    This is an astounding synth in the hands of a very capable musician.

    I bought the DM12 three months ago, my first ever analogue synth, and I learned more by watching this video than I did reading the manual and watching other how-to videos. I could certainly use a master class from him!

    • @christoroppolo8742
      @christoroppolo8742 4 роки тому +4

      I agree this blows the manual away which is ridiculous. And yet can we really say this instrument has a definite character as a synth? I owned mine for three years and it’s a love hate relationship for me . Mostly because of how it sits in a mix with other music. Peace Christo 👽🐕🎶🛸☮️😉

      @@christoroppolo8742 could you say more about this? I am thinking of getting one because I want a synth more versatile than my 2 awesome ones that I own currently, which is the behringer model d and a juno 106. I want something that kinda will do all the things those two don't. So what don't you like about it?

    • @Timetraveller2208

      You got a manual with it?? Was that paper or the pdf version. I downloaded that one... as for a paper one. Just a thin booklet saying what controls were where! I bought a Korg pa600 last year and had 2 booklets with it, one thick one to explain everything, and a thin on one to say where the controls were etc...

    I’ve had this synth for several months now... it’s a wonderful instrument and well worth the price of admission. No one synth is the be all and end all for everyone; and the DM12 is no exception. That being said, the sounds (as you hear demonstrated here) are phenomenal and the thought that Behringer put in to the display (yeah, could be bigger and oled, but it’s just fine) and controls and iPad app are absolutely brilliant... I hope to see this kind of intuitive interface put out by other manufacturers. Every parameter and effect is accessible in a large format form in full color on the iPad app...sequences and cross fades between sounds can be created in the DM12 app as well. Oh yeah...and great demo! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Out of all the synths that I own (Novation Mininova, Ensoniq SQ1+, Yamaha DX7) and especially from a programming stand point, this has to be my favorite synth. Since I'm versed in FM synthesis, The Yamaha DX7 is running a very close second.

    This thing is so customizable that it’s insane. Add an expression pedal, and every patch can feel like it’s own instrument. Different types of modulation and effects mapped to the mod wheel, velocity, aftertouch, and an expression pedal. My only complaint is that the iPad is necessary for patch layering, but considering that the iPad is in my setup anyway it’s really a nitpick.

    • @graxjpg
      @graxjpg 4 роки тому

      Complex Dilemma there really is no way to blend patches without the app? That is totally not a deal breaker for me. the flexibility makes for like you said, a new instrument in each patch.

    Wish my Juno 6 had all these effects back in the day. Anyway if you are watching this video because your thinking about getting a DM12 .. if you do get one be sure to turn it off everyday after your done playing. I left mine running 24/7 for long stretches at a time and after about a year the LCD got so dim you could barely read it. I now have a new one and am very conscience to turn the thing off when I’m not using it. It’s a good instrument .. I’d argue built just as solid as my Juno 6 was. I ended up getting both the keyboard and module.

    So many talking smack about this synth. A synth's sounds are best when you're the one programming them, so if you're looking for a synth with presets that you like, you'll be looking for a long time and might end up with something you don't want. The fact that this is an analog synth for this price is the deciding factor for me when comparing the Novation Peak, the Prophet Rev2, and this synth. I'm going to get this puppy to add to my collection. I've got an OB6, a waldorf pulse2 and access virus c. This should balance out my rig nicely. The synth has some fantastic possibilities and I can't wait to start programming sounds.

    • @stillphil
      @stillphil 5 років тому +3

      Agreed Max!
      If there was a way to execute a #blindfold test of Katsunori Ujiie playing "this new analog synth" with no speaking or review (in Japanese English or any other spoken language...) listeners would be FREAKING OUT guessing many wrong answers begging for weeks to find out who made it.
      With the scourge of the Behringer name, their old reputation and the price The Deepmind models play a funny a trick on certain listeners/players/producers , blidfold test "reveal" videos would be a fascinating psychological study in how people suddenly start to lie and retract their first reaction.
      lol internet.

      "A synth's sounds are best when you're the one programming them, so if you're looking for a synth with presets that you like, you'll be looking for a long time and might end up with something you don't want."
      Exactly these people need to research Patrick Gleeson and other guys that used to be brought in to projects and recording studios BECAUSE they were amazing synth programmers.
      "Signature sounds" - used to be something to aspire to and "find" not computer synth packages.
      There are SO many options today and SO many people still want the "silver bullet" whether plug ins or hardware. The magic can still come from LIMITATIONS. :)

    • @graxjpg
      @graxjpg 3 роки тому

      Mod matrix is unique to each patch, and it does not have any kind of key splitting. Many modulation possibilities without using the matrix, so the matrix is massive even with the 120+ modulation destinations (which includes effects parameters).

    I can only second the good opinions on this synth. I played with it for almost an hour at the shop and completely lost track of time. And everytime I was looking for something ("in which menu is unison??"), turns out it's right on the front panel, where it should be. And the presets do a great job of highlighting what this synth can do. The secret sauce here is the effects section. This is what drives the massive pad sounds beyond your typical sub-$1000 synth.

    This guy does it proper. I don’t speak Japanese but I can understand what he’s saying.

    If you own a Deepmind 12 I re-created the original JUNO-106 Factory presets that you can load into it!
    Here's a link to hear the presets and the download link is in the bio: ua-cam.com/video/kLCo1tTiVjc/v-deo.html

    Hehehe..I can tell you're enjoying the layering in this device, Ujiie-San. For the money , this thing does a great job of packing a lot in a sensibly sized package. Doug Curtis probably hates this and loves it at the same time. It competes with his chipsets but at the same time validates what he birthed in the 70's. I have to say it tackles some more 'wave table' like DX-7 chime and bell-like timbres as well.. Nicely done.
    If anyone here has a deep mind, can you post for me what the feel is like - build quality etc.
