My favorite part was the dingus who said "There are no Cds on this wall....that's a statement"...and proceeded to play those priceless records ON A FREAKING CROSLEY.
His system was in his bedroom where his wife and kids were chilling while we were filming. They did not want to be in the film. So he brought out the portable to his living room where he housed his records.
@@recordsafari3541 Thanks for the surprising insight. The fact that he is married (and has kids) is quite a twist. Oh, and the fact remains that he played a rare Nirvana record ON A FREAKING CROSLEY with its glorious ceramic cartridge and outrageous tracking force. I loved the movie, but that condescending dude made me laugh when he pulled that stunt.
That last scene gives goosebumps. Here’s a woman who thought she was done with music and most would never hear her music again. And here we are 60 years later she means so much to one man, who really knows music by the way, and all of us who are listening through this film. It was a beautiful song. I’d like to thank her.
I'm so grateful and honored to live 20 minutes away from GLASS HOUSE RECORDS in Pomona, California. Alex Rodriguez and his staff are the COOLEST individuals on this planet! You have enriched my life and opened my heart to so much beautiful music and records, I can never stop saying "Thank you"........Thank You Alex. SPIN THE BLACK CIRCLE !!
I'm from Pomona, and live there temporarily right now, and Glasshouse Records is indeed fun, but you need at least an hour to really go through every bin. I almost always find a gem or two.

Just managed to fix my 34 year old linear tracking turntable after sitting idle for several years. By using a small rubber band to replace the broken one on the arm driver it came back to life. Now after years of sleeping, my old record collection from the 60s onward comes to life again. And man, this doc gives me all kinds of records to go after now....
This is finally the coolest, most humble & unpretententious documentary about record collectors I've seen. People are portrayed as who they are: just normal folks with a true, deep love for music that they share. Wonderful. No nosy sociopath stereotypes and stuff like that.
That record player he's using is the same one my parents had when I discovered my Dad's Black Sabbath and King Crimson records when I was six years old in 1982.
As many as I can get for the festival stores so I have something for everyone. I definitely don’t need a zillion records for my personal collection. :)
That is how everyone starts, but every record will lead to other records and eventually it will be more than you thought you wanted. But I agree, I weed the garden once in awhile to keep it under control.
Good philosophy. Buying records can get out of control. We used to call it vinylitis fever. And anyone who is bipolar, watch out for vinylitis fever during your manic phase.
Combining my 2 favorite passions - records & travel. Love to take Alex's cross-country record safari and turn it into a global one! Fun documentary that feeds the fever!
This is so good. I had to sell my whole collection about 10 years back due to moving and not having the funds to store or ship. I still want to cry daily. Thank you!
Awesome documentary. Can I just say; The sound engineers who did this one deserve a raise. These have to be some of the best recorded interviews I ever heard.
Haven’t been able to sit through an entire multi million dollar movie in years but this documentary had me glued to my seat. Love collecting records as well but not over the top like some. Thanks for the ride along. Extremely enjoyable. 🙏😎
Finally a proper film about digging, never got boring. That bit about the lady being rejected by all the record labels was heartbreaking, incredible piece of music.
I have been a huge fan of vinyl my entire life. My youngest memories include my father introducing me to his favorite albums, many of which I still have today. I have spent countless hours searching through bins for that hidden gem. Family obligations and space considerations threw me off track for years, but I'm getting back in. I'm settling on a good reliable cleaning process for my older albums, getting a new turntable and this doc helped light a fire under me. Your cross country expedition reminded me of my love for analog music and the addiction I first felt as a kid.
Thanks to Alex and the entire production crew! This was quite an enjoyable journey. I've just turned 80, and though I've collected some since the 50's, I only pretty seriously got into it about 35 years ago. Once record-collecting gets hold of you, it doesn't let go. Beautiful song at the end - thank you for sharing that with us. I wish we knew more about her, and that she had done more in the world of music.
Record Safari has to be my favourite documentary on the vinyl record scene. Thanks for having the vision to create this film and sharing it with the world.
What a ride, that was so cool, thanks for sharing. Was great to see the Attic be able to rebuild, and very cool to meet so many owners. Also interesting that the U-Haul box is the standard for Record transportation
I found this movie the same way I found so many records in the 80's... Somebody recommended it to me. There could not be a better representation of record collecting than what is shown here. Killer work and great watch! Mega like! That last song though.... it would be amazing for someone to know that. So hauntingly beautiful...
What a great documentary!! The way he embraced each and every genre of music, was very knowledgeable and respectful to all music types. The last scene was fantastic and I appreciate his choice of his most treasured record. The most heartbreaking story for me was the gentleman that was diagnosed with terminal cancer selling his entire collection and didn’t want to burden his kids with them after he leaves this world. He set aside his passion for records for love of his children. Father’s love first.
Great documentary. Whether you are vinyl collector or cd collector as I am, you have to love this documentary. Of course we all have crossed path with vinyl, the important thing here is the music and the legacy left to us. However, vinyl is more important because in a moment time, in a different world that we miss that piece of plastic had a great importance in someone's life and possible we will not find it in any different format. We have to appreciate that.
At 17:52, you can see the top of a Bobcat’65 record to the left of Alex. I bought that record on a total whim. Never heard it before in my life. Knew nothing about the band. I was in Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ when it was closing in the summer of 2021. Garage rock band from Spain. Fell in love with it. If you like that stuff, give it a spin. You won’t be sorry.

