  • @kesmarn
    @kesmarn 5 місяців тому +7

    I learned so much from this video, Tessie!
    For starters, I discovered what you can do with the honey that has the piece of honeycomb submerged in the honey. I never knew! (I mean I knew that you could eat the honey, of course, but the comb? I was clueless!)
    My Mom used to use linseed oil to polish furniture, too -- as well as paneling and almost anything else that involved wood that wasn't painted, but I didn't know that it came from flax seed oil.
    Speaking of flax seed, forgive me for going way, way back in history here, but one of the instructors in our nursing program was "no spring chicken," and she had been trained back in the days before antibiotics were commonly used. Doctors used to order something called a "flax seed poultice" to try to treat conditions like pneumonia back then. The nurse would make a very warm liquid combining water and flax seed and then soak a fairly heavy cloth in it. With the patient lying flat, face down in bed, that cloth would be wrung out, opened up and spread over the patient's back until it cooled down. Rinse and repeat. I don't have any statistics on cure rates with that treatment, but (as long as the poultice wasn't too hot) I can't see how it would do any harm!
    Many blessings to you and Chevy Man as you find your $30 bargains each week during this freezing January!

    Interesting ..making linseed oil. My GrandFather, (born in 1880) owned a stable for many years. He added linseed oil to horse feed, it helped them keep a shiny coat. He also used it for a massage oil on strained legs, muscles for horses. Not exactly sure it was good for the horse, but he always claimed it did.

    lin/flax seed oil is the cod-liver oil of the continents. Meaning it is VERY healthy! Wars were fought over it in history! Of course it has to be somewhat fresh. My 87 year old mother thrieves on it (she has a childhood trauma / overindulgence of cod-liver oil)

    I just wanted to say, I've seen you plug up your stove to get the pilot light to come on, you do not necessarily have to do that. Put a match to the pilot light and it will burn. Mine was ticking so loud I couldn't stand it on or plugged up. And a repair guy told me it didn't have to be plugged up. Just light a match for the pilot light.

    Hi, Tessie. I was amazed at how much you were able to get with $30; those yogurts alone were a tremendous deal. Thank you for the beeswax and linseed oil tutorial; I found it fascinating and am saving this for future reference. The polish worked so well, and it seemed like a little bit went a long way. Hope you have a wonderful evening! 😊

    That Siggis youghrt is a special product!
    We buy it for $4-7 each!
    It's called Skyr
    It's very high in protein and real thick. Simply wonderful. It's made with " extra milk and is very heavy/filling in a good way, mafe the mistake of eating a big bowl and OMG... Belly hurts to full 🤣
    There's another one called Icelandic tradition's I think... Something like that, it's also a Skyr.

    You didn't have to waste your honey to get the beeswax...you crush your honey cimb and put the mash in a colander lined with cheesecloth...allow the honey to drain overnight then you use the water to boil the wax and extract it from the sticky residue...then of course you put your honey in a jar and enjoy. I'm certain Laura Ingalls Wilder would not have wasted her very precious honey.

      Thank you so much for your reply this is rendering beeswax from a honeycomb this is generally the progress that was used by homesteaders in the 18 and 1900s here is just a reference of most of the links you will find online about itmontanahomesteader.com/render-beeswax-honeycomb/
