I am currently in a gap year right now and saved up money for a 5 week trip around Europe (I'm from Canada). I just want to say thanks to you improvement pill because you just reassured me that this is going to benefit me. Lots of people told me it is a waste of time to take a gap year but that's not true at all. One thing I need to do more is read and with your videos it has encouraged me to start. Thanks again
Random Guy . I will definitely consider that! We are backpacking so we have plenty of flexibility on where we want to go! Any more suggestions would be appreciated
Hey man, I just want to say that I could really feel the emotion in this video. You seemed very angry, like you really care about helping people to make the right decisions in their lives. Thank you.
Great video man! You're right, we are highly conditioned to act as society wants us to act. Reading, Traveling and Taking time to think are great ways to form a wider view of the world, but I would also add: Learn to hear your inner voice. Not the voice that screams at you for being lazy, but the quiet one, that guides you to meaning, love and happiness (intuition).
Great vid. I've traveled far and wide in the world and met so many people. I've tried many different jobs and now I know what I want to be. I want to be a potato. Like if you cried.
I've been driving a truck cross country for the past 2 years now. While yes, you will notice how people in different parts of the country have different perspectives, and that's always interesting, the biggest thing I noticed was that we're all more alike than I thought. It has been a very enlightening experience and I don't regret it one bit. I have grown a much bigger respect for the other people in the country. One of these days I gotta save up enough to visit other countries.
🏆Awesome video!🏆 I think far too many people live the "default life plan" you're talking about. I took 3 gap years in my life (after school, after my bachelor's degree, and after my master's degree) and can't recommend this enough I also think that "not taking a year off in life" was in the top5 of things people on their death bed said they regret. Thanks for covering this topic!
My family, all my friends, almost everyone i know said to me that a gap year was just a waste of time but i don't care and next year i will travel all the time. Great suggestion and great video!
I am so thankful that I did and had the option to do a gap year on my own. Changes your mindset completely given that you live your comfort zone as said in the video. It kind of removes the upper boundary (limits) imposed on you by your surroundings or simply by the society norms.
I actually met a lot of people this year. It made me realize how small my social circle was. It also made me realize how different people were in different places. Moving next year.
Taking a look back now, I did take a year out after high school. Though not on purpose it definitely helped me form my current self and goals, so this definitely has something to it. Great vid! ;)
I accidentally took a gap year because I moved to a new state. I began reading, learning, next thing I know I'm running a business and very very against college. Also, preparing to travel the world while running the business. It's scary because a year ago I actually thought I wanted to go to college. After getting real mentors and experiencing real life, I realized there are quicker paths to success. Still a lot of hard work though! Find out what you want from life by yourself, THEN make a decision based on the quickest, most cost effective way to get there.
This is one of your best videos ever. We are so influenced by the people we already know and are often to blind (or stupid, do I dare say stupid here?) to even realize it. The small sample pool. I personally try to do all 3 things you mention. Have taken A LOT of gap years. I travel when I have the money to do so of course. And reading is obvious. Great VID
Hy @Improvementpill. This video had a huge impact on me. Thank you for this. Can you Please recommend me some books that I can read to expand my understanding of life and people which in turn can help me o improve my decisions.
Fictional stories also put you into the perspective of different mind, which is a person living in a completely different world than yours. Good writers do know people, and create their characters based on that. Plus they create awesome stories in which they put their characters into hard situations, force them to make difficult choices, and show to you how that influence their personality. Try to get something from every story you will read, hear, or experience in your life, and you'll learn to always look at everything from at least few angles ;) If you want even more of it, hook up with some programming, on yt there are plenty courses on how to do it, and it'll teach you more of it, and it will teach you analytic thinking (programming is really ain't that hard);
I'm truly impress for every video you share . I watch all of them , thanks for your sharing . your sharing is practical and evidence base, please continue to make more video . I'm your loyal supporter
Well. You've essentially described the exact way I managed to screw my life by in last ten years, lol. To the smallest f*cking detail. Guys, this video is SO TRUE. Everyone in their late teens and early twenties should take a break and go trough exactly these thoughts. This is what should be said and encouraged on highschools. I mean yeah, it's never too late, but some stuff is just really cool when experienced at the right time, right age. From my own experience, I will dare to disagree a little with implication of the message here. Because as long as people who got this whole thing right exist, you will meet them and you will arrive to similar conclusions about life. ...but by bittersweet comparisons. And that's not the way it should be. So everyone young enough to set their life on cool path, listen to this damn video. :)
Hey improvement pill your videos are becoming really unique and your own, i liked the book reviews in the past but I had read them, I appreciate that you share some of your more personal ideas now, refreshing.
