Completely agree! One of the main purposes of MBTI is to help us more clearly see our weakness in order to overcome them and become more well rounded and actualized individuals.

Some of the associations that exist in the community need to be challenged. For example, my mom was INFP. Technically, she didn’t have Fe in the cognitive stack (conscious part) yet the role of Mediator (as the nickname for INFPs is) suited her very well. Mediating conflicts, calming the tension and other similar things came naturally to her. She had Fi as a dominant function (which marked her strength) and Te as an inferior (which marks a weakness one needs to work on a bit more). Such “gap” between decision making functions have made her indecisive in many situations that she had previously chosen to go with the majority. Let’s contrast that with her daughter (aka me). I have Fe as an auxiliary function. I would say that it comes across as being protective of others. Harmonizer is not a major concern for me. Because Ni needs challenge, change, questioning and disrupting norms (one way or another). My decision making functions being in the middle makes me come across as decisive in social situations. Let’s take a closer look at what Advocate really means and what they do. Advocates are people who need a reason to stand up for and fight, a cause to “fulfill”. They gather information to make a case yet once in a courtroom, they can take note of what the other side is stating and come with counterpoints. This is why there is a lot of confusion created in this community. We can’t take 1 cognitive function out of all and see it in a vacuum. It doesn’t work that way. Where are the other cognitive functions placed in the stack? What is the role they would have while positioned where they are? We need to ask deeper and more challenging questions and even consider recreating a system that combines types based on gap between perceiving vs decision-making functions.
