  • According to Rockstar Games, GTA V focuses on the pursuit of the "almighty dollar"... except, it isn't very almighty in GTA V at all. Let's cover one of the most disappointing aspects of GTA V on its 10th anniversary!

    There are three protagonists in the game. But most of the time their stories are intertwined because of Michael. Michael is the main protagonist in the game while others are just supporting ones. Most missions revolve about his stupid decisions and favours for the FIB.

    You know what's really embarrassing? Most if not *all* of these problems are fixed in GTA Online, in that game getting money is really difficult but there's so much things to spend on. There's a lot of Properties, Businesses, Vehicles, Heists and even with some of them being very repetitive they are quite fun and much better than those in GTA V.
    Which i even ask myself, why some of these features are not available in Single Player? Why can't i even buy some cars and properties present in Online like the apartments? Why wasn't the casino available since the beginning?
    I think this game has a really good and amazing story but gameplay wise it's missing a lot good and fun things.

      You've nailed it. Pretty much GTA Online is how the GTA 5 story mode should of been in terms of side content. Rockstar truly have no excuses if the GTA 6 story mode also has nothing to do once the main story has been finished.

      I 100% agree with you about the vehicle customization
      after customizing vehicles in V and SA I store them in the garage and almost never use them again because I'm scared of using them. the saints row games do the vehicle storage right, but then again it wouldn't suit gta.

    i always thought money in gta games in general is useless, being able to plan big missions like heists and being able to improve them by buying unmarked weapons and or disposable tools would be an insanely good improvement, maybe even better crews, paying off the police, all of that would probably be something doable by rockstar if they really wanted to. but they hasnt done anything similar even on GTA:Online, which is imo weird considering it might boost shark card sales.

    • @DeadYorick

      I think money was at it's peak in terms of usefulness in GTA Vice City. Mainly because game progression required buying properties which would be so expensive you'd need to do a lot of missions to save up. Then followed up by either GTA San Andreas or Vice City Stories. San Andreas because it still had properties but they were mostly safehouses, however there was a lot of them. And Vice City Stories due to the gang warfare system. Outside of that I think money had the most uselessness in GTA4 overall since virtually all Niko could buy was just ammunition for guns.

  • @rollercoasterman8114
    @rollercoasterman8114 9 місяців тому +4

    I'd say money is even more useless in RDR2, another game where the main story revolves around getting money, i've played the game twice now and both times i've been left with thousands of dollars that are almost impossible to spend and one part that is really annoying is that no matter how much money you donate to camp Dutch will still be banging on about needing more money, it would be nice if events played out differently depending on how much money there is in camp funds.
    I love the game but i think some aspects could be a lot better.

  • @trainee5471
    @trainee5471 5 місяців тому

    In similar vein, what annoyed me in GTA IV is that Niko undertakes all those dangerous missions because he allegedly needs money - something he is vocal about in mission intro cutscenes, but neither the plot nor gameplay put nearly enough pressure on Niko to make you feel like he actually needs it. The player has nothing to spend his money on besides guns, and Roman is basically set for life once he collects insurance (though it is all but certain that he'll squander it all), so why does Niko still need to rob a bank? Or chase the diamonds?
    With him constantly expressing his disdain towards this criminl way of life and how much he wants to escape it, it is either that he is even more of a hypocrite than he'd normally be, or the game's writing is bad at least in this regard.

    As tedious as GTA Online can get sometimes with how grindy it can be, at the same time it nailed what a GTA game should really be imo. With all the different businesses to make money and all the ways you can spend your money like on all different cars to customise and actually own, all the different apartments, items added like the jetpack and even the oppressor would of been perfect for the story mode. If we had a GTA single player experience that added everything that is in GTA Online it would be amazing.
    Rockstar truly have no excuses for the GTA 6 story mode and if it has weak side content just like GTA 5 did after the main story was finished well it's going to be massively disappointing for me.

    As someone who just did a another playthrough of GTA V I can say that money is not completely useless.
    The Weapons aren't free so without money I wouldnt be able to go through the story with everyone having Miniguns or Railguns. lol
    In all seriousness though, you're right about a lot of things being useless. I never bothered to upgrade any of my cars (except story related) because I'd just lose the vehicle after a mission or two. They should've made it so you could tag a vehicle as a personal vehicle so it could respawn later.
    Not much can be done with the weapons unless they just outright make a lot of them shitty because basically every weapon in each type can kill someone in a couple of shots, and unless I'm mistaken headshots are always one-hit kill. A lot of the late-game weapons are just for the fantasy of "hey look I'm using _this_ weapon!" or "I like the way it looks/sounds"
    Clothes are a mixed bag ranging from awful to awesome, but it really was annoying that the characters will automatically change outfits for/after certain missions. It wasn't always so you can go through a decent amount of the story without having to manually change clothes but it does happen with Ending C. Michael & Trevor will always wear the same outfits for the mission, theyll even change back to what you had when quitting. Only Franklyn keeps his clothes which was upsetting because I really wanted to end the story with everyone in specific outfits.
    Because I wasnt going for 100% I didnt bother with a lot of the side activities or the businesses, the story is really handholdy when it comes to you having everything you need for a mission. The AI gets harder over time but unless you're wasting your money & ammo on purpose, you will never run into the circumstance of not being able to complete the story. Other than being terrible at the gameplay of course.
    It'll be interesting to see if GTA VI addresses these things.

