Julie, I wasn't going to even consider sealing my mosaic gazing ball, until today. While finishing up my 3rd one, I looked at my 1st one. Some of the mirror pieces turned red. What? So I will seal this one. Yours is the only tutorial for sealing mosaic so far. Way to go!
Hi Tonya! Wow, you’re on a roll with your gazing balls. Pun intended!😉 I’m sorry to hear some of your mirror pieces have discolored. That’s frustrating for sure. Now you know that sealing outdoor mosaics is an easy ‘insurance policy’ for your pieces. Glad you’re here!🙌

Hi Julie, I read your reply to Shrvani about using the resin. A resin artist I spoke to recently said that resin has been used as a final coat on mosaics for a long time (??). After the conversation I used a resin coat on a piece of finished work. I had already used a grout sealer. I actually liked the impact of the resin. I appreciated Shrvani's question and further wonder what you think of using resin after grout-sealing. I really enjoy your tutorials and it is all so helpful when continuing on the road of doing mosaics.
Hi Trish! Thank you for your kind words about my videos. I'm glad they're helpful and you're finding value in them. I've been using resin over mosaic art for 15ish years. I love it and hate it. It's a gorgeous look, but a pain to work with if it gets anywhere but exactly where you want it to be. There's absolutely no forgiveness. I've never used resin on a sealed mosaic. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I appreciate your videos. I started mosaics about 10 years ago and never seem to find anyone breaking it down. My first piece is a table top and I did a butterfly pattern. I still have it. Anyway,. I am so glad in how I did the sealant, was correct. Thank you again.😁
Hi Elizabeth! Thank you for your kind words. Great to hear you enjoyed the video. And yay you! for doing your sealant correctly! 🙌 Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!
Thank you for this video. I have searched everywhere to find out what to use because i'm about to try my luck making a glazing ball. This was very detailed. Just what I have been looking for.
Okay Julie...forget my first comment on another video I just watched. I found this one regarding sealing my outdoor mosaic. My mistake were many and who knows how long my four year pool surround project will last. So far it's lasted seven years. I will be 'trying to Muriactic Acid' the grout in sections; let it dry and then seal it all and rub off the sealer on the glass tiles. It will be a ton of hot, hard, work, but it is a masterpiece and I want it to last as long as it can. For my new wall pieces in a different house, I will do things much differently, thanks to you. Linda
This is brilliant, you just answered my questions. I made some mosaic pieces for inside a few years ago and never sealed them, but worried if I should have, but they have been fine. I'm now making another piece that someone wants to buy off me and I didn't know if i should be sealing it or not. It's going inside in her bedroom so I won't bother. Thank you .
So glad I found you and your videos! Mosaic art fascinates me! My son is a Roman archaeologist and I've had the chance to view many ancient Roman mosaics- unbelievable! I can't wait to get started in this art. First question, when using an already made paver from the gardening store, do I have to pretreat the paver in anyway or just get started with the design and thinset ?
Hi Pamela KOH! I'm so glad you found me too!😊 Welcome! You are correct...when using a store-bought paver, roughly wipe or sweep it off and then get started with your thinset and tesserae. I think this video will be helpful to you: ua-cam.com/video/JYE1Vt-FFGA/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thanks Julie! This video came at the perfect time! The concrete steppingstone waiting to fully cure then I will seal the concrete , wait a few days. Then seal my Stainglass separately over mesh for added protection, then attach mosaic mesh, then I will grout and seal as you’ve instructed.
Yay Minnie! You’re moving right along and have a plan! Excellent! Let me know if you post it (please tag me on Instagram - julieweilbacher). I’d love to see your masterpiece!😍
Hi Julie! Great video. I've only ever done outdoor mosaics and yes, I seal them all. Two projects are outdoor benches that are permanent structures so I could not bring them inside to do the project and simply needed to wait the requisite curing times for thin set mortar and grout before I could seal, cross fingers for no dust storms, bird fly-overs or rain storms. So far I've been lucky!