Pete Rock was right when he said its unlimited. Been buying records for 54 years, been a DJ, these days work in a record shop, still see new records (new to me that is) every single day.
Brilliant Documentary, I’ve only been collecting for 2 years or so and I’m addicted. Nothing will ever compare to Vinyl. It’s the way music was meant to be heard. I will pass my collection down to my children and hopefully they will pass it on to their children.
How times have changed since this came out in March 2020. Alex is such a good dude - be sure to support his own personal record store in LA called Record Safari.
Hearing you talk about Anthrax and Public Enemy brought back memories of my 21st birthday when I saw them plus Primus on the bill. What an absolute epic show. The pit was insane. Thanks!!
Thing I love about people who collect records, I’ve not seen a single person who can’t remember there first album they bought. In my mind your first album will always be your best in your collection
My grandma was in the hospital in downtown OKC, and I got Rare Earth "Willie Remembers" at a discount record store there. Not the best, but I sure remember it.
Definitely enjoyed this. In the opening, Alex plays a record while introducing himself and I recognized the song. At the end of the movie he plays the song again and shares it's history and significance to him. I know that song as "Strawberries" sung by Jerry Butler released on 45 on the Vee Jay label in 1963 which I bought around that time and to this day it is still one of my favorite records. The vinyl culture indeed connects people.
DAMN RIGHT MS. BEE.... GOING INTO A RECORD SPOT SOMETIMES NOT KNOWING SOME RECORDS IS QUITE ALRIGHT. IT'S THE RECORDS U PULL NOT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT IS THE REAL DEAL! WHEN U GET THEM HOME AND PLAY THEM...AND YOU'RE BLOWN AWAY BY WHAT U HEAR..... PRICELESS.

I am Amazed finding this documentary. Thank you very much for sharing your passion and all of your hard work to keep the culture alive. This is a masterpiece, the history of music, is the history of life, people, civilizations and you truly showed it in all of the regions of the beatiful country. Thank you again @Safari Records. 👏👏👏
Yes, this was a fun journey and I can appreciate a guy who will buy a record without knowing anything about it. I've discovered so much great stuff that way though it was easier back when new releases were sub $10 and nobody wanted records, and thrift stores were loaded with vinyl. Hollywood record thrifting was like a dream back then (mid-late 90's) and there were great indy stores that all closed during the mp3 boom, I worked at a couple. I'm happy to see these small stores opening up and to see the older ones who stuck it out and survived. Shout out to Red Scroll too! I've ordered from their discogs store a few times and it's cool to see the people and place behind that. I will definitely seek out some of these locales in future travels. Excellent doc!

