My granddaughter Molly, age 4, and I watched your two Flower Pot videos. When you said if you liked this video, give it a thumbs up, she immediately gave it a thumbs up from her seat next to me. She is very literal. I enjoy your videos. Thank you. Linda
Hi Linda! Ohhhh, this makes my heart smile! Thank you Molly, you're my kind of people! And how sweet that she watched the videos with you. That's wonderful she's getting exposed to art at a young age. Enjoy your precious time with her. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Hi Alice! Awww, thank you for such kind words! I appreciate it!😊 It's great to hear you're enjoying my videos and getting value from them. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Did you mention sealing the inside of you pots as well? I’m thinking of mosaic over some painted pots that I did with unicorn spit that were not fade resistant colors ! happy to have found your videos, Thank you 🐬
Hi, Julie. I love the colours. The white grout makes it pop. Great idea to cover the inside and tape the end. I think a pink flower would be lovely it that pot. Take Care.
Hi Julie, do you have any advice on sealing a mosaic terracotta pot made with seashells instead of tile? I know you said with natural stones the sealant won’t rub off..wasn’t sure if this would be the same case for shells 🤔 any thoughts you have are appreciated!
When removing the tape from the bottom you mentioned finding the last piece of tape. Perhaps make a mark on the last piece of tape with a 1, and a 2 for the next one so you know quickly which way to go.
Re-visiting this video, Julie, as I've decided to work on a flower pot. A friend gave me a plant as I was recovering from multiple surgeries over the last couple of months... but of course the plant died (they didn't get the memo that I'm a plant killer). So I want to mosaic the pot and give it back to them as a thank you. It's a white glazed ceramic pot and it dawned on me that I might need to prep it somehow. But I think I'll be using thinset as adhesive, so maybe not? I am thinking thinset and grout and seal the grout afterwards and then just tell them it would probably do best inside or covered (we are in Seattle, afterall haha). Thanks for any tips!
Hi Erica! I hope you’re feeling better. What a nice friend you have…and are! I’m a recovering plant killer.🤣 You can mosaic onto a glazed ceramic pot using thinset - no prep required. And yes, I would definitely seal the grout as you mentioned. Check out this video on sealing grout: ua-cam.com/video/5JqZU5ucM_k/v-deo.html. Keep feeling good!🤗
Hi Julie. I love tour videos and they have helped me alot. I have a bamboo planter want to do indoors plants but I want to do something with mosiac and pepples etc. Also can I skip the grout and if yes what should I do. Thankyou
Hi there! Yay! I'm so glad you got value from the video. I just added a link for the sealer in the description below the video (check the 'items used in this video' section). Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
My flower pots will be outside in Arizona with temps up to 120 degrees. Temps can also freeze in the winter, 28 degrees. Both temps F. Do I need special adhesives or grouts for these temps if pots are ouside year round? Thank you.
Julie, Thank you so much for these tutorials. I've just retired and decided to use my design skills in a new medium. Your videos "demystified" the process and gave me the confidence to tackle this. I just grouted my 4th pot using chocolate colored grout and it looks great. While my first pot was grouted with black, it felt a tad stark. I have a question for you...how do you mark off designed areas on pots. Right now, I'm measuring with strip of heavy paper and make marks. Then, I freehand the marks together to get my edge. Is there a better way? Thanks
Hi Sue! Congrats on your retirement! 🎉 Great to hear my videos are helping on your new(!) mosaic journey. Chocolate grout is one of my FAVORITE grout colors. For marking off you came up with a great method. Another idea would be to use a seamstress tape measure, although I like your idea better. Rulers are too rigid, especially when there's a rim involved. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Julie...I was wondering if you are using thinset for this pot and if so why instead of regular grout? Thank you so much for all your very deteriled info. I am really new and learning.
Hi JC! I used fortified thinset-mortar as the adhesive and fortified grout as the grout. You can grout with thinset-mortar as well, I just didn't because I have a lot of grout to use up. Keep creating!
Hi Roxanne! Great to hear you're enjoying my videos. For a countertop bathroom I would seal the grout, or use a grout that doesn't require any sealer. There are a couple on the market. But because it's near a water source, I would do something to protect it for longevity. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Julie, I've created my flower pot and like the mosaic design. As a beginner, Im not very good at grouting. What can I do to smooth our rough grout on the bottom and under the lip of the top of the pot. Thank you.
Hi Dalia! Here's a video link for how I seal mosaic art. All of the items I use in the video, including the sealer, are linked below in the description. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Hi Lily&River! Awww, it's great to hear you're enjoying my videos.😊 If I'm making a mosaic for outdoors, I always seal it regardless of my grout or cement-based adhesive says on the label. I live in Miami where it's super humid year-round. You may be able to get away without sealing where you live....plus, it depends on what the substrate is. If I've spent so much time on the mosaic, I'll invest a little more time by sealing. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Greg! I don't have any experience using Flex Seal as a sealer. I stick with grout sealer and it's worked out well. I think this video might help you: ua-cam.com/video/5JqZU5ucM_k/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Hi P Marlowe! You certainly can. You’d just have a more shallow dish to collect any run-off water from your plant. You would go about it the same way you would a flower pot…use fortified thin set mortar as your adhesive, and you could even use it for the grout. Glad you’re here!
Hi Jacqueline! Yes, I've seen terra cotta pots in black in addition to red, rose, dark gray, light gray, dark brown, etc. Check online ('black terra cotta pots') and you'll find lots of beautiful shapes, shades, and sizes. Good luck! Glad you're here!
Hi Danette! Tiling on a curved surface takes practice. Keep at it! If you love the design you came up with then try it again. Experiment. The beauty of mosaic art is that it isn't perfect. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Julie. I shree Moni Das from Guwahati Assam India. I am an Interior and Exterior Designer. I Mosaic design. I want to purchase Mosaic Materials. So where I will get Materials.
Hi Moni Das! Check out this video which will tell you 25 different places where you can find mosaic tesserae: ua-cam.com/video/u4UEVrlJxCA/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Your videos are my favorite. I think I relate to you the best. I am brand new at doing this too! You make it easy for me to understand 🥰💜