Hi DrTammyPenhollow! Sealing outdoor mosaic projects is always a good idea!🙌 I'm sure your benches are beautiful! Keep creating and I'm so thankful you're here!🔥
Does coating the tiles and grout with grout sealer leave the tiles with a glossed finish? I am making a chessboard with mosaic tiles and grout, I want to seal it all together and have been weighing up different options. Epoxy resin is looking very difficult so I'm wondering if I can achieve a glossy & 'pulled together' look with grout sealer.
Hi Nancy! Awww, thanks for your kind words. It's great to hear you're enjoying my videos. Brrrr Montana!❄ Use tesserae that can endure freeze/thaw conditions...that goes for your substrate too. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thank you, this was very helpful. I just finished my first mosaic project and wasn’t sure if it should be sealed and how it should be done if I decided to seal it.
Hi Beth! I'm glad you got value from the video. And how exciting that you just finished your first mosaic!!🙌 What did you make? Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Hi DiamondGirl! Sounds like you’re just across Alligator Alley. It’s great to hear you’re getting value from my videos.😊 Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here.⚡️
Hi ! I loved your video. Wanted to ask ... Once I have applied the first coat of sealant, how much time should I wait to wipe it ? And with what should I wipe it ? Thank you so much. Waiting for your reply ☺️
Hi Mrinalini! I apply the sealer, and then immediately clean off the tesserae. You aren't wiping off the sealer from the grout. That immediately starts penetrating the grout. But it's the tesserae that need cleaning off because otherwise the sealer will just sit on top of it. Not a good look! To wipe off the tesserae you could use paper towels, an old t-shirt, or an old towel. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I think you answered a question that nobody else has directly, or indirectly, addressed: "Can I use my thin set (Mapei Mosaic Glass Tile Mortar) as a grout?" From what you said, it seems that I can . So then, my next question is: Should I use sealer on it? Again, it sounds like I can & should. (My application is a mosaic glass backsplash, in a kitchen. I've asked several tile pros on here and got no answers)
Hi David! Yes, you can definitely grout with thinset. You can even tint or color it (ua-cam.com/video/Qp_QnPTy3_Y/v-deo.html). I ALWAYS seal *grout* that will be subjected to water, weather, mold, mildew....those sorts of environments. A kitchen backsplash, especially near the sink, would fall into that category for me. And I ALWAYS use a fortified thinset as well. Good luck with your project!! Keep creating and I'm glad you're here! 🔥
Hi Julie! I really like your videos, your explainations are clear and simple. The only thing that gives me a hard time is the music. To my opinion, it's too loud and that type of music is useally for non-verbal video. My question is: Can I add sand to my unsanded grout? Thank you!
@@JulieWeilbacher Thank you for your interest. I am using concrete (for the first time 👀). I poured it in a flat aluminium container (like for bbq) and I decorated them with tiles and some glas nuggets.
QQQ - I've made a design on web mesh which I will attach to cement pavers. Do I need to seal the cement pavers BEFORE I adhear the pattern mesh and mosaics???
Julie, my wife, and I created a mosaic top for a small outdoor table. After listening to this video we will definitely apply a penetrating sealer. Shouldn't we also use a membrane sealer if the table will have glasses, etc placed on it and be exposed to strong sun? Thanks in advance for your guidance!
Thank you so much for your nice and useful videos. I’ve recently started this artwork and have found it really fascinating. I prepared the stained glasses from Amazon that is not so affordable. Would you please let me know where can I find inexpensive stained glass? I live in Toronto, Canada.
Hi Maryam! Thank you for your kind words. That’s great to hear my videos are helping you out in your mosaic journey. Mosaic can be quite addicting!🙌 Stained glass is expensive, and there’s really no way around it unfortunately. Wish there was. Some stained glass stores may have sales throughout the year so I’d check with your favorite online supplier or local store. Glad you’re here!
Hi there , I read your comment and want to add that I've heard that stained glass supply stores often sell off cuts for a bulk price by weight , I'm in Ontario and there are alot.of s.g. supply shops , good.luck.to.you!
Hello Julie Your video came on very right time to me. I am trying my first glass mosaic on wooden base. It will stay indoor all the time, but weather would be very dry, almost 6-7 months in year, do you really think i shall go for sealing to avoid cracks, etc because of weather conditions?
