The reason the Mazda does not have a touch screen is quite simple. Spoiler: it's not because they never had it. I have both, but hate touch screens in cars.
Greg you nailed it. Servicing costs less on Mazda. Also I believe has provided a car that is unapologetically aimed at a driver and passenger mainly.with more room upfront than many larger cars. Back seat space will be suitable for the main demographic they are aiming at, if not they will be buy a CX 5. To option the Volvo and Audi to match the Mazda makes them around 15 k dearer. I believe it was stated in recent testing that the Mazda recorded the highest ever safety score for adult passages. It’s the Mazda for me and I have had an Audi A4 and Mercedes B class and never again. I’ve moved beyond badge and prefer to focus on value and quality.
The reliability gap isn't that big, it's pretty much similar between those brands only 4 percent better on the Mazda (67%). Mazda is not Toyota/Lexus or Honda, all with 80% and up Had a Lexus gs and a Mazda cx-5
That’s not true. Touch screen is safer to use because it is quicker so your eyes don’t need to look at it all the time when you use it, Whereas in Mazda you eyes need to keep looking at the screen so you know you are selecting the right function on the screen.

Nowadays, touch screens are installed in vehicles because “the sheeple” demand it, without thought or consequence of using them safely. Vehicle safety legislation will catch up on this one day and they will ALL be outlawed, you’ll see.
I see one big issue with this comparison, Mazda CX-5 should have been used, not CX-30. CX-5 is a lot closer in size and price to the other 2 vehicles, so it was kind of pointless. Mazda always makes it's vehicles bigger than the competition. This comparison was like comparing the Mazda 6 to Mercedes Benz S class, pretty absurd from all aspects.
Volvo withstanding newer offerings from the competition. It just shows how good the design is. Where the 2l 4-banger scared off a lot off Americans, Audi takes it to even lesser standards with a 1.4 no friction engine that will spill the oil within 3 years of ownership.

In most of the Carsguide video there is mention of wanting knobs rather than touch for things like volume and air-con controls. I would like to see a review which demonstrates the voice control and steering control function for those so called annoying things.
Let me get this straight, you are saying the volvo and Audi are better/same? let me check the price Mazda 34.000 Euro full Equipment (Sky X) Audi price 47.000 Euro (To get the same Equipment) Volvo price 47500 (to get the same Equpiment) But in my Case i get the Cheaper Version Mazda Comfort+ plus Sky G for about 27.800 I am Saving arround 18.000! Euro.` In the End is always about price-performance, how much i get for what price.
i just bought a new cx-30 (basic equipment, g122 petrol, polymetal color; europe) for 21.000euro. it has everything you need.. it only lacks parking camera, 18'alloys and automatic climate control (for which i don't care because i prefer manual).
The reviewer is defo an Audi fan boy, Audi have very basic spec and less reliability compared to Mazda or Volvo, the only negative for me with the Mazda is the boot otherwise it would be my fav, I have driven the Q3 and the XC40 and preference is the Volvo but my fav here without having driven is the mazda
You forgot to mention Mazda CX30 compared to the other two is actually smaller by 1.5 inch to 3 inches. So the rear seats is obviously less space, Mazda is 173.1 inch, Volvo is 174.6 inches Q3 is 176.6 inches. But one thing you have to consider about Audi is that everything is considered an option....LED lights, blindspot etc are options....Audi top trim is like $50K vs mazda $33K....
The Mazda is my least favourite. Simply due to the fact that it doesn’t look like a SUV, more like a lifted hatch with plastic slapped on. The Volvo and Audi have more presence to me.
Really liked your review format, but think you chose the wrong Mazda. I would like to see the CX5 take on the Volvo as it would be closer to the price and size of the XC40. Plus you get the 2.5 turbo.
They wouldn't, it would hurt their fragile European pride. Their resale value is ridiculous post warranty and only the uninformed or extremely brave buy them.
This is got to be the most bias review I've read. Didn't even talk about how the Mazda all wheel drive is superior to both the others, how the motor shuts off cylinders, and its a bullet proof design, and that the Mazda is even in this competition with vehicles that are10,000 more. Take the Mazda off road against the other 2 and then tell me who comes out on top...Plus the Mazda CX-30 isn't their luxury package it their starting point vehicle. Price to performance Mazda wins hand down....
I absolutely DESPISE the back seat test these reviewers do. Who is carting around adults in the back seat on a regular basis? This class of vehicle is for couples with small children. Almost NOBODY is carrying around 6' children in a SUBcompact SUV. it's a worthless test. If u want to make it meaningful test it with a babydoll and car seats or small dummies in place of children.

