Serendipity! Thank you thank you Last week I got a letter from my HOA telling me to repaint my windows because they have a reddish tint. It’s true. The new windows were not the right shade of brown but I don’t want to order new ones because that is just too wasteful. So grateful to you and am now a subscriber!!!

Well done! Trying to figure out my house colors for an exterior paint job and struggling. Came to realize I may need to paint my vinyl windows black. However, I'm in Northern California and we get consistent 90/100+ degree days in the summer....although, northern facing windows with morning sun. We shall see....

We were worried about that too - mostly because of the sliding track. We just painted the outside of ours here.

We sold the house and moved, but they looked great when we left in Jan of 2023. The black spray painted windows in playhouse also looked good. But we lived in a northern climate so didn't experience really hot weather (anything really above 30-35 deg C). So that is def what you want to consider when going a darker colour. I am glad that I came across your video, and yes I totally enjoyed watching, I was wondering can I paint vinyl windows since Anderson wanted $45,000. for 17 black frame windows, and now that I know that I can do them myself I think I will do just that, however, I also wonder if I will get the same effect if metal spray primer will be used. but that this sooo! great what you have done, thanks for sharing 🤗💜👍💯
This is what we came up with after researching into it a bunch. The biggest thing is to make sure the end result doesn't damage or warp your windows :)

Oh wow your blog and video is sooo helpful. I am someone who dont have any experience with painting and i want to paint black my sliding door and and windows in living room ( recently bought house). I love how you explain everything in your blog and Definitely going with the mixture of paint you selected. I only have one question .
I am painting the door and windows inside out, should i cover the track system as well with paint or leave them as it is. It will not look good if track system isn't black i guess ? Just wondering if it wont give any issues in sliding?
I would be hesitant to paint the track system. It is very likely to scratch the paint, as well as possibly affecting the usability and smoothness of how the door opens/closes. Thanks so much for watching, glad you enjoyed the video!

Thank you for this video, I learned some things! Aesthetically speaking I would just say Charcoal and Black are too close to one another, and it doesn't provide enough contrast. But if youre happy with it, that's what counts.

Paint looks great! Sherwin Williams does not show black color in their list of Vinyl safe paints, darkest they have is Pepper Shaker, is that is the one you used?
No, it was a custom mix. You can see the paint can combo in the video, or in the blog post linked in the description box! You can save the photo and bring it to your local store.
Your house and windows came out great! I just had my windows painted black. He actually finished today but I was unaware that there is specific paint to paint the vinyl. He used a spray paint. I believe Rustoleum and put a sealer after he was done. I am so nervous about heat (hence the reason i am reading your article) but there is no going back now. Do you have any information regarding this?

No because the spray cans didn't come in the colour we wanter or the "vinyl safe" paint we wanted to use on our existing vinyl windows.
We just did this to our house! I wanted blk siding as well, hubs wasn't on board with me. We went white.
I am sure it looks great too, but we love the moody feeling the black added!
I hope I didn’t overlook this info if you posted it somewhere, but what exact color did you tint the primer with? On the SW site I can’t seem to find any grey shades that are available to tint the Extreme Bond Primer. Thank you!
The paint store just added tint to the primer to darken it. Your SW stores should be able to help out. If not I can dig deeper and see if I have any info on a primer can! Thanks for watching!

No, you heard that right! 40 Celsius is about the highest we’ve ever had (we live in Northern Canada).

Do you also paint the inside? Will it look weird if you don't also paint the inside
Looks fine, there is a clean break, the inside matches the interior and the outside goes with the exterior. Looking at the windows nothing seems out of place.
Did you paint the screens as well?
We did! We painted them after this video, but we did. Just the outside edges.
SW doesn’t have vinyl safe paint in black, I’m confused how you did it. Dark gray is all i can find on their site.