Hi Sandeep! I would seal the wood. You mentioned you're in a climate that's dry 6-7 months out of the year....but what about the other months? Sealing wood for mosaic a great habit to get into and no matter where your mosaic is (hey, you might move to a more humid climate one day!), you'll know that the mosaic shouldn't have any issues. When starting a new mosaic project, ask yourself, what can I do for my mosaic that will help it last a very long time? Do those things and you'll have many, many years of enjoyment from your mosaic. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌
So informative. Thank you. I also just watched your video of resin sealing. Question: How does one seal an outdoor project? The grout sealer doesn't sound right as it will dull the tesserae, but the resin doesn't sound right as this is a 3D piece I'm doing and the resin would run all over. Any ideas? Thanks!
Hi Sandy! The sun/outdoor environment causes resin to yellow over time. So you’ll want to look for a resin that’s specifically for outdoor use. As for applying resin to a 3D piece?🙈 I can’t imagine that going well, plus it would be very frustrating. Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here!🔥
Hi zumbalauren1! I would get an attachment for your drill (amzn.to/3ROuyU3), mix up the grout, and go to town! FUN!! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I looking for more info on sealing your tesserae before you adhere them with thin set. I understand there’s different sealers for natural stones before you can use them, but what about low-fired ceramic tiles, etc. I’m trying to utilize my own pottery pieces and shards into my mosaic projects. What can I seal them with to prep them for use? I’ve seen some ceramic/porcelain/cement sealer. Would that work? And is there anything else besides white glue to seal wood for light use outside? I’m generally of the opinion that everything I make should be able to withstand being in my tropical but mercurial climate here in New Orleans, even if it’s only used indoors 😂. Am I going into overkill sealing everything? Or will the thinset and grout generally seal everything? I already use the most fortified thinset and grout with sealer.
Hi Jeannine! For the substrate, you don't want to use wood for outdoor mosaics. It expands and contracts which can mean trouble for your mosaic artwork. As for sealing your tesserae, if it's glazed are you asking about painting it with another product? I would first look at the glaze container you used on the tile to see what it says about acceptable environment conditions after firing. If you do decide to paint on a ceramic sealer, make sure it's acceptable for outdoors. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!⭐
Hi Anja! You want to be careful when sealing natural stone. You want to get a sealer specifically for natural stone. And usually, the sealer will make your stone 'shiny' once sealed. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Hi Jill! Yes, there are 'green' grout sealers. You'll want to make sure your grout sealer is labeled non-toxic, low VOC. I'm not sure how they compare long-term to traditional grout sealers. You might find that you need to apply more coats or re-apply annually. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here! 🙌
Hi Teresa, I have a few videos where I tile on a vertical surface. I use painter's tape to keep everything in place while it dries/cures. Here's a recent video example: ua-cam.com/video/poy9lXKX-4c/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🎄
I was wondering I can grout one of my pieces without messing up the natural stone? I am thinking chalk paint wax sealer? Just so I can get the grout off without ruining the rocks and stones. Do u have any suggestions? Tysm for all of your amazing videos!
Hi Jennifer! Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you're enjoying my videos.😊 I've never used that product but I suggest doing a test to see how it handles the grouting. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Hi there! It's best to use sealer on fresh (read: new) grout. You can certainly try to clean the grout before sealing. Keep in mind, if you apply sealer on old grout, you'll seal in whatever's on it, permanently....dirt, oil, etc. If you don't care about that and you're just trying to protect the life of the mosaic then yes, you can apply sealer. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Thank you for your time. Just started mosaic. I did a coaster but the pattern was not noticeable. Should i use bigger size tiles for the pattern than what i am using on thw coaster? Where did i go wrong?
Hi Janice! First of all, welcome to the world of mosaic! You're doing great!🙌 Now regarding your coaster, it's hard to say since I haven't seen your finished piece. But a few things come to mind. It's important to make sure there's enough contrast between your tesserae and grout/background. And yes, as you mentioned, sometimes when you use really small tesserae the design can get lost, especially if the pieces are far apart and there's not enough contrast to the grout/background. With these things in mind, take a different approach to your next mosaic. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!