a good and fair review. Why buyers still think Mazda is more rise which is not a truly is because Mazda still uses older technologies unlike those two premium brands. I prefer newer technologies rather than keeping with old boring technologies. Yes, definitely Volvo rules here . Thumb up
Whilst Mazda may be claiming to be moving upmarket it would only be to premium (or sub premium) and not luxury so this comparison is pointless. Considering how much you rubbished things on the Mazda I would suggest a score of equal second is overly generous.
don't agree, had volvo T4 and the ride was on R DESIGN almost as firm as the mazda (perhaps slightly more compliant with some harsh roads but marginaly), seat cushion soft on both ,but where the mazda was far more refined is the silence on board, including from the engine, more subdued, not to mention the smoothest automatic gear on the mazda which contributes to the overall refinement

Test drove the Mazda CX-30 & it would have been our 13th Mazda but the Volvo was our winner too, so we bought one. I’d never considered Volvo before but all the reviews from motoring journalists were positive I had to test drive & it blew me away. If you’re looking for a small SUV then just go & try the XC-40 it will surprise you.
How is the service going to be when you have a problem with your Chinese built car.
Peter Paynting car is built in Belgium.
@@michaelsummers9579 Different country. Same problem. Will still have reliability, serviceability and quality issues as it is not built to handle the Australian weather. Especially if the car is red or burgundy.
Peter Paynting That I don’t know. I live in the UK.
@@petron1954 You bring up a good point, and one that is shared with the U.S. as well, but we have far more extreme winter weather versus Australia. Japanese makes have learned how to design their cars to survive Aussie/American climate cycles..Europeans, not so much. I think this is why VW/Audi is seen as fairly reliable in Europe/UK, but have horrible reputations down under and North America.
Really good review format, editing and graphics.
Not one but two thumbs up.
clear comparison. well done. thanks!
I'll take mazda anytime, because it's cheaper and have most of the tech what BMW and Volvo have. Not to mention a basic Volvo and BMW won't even have enough tech sa a low trim mazda.. Ijs.
The reason the Mazda does not have a touch screen is quite simple. Spoiler: it's not because they never had it. I have both, but hate touch screens in cars.
My Mazda 3's touch screen doesn't work above walking pace for safety reasons. I don't mind no touch screen when I get my CX30.
Apples with oranges...the CX-5 would be the propper car against the other two
I think the CX5 goes against the Q5, Forestor, and larger SUVs. Q3 is a compact SuV that matches the Rav 4, subaru cross, mazda cx30..
Him saying “Trust me” so many times really bugs me
Shouldn’t the CX-5 be more formidable comparison than the smaller cx-30? 🤔 Already knew which way this review was headed 👎🏼🖕🏼
Reliability, resale & warranty
1 Mazda
... big gap
2 Audi
3 Volvo
@@tonyagius1378 Good to see you have realised your mistakes with Euro crap and moved on. As you say, the Mazda is more of a drivers car.
The reliability gap isn't that big, it's pretty much similar between those brands only 4 percent better on the Mazda (67%). Mazda is not Toyota/Lexus or Honda, all with 80% and up
Had a Lexus gs and a Mazda cx-5
XC40 easily wins in my opinion. The turbo four cylinder is perfect here.
Touch screens don't really belong on a dashboard...
They are an accident waiting to happen.
That’s not true. Touch screen is safer to use because it is quicker so your eyes don’t need to look at it all the time when you use it, Whereas in Mazda you eyes need to keep looking at the screen so you know you are selecting the right function on the screen.
@@HHH-nl2yd I’m pretty sure you have no idea what you’re talking about. Please don’t do anything in your life which involves making decisions where safety is concerned for others🚨
@@harryrammer pretty sure I know what I am talking about. Just so let you know only Mazda abandoned touch screen and back to like the old Audi. So you think all other car companies are stupid ???
@@harryrammer just give you an example, how long is gonna take you to change apps from the Mazda control center comparing to a touch screen. The quicker the safer while driving. Unless you really don’t use the screen while driving
@@HHH-nl2yd regarding the stupidity of other car companies, mostly yes, but definitely all the German ones. Germany do make nice watches though!
Regarding changing apps on a touch screen whilst driving, I consider this a risky procedure by the user which could very well cause a hazard to third parties.
I have used the Mazda CX-30 console screen functions and they are extremely well thought out. With all safety concerns considered so as to keep any risk to a minimum.
This comparison was like comparing the Mazda 6 to Mercedes Benz S class, pretty absurd from all aspects.