I think the first video I watched from you was that of the four our work week, and I watched a bunch of them after and most of the themes I thought I recognized from certain books, like the 80/20, don't give an f*, growth mindset etc. Actually almost all the books I loved but had almost forgotten about. Maybe that's not called a Book Review, but those were what I meant
Oath dude. Dropped out of uni half-way through, travelled to Chiang Mai Thailand and met Digital Nomads - Completely different mindset compared to the conventional School --> 9-5 route.
Haha! A gap year would have definitely gave me an opportunity to assess my life after I finished high school. Knowing how dumb of a kid I was, I probably would've wasted it. In any case, I think that in order to stay happy, I make a decision with little to no research to avoid the dreaded *analysis paralysis* and then adjust from there. Makes for epic stories 💪😉
Improvement pill I just want to say you are an amazing youtuber and your videos have helped me in many situations thanks for awesome! Also just saying I really liked your animated storys and I am sure everyone else did too, maybe you should make that a regular thing?
I totally agree with you. I'm already doing 2 of the 3 things you mentioned: reading and get to know new people (I've always liked to know other people and listen to what they have to say). I would be really happy if I could take a gap year, or even a 6-months trip, the problem is that i can't, it costs quite much... and I am too young to work and earn money. But I'm sure I will do it sometime! Great video, keep it up ;) sorry if there are mistakes, I'm not English :P
Also, if you understand that a man HAS to make decisions with conviction or he won't get far in life, you make more and more, and after a while you feel sure about them. And you start to trust your own mind even more!
I'm currently 6 months into my gap year. Totally agree with the message of the video! I can confidently say I have developed myself way more than 3 years of University education has done for me. Wish I had taken my gap year sooner in life...
Finally marked your channel to notifications. I really enjoy your videos and want to follow them more! Thanks for the content, dude. Also, will you make another QnA video?
Great video. I really needed to hear this. Would you be able to do a video on choosing a career ? I know it was generally talked about here but maybe a more specific video about it?
As always your videos are a pleasure to watch. Thanks for creating the video :) If a video that can be created on negative relations, then that would be great (i.e. Bullying or Hurt feelings)
this year alone i met lots of new people lol...provementpill, practical psychology, garyvee, gerard adams, peter voogd, valuetament patrick, Lewis Howes, tony robin and lots of great people...well have been an A Student for a long time but have never n my life see myself as a 9to5 even when was kid just hated it and didnt know what to do unitll met you guys so to speak of have even build 2 3k mle (stone by the end of the month) instagram accounts and starting a third one and also m startng my own local business after 3-6 months ( saving money )....don't worry even f fail i will get back up and tell you my story in the long run :)
Turns out I wasn't wrong in wanting to get a break after high school before going to college, but my parents wouldn't understand. Now I'm coping with a career I don't love that much and to be honest with myself I didn't want to go to college. I guess I have to fix this crap now one way or another, but most of the times I feel that fear is stopping me from taking any action on the matter. Could you do a video on how to stop feeling fear or at least stop it from taking over you? (If you haven't already made one).
When I make decisions about my life I don't need to consider everyone in the world. Mainly I consider myself... I don't need a large sample pool because few people are in my exact situation with my exact attributes. Great advice though. :)
My boyfriend is starting his 3rd year of high school when the summer ends and he remains completely indecisive about what he wants to do with his life. On the other hand I'm certain about my future job and I have two things I wanna study in college, which means I'll go to college again once I finish the first one. I'm really worried about our future. There's no way we can wait until our 30's to get married, in this case I should be the bread-bringer of the house, for a short time at least. But I'm not sure if I can manage that while studying in the second college and while he's still clueless about what job he wants. I don't know if I should encourage him to take a gap year at this point. I'm already a year older than him so even if he could make his decision after that year, it'd take longer for us to settle down our lives. It's all a tricky situation ;-;
Thanks for making this video, it's made me look back in my years between 17-20. That's why I joined the Air-Force.So far I've reach three mile stones in my life and I'm realizing that "Conventional Wisdom" is bullshit.