Hello! Thank you for your video. Very informative. We are doing an outdoor mosaic project in south Florida. At a community garden we are placing mosaics on top of concrete seats. We have been told to use Fusion Pro Single Component Grout (already mixed) which says “ready to use - never needs sealing” but after watching your video, I’m thinking that we should go ahead and seal it anyway. As it can’t hurt to give it an extra layer of protection as it will be exposed to high traffic, dust, soil, rain, and who knows what more. What do you think?
Hi Elsi! Thanks for your kind words about the video. I'm in South Florida too (Miami!) so I know how careful you need to be with your outdoor mosaic project. I haven't used the pre-mixed grout you're referencing, but yes, the manufacturer does state it never needs sealing. Yet, we know South Florida weather. I would suggest doing a sample test using the pre-mixed grout, and then once fully cured, try sealing it. It may be that the grout won't allow the sealer to soak in/penetrate at all. Good luck! Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Hi Judith! Great to hear you enjoyed the video!😊 For a table substrate you could use wood if there's sufficient support under it AND it won't be kept outdoors. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi! Thank you! Love your videos! My sister and I are doing an outside ceramic tile shower pad 36x56. Although we are designing it indoors we have to take it outside to adhere it to the cement pad. We will grout after the thinset is cured. Can we cover it with a plastic drop cloth tent to protect it from the elements without creating more humidity and interfering with the thinset drying? (We are in Cocoa Beach so the same humidity as Miami.)Then if the thinset can cure being covered in plastic, if we make a plastic tent over the shower pad after we seal it will it cure in 3 days or take longer because it’s tented in plastic and exposed to the humidity outside? I know it’s ideal to seal indoors but with this project it’s impossible. 🤷♀️ Any feedback you can give us is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
Hi Mary! Thanks for your kind words, and great to hear you're enjoying my videos.😊 Yes, you can cover the mosaic outdoors. And actually, it'll help the thinset & grout cure more evenly (reducing the likelihood of cracking).....it just might take a little longer than normal. Sounds like a fun project!! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Kim! You would prepare and grout with thinset mortar the same way you would prepare and grout with traditional grout. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Hi Ana! Make sure you cover the back of your tesserae completely with your adhesive. I use all sorts of tesserae. I love 'em all! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Julie. Still quite new to mosaic art. What can i use instead of putting grout over the glued-down tiles.? The grout is so messy...at least it is when i do it!! Can i just use glue or stick the tiles onto my artwork? Thank you!
Hi ladylinda ives! If you don't enjoy grouting....then don't grout.😮 You might want to adjust your 'groutline' between your tesserae but you absolutely don't have to grout. I've made plenty of mosaic pieces and didn't grout them. Here are a couple example videos: ua-cam.com/video/0Jn9tfPvW7A/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/gajzI5MGryc/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi, I am starting a project to cover a concrete wall and seating area with a mosaic, obviously it cannot be moved inside, what would you recommend to seal it?
Thanks for the video. Hey, I see there's a product- Miracle sealer, for tile, grout, & stone. What about a product that seals all the elements of your mosaic? Have you tried such products?
Hi there! You can cover your grout and tesserae with resin. This video demonstrates how I did it >> ua-cam.com/video/E2FxP5WKcD4/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!⚡
Hi Shravani! Resin is a permanent layer (or sealer) over your entire mosaic. Grout sealant is just for your grout....you wipe off any excess from your tesserae. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Julie I am ready to start mosaic. I’m a crafter and this is the first time doing mosaic. My craft room is ready for doing mosaics. I’m a little nervous starting this. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Linda! Ohhh how exciting!!!!🤗 I've got a video for you to watch to get you started: ua-cam.com/video/JRJWNsBUTho/v-deo.html. Do you have a project in mind? I've got lots of tool and project tutorials for you here on my channel. You got this! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Judith! YES, absolutely! You'll definitely want to seal your grout (or if you're grouting with thinset) for an outdoor project. Do everything you can to prolong the life of your outdoor mosaics. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Barb! The sealers I mentioned in the video (and listed in the description below the video) work great with glass. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Elize! Yes, in general, if your stepping stones have been outside for a long time it's probably too late to seal them. Ideally, you want to seal the grout when it's 'fresh' and hasn't been exposed to the elements outdoors. HOWEVER....here is an option: you could clean the grout as best you can, and then seal them. I can't guarantee the outcome in the long-run, but they'd look better in the short-term and have a sealer on the grout. Remember, the sealer will 'seal in' whatever is on the grout. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Mrinalini! Hmmm, I've never used varnish on my mosaic work. I always stick with grout sealer. If you want to go down that route, I would create a sample mosaic (very basic), including grout, and then paint it with the sealer. See if you like it. I'm not sure how it will age over time. I'd love to hear the result! Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Question: what if you didn’t wipe the sealant off the tesserae and there’s a film over the whole piece. Is there a way to remove sealant from tesserae? Thanks
Hi Katie! There are a couple things you could try. The first would be regular (white/clear) vinegar. Just rub it over the tesserae and not the grout. If that doesn't work try a grout haze remover. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Tina! I would just seal the mosaic area and any surrounding grout/thinset. Let the rest of the rock alone. Do what you can to protect your artwork. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
I am making a mosaic on part of a table top. I don't want the top of the table to be bumpy. What kind of product can I use that would form a thick clear layer over everything so that there is a level shiny surface on top?
