I agree with that. Nowadays i have a playlist with songs like, Distractions, Through Our Love, I Owe it All to You, Somebody Who Cares, and many others
There are some really good writers out there, but I agree he’s the best. Incredibly inventive, second-to-none melodist, great arrangements, great variety of styles, and over 30 #1’s.
Step Inside Love is my favorite McCartney song, there is an audio studio demo on UA-cam somewhere where he is running it through with Cilla Black, beautiful chords and progression.
I discovered Jenny wren when I was getting I to the Beatles and, man, it’s such a good song. Another one that not many people know is calico skies. It’s beautiful
Paul McCartney and The Wings had some amazing tunes... it was experimental, yet mainstream enough to be appreciated by the general listener. Live & Let Die is one of the most satisfying songs to learn/play on guitar. It's like learning a mash-up of three songs in one.
Paul is my favorite musician ever. I miss his voice that held out in prime form till about 1985, then it was decent for the next 20...the last several it has been hard for him , but I still enjoyed Egypt station..I loved his singing on dominoes, and queenie eye from New....he will never lose the sense of melody that Paul fans love. Looking forward to mccartney 3...your hidden gems piece was excellent
@Mark Hays I wouldn't pay to see Paul again, but it's because I don't wanna spend the money or fight the crowds. I, my wife, and my three children saw him in 2011, and it was one of the greatest events of my life. I took my kids because I wanted them to be able to tell their children and grandchildren that they saw a Beatle perform live. We paid $80 each for our tickets, and as we were walking into the stadium, scalpers were offering us $300 each. 45,000 fans were there, many of whom were families of three or four generations. Five year olds to 80 year old grandparents.
'Nineteen-Eighty-Five'...has always been my fav-o-rite track off Band On The Run. It is a true rocker. Paul's new album, McCartney III, has another little banger on it...'Lavatory Lil'. Nice channel. You have a new subscriber.
(i speak spanish) Paul is the best !!!! you play veeery nice that guitar !!! there are so many gems , like "i´m carrying" , " love in song" "arrow through me" , "San ferry Anne". "i lie around" , "i want you to fly" etc , etc ..... unbelievable !!!!
Really great vid, I love Macca, and find it utterly amazing that he keeps coming up with great songs and very inventive licks and intros! Keep em coming!
Brilliant as some of my English friends and coworkers say. Nice going there GP. You are da man! OK ok don’t get a big head. There still is this chap named Paul M. Listening to the Beatles since a teenager and learning to play guitar and when I first heard ‘When I’m 64’ it was a catchy song. But I thought man that’s like a lifetime away. Flew by that at light speed. Now Paul needs an updated version. Maybe ‘When I’m 84’. Amazing.
I want to give you MAJOR PROPS for covering these gems by McCartney! So many times it's always BEATLES, BEATLES, BEATLES, when the man has done TONS and I do mean TONS of ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC SONGS after them! Thank You, from a BIG TIME WINGS/SOLO McCartney fan! Now do some more!
Pilgrim ... you are amazed ... but we are amazed by you. Love the midsection about Paul on piano ... which leads me to add how about “Maybe I’m Amazed” ... isn’t that a stellar piece of work ! ( yes ... a bit of a pun off his daughter’s name there )
As to contrary motion - he recently pointed out to Rick Ruben in the excellent series on Hulu recently, that his very first song, written at age 14, had the ascending/descending chords. He asked Ruben, "How did I know that?"
Fantastic. I have said it before but your enthusiasm for music and appreciation of the subject is incredibly contagious and inspiring. I tend to leave other guitar tutorial vids feeling down about my playing weaknesses or irritated by the over the top, flashy editing but never feel anything other than an urge to play my guitar after one of your lessons
@Guitar Pilgrim you are such a fantastic musician, your artist analysis and musical breakdowns are always an absolute joy to watch, and packed with musical insight! Thank You!
That's the thing: some of his stuff may be simple chords, but few people can put them together and create catchy songs like he does. I think for every great songwriter there are 100 - or a thousand - great musicians who can *play* it, but couldn't or wouldn't have thought it up.
Whenever you are ready, Ottawa needs you to come back and finish your term as P.M. your hair is better this way. I saw Paul in Vancouver a few years back. I loved Temporary Secretary. Very well done videos here. You really get it and pass down these invaluable lessons.
Fantastic video, I think you really captured some of the essence of the brilliance of Paul McCartney. I love your comment "It's amazing how simple that is... why the hell didn't I think of that??" Lol so true. But the music stays relevant through the years. That's seems the true test right?
Great breakdown as always, thank you. I love McCartney's songs...I only wish he'd had others sing them (over the last 25yrs). Love your passion for great music wherever it came from .
Great video. I'm going to make the suggestion to you, that Paul's left hand piano technique came from his father. Because his father would play piano at McCartney family parties. It's reminds me of old fashioned English pub pianist style. He's said that once his dad wasn't able to play anymore, he took over the job. So I think he learnt that style
McCartney made three Techno albums under the name "The Fireman" between 1998 and 2008. One has the title "The Fireman Rushes", which is a line from Penny Lane. No where does it says that it's him, by the way.
Hey man! I really love your content. Your actitude and passion makes me to play more guitar, so thank you :) I thought that in the video it would have appeared the guitar riff of "Oo You" or the bluesy song "3 legs". In my opinion they are gems, well, McCartney has lots of gems...
Those are great. I was (long shot) hoping you might be doing "One More Kiss" though maybe that's more of a Jimmy McCullough stand-out track than a McCartney one--even though the words are nice enough and the melody is sublime.
The ol' boy's still doing it? Well, go on with his bad self! I love it. The thing I love about Paul (well, everything, really), is that for him, it always ever was and only ever will be all about the music, and that's one of the reasons why it's so good. He really is a genius, especially when you consider he's never had any formal training. And he's so full of life, too. It'll be a sad day when he's gone.
I thought I was the only Macca fan who had Little Lamb Dragonfly (from Red Rose Speedway) as my favourite Paul McCartney song. But I have discovered here on UA-cam that it is a favourite with many McCartney fans. Also ... The album Back to the Egg is almost entirely built on that alternate octave bass line. Old Siam Sir, Arrow Through Me, the chorus of I'm Getting Closer, Rockestra Theme - all feature the octave step bassline. Also Magneto and Titanium Man on Venus & Mars. Those are just a few I can think of, off the top of my head. The genius of it, is even though it's basically the same bassline structured on the one simple idea - they all sound different!
Another great macca piano with the octave bass/left hand... Let ‘Em In. So simple...but only two notes in the right hand...and somehow sounds extra special in the Original Key.
My guitarist friend says I'm hard wired McCartney. Knew him as just himself before I knew anything about the Beatles. Mostly due to LPs like Band on the Run. I listened to his early solo stuff from about 4 yrs old and didn't know about the Beatles and till a few years later. You can always pick out the McCartney songs in the Bealtes music.
Yes, Macca is indeed an inspiration, he was blessed with a more generous slab of musical talent than mortals! Great video Pilgrim, you are pretty good also! Cheers
My favorite song of any Beatle is Talk More Talk, and it's got cool guitar tracks. It's from my favorite album by a Beatle, Press to Play. The harmonies and changes are awesome. Then there's his unreleased song Same Time Next Year. But as examples of guitar technique these songs are great examples.
McCartney III has now been released and amazing it is, acoustic ballads and heavy rock riffs are all there. Like Tony Bennet and Frank Sinatra, Macca has enough music to allow us to hear his voice has changed, and it is wonderful that it has . At 78 he is still an inspiration, and Thom, so are you. By the way, that pick/strum technique? Legend has it that it came from the British folk musician Donovan.. who knows? Lucky we are! Today, was another good day...
It is stated by the three of them: Donovan, John and Paul. Paul just not sat down by the lessons that Donovan gave to John, only passed by once in a while, carrying his guitar on the belt, thus emulating a different style from what John was learning. Actually he developed the style, he had used on " Yesterday" to a higher level.
As for his voice: No, it has not only changed. He has it destroyed tbh. Sadly enough. He should have taken care of it and eventually gotten a surgery. Now it's too late :/ There's a comment further up that explains it quite well.

