"A sampler with 10 seconds sampling time and two crates of records". THIS.
muggs schooled the alchemist
DJ Muggs is one of the best DJs/Producers in Hip-Hop scene!!!Straight Up!!!!
such a unique style
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So underappreciated, for me, having a distinctive style whether DJ or MC is the thing that makes you a legend
@@stephenheath8465 Damn straight Holmes!
😎👊
I had an uncle who was a hippie and lived in my room...
Jonathan Wright IKR?!
Was different times back then they say haha
I rewatched this 7 years later and in 2020 Muggs is still killin' it🔥
2023 .. aaaaaaand still worldclass
What he said about not putting the band on the cover is brilliant.
Damien Jiles Because they're on the front of their first album?
Damien Jiles It’s funny because there’s a stark contrast with Jay-Z and it shows the different artists’ different approaches. Jay-Z made sure to put his face on every one of his album covers from 1996 all the way up to 2009 over the course of 9 albums in order to maximise the reach of his brand and ensure everybody knows who Jay-Z is and even if they’re not a major fan or buying the record, they’ll still always see the face with the name.
And that’s definitely worked and is arguably part of why Jay-Z is one of Hip Hop’s most well known and reconisable figures. Both him and Cypress Hill are great artists with both clever approaches to their art that shows right down to the album covers
So much respect for this guy. His sampling was so ahead of the game.
me too this guy's cool
Thing Ive noticed is Mums are always into soul, Motown, disco funk and Dad's are into more heavy and out there stuff.
Nearly every DJ grew up listening to their parents records or a close relatives records
Muggs is one of the best to ever do it...i wanna see DJ Quik on crate diggers, that would be sick
The sound he created on III: Temples Of Boom is amazing, a real trip.
Another legend dropping the knowledge of Kraftwerk. So influential on early hip hop.
One of the best, most talented and underrated producers ever!!!!!
Underrated, maybe not, its legend status is made. This "underrated" word is so over used...
I love DJ Muggs. His style of making beats and sampling like 10 records at once inspired me and my style of sampling 58 records in like 3 minutes
as an old school metalhead I have no idea what most of these albums are, but I just love watching people sifting through the mold of vinyl and cardboard
Respect. I like how he is not flexing records that are just super rare and expensive. Just the str8 joints only! REAL DJ!
Muggs and Premier are 2 of the BEST producers EVER
Literally my top 2
DJ Muggs...one of the best producers ever.
His hip hop knowledge is far superior
He's the most inspiring producer in hip hop!
love that he pulled Cosmic Slop out. that's easily one of my all time favs.
One of the best Dj Producers in the world ,It such an honor to work with you. Thank you to Crate Diggers it was great working with you. Copeland Entertainment