started watching this yesterday before work and couldn't wait to get home to watch the rest. it was fun to see one of the local shop owners in the video as well.
It was 1969, my dad and I went into the local department store and he let me pick out Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Bayou Country album, I was hooked. I’ve never had the money to buy as much as I wanted to, but today my vinyl collection is close to 800 albums. I also have a lot of cassettes and cd’s, but vinyl is my 1st love. I enjoyed this video and found myself wishing I could do the same trip. Thank you very much!
I'm envious of you...I wish I never touched a drug in my life. I would certainly be a lot more boring (no offense)...but my finances/mental health/etc...would be much more in tact if I didn't go down that rabbit hole. I haven't been free of substances for nearly two decades at this point...makes me sick!
Man this documentary is EXACTLY what ive been looking for! It was so good you stirred me away from watching a tv show i had in mind tonight lol great job!! Plus you included Slug and Ant from Atmosphere! Too Awesome!
I feel honored to give this a thumbs up. If more people followed their joy (whatever that might be) that was cool and did not hurt people like Alex I think the world would be a better place. Music is a world of magic and beauty. 😃
Fantastic job Alex, and thank you for sharing this. I been to several of these stores. Thanks for keeping the VINYL COMMUNITY going. I do the same!! From CT, near RedScroll (they relocated).
wonder how there's 2 Chamber Strings's songs in the movie, so glad to hear them, makes total justice to a big music lover as kevin junior was. thanks for put this movie for free.

It's a challenge for me to stay interested in watching a series or a a movie for that matter, unless I have to do it with my kids. But this one was enjoyable. You could feel the heart in this docu.
Many thanks for sharing this great doc. Just went to the top of my fave docs along with Zweig's Vinyl. Finally seeing collectors with similar tastes to myself and a guy who knows about records from all genre's. Just as a side note regarding Ike White (Love & Affection). He ended up in prison due to shooting and killing someone in a grocery store robbery as a youngster. I notice his lp has shot up in value since the excellent documentary was made about him (the Rodriguez effect!)

I haven't been free of substances for nearly two decades at this point...makes me sick!
I'm a Reel to Reel and a LaserDisc kind of guy and I love this documentary and I'm also 21!
Man this documentary is EXACTLY what ive been looking for! It was so good you stirred me away from watching a tv show i had in mind tonight lol great job!! Plus you included Slug and Ant from Atmosphere! Too Awesome!
Great little documentary.
Really great doc! Thanks for making/posting here! 💯🙏
I feel honored to give this a thumbs up. If more people followed their joy (whatever that might be) that was cool and did not hurt people like Alex I think the world would be a better place. Music is a world of magic and beauty. 😃
Beautiful movie here, thanks for sharing.
I put out the songs on a 7” for The Chamber strings back in 2009. 🙂
@@recordsafari3541 no way! that 7 ! i come apart + check out grls, i have those songs in a compillation made in spain, so you meet kevin while he was living in L.A? do you have some copies of that 7? he was a sweet soul, a humble guy who loves music so much, and so talented , it's an insane shame that his records stays so under the surface. i'm from chile by the way, no frontiers or distance for music lovers!, so, if you wanna take a plane down here please let me know!
hasta pronto
This video is giving me the itch to go dig and not just at my local shops but to go on a road trip. 😍🤤
It's a good story. I looked at it with pleasure. We'll have to look more closely again. And the jeans are super!
Just thanks for sharing this, music will never die!
Love the Portland and I-5 scenery! Great stores, great records.
Really cool. What a great way to spend a few weeks on the road.
It's a challenge for me to stay interested in watching a series or a a movie for that matter, unless I have to do it with my kids. But this one was enjoyable. You could feel the heart in this docu.
Lovely Movie!!
fantastic film about vinyl records that I relate to in almost every moment of the documentary. nice work!
👏👏👏👍 Great documentary....I'm likely to watch this several times....nice one ☺
Many thanks for sharing this great doc. Just went to the top of my fave docs along with Zweig's Vinyl. Finally seeing collectors with similar tastes to myself and a guy who knows about records from all genre's. Just as a side note regarding Ike White (Love & Affection). He ended up in prison due to shooting and killing someone in a grocery store robbery as a youngster. I notice his lp has shot up in value since the excellent documentary was made about him (the Rodriguez effect!)
Great film, well worth watching, thanks for posing.