My favourite hidden gem is “Goodbye”. He gifted it to Mary Hopkin who popularized it, but his version is absolutely angelic. Check it out!
Similar to “step inside love” , Paul just gives them out like free candy
His strength is that he has hundreds of hidden gems upon hundreds of not so hidden ones haha. Greatest songwriter of all time.
I agree brother, he wrote so many good songs it's incredible!
I agree with that. Nowadays i have a playlist with songs like, Distractions, Through Our Love, I Owe it All to You, Somebody Who Cares, and many others

@emerald you’re jealous lmfao 😜😜😜
Nothing is simple until it has been created. Takes a musical genius like Paul to create so much "simple" music.

In the song ''Goodbye'' (1969) he used this technique. And it's one of my favorite songs of Macca's' Beatles.
His last song that I thought he still had his "good" voice on was "Fine Line" in 2005.
Paul should have retired after the Beatles that goes for the other three
@@antoniosantorini9355 FTI, McCartney still sells out sports stadiums at age 78. He's had more than 20 top ten hit records as a solo artist.

That's one of my McCartney favorites too. When I saw him in concert in 2011, I was thrilled that he played it.
Glad you picked 1985...forgotten gem,one of my favorite by him,and my favorite by him Let it roll!
1985 IS A MASTERPIECE!!!!! Excellent video!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's great to see a young person so excited by McCartney's talent. You've got the Beatlemania bug, young man!
Add in "Warm & Beautiful." My wife and I had it sung at our wedding in 1979.
Love in song is absolutely catching!
Really great vid, I love Macca, and find it utterly amazing that he keeps coming up with great songs and very inventive licks and intros! Keep em coming!
Could you make one about George Harrison's solo slide guitar songs too?Almost everyone ignores his amazing slide guitar in his solo songs.
Very good request!
So true!!!
Even Eric Clapton admired George's slide playing, he was unique.
Truue!
Love his slide...best part of his songs. So unique
My choice for hidden gems: Motor of Love, Warm and Beautiful, English Tea, I’m Carrying, Through Our Love, Winter Rose and many more!
Winter Rose is the bomb, his voice, the music, everything.
Simple songs, impossible to beat. Macca is a true genius. Thanks for yet another great video!
