Love this video, I was coloring with acrylic paint and now understand many things. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m very happy that I found your channel ❤
Hi Julie; love your videos! Suggestion/request : could you show the various ways of cutting plates and cups? Considering the various styles and types available, some with curves, ridges, feet, bumps and lumps, seeing how you manoeuvre in cutting and shaping each would be so helpful. Thank you.
Hi Diane! Thanks so much for watching! It's great to hear you're enjoying my videos. And thank you for the video idea. It's on my list! 😉 Keep creating and I'm glad you're here! 🙌
Thanks for the tips Julie! I was wondering how to color grout and now I know! I will try the acrylic paint method. I will let you know how it turns out.
@@JulieWeilbacher I've used the acrylic paint method and it worries me because I think it maybe weakens the overall chemical structure of the grout. I don't know if that's true or not
Excellent pointers; ever tried staining grout after it's dried? Makes it possible to use multiple grout shades and colors within one project. Personally I like permanent markers prior to sealing the grout.....( I actually should have said prior to sealing because I think you would have trouble adhering the marker over sealed work. My apologies.)
Hi Thorn! Thanks for watching, and great to hear you enjoyed it. Yes, I've stained grout before. I don't like the look as much but it's helped in certain situations. Now permanent marker is interesting. Are you doing large areas with the markers? Does it 'run' during sealing, or fade once the sealer has dried? Thanks for sharing your experience. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Hi Brigitte! I'm so happy you found my channel too! Welcome!🙌 Mica powders won't work in the grout. It would be a waste of money. If you decide to seal your grout once it's cured, you could try mixing the mica powder with the sealer (how to seal mosaic art: ua-cam.com/video/5JqZU5ucM_k/v-deo.html). You're better off using one of the methods from the video. They're tried and true. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Splendid, as usual! I have already put the grout on my mosaic, can I paint it the color I want, because I don't like the color of the grout very much? Thank you so much!
Hi A E! Welcome to the world of mosaic! Great to hear you're enjoying my videos and getting value from them. Let me know if there's a particular video you'd like to see...I'm always taking requests. Have you made your first mosaic yet? I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hello, I have a question for you can you use latex paint to mix into grout? I am curious because I have a little sample thing of blue paint (I think it’s matte), and was curious if I can use it to mix into grout to change the color. I’m trying to do like an ombré effect with the grout for a mosaic piece I’m going to be making. So any advice or tips on how I can possibly achieve this will be much appreciated.
Hi Marion! Yes, you can tint pre-made grout. However, the consistency might be a bit 'off'....in other words it might get a little runny. I would keep a small bag of dry grout in your studio to drizzle in if that happens. They sell small (7lb boxes) of grout. Have fun!
Hi Julie, this is Casandra from MA. Thanks so much to your videos I am getting a ton of FREE stained glass this week. I called a stained glass store and she is retiring so she is happily giving it away to me. I pray will be a lot of colors. So excited! So my question is, can I use WHITE thin set as an adhesive for stained glass and then use gray thin set as a grout?
Hi Cassandra! WOW!!! Major score! Pun intended.🤣 Yes you can use white thinset as adhesive and gray thinset as grout. Sounds like you’re going to keep busy this summer. Enjoy! Keep creating and I’m thankful you’re here!🙌
Hi Laura! Oxides are my all-around go-to for coloring grout & thinset. There’s a link for oxides in the description if you’d like to read up more about them. Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here!🔥

Hi Julie, if I am using a premade steppingstone from a big box store do I seal the stone BEFORE or AFTER I start the stone? I’m a bit confused as to whether I am sealing the stone or the grout. If I use the adhesive and grout combo do I need to seal?
Hi Skiddle DeDe! You are sealing the grout on a stepping stone. Also, use a fortified cement-based adhesive. Check out these 2 videos which should help you: ua-cam.com/video/JYE1Vt-FFGA/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/5JqZU5ucM_k/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I'm finding thinset only in white and grey. Darn, I was hoping to find black. So for all your black thinset applications, using it as mortar to set your tessera and also using it as your grout, you add the black oxide?
Hi Dixie Bell! That's right, and you can see it all come together in this video: ua-cam.com/video/dDradvqF7Vc/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Cathleen! You can set a timer on your phone, oven, or clock to make sure you haven't gone over. As time goes on you'll notice the grout or thinset loses moisture and starts to become harder, sometimes to the point of crumbly. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hhmmmm, Kool-aid.....never. It's food-based, plus there's so many other great/better options. Food coloring might produce a pastel/muted tone. And Rit Dye is an interesting thought. It's hightly pigmented,....but I'm not sure that would translate once mixed with grout. You've got me thinking now! We might need to do a part 2 video.😉 Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!

Hi Shelly! Great question.....and honestly, I'm not sure. I've never worked with quick dry paint. My suggestion would be to do a test first before working with your actual mosaic. I would tile a small (read: simple) mosaic 4x4 or smaller, grout it, and then watch it over the next few days or so to see how the grout reacts. Does it crack or shrink? Is the color what you want? Then you can confidently proceed. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here! 🔥

Hi. I do a little alcohol ink painting.... I love it, but it fades in light over time. I don't know how well it would color grout or thinset. I haven't tried it. But I would be concerned alcohol ink would fade with UV light exposure.
Hi KMF! TBH, I haven't tried any of the 3 you mentioned. However, after this video came out I had folks reach out to me to discuss their experience with using them and they were disappointed. A muted color was the biggest complaint. Maybe I need to do a little experimenting of my own and report back!🤔 Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🌟
