Hi KB! Awww, thanks so much!😊 Great to hear you enjoyed the video and got value from it. There are so many FREE mosaic materials out there.....waiting for you!! What's the first mosaic you want to make? I'm thankful you're here!🔥
I am new to making mosaics, but I have done several tile floors. I found that my local tile store has a warehouse where they keep leftovers and odd-ends. I have purchased several small lots there, and maybe your local tile company has a warehouse also.
Hi Michael! Absolutely! Great tip! Local tile stores are more likely to work with you on getting rid of damaged or low/discontinued stock at a deep discount. AND, often many of those stores have a nicer selection of tesserae to choose from. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Thank you so much for your tips!! I asked my granddaughter to pick something to do today. She asked if we could go to the mall and paint ceramic. I just watched your video last night. On the way there I was like 😳😳😳 omg I could check to see if they have pieces that weren’t of any use to them. She asked for my number and will have her manager call me. I haven’t even started mosaic glass on glass yet. My first class is in three weeks. Thank you again.
Hi , I LOVE your helpful and creative videos! You give me inspiration! Ty so much for making them❤️You are so helpful, a lot of places sell and show you how to use the tools (basic) but you show us how to use, maintain them and what they are capable of! Ty so much! I enjoy watching your videos❤️❤️❤️
Hi Cathy! Thanks for your kind words! Great to hear you're enjoying the videos and are getting some useful information from them. As I say in every video, whatever I can do to shorten your learning curve. You got this! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Tina! Awww, thanks so much! It's great to hear you enjoyed the video and maybe discovered some new places to check!?! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thank you Julie for this informative list where to get material. I mostly get mine from garage sales, thrift shops, stained glass leftover material bins; estate sales and etsy. Amazon in a pinch. You have given me some great ideas to further my search. I love your videos.
Hi Jan! Awww, great to hear you're enjoying my videos.😊 What a great list! You sound like an experienced shopper! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌
Thanks, nice to have information from a source that is proven. Growing up, dad was a brick, tile person as a mason/tilesetter. Love potential to make something from throwaway stuff, thanks, I am anxious to get started after I finish other must do home projects. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Hi Kate! I'm so glad you're getting value from my videos.😊 Let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like to see in a video. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
This video convinced me to subscribe. U didn’t miss a step! I am a potter and starting to make tiles for my future mosaics, in which I am a novice). we can u tell me if 1/8 tile is problematic in cutting as opposed to 1/4? What about 3/8? Thoroughly enjoyed this video - very comprehensive
Thank you Wendy! I'm so glad you enjoyed it and subscribed. The thinner the tile, the easier it will be to cut. However, really thin tile can be a challenge because it could crumble when cut. GREAT to hear you're starting in mosaic! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!
Sometimes schools get huge boxes of tiles, but here in S. Fla I’ve definitely done well with my local time store! Shells are another popular one that people loooove to give away, I had so many boxes of shells I didn’t know what to do!
Hi Danica! Interesting about schools getting so much tile.🤔 Wow! Who knew?!? Yes, local tile stores are a real treasure trove. Have you made any shell mosaics? Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
So very grateful for this information! I am on the hunt for supplies which is half the fun of creating! So grateful for your willingness to share and care! BRAVO!
Hi Diane! It's great to hear you enjoyed the video. I totally agree that the hunt for tesserae is half the fun. You've got lots of great options in this video. Whatever I can do to help shorten the learning curve.🙌 We all want to get to the good stuff of mosaic making! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I bought a Mexican talavera sink and it was chipped. I decided to break it down, but the tiles are very thick. How do I further break down the thickness of the tiles?
I have worked at a big box retailer that sells tile. They won't give it away because it's part of the inventory--they have to strike it from inventory and throw it away. HOWEVER, they can mark it down to perhaps a couple of cents and sell it. It doesn't hurt to ask.
Hi Mary! Yes, that's been my experience too! It even works at large home accessories box stores....especially if the items are so banged up and broken. It doesn't hurt to ask! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Flowerbug55! YAY! Great to hear you enjoyed it. You can always re-watch the video, or pause in between to take notes. I love hearing stories of how viewers have obtained materials after watching this video. There's so much good stuff out there for us!😊 Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
I worry about lead in thrift store items, especially the old pieces.. is there a way to protect against that or check to make sure the clay/item doesn't have high levels of lead?
Hi Mari! Thank you for your kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and hopefully you found some new places to *shop* for tesserae. Keep creating and I’m thankful you’re here!🔥
You are absolutely awesome! Thank you , thank you , thank you. I’ve made a list and going to see all of them one by one. I live in Toronto, Canada and I hope I can find those resources here. 😘🥰
Have you ever done any talavera tile projects? I love the brightly colored Mexican tiles, which you can find online, and have made some beautiful pots and table tops using this tile.
Hi Loretta! Talavera tiles are beautiful, and unique. I made a mosaic using these pieces many, many years ago. So fun! Keep creating and glad you're here!
I just bought some Talavera tiles🥰. I was going to use them for these stepping stones, but now I have second thoughts as I don't know if they're suitable for outdoors 😕
I got talavera seconds from CA. I was not worried about broken or chipped tiles as I was going to break them anyway. The shipping for quality tiles is VERY expensive because of the weight. I got an outdoor bistro table (I picked it up on trash day as it had a broken glass top), made a marine wood circle for a top, sprayed it green and use talavera tiles to mosaic it. Looks great and I get tons of compliments on it. Only problem was DH saw me working and took over...... .