Hi rubyaj6! What you're looking for is resin. It's self-leveling and forms a clear, hard shiny coat once fully cured. Here's a video where I explain all about it: ua-cam.com/video/E2FxP5WKcD4/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Patsy! Use an adhesive specifically for mirror, and make sure you cover the cut sides of your mirror with the adhesive. Then after grouting, your grout sealer shouldn't bother the mirror. Yes, you can wipe it off with a paper towel. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Tina! I seal all mosaics that will be placed outdoors. I live in hot + humid Miami and have had great success in doing this with my outdoor pieces. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Have you found any sealant that is designed to protect against the sun, i.e. UV light? I use colored grout and some grouts, especially the reds, fade very easily from the sun. None of them offer UV protection that I can find. I've even called a few manufacturers to no avail. thank you.
Hi S Paul! I haven't seen any sealers that specifically protect against UV light. That's a toughie. I'm sure 'someone' must be working on it though, especially with climate change. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here. 🙌
Hi Linda! Varnish as sealer? Hmmmm, I don't have any experience doing that. What kind of varnish? Water-based? Oil-based? Obviously it's permanent, but I don't know how it will age over time. Now I'm curious. I just use grout sealer on my outdoor projects. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Been using Liquitex Acrylic varnish (Paint on cause I have more control) or Rustoleum spray varnish. It seems to work fine I have a few pieces outside for a long time and they are holding up just fine. No color changes.
Hi L & A Gaming! There are grout sealers specifically for matte tile. As per the Winckelman's website, they do recommend the tiles be protected from staining. I would check directly with Winckelman's to see what brand they recommend. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Hi Paula! You can let the sealer sit for about 10 minutes and then you need to wipe off the excess. So if you're working on a larger project, apply your sealer in smaller sections. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Thanks for your video! I'm being hired to repair some outdoor, glass tess mosaic eggs. Pieces have fallen off and I am considering using an epoxy grout (Mapei Kerapoxy) instead of the regular, sanded grout (Mapei ultracolor plus). Any thoughts on this? Thanks so much, Julie!
Hi Paula! Check out the description below the video to see the list of everything I used, including specific brands. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Someone told me that I can use Liquitex Professional Varnish (Gloss or Matte) on my grouted mosaics....by just varnishing over the entire mosaic. Is that true? Would that seal the grout? Thank you
Hi Michelle! The Liquidtex products you're referencing are water soluble...which means they won't do a thing to protect your grout in the outdoor environment. And we can't have that!🙈 Stick with grout sealers to ensure you're doing all you can to effectively protect your grout. Keep creating and I'm so thankful you're here!🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher thanks for such a quick reply Julie. The mosaic is for indoors only. Is there any benefit in varnishing it if it will always be indoors?
@@michellelalonde4918 Hi Michelle! The only time I seal mosaics for indoors is if there's a chance they'll come in contact with moisture or food splatter. Otherwise, I grout and I'm done. My indoor mosaics don't need anything else done to them.