the Audi's design looks like a joke beside cx30
Yeah, idiots like you can't chose what looks the best
So basically Audi Q3 interior is made purely for customers with mostly having blind co-passenger. OK
Volvo withstanding newer offerings from the competition. It just shows how good the design is. Where the 2l 4-banger scared off a lot off Americans, Audi takes it to even lesser standards with a 1.4 no friction engine that will spill the oil within 3 years of ownership.
pichurri also the least powerful and least fuel efficient on test. Bit disappointing.
*Gets top GT Sport Tech trim with hardened suspension*
*Complains about suspension*
CX5 will be more comparable
Not quite. The CX5 goes head to head with the Q5, Xc60 instead of these guys.
Mr. C.G.O CX30 is just an lifted Mazda3, not an trully crossover. In other reviews CX5 also compare with X1 and XC40.
@@aquaboy1650 Aquaboy, you got that wrong. It`s not just a lifted Mazda 3, it`s the same platform yes, but they have made several adjustments because this is higher car then the Mazda 3.
For Mazda CX 30 model is d best value & safety comes first. Two ranges of models is a luxury & performance
Shouldn't the Audi and Volvo be compared to the Mazda CX-5?
Yeah. I felt like Matt was picking on the CX30 on the separate review. This vid confirms it.
Great I love all three but my favorite is the mazda
Mazda will sell in 5 years time for more then the other 2 put together
Audi will be worth quite a lot with that brand new turbo and clutch!
Something is wrong with comparing Mazda CX 30 with the other two cars. 🤔
It should have been compared to Audi Q2 and Volvo V40 cross country. Mazda X5 are same size as XC40 and Q3
I feel like the CX-30 is quite out of place in this comparison. I would've compared the CX-5 against these two premium cars. I know it's to showcase the CX-30, but it just doesn't fit well in this comparison.
こういう比較って国産だとやりづらいけど、オーストラリアだと自分の国で作ってないから客観的で公平な見方をしてそうで参考になる
What about reliability
Wing Hoh 1. Mazda 2. Volvo 3. Audi
On reliability Mazda destroys the other two
Thank you for the review! Please could you update this line up for 2022?
In most of the Carsguide video there is mention of wanting knobs rather than touch for things like volume and air-con controls. I would like to see a review which demonstrates the voice control and steering control function for those so called annoying things.
Let me get this straight,
you are saying the volvo and Audi are better/same?
let me check the price
Mazda 34.000 Euro full Equipment (Sky X)
Audi price 47.000 Euro (To get the same Equipment)
Volvo price 47500 (to get the same Equpiment)
But in my Case i get the Cheaper Version Mazda Comfort+ plus Sky G for about 27.800 I am Saving arround 18.000! Euro.`
In the End is always about price-performance, how much i get for what price.
i just bought a new cx-30 (basic equipment, g122 petrol, polymetal color; europe) for 21.000euro. it has everything you need.. it only lacks parking camera, 18'alloys and automatic climate control (for which i don't care because i prefer manual).
VOLVO has been around for so long, and you still don't know that is a removable waste bin in the centre console?! #practicality
I've had lexus, bmw and mazda. would choose mazda any day for minimalist and luxurious interior, better drive and for user experience.
Mazda top is 40k
what about reliability and price difference?
The Mazda is my least favourite. Simply due to the fact that it doesn’t look like a SUV, more like a lifted hatch with plastic slapped on. The Volvo and Audi have more presence to me.
The rotary dial is much simpler on the move
Morons like you can't figure out why it sucks
@@professorgimsara2180 Why does it?
@@professorgimsara2180 No u
And you not plagued with finger prints in the screen, also the Mazda has a very good voice assistant on the go so you don’t have to use the dial
Can you please repeat the same comparison with the Cx30 turbo version from this year
I would rather have the sportiness of my mazda cx30..
please compare latest editions of same cars in Canada? Thanks
2021 CX-30 GS, Volvo XC40 T4 (2020) and Q3 Komfort
CX5 2.5 Turbo would wipe the floor with XC40, still probably cost less
Really liked your review format, but think you chose the wrong Mazda. I would like to see the CX5 take on the Volvo as it would be closer to the price and size of the XC40. Plus you get the 2.5 turbo.
Luxury is in the details
Car reviewers never mention reliability, where Mazdas absolutely ruin the European brands.
totally agree. If they mention reliability then it's a no contest. Mazda / Subaru absolutely destroy Audi / BMW / Mercedes / Volvo in reliability
I’ll chose the CX30 better performance and the interior is stunning
Disagree with you….touch screens are annoying! Fingerprints, raising arm to use. Sorry would rather have the dial.
Thank you for a great comprehensive report especially since I’m considering a CX30 at the moment.
Great, glad we could be of assistance.

