Hamburger Helping Mix (In a Jar)

2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup beef bouillon powder
2 tablespoons onion flakes
1 teaspoon dried basil

I gave my working daughter meals in a jar for Christmas. One was chili, she texted me does this go in the chili, a picture of some sun dried tomatoes I put in a plastic bag. She said it smells like prunes 😅. Should have labeled better 😊

I live in an apartment, so making the most of space is crucial. lol I found this book, used, online; I definitely recommend it. I've been struggling with illness since New Year's, and having these types of premade mixes in my pantry was a lifesaver since I've had so little energy. Plus, it's a lot of fun to make your own and have a "grocery store" in your home. 😊

We have pretty much moved out of plastic in the kitchen beyond what food stuffs come in, but plastic peanut butter and other jars would work too. Im not convinced thatnplastic, screw top containers seal as well as a canning jar with a lid and ring. A used canning lid may not be good enough for water bath let alone pressure canning but it still has a rubber ring which provides a pretty good seal for dry goods.

Good afternoon I am in the UP of MI about 15 minutes from Florence WI. Yesterday it was almost 50 and we broke the high temp record. A few minutes ago it was snowy big flakes but they have stopped. Such weird weather!

Thanks for a great recipe! I think I would just add the cheese into the jar without using a bag. I've seen Homestead Corner do that to her jar meals. I know, everyone does it differently lol. Those were nice gifts. You can never have too many jar lids. Have an awesome day! 😊
I've done it both ways. In wide mouth jars, the dry ingredients fit into the single serv condiment containers and added into the top of the other ingredients. The cheese being separate makes it easier to get a smoother product. You're not fighting the other ingredients to get the lumps out. Either way anyone chooses, the JAW (just add water) are a great addition to the pantry. Put the ingredients into Mylar, seal them, label them, and it'll make a great single serv, bug out bag filler.
Not too long after hamburger helper came on the market, my mother was making her own on the fly. We kids still thought that boxed hamburger helper, boxed tuna helper, and frozen tv dinners were the best. Ive done the boxed helpers every so often ever since and then put a few in the pantry during 2020. Thank goodness it was only a few 'cause aside from being saltier than were used to, it was pretty bland without the herbs, spices, and flavors we're used to any more.

You are right she is very knowledgeable in herbs i've even spoken to her a few times I just like to point out there are some of the women on my channel that become really offended by anything that is not of the Christian background so I wanted to make it clear that she is pagan and she does not hide the fact that she's pagan the symbols that are tattooed on her neck are symbols of extreme paganism but that does not deter from the fact that she is extremely knowledgeable in herbs

What beautiful gifts for your birthday!! I was wondering if you had a playlist for your meal mixes so was glad when you said you did. After my recent move, I'm finally getting to the point of being able to focus more on my pantry and one of the things on my to-do list was to start stocking meals in a jar. I like the additional seasonings you put in the ones today so will be trying your recipe and going through your playlist as well.

I do these meals in jars at home, but thinking I need to do some for my BF (an hour+ away). I cook freezer meals on wknds for him, but he's not remembering to eat them. I'll have more quality time with him.
I need to do this for my oldest daughter. She loves hamburger helper, but can't have gluten. Those gluten free dinner kits are expensive. I could make this at a fraction of the cost.