    Some say GTA5 has the best economy because of the stock exchange thing, no it's just basic passive income. Money is not canon, your protagonists can have billions but this doesn't affect them later on like Trevor generally and Franklin in GTA Online. I think it's been carried over from GTA4 where for how it's good the money is intentionally a side thing because writing is focused on more interesting aspects. GTA VC is the one with the best money purpose, sure today it's simple but it's well done.

    honestly this is the weirdest complaint I heard about this game because every prior GTA is much worse when it comes to the economy, no rockstar open world has a well balanced economy, and the missions in all of their open world games are so scripted that whatever you pick up from the open world (be it cars, gear or weapons) have little to no impact on missions

    • @fredster594
      @fredster594 9 місяців тому +1

      Honestly, I think GTA VC (if you didn't do Cone Crazy) was pretty well balanced with its economy. You earn just the right amount of money in every mission in that game, and things like guns and business are fairly priced for the most part.

    • @fredster594
      @fredster594 9 місяців тому +2

      @@kovach00 Yeah the HD games have huge problems when it came to the economy.
      GTA IV had almost nothing to spend your money on and the amount of money you earn in the game makes no sense narratively. The whole game is centered around the struggles that immigrants faces through when they enter the land of opportunity and one of those problems is financials and the 2008 economy. Yet very shortly on in the game, Niko is just rolling in cash and can pretty much pay off all of Roman's debt with no problems. And you'd think after the bank heist, you know the climax of the game that Niko would no longer have any problems with finances but NOPE, he goes back to working with people he hates for, to help with his "financial struggles" and to find Darko Brevic even though the ULP has already got that covered. It's almost like the bank heist never happened.
      RDR1's economy was just terrible. There were barely anything to spend your money on in the game and the things you do buy are permanent perks. I will give the game some credit though, some of the more expensive items like in the gunshops are pretty fairly priced, although you wouldn't really need it considering the gang hideouts already give you a ton of overpowered guns for free.
      This video explains the problems with GTA V's economy so I don't need to cover that.
      RDR2's economy balancing is actually pretty good... at the beginning of the game.
      After you've completed a bunch of main story missions at the second half of chapter 2 and found a bunch of gold bars, you'll be rolling in cash and never need to worry sbout spending money in the game ever again. Plus you don't really need to find gold bars or ever do any side missions as the Valentine bank heist in chapter 3 pretty much gives you all the money that you need and you're all set for after that mission.

      @@fredster594this is a huge issue that we've all become numb to due to rockstar's safe approach to video game design for over 15 years up to this point, it could improve in GTA 6 but I don't expect it cuz they had so many chances to improve on it and they didn't

    • @fredster594
      @fredster594 9 місяців тому +2

      @@kovach00 Rockstar's game design is so strange. On the one hand, barely any other open world video game or franchise can give you that psychological emotion and vibe that a Rockstar game has, there's just SOMETHING about their games that just feels better compared to every other open world video game and it's hard to explain why.
      On the other hand, when looking at their design from a more objective point of view, their design and video game mechanics are extremely barebones and lacking in depth, despite how advanced their games are from a technological standpoint. And a big problem with their games since GTA 4 is how little they've actually improved in terms of design, while each installment in their open world catalogue got more immersive, realistic and more technologically advanced, their actual game mechanics and systems have not improved much at all since GTA 4.
      I mean just look at the 6th gen era of Rockstar, just look at how much better each installment was in the 3D trilogy and how much they learned and improved from their mistakes. They even incorporated what they've learned from San Andreas when making Liberty City and Vice City Stories. When developing Bully, they finally found a suitable and non clunky control scheme for their game because they LEARNED from their past games' shortcomings.

    Purchased and customised non-personal vehicles are not lost for good when you ditch them, they just get impounded. It's a little hard to take a video like this seriously when it seems like you've failed to notice basic mechanics for an entire decade.
    Also, were most or even many people disappointed by the heists? Is this something you have any proof of, even anecdotally?

    • @TJGM
      @TJGM  9 місяців тому +8

      You mean the impound which doesn't work? At 04:00 I show an example of me losing a vehicle after taking it to do a mission. I checked the impound after I seen it despawned, and it still wasn't there. I've tested this with vehicles purchased from websites too, they also didn't work. It's very buggy.
      And just to reconfirm it, I tested again after reading your comment, and my despawned vehicles still aren't in the impound. I read the GTA Wiki on how the impound works, it says the vehicle needs to be customised at Los Santos Customs or purchased online. I customised a vehicle, stored it in both types of garages (safe house garage and purchased garage), tested, and they both weren't at the impound after despawning during a mission.
      Even if this feature did work, it's still very poorly thought out and doesn't add much value to customising vehicles. It's a little hard to take your comment seriously when you've failed to test these broken mechanics for an entire decade 🤷‍♂
      And I've talked to plenty of people who were disappointed with the heists in V. How few of them there was, how scripted they are, how little options they give you, the awful crew mechanic which provides you no information on what their "skills" even mean, how 2 of the heists don't even pay you... Besides, when did I say many people were disappointed by heists? I said they were disappointing, you know, in my own video...?