Mazda Rules!!!
Solely because of reliability. There are better choices for the same size vehicles. Even a CX-5.

@@ClaudioAguileraMunoz Neither. Maybe a Subaru Forrester, RAV4 or Hyundai Tucson. Definitely nothing made in Europe.
Cool next , dacia sandero vs bentley
The XC40 should be more compared to the CX-5 (not the CX-30)
No , the cx5 is in the medium SUV class. it's too big to compare with xc40.
a good and fair review. Why buyers still think Mazda is more rise which is not a truly is because Mazda still uses older technologies unlike those two premium brands. I prefer newer technologies rather than keeping with old boring technologies. Yes, definitely Volvo rules here . Thumb up
Shouldn't it be the CX5 that's compared to the other two?
Volvo and Audi are just charging extra for that badge
Whilst Mazda may be claiming to be moving upmarket it would only be to premium (or sub premium) and not luxury so this comparison is pointless. Considering how much you rubbished things on the Mazda I would suggest a score of equal second is overly generous.
vs Price
@@hmaccas738 you can't throw a rubbishy and cheaper premium or sub premium car against more expensive luxury cars and say it wins on price.
Mazda cx30❤
Why not use the CX-5 turbo .Does not make sense , CX-5 a more fair compare.
What the hell is that annoying background sound? Could only listen for five minutes and I'm out of here.

Many thanks for this Review - all three of these vehicles were on our list and we have, as a result, settled on a T5 model of the Volvo.
😂you jumped down a 🕳...volvo crowd🙄 don’t forget to wear your wellies in the high street!!
don't agree, had volvo T4 and the ride was on R DESIGN almost as firm as the mazda (perhaps slightly more compliant with some harsh roads but marginaly), seat cushion soft on both ,but where the mazda was far more refined is the silence on board, including from the engine, more subdued, not to mention the smoothest automatic gear on the mazda which contributes to the overall refinement
R design = even more money?
If its possible could you do a video on Toyota Corolla... comparison between the last 3 or 4 models.
That would be interesting
Waste of time reviewing sedan car like Toyota Corolla which is boring that uses old technologies to achieve the reliability needed . Japanese engineers are not brave enough to modernise new technologies in their present line up. What a shame just to achieve that boring reliability especially the boring Toyota brand.
@@konsen6149 Millions of people have continued to choose the Corrolla over other brands even though others have the tech and people specifically in 3rd World Countries are still doing so.
Reliability, Good resale value, low fuel usage is what most people look for and that's why so many families choose and will always choose the Corolla.
Toyota is brave they have introduced alot of tech in the 2020 Corolla model but only time will tell if reliability holds up
So that's the question that has to be answered in due time.
My concerns now are that the Corolla is moving towards tech thus its price will sky rocket and therefore it will move away from being the "people's choice" 💔
That why Corolla is only meant for third world countries where their population breed like rabbits. They don't know much about car technology which Toyota is famous for using old technology and pretty much concerned about repayment loan. The cheaper the better whereby Corolla is a cheap affordable car to get around . They do not mind about lack of safety , comfort and boredom.
Most first world buyers would not buy a Corolla simply because Corolla keeps using old technology over and over again which is nothing good to shout about.
@@konsen6149 No they are not meant for only 3rd World countries. Not everyone in 1st World countries are rich and not everyone aspires to having the best of cars. Some people are more interested in providing a good home for their families.
Providing a good homes for families, I totally support as it aspired us to work harder. But considering having a Toyota for its reliability it makes me pondered into agreeing with you. I heard of Takata , unintended acceleration and other safety features/ body structure issues that remained some big questions thinking of owning a Corolla. Cheers
Still waiting somebody do produce more beautifull midsize sedan than mazda 6 :) (since 2013).
Great idea to have lots of passengers when testing the cars. That uncovers any under-powered issues.
Its underpowered probably because of the transmission...DCT requiers time to engage clutch hence you will have slow starts. Same kinda deal with Hyundai and Kia cars that uses DCT.
Volvo and Audi good luck with after sales service....
These luxury brands (Volvo certainly at this time) still only have a 3 year warranty. They basically don't stand behind their cars.
Mazda FTW IMO!
The air vents in that Volvo are hideous. What were they thinking? The rest of the car looks so nice.
not really suv's, just largish hatchbacks.
Mesafto I agree to me the CX30 is for those that like the Mazda3 but want more room . Having said that the CX30 doesn’t really offer much more room than a Mazda3