God Bless This Man.
Muggs is a low key genius
The record at 7:05 is a rare classic with all female emcee's. Haven't seen that one in years!!!
Good music knows no boundaries
WOW!! The Montclairs "Dreaming Out of Season" on Lp!
I was spinning that single a few days ago!!!
The Monclairs Dreaming Out Of Season and The Grand Final sweet oldies! ✌🏾🎧Dj Vegas
One of the best to ever do it, such an inspiration!
the Muggs : Tricky was one of my fave things from the 90s
Really? i must've mist it..
much love muggs still as solid as steal!! my man still keeping it real
We still need to work together...
two creative minds that can lay it down forever...
Much respect for DJ Muggs. I knew he was talented and a great producer/DJ, but didn't know his appreciation for music. Great vid Fuse.
One of the most intelligent and real crate diggin individuals out there. He got it all straight. Learn the lesson, non believers. Knowledge is king.
kraftwek helped to lay the foundation for early hip hop. you have to remember, back in the late 70, early 80's, hip hop was about the music. MC's played a small part.
songs like numbers, was a major hit on R&B stations.
Zap&roger as well
Nautilus - Bob James 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Muggs, Premier AND Stoupe the Enemy Of Mankind are the BEST! Stoupe's samples are insane
Legend. Works with the best underground rappers.
My dream is to meet the artist. !!!
That guy is a wizard of god in beats!!! God bless muggs!!! Make it rough!!!
The Kraftwerk album did so much for me to appreciate electronic music. So much love man.
Man the gza/muggs album among so many other he made beats on is fucking genius
Shit me too. My mom loved her oldies, but at the same time there was never any cassettes or vinyl for me steal. But at the same time I can honestly say my sister got me into hiphop when I was younger. When ever she would leave the house id sneak into her room and blast her stereo.
7A3's only album Coolin' in Cali is still got some of my favorite DJ Muggs beats
Muggs beats are sharp as ever
Much luv to Muggs every beat on the first Cypress Hill album was 💯 🔥🔥🔥
Muggs got a smooth voice wish he would rhyme over some of his beats 🔥💯🙌
Hendrix T shirt says it all ;)
Much respect for muggs always reppin to new york and LA
Man..! He just gave us a history lesson! Word up!
It makes me feel good to see I have most of the same records..."I Need A Freak" was the shit!
I still listen to my PE CD and when it was out... I Think I played it for at least 2 years straight!
@9:27 you see his sp1200 up on the shelf. Classic
Chuck Jones (animator and director) called that Discipline.. What is your discipline on a project? i.e. What are your limitations on a story or production of a project. Great stuff.
Great interview. Keep these episodes coming.
Whoa this guy is dropping knowledge. Best episode iv seen thusfar
the real master..DJ MUGG'S...RESPECT!!!
Muggs...hip hop LEGEND!
YO! BUMN RUSH THE SHOW. the tightest hip hop album that ever existed. on this very day, hearing the intro to public enemy number one gives me chills. the consistent buzz throughout the entire song. its hypnotic.
Living Legend!
Mad Respect
one of the best love his grimy beats
I like Kraftwerk but it just makes me giggle when I think of a bunch of rappers listening to something like The Model hahaha.
"...and I can't get shit done."
Hmm. Focus, Muggs. Focus. We need you making dope beats again. Great stuff, I could listen to Muggs talking for hours.
Thanks for this, Muggs is definetly one of the illest! I'm still waiting for Preemo, The Alchemist and Juju & Psycho Les to pop up though...
love the series
Thanks for this video! Glad I found it.
......two crates of records and a drum machine with only 10 seconds = classics....and people have software with over 10 terabytes and no classics..????????
amon tri Just like The Beatles, Jack White, and Tom Morello, DJ Muggs has belief in limitations as well!
Same with Marley Marl. I remember him talking about making a lot of early Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, MC Shan with just one sampler and his only selection of drums on a tape reel which he had to sample off of every time
Its the man not the machine
I listen to stuff I made 20 years ago on a struggle set up, ans enjoy it more than stuff I made with all this dam tech...
I think the limitation force creativity, and ingenuity.
Well that is the thing. Today, when you have an excess amount of studio stuff, software and plugins at just a few mouse clicks away, and you can do all you want, and with a million possibilities you tend to not get shit done. Like Muggs says, with so little resources you tend to get creative.
Whoah!..really digged what Muggs said about sampling time,as the 1st bit of kit my crew had was a keyboard sampler with four 1 second banks of memory and no sequencer, so yeah u gotta like use the "off cuts "of each sample and utilise them also.My crew also loved that 1st cypress lp but thought our copies jumped, but it was just Muggs using the odd bits of the sample and throw em in there in a funky way.Thats REAL!
I remember 7A3, The Coolin In Cali Album Was Dope I still Have The Vynil
man!! Muggs, you ROCK!!
Legendary HipHop producer for 30 years!
A legend! I met him before. Very cool dude!

Didn't catch that at first! I can't imagine all the bangin' tracks that were created with that SP!
Beat bop is Hip hop by Rammellzee and K-Rob I remember that record in 1983.. I still have it in my crate selection somewhere.

This guys. Beats are ridiculous. Guys unbelievable
muggs is the man 👏🏾
The titans Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, respect.
The story of Jimmy Page living in Aleister Crowley's house is 100% true. He only went there a few times because he thought the place had bad vibes but he really did buy it with the idea of living in it. I'm pretty sure it's been sold since
Muggs knows what's up!