Graduated Highschool in 2014 attended college 2015 and dropped out to work retail, restaurant, waiter jobs and wasn't happy working for just money, decided to go back to college in 2019 and graduated with an AA Dec of 2021 then took another gap year to see what k really wanted and here I am studying marketing just a as improvement pill said lol what are the odds.
You highlighted reading non fiction is good for different perspectives therefore to help with personal decisions , would you recommend creative non fiction though?
Tbh the sample pool thing works when you wanna walk the safe route, but what if your heart tells you to head into unknown territory, or even somewhere most people don't seem to work out in? Listen to your still, small voice. Follow your heart, the rest is just noise.
Do you consider phone sales (call centers) a decent sales experience? Or do you think you have to do a face to face salesman job in order to get good at selling stuff in the vision of becoming an entrepreneur? Just curious, is door-to-door selling still relevant and done a lot these days? Seems like it's kind of going out-of-vogue with internet sales, but I could be wrong
To answer your question. Yes there are still many people doing door-to-door selling these days, especially in countries where internet isn't much developed. Also, many things must be sorted face to face, for example when you have to sign in an important deal, so you still end up using and developing that kind of selling skill.
I noticed you kept saying "right decisions" all the time. What I'd like to know is, what is a "right decision"? How do you know whether a decision between various paths with various unknown experiences is the "right" one? What makes it right?
I am currently in a gap year right now and saved up money for a 5 week trip around Europe (I'm from Canada). Yes, please do. That is something I personally struggle with and would love to hear what you have to say about that subject.
Improvement Pill Awesome .Waiting for this one.

I did a poem/poet about the road not taken it's about making decision/choise
this year alone i met lots of new people lol...provementpill, practical psychology, garyvee, gerard adams, peter voogd, valuetament patrick, Lewis Howes, tony robin and lots of great people...well have been an A Student for a long time but have never n my life see myself as a 9to5 even when was kid just hated it and didnt know what to do unitll met you guys so to speak of have even build 2 3k mle (stone by the end of the month) instagram accounts and starting a third one and also m startng my own local business after 3-6 months ( saving money )....don't worry even f fail i will get back up and tell you my story in the long run :)

Great :)
You know the Truth!
Great Video!!!!
Turns out I wasn't wrong in wanting to get a break after high school before going to college, but my parents wouldn't understand. Now I'm coping with a career I don't love that much and to be honest with myself I didn't want to go to college.

In my gap year right now! yeah I'm not lazy I'm smart!
very exciting!
I m SURE!!!!!!!!!!!
You should do a video explaining the stock market !
When I make decisions about my life I don't need to consider everyone in the world. Mainly I consider myself... I don't need a large sample pool because few people are in my exact situation with my exact attributes.
Great advice though. :)
i suggest u to list the important points in thr description. that would be very helpful
This is less about decision making and more about life experience
My boyfriend is starting his 3rd year of high school when the summer ends and he remains completely indecisive about what he wants to do with his life. On the other hand I'm certain about my future job and I have two things I wanna study in college, which means I'll go to college again once I finish the first one.

You should do a video on books we should read top 5 or 10
"Or O"
I don't understand when people say to just travel. I don't have money for that.
You don't have to go to the other side of the world i guess..
People can get rly creative sometimes ;)
very interesting
sure
can you please follow this video up with a video about choosing a career and/or major? That would mean a lot thanks
Gap year is what I initially planned for, before entering college. . . But my parents and the society had other ideas. . .
AMAZING
He sounds sure, he just watched the video..
Will you do a video of The Art of SpeedReading People by Paul D Tieger?
Thanks for making this video, it's made me look back in my years between 17-20. That's why I joined the Air-Force.So far I've reach three mile stones in my life and I'm realizing that "Conventional Wisdom" is bullshit.
