Thank You Thom, great content, especially this episode covering Tommy Emmanuel. Beautiful Taylor you have, please moisturize the fingerboard, it will speed up the neck just a little.
What Thom has in spades over and above my own musical ability or talent is a great ear and eye for details along with great energy!! Absolutely love Thom's astute eye/ear/nose/sense for all of this and the ease (seemingly!) to bring this all together into such pertinent great lessons for all of us Patreon fans out here!! Jim C.
Holy Crappolini! I am AMAZED at how much tapping my foot loud enough to hear has in just seconds, changed my playing and made it even more enjoyable to me. Vastly easier than trying to hear a drum beat since it is internal and almost impossible to ignore. If I can keep at that and progress in an exponential manner, I should be able to attempt some of what you play in a matter of a few (6-10) decades. You never cease to amaze and I want to thank you for sharing Tommy's secret weapon. That man is beyond amazing. Stay Well.
Very nice intro to Tommy Emmanuelle. I've seen him play live and he is amazing. If you have time could you do separate lessons on all 3 techniques. Thanks for sharing.
I've been watching your videos for a few months now and love your attitude, your passion and your ability. But on this video you took it up another level. You actually sounded like Tommy! You've got such a great touch, delicate yet fierce when needed and your dedication is obvious. It's a true pleasure to watch you play. keep it up! :)
I had learn some tunes a while back of TE and didn't keep at it.. wish I did.. need to relearn but ... when I did it a lot, .. wow, people loved it and ... I was getting better .. thanks for the encouraging .. I was thinking metronome when you mentioned el feeto tapping.. will try.
Hi Pilgrim - we love it. Best tips: Breathe. Tap your feet. Fabulous. Going back to your tutorial on 'Blackbird', what's Paul doing? Tapping his foot...! Thank you for all you give to us all. More power to you.
It’s a second video you mentioned meeting Tommy and advise he gave. It gave me a lot. So, thank you and him for your foot tapping! It is getting better now:) Love your Taylor, it was well worth it. Great sound and markings on fretboard:)
Congratulations for this excellent video. Tommy Emmanuel is a great and super talented guitar player and an even better human being. Man, you can really play every style! I don't know weather to keep practising or buy a tennis racquet. Great job!
Yes, the foot rythem is very important. Also, when I was researching how to extend improving guitar finger style I would anchor my fingers except my thumb for bass. Slowly I would integrate my other fingers to pick the melody & single notes. This was a challenge. Like thinking with part of the brain never used. After combining all the fingers a new door opened up which afforded me a whole new style. The foot tapping was essential in this process. Sometimes a flat pick or thumb pick was necessary to capture certain sounds. However, calluses formed on my picking fingers could sometimes make the strings ring out. It appears to be a style that requires constant engagement. Thank you. I continue to learn so much from you.
@@jordanhunter7110 I don't think he does. I'll admit, sometimes the stuff he talks about is too advanced for me, but I just started playing guitar 1 year ago. I second the motion that Guitar Pilgrim is a terrific teacher. That Taylor was beautiful! 🙂
@@sweetnsourchick1761 yeah I'd have to agree. For me it's more of a 'I can't comprehend what the hell he's saying as I haven't done any research' and less 'he's talking down on me making me feel insuperior'
@@jordanhunter7110 I think Beato is focusing more on the "experienced" player. He did teach at the college level. But it never hurts to listen. You might pick up some tidbit that will help.
I'm very impressed with both yours and Tommy Emmanuel's guitar. And you have an excellent singing voice that can potentially make you a star as well! Tapping the feet-- give me a break! Go with the feelings is #1.
Love your analysis of these guitarists, wish you could do one on my personal favourite Michael Schenker and my favourite guitar solo from "Tales of Mystery" 👌
yes T.E. , His playing is not human. It is not for nothing that Eric Clapton says he has never seen a better guitaris than Tommy. Living Legend. I like how you play the song Mombasa...not an easy song.
Thanks for those life changing tips...hold your pick straight, use a thumbpick and alternate the bass, tap your foot. I'm almost as good as Tommy, thanks for those tips.
You are the best player on youtube. Iv seen a few! I dont know anyone else who can play mayer/hendrix and then a bit of tommy e on the side.Do you do session work /play pro?
Great video GP! My theory is that TE is an alien from another planet because a mere mortal could never play guitar like that. Also, let's not forget that his brother Phil was an amazing guitar player as well. They often performed together. I really love Tommy's version of "Deep River Blues" which was made famous by the one and only Doc Watson...................👍👍🎸🎸🎸🎸👍👍
First of all I have the same guitar in a tobacco sunburst ... I wish Tommy would slow down just a little,so I could enjoy it even more... BUT ...his speed is amazing
Guitar Pilgrim can you give us a bit of info about your background? Sadly, I’m not a musician but nevertheless adore your posts. I come alive when listening to guitar players. Just so interesting. Would love to get your take on Paul Kossof.
So glad you mentioned tighten up and grinding your teeth, I do that constantly and unconsciously, Have you got any tips on how to stop that .😬😬😬 ps love your vids 💃🎶💃🎶🇦🇺
Ok, I do want some credits here.... I remember you needed a little convincing to actually go and speak to him 😉 But then again, I felt a bit starstruck too. And I wanted to burn my guitars when I got home... Since me playing them was completely useless after hearing Tommy play.
Tommy has a hilarious anecdote about feet tapping in his rig round up interview for Guitar World (iirc)... ...you might be the person he was talking about hahahahaha.

Man your advice is incredible, your playing is flawless, and your personality is extremely humble. I enjoy watching your videos way too much.
0:01 Sheldon Concert hall in St. Louis I believe. I was there that night. Awesome memories.
My favorite piece of advice from Tommy..."It doesn't matter what it looks like on paper...If it sounds good, if it sounds right...then it is right."
Ha. So true. Especially coming from TE who never learned how to read music.
His acoustic version of Classical Gas blew me away... so much control of his instrument. The timing, feel, and tone is impeccable!
Absolutely!!!
Used to watch The Emmanuel Brothers play at my local pub in Sydney back in the late 70's... they were all pretty good...

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Tommy is one of the most gifted players I've ever seen and you have done his technique justice - incredibly helpful!
Tommy is ..probably... the best guitarist in the world. I mean I know it's subjective but he's off the scale good.
I agree!

I agree, i put it like this- tommy could play any hendrix, clapton song, any-they couldnt play his songs though.

Pls do a video about Earl Klugh , George Benson, Albert Collin , Buddy Guy and Albert King !
Could you do one of these on Adrian Legg?
You have the thumb pick off OK! Yep Tommy is a phenomenon
Nice, ... I can't play that well ...

My problem is that I have hoof and mouth disease, and it hurts only when I laugh and stomp my feet.
More Jimi Hendrix!
I tend to speed my foot tapping. Any tips for that?
Tap with your heel, hard and loud, think like a drummer. Practice makes perfect
Check out Peter Finger!!!...
First time we see your left foot ! 🥳🤯
Good job man , not a chance here 😂

I rest my guitar on my left knee like a classical guitarist. That makes foot tapping difficult. Too late for me to switch knees.
Tommy is my Idol but you play like Tommy Wowww
Why are all of your VIP Patrons named either Dan or David? Interesting ...
Dude, u have cool shoes!
It’s settled, my next guitar will be a Taylor