Hi Rose, love your idea of a pink flowering plant in this pot. So preppy! Thanks for watching!

How long do you wait to grout and how long do you wait to use the paper towel to remove the grout?
Hi Julie. I love tour videos and they have helped me alot. I have a bamboo planter want to do indoors plants but I want to do something with mosiac and pepples etc. Also can I skip the grout and if yes what should I do.
Thankyou
I don’t see a source for the penetrating sealer you used. Thank you, your video was very helpful!

Love the intro
Thanks so much Buddy!
What kind of a cutter is that? I have a bunch of broken crockery to cut up into mosaics

Can you please say what did you use for sealing? Thank you
Hi Dalia! Here's a video link for how I seal mosaic art. All of the items I use in the video, including the sealer, are linked below in the description. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Thank you for these video's! Is a sealant still necessary when I would use Mapei grout? It says it's water and mold resistant.
Hi Lily&River! Awww, it's great to hear you're enjoying my videos.😊 If I'm making a mosaic for outdoors, I always seal it regardless of my grout or cement-based adhesive says on the label. How long do I have to wait to grout? I want to be able to complete the process within 2 hours. Is that possible?
Link to fortified group is broken. What product do you recommend?
Hi Naomi! Thanks for the heads-up!🙌 The link is fixed. LOTS of colors to choose from. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥

Do you ever make a mosaic saucer to match?
Hi P Marlowe! You certainly can. You’d just have a more shallow dish to collect any run-off water from your plant. You would go about it the same way you would a flower pot…use fortified thin set mortar as your adhesive, and you could even use it for the grout. Glad you’re here!
Our there non pores clay pots?

I tried to create a fun Mosaic on my terracotta pot and it looks terrible. I'm trying to add a picture of it.