I found a gold mine of polished marble 12X12, at a marble and granite slab (countertops) distribution supplier. I've been out of the industry for a while, and now apparently those tiles are OUT of style in the hard surface floor covering industry. I'm getting them, for around $2-$3 per square foot. Which is actually a great price. I'm currently starting a mosaic company, because I don't want to work on my knees anymore. So this place is serving me well. I'm just afraid that corporate of this company is going to say, you know... let's get all that old marble tile out of there, and create space Apparently, I am the only one who has bought marble tile off of them, in like over 10 years. It's A LOT too. I'm going there soon to access everything they have.
Hi I’m a 72 year old women who works with stain glass and want to do mosaic projects I have so much pieces of glass from other projects how can I save your videos. Your are a great teacher so calm and informative my only problem I feel so inept on a computer if you could respond and what state is your studio?
Hi Dora! Thank you for your kind words.😊 I'm happy to hear you're enjoying my videos and getting value from them. To save videos you can click 'save' under the video to the right, and then a pop-up will display and you'll click on whichever playlist you'd like to add them to. My studio is in Miami. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thank you for this video. I am new to mosaics. I quickly found out that I could not afford to buy stained glass. However, I found old castoff plate glass windows which I underpaint and then cut up to make my mosaics. I can make all kinds of colours and they have turned out great. I've even made a huge kitchen backsplash for a client. Wish I could show you.
Hi Wally! WOW! You're so resourceful! That's fantastic that you're making your own tesserae!! If you've posted any of your pieces to Instagram feel free to tag me (@julieweilbacher). I'd love to see them! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌
I am new to mosaic and have practically only a handful of material. I ended up having to take an early retirement from teaching (back surgeries) and found myself needing something to fill in my time. Anytime you want have any materials you wanting to get rid of please think of me. I'll take whatever I can.
Hi there! Congrats on your (early) retirement and I hope you're feeling good! As for any extra mosaic tesserae and substrates, I'm planning to go through my studio and clean out some stuff later this year and I'll let my email list know FIRST before anyone else. To sign-up >> eepurl.com/wAmfn.⚡
I tried to sign up on the link you sent, but I got this message: This service is no longer available for public use. We made this change in order to protect the reputation of the domain and high deliverability rates for Mailchimp customers who use EepURLs in their campaigns. So I'm unable to sign up. What can I do to get on your email list?
Hi Amabile! Welcome to my channel! It's great to hear you're enjoying my videos.🙌 Let me know if there's something you'd like me to cover in a future video. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thanks so much! It's great to hear you enjoyed it. As mosaicists we're lucky to have so many options for materials. Have fun and keep creating! Glad you're here!
Hi Carolina! Awwww, great to hear you enjoyed the video.😊 There are LOTS of options out there just waiting for you. How exciting is that?!?! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Kim! Great to hear you enjoyed the video! 😊 There are so many options all around us for finding mosaic materials...places we never would've considered. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I was hoping I could find out if we can use tile mosaic sheets? They seem very attached. Not like the ones you dip in water to remove. I hope I didn’t buy in error because they were expensive. Can I cut each piece out and not worry about the backing? Can the pieces be cut with the backing? Ok I saw that you spoke about the same sheets of tile at Home Depot. How do we get the tile off of those sheets?
Thanks for the info! Lots of good, outside the box ideas. I live in Colorado and was intrigued about the shop in Northern Colorado. Would you be comfortable sharing the name of the shop?
Hi Christine! It's great to hear you enjoyed the video.😊 The stained glass shop is Northern Colorado Stained Glass (www.ncstainedglass.com/) in Laporte, CO. The owner is super knowledgeable...and she has LOTS of glass! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Can you provide the name of the places where there a small craft or glass stores in south Florida? I watched the video. Thanks for the info. I also live in south Florida.
Hi Mardi! The only crafts stores in South Florida where I've found stained glass is Hobby Lobby. As for stained glass stores.....ugh. All of the stores I used to frequent are permanently closed. I purchase glass on trips and order online. Keep creating and I'm so thankful you're here!🔥
Hi Mariane! I used to teach in-person classes often but then the pandemic stopped that. I'm currently not teaching in-person classes. Is there something in particular you'd like to learn about that maybe I could do a video about here? Or were you looking for the 'classroom' atmosphere? Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
I’m looking for the glass rods that I see are being used in the middle of flowers. Do you have a link for them? It looks like they have hollow ones but I want the solid ones. I’m afraid to purchase for fear I would get the hollow ones. Also they come in different thickness, so confused
Hi Sky! Oh glass rods are so much fun! Go to this video: ua-cam.com/video/fj-VFCkHW5k/v-deo.html. There are lots of tools, materials, substrates, adhesives, etc. listed in the description below the video. You want to scroll down to 'materials' and then look for 'rods.' These are solid glass rods.....not hollow. Is that what you're looking for? Hope it helps. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here! 🙌
Hi Bonnie! Thanks so much! Great to hear you enjoyed it. There are LOTS of 'shopping' options out there! Have fun!! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I love your videos! Ebay is not a safe place for buyers or sellers. I got scammed by someone with high ratings who lied and stole my property. If that wasn't bad enough, ebay wouldn't honor the insurance they sold me and they continue to harass me with threats of collection agencies, etc.. It was a nightmare and I'm still being harassed by ebay.
Hi Catherine! That's fantastic! What's your most favorite mosaic tesserae that you found at a thrift store? Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi KMF! Riiiiight Dollar Tree. I've gone in there a few times and have been disappointed yet I've heard other folks have found great things. So basically, location location location!😂 Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!
@@JulieWeilbacher I bought every color of plates they had when they had a bunch of colors and broke them up to use in lots of mosaics. Also glass gems, marbles, rocks and shells. Also colored glass to break up and use.
are you experienced with methods for using (search term) 'Glow In The Dark Pebbles Stone Luminous, Fluorescent Stones for Garden Decoration', community paths, bike and pedestrian trails, murals etc? i want to experiment but need more info from an experienced artist re sources and instructions. Great videos btw!

Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌
I am new to this channel but I am intrigued by your creativity. I would love to see what you do.
It will not let me sign up. I get a message telling me that they took it down. @@JulieWeilbacher
So very helpful - thank you 🙏

Hi there! Awesome!!📝 Love to hear that! Keep creating and I’m thankful you’re here!🔥
How I request a box?
I was hoping I could find out if we can use tile mosaic sheets? They seem very attached. Not like the ones you dip in water to remove. I hope I didn’t buy in error because they were expensive. Can I cut each piece out and not worry about the backing? Can the pieces be cut with the backing?
Ok I saw that you spoke about the same sheets of tile at Home Depot. How do we get the tile off of those sheets?
Hi there! If the tiles are attached to mesh you can pull them right off. Keep creating and I’m glad you’re here!🔥
I see some videos about painting tile too
Hi willow! YES! If you're able to, hand-painted tiles are a beautiful, unique addition to your mosaic art. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thanks for the info!
Keep creating and I'm so thankful you're here!🔥
Amazing video I am looking for

Do you give classes?
Hi Mariane! I used to teach in-person classes often but then the pandemic stopped that. I'm currently not teaching in-person classes. Is there something in particular you'd like to learn about that maybe I could do a video about here? Or were you looking for the 'classroom' atmosphere? Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
@@JulieWeilbacher I actually wanted in person.
What about marble?
@@JulieWeilbacher Yes that’s is what I was looking for, Thank you!
@@JulieWeilbacher can’t get link to work. Can you advise?
Great info!
Hi Bonnie! Thanks so much! Great to hear you enjoyed it. There are LOTS of 'shopping' options out there! Have fun!! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I need to watch again(saved it in my UA-cam art file, haha) and make my list. Subscribed and watching. 🙂
Thanks!
Diane! Thank you for the super thanks! I truly appreciate it!!😊
I love your videos!
Hi there! I’m sorry to hear this. Thank you for sharing your experience with our community.
Thirft stores , they know me by name now :)
Hi Catherine! That's fantastic! What's your most favorite mosaic tesserae that you found at a thrift store? Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Goodwill!
Yesssss!🔥 That’s a treasure trove!
At Lowe's and home Depot ask for the demo tile and they will give it to you for free.

Also tile installers.

You forgot Dollar tree
