WOW! Killer performance from two of my favorite guitarists, and your breakdown of it is PHENOMENAL! Loved soaking in every second of this break down of John and Keith’s styles in this videos. Amazing dude! 🙌🏽
You are a great teacher! Breaking down the harmony and exact chords and licks and building from there. You explain the details of what the musicians are doing and why, showing what is important and what is not and all in a way that is engaging and easy to understand. Kudos!
John Mayer has always been one of my favourite guitarists. And definitely my favourite artist, period! But man, I have to admit, I love Keith Urban's phrasing more than John's. He has a very different approach to soloing . Love it! Two amazing musicians!
For me, as a MASSIVE John Mayer fan, I understand how John was doing this! John was letting Keith truly shine here! John is incredible at not stealing the spotlight while still making an amazing contribution! Of course, he can steal the spotlight but it's fun seeing the moments when he chooses to let someone else shine! His goal was to support Keith because Keith has chops as good as John! Other notable instances of John doing this are his performances with J.P. Saxe ("Here's Hoping" and "I Don't Miss You"), Alexander 23's cover of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and his performance of "Thinking Out Loud" with Ed Sheeran. But I love this video because John let Keith go loud and steal the spotlight! And I love it! Also, the musicianship is AMAZING in this performance! With Keith Urban's solo, hen Keith's strap (with strap locks) came off, John tried to help Keith immediately! Truly incredible musicianship! One of my favorite collaborative performances of all time! Sorry, I rant a ton XD
keith urban s solo is very melodic and vocal, with emotion and taste, the best to play with john mayer at your side but to play on an equal plan. This man rocks the duo

I'm a huge John Mayer fanboy, and I think that his playing in this song may have been a bit cleaner, and I love his blues influence, but I think that most non-guitar players would gravitate towards the melodic lines of Keith Urban in this instance. Well, I am a guitar player and I still gravitate towards the melodic lines of Keith Urban in this instance. As opposed to the more derivative/generic bluesy, more minor pentatonicky (boring) licks of Mayer, even if they are played cleaner or better or even if Keith hits a couple 'wrong' notes here or there amidst his more inventive playing, and John doesn't.

love the video man. I disagree on your opinion of why John changed the intro, however. I think the band very well could've picked up on a more subtle intro riff, but he decided to go for a more punchy start to set the tone/mood of the song. he wanted his dynamic to kick off energetically, thus changing his technique to match it. I assume most of the band are using IEM's, which further lessens the importance to make an intro noticeable to them. it'd all be part of the mix. excellent video about one of the best guitar video from last years, very good duo
What a great video of two great guitarists and playing by a third.
Brilliant demo and explanation of one of my favourite videos. Thank you 👏👌
What a good channel. Please keep up with the good work. Cheers
funny thing is, I don't even play the guitar but I like the Pilgrim's videos anyway. So much information on a lot of my favorite musicians and their styles. Great work!
Try to comprehend the idea of different vs better. These two are incredible alone and surreal together.
John is great, Keith is great, but you are the best! Fantastic video, tks!!!
Two incredible players. Thanks for the great lesson!
Yesss, one of my favourite performances. Was already silently hoping you would do this one :) such mindblowing talent on that stage
My soul felt blessed after watching this
Those tones, urgghh! That's why Fender strats is one of the best guitars.
Finally somebody highlighted this duo in a video!
Great cover and excellent video. You are really good at teaching “feel”...
Thanks brother 🙏
one of the best covers of all time!!
We want part 2 of John Mayer and Keith Urban
I second this!

Tremendous breakdown of a great song. This performance ranks with Robbie Robertson and Clapton playing Further On Up The Road on The Last Waltz. Thanks so much.
Damn, thank you so much for this awesome video!! ;-) This song, played by these two, is a real gem
Thank you for this video. Some licks you've showed us are priceless! Sadly I'm not able to replicate them alone easily. so I appriciate the effort man! My FAV. cover of an amazing song by FAR!
8:18 never seen someone doing pinch harmonics like that! But obviously, it works great.
i was taken aback as well, iv always done it with the thumb, but I can see how using the pointer that way on an upstroke?
He holds the pick at an "upside down " angle which would make it impossible to use his thumb. His pick is on a north east/ south west plane instead of south east/ north west which is the usual way.
Now I liked that! I'm glad somebody can pick apart these pieces, when I hear of people sayin they just watched there heroes playing and copied them I never can understand it, because the vids r never shown close up enough and long enough for me to knw wat the he'll their doin. The fact u did this and shared it with us was great I dnt see enough of this or at all I was so taken back I didn't bother to learn wat u were showing me but al save and check it out again long comment soz but yeah pls do more of them, in fact just do that!
Solo's like these have been played for years and years. By many many artists. It's great that the next/todays generation should have their own interpretations of what are the same scales/notes that have been played since the birth of Rock and Roll.
Tab at 3:07 not quite right? I think the A 3rd string 2nd fret should be played (which GP appears to be doing).
You are the man! I've been waiting for this ! As soon as I pass the bar exam in a week and start working, you've got another patreon subscriber! Thanks!!!
It was a great pleasure to see their playing, however; you also have great skills and amazing tone. Thanks for the channel and your contribution to guitar world.
Can I just say aswell wat I think is cool is ur saying how hard all these things r but then go on to play them aswell, ur a great player!
Jeez I was wondering when someonz would do an analysis of this sick and amazing cover ! Thanks a lot !
How can anyone dislike this video? This is freaking cool man!!! Keep it up!!
Never seen your channel before, I loved watching this! Thank you very good analysis of both artists playing.
