly from the iOS native Files app.

Also what am I missing….I am trying to run DigiKeys inside Auria pro..To drive Sunrizer for example….I do host sync and then uncheck the local button…how do I then get a sound..? Do I load another plug in after DigiKeys or route it to another track or something?? Thanks in advance
@@grahamwilson2164 I've only ever used DigiKeys within AUM and Cubasis 3 to control other apps via MIDI. Normally DigiKeys uses internal audio sources and not MIDI, but if the host app allows MIDI routing which AUM does (and the latest Cubasis 3 just added it) then it is possible. I'm just not an Auria user so I can't tell you if it would work using this as a host. In order t oenable MIDI Out for an instrument you need to go into the fx/out settings and turn on MIDI Out and turn off Local Synth.

I'm not sure to be honest. I don't actually own Drambo so unable to check. It was written for AUM but if the host is capable of mapping the outputs from Helium it should in theory work.
Can you cue songs so that another starts when one finishes?
Sounds like you need a media player rather than a launcher or editor. It's an interesting idea so I will add it to my list of possible additions.

Yes, its as high resolution as it can go. I think maybe you are referring to the knob images and such in DigiStix which I use at a default resolution to suite those lower resolution devices. But the interface here is completely re-designed.

I want to transpose the SAME pattern I have created by 'x' semitones using this input transpose option (via cc/pgm change) to play some arrangement (left hand) along with a melody (right hand).
As long as its just a streight transpose of notes and not forcing to different keys as in your eample then yes it is possible. I will look into it and ensure its on my list.