How about a birdbath, that you used the wrong type of grout on - it says 'don't use on items submerged in water!!! read that too late, can I save this birthbath???
Hi kristianlewis576! Grout sealant will usually roll off your tesserae (as long as it's glazed). If it's not glazed then the sealant will soak into your tesserae. Buuuuut, it may not completely roll off your glazed tesserae therefore it would dry on top and create an unfortunate spotty coating. If you want to completely seal your mosaic then resin would be the option of choice. You can watch that video here >> ua-cam.com/video/E2FxP5WKcD4/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Hi Pamela KOH! I'm so glad you found me too!😊 Welcome! You are correct...when using a store-bought paver, roughly wipe or sweep it off and then get started with your thinset and tesserae.

@@paulagreco1472 Hi Paula! Everything is listed in the description portion of the video.
I love your videos . Thanks. Any advice for outdoor mosaics inn extreme Eastern Montana cold?
Hi Nancy! Awww, thanks for your kind words. It's great to hear you're enjoying my videos. Brrrr Montana!❄ Use tesserae that can endure freeze/thaw conditions...that goes for your substrate too. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

can you please tell me whether i should seal the grout in a big bathroom mosaic BEFORE or after painting the grout lines ?
Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I think you answered a question that nobody else has directly, or indirectly, addressed:
"Can I use my thin set (Mapei Mosaic Glass Tile Mortar) as a grout?"
From what you said, it seems that I can .
So then, my next question is:
Should I use sealer on it?

Hello Julie
Your video came on very right time to me.
Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here!🔥
Would you need to seal grout for a house plant pot?
my Dark black grout got a white- ish coating- ugh- it was an older bottle of floor grout sealer.
Hello. Can I apply the penetrating sealant if my outdoor mosaic is made of unglazed tiles and porcelain?
Julie, I created a 12" garden orb. Would you recommend using a spray grout or another method? Thanks--love what you say!

@@JulieWeilbacher I am asking about sealing the grout. I am wondering about using a spray sealant.
@@laurensingerdance This video will help you with how to seal your grout (ua-cam.com/video/5JqZU5ucM_k/v-deo.html).
I’m generally of
the opinion that everything I make should be able to withstand being in my tropical but mercurial climate here in New Orleans, even if it’s only used indoors 😂.
Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!⭐
Hallo Julie, can I seal also on a natural stone? I have different small mosaic parts on a big stone. Thanks you.
Hi Anja! You want to be careful when sealing natural stone. You want to get a sealer specifically for natural stone. And usually, the sealer will make your stone 'shiny' once sealed. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
What would be the best sealer for a bird bath? Is there a sealer that is non-toxic? TIA!
I sealed a mosaic piece and it has been outside for 5 years. Do I need to reseal it? What is the life expectancy of most sealants?
Julie, I'm going to be doing some mosaic on a vertical surface. I couldn't find that on your channel. Can you direct me?
Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
Hi there. Great video. Would you use the same sealant/process on a really old (over 50 years old) tile coffee table?
Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Thanks so much!@@JulieWeilbacher
what if you have an installation outdoors? how would you go about applying the sealer then? cover it for a few days?
Hi Adel Ben David! Yes, you could cover it for a day or two until it's fully dry. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌
Thank you for your time.
Good luck! Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Hi that was helpful. I want to mosaic a table top but not sure what to use for the base. Can I use wood? Thanks Judith

Any feedback you can give us is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
Update! Found a grout product that does not require sealing!
Hi Mary! Thanks for your kind words, and great to hear you're enjoying my videos.😊 Yes, you can cover the mosaic outdoors. So, if the steppingstones were outside for a long time, it would be too late for sealing..??
Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Julie, can I apply a coat of varnish on my mosaic instead of sealant? Thank u
Hi Mrinalini! Hmmm, I've never used varnish on my mosaic work. I always stick with grout sealer. Question: what if you didn’t wipe the sealant off the tesserae and there’s a film over the whole piece. Is there a way to remove sealant from tesserae? Thanks

Why can’t you put the sealant over the entire piece? How come it just goes on the grout?
Hi kristianlewis576! Grout sealant will usually roll off your tesserae (as long as it's glazed). If it's not glazed then the sealant will soak into your tesserae.
