@pavcon No glow or spark plug. so basically if it has fuel there isn't much to make it stop. Economy is another, but it's no better than gasoline and spark ignition. I do it because it's unique.
@TestECull Why not? This is a hobby and my interest lies with engines now more than flying. The engine does perform much better than this video shows. I'll have a new video soon. There is a gain in sound, it's MUCH more quiet. This is hard to gauge on the video. 30 minutes of flight on 6oz of fuel that costs 7-8USD per gallon isn't bad either.
@rcdieselrc Mine would be either a Corvette ZR1, a Honda NSX spitting about 400HP out, or a Caterham R500. Thought I'm not above a good, throaty V8 either. So I might be convinced to try to wedge an LS7 into a Miata, 240SX, 280Z, or similar. Nothing quite like the sweet roar of a pissed off LS7 rocketing an overgrown go-kart to frankly insane speeds in just a handful of seconds. Should make getting on the interstate fun! Oh, and proper manuals throughout.
@rcdieselrc As for sound...that's a LOSS of sound if you ask me. The louder the better. I want to be able to hear it. I went nitro partially so my cars made a quasi-realistic noise(Realistic for F1, at any rate), and that's going to be the same case with my planes. If I can find a way to stuff it in the fuse my NexSTAR will eventually sport a tuned pipe. If I can't make that work, then I'll do it for my second plane. Either that, or I'll supercharge a four stroke. Not entirely sure yet.
What I want to know is why you would run diesel. To me it seems like all you're doing is making the engine worse. It becomes three times the fuss for absolutely no sound or power gains.
@TestECull Yeah, there probably is. My "muscle car" would be a sleeper mid 90's BMW 318 with a full turbo build. 400+HP, and 30+MPG. I'm not the guy with the loud pipes save lives decal or a "pair" hanging off the back of his truck. Noise pollutes everyone's lives. I already had tinnitus at the age of 30. I like the sound of a good engine or stereo, just not on the streets when I've got my kids in the car. When I go to race track I make that choice. Flying sites are being lost to noise problems.
@rcdieselrc There's a muscle car with your name on it in that case. There's way more for an engine guru to do on a car engine than a toy plane engine. As for power...should be interesting to see. But unless it's got so much power it rips the firewall off I'm not going to trade in my glow plugs anytime soon.
@@rcdieselrc you didn't understand , i know they start easy by hand so why do you use an electric starter , less chance of engine damage if the engine is flooded
@@barneybetelgeuse6273 Because I know how to not break an engine with a starter. Why flood it? Why not check if it's flooded? This is not a rare vintage engine with weak components and no spares. Check out the finger starter in my vintage ETA .15 video.
@rcdieselrc You'll never see a flappy paddle gaerbox in my driveway. Don't care if they're faster shifting, they're not as fun and need to stay in F1 where they belong.
Love the sound of a diesel! So much more realistic.

I think it sounds more airplane-ey with this engine. I'm also a big fan of efficiency.
chikoli well done zamkudi

ok this is newww to me.. what's the cons and pros of the diesel engine?? ok I can only see the obvious difference.,.. the sound.
This is all done just for the challenge and fun of it, right?
do you sell these engines?
Flys nice good video.

rcdieselrc I have had tinnitus since about 25 and still love the sound of a straight piped V8

@8ackbar Yes.
I don't know mate about starting a diesel with an electric starter Brian Cox always starts his by hand should look at his videos 🙂👍
I know about starting diesels with a starter and it works just fine, if you pay attention. These will start by hand just fine.

Contract me through my website if you're interested in an engine.
