Welcome to the Behringer DeepMind complete guide. On this video we will cover every single aspect of this Synthesizer, oscillators, filters, LFO, envelopes, voices, pretty much everything. This is not a review, is a complete in depth guide / tutorial. Everything is timecoded, so can watch what you want or maybe comeback later to refresh your memory. This is the beginning, there are more like this coming like K2,, Neutron, Crave, Etc.
Since the synth is way too big to cover on a single video, a new video ( part 2, maybe ) will be released talking about the sequencer, poly chords, compare and other features not covered right here.
Timecodes:
0:00 - intro
0:53 - Nav & Init patch
06:33 - OSC 1 & 2
16:04 - Filters
21:42 - Envelopes
32:46 - Using What we know
35:07 - Invert VCF Env

I can't stand 15 minutes watching television, but I watched without excitation for two hours your explanation... AMAZING!! super clear, easy to understand, just loved it!!
Oh, me neither, I don't watch television anymore. I am glad you liked it, I really put myself to work on these guides, planning, editing, etc. Now, does watching YT counts as watching TV ?
Agree 👍🏻
🏳️🌈👨❤️👨
Wow. I was searching and found this video, to learn how operate the the deep mind 6 I just bought. Thanks to your very informative hand -on teaching of synthesizer fundamentals, I no longer feel lost on how use the many buttons on the deep mind 6. Thank you Sir.
Wow, thanks a lot for this extensive in-depth coverage! Behringer should send you a synth, not just for the efforts but rather because you really showcasing the potential/possibilities of using this synth. 😎👍
Thanks !!! I don't think they will provide anything anytime soon, but I would be cool to get demo version to cover them and then maybe give the synth back to someone who need's. Don't think that is going to happen, so far everything comes out of my pocket and patreons.
Era of new way of delivering the manuals begins, thank you.
Thanks man, glad you liked it.
For those looking for global tuning: poly section, edit button under "detune," 2nd page, last parameter. "-100" = 432hz A4
...Man, You're a godsend on this one, the Neutron, and Roland S1, and by this point you could probably teach a college course on synthesis, using allll the toys
Man, I've been looking at the DeepMind for years....may pull the trigger now!!!! Thx foe the awesome video.
Thanks. It is a good synth. Of all the behringer lineup this is the monster, the one that can get you to many places. The other ones are good, but the have a very specific vibe. For example if I need to do 90's or synthwave , MonoPoly is my first choice and then the DM will take care of other parts. If I need good bass, MODEL D. If I want that gritty classic sound, K2. If I am connecting modules, Neutron and Crave are my central pieces. They all have their purpose, but with the deepmind you can make a full record, it can do it almost all.
Learnt 3 new tricks in the first 10 minutes. I will be back when I have some more time! Thanks for all you efforts. Love the way you pronounce categories😀😀🇬🇧
Hey, thanks !! Yeah, sure, I planned this so people can come back later and watch it in parts. I speak a few languages and need to switch constantly, so it's hard sometimes. When a pronunciation sticks it is very hard to make it right. Besides, I am following the script, talking, thinking, monitoring the camera, those things don't help to keep my pronunciation in the right place. But, I don't know, I think the video turned out to be good despite all of that. Thanks for the support, it really helps.
Great video - the best I've found on the DeepMind 12 for a fairly recent newbie like me. Very clear, well explained and set just at the right pace. Thanks very much !
Great to hear it was helpful !!! thanks for the comment.
Thanks just got my Deep Mind 6 to add to my collection and your vid is great. Gramps from Iowa
Thanks. Glad you find it useful. Thanks for the comment. Greetings from Buenos Aires. :)
This is very clear and very useful. Great video!😎
Simply amazing tutorial!!!
This guy knows his stuff and is a great teacher!!!
I haven't even got a DM 12 and I watched your in depth guide. Thinking of getting one for my first synth as I love the way it sounds. Thank you for your time.
This as your first synth is a luxury !! this can make bass, keys, pads, strings. It's a very complete instrument. If you have the money, yeah, pull the trigger.
I'm a pianist and have been thinking about getting a synth - this video has been a superb introduction to understanding synth controls and techniques - THANK YOU :)
Thanks man. It is a great synth. If you are a pianist I can recommend this, specially with 12 voices, ASM Hydrasynth as well, the keyboard is great and finally if you are looking for something different kORG Wavestate.
i endorse XNB's recommendations. the DM12 is the poor man's roland juno, except it has hi-powered digital controls and effects and since you watched the video you see how versatile it is. just the factory patches are mind blowing and there are a lot of them. the wavestate is unique. it makes time based sequences of sequences of wave samples. and it has 4 layers like a baby workstation. i wanted to get a hydrasynth due to the poly aftertouch keyboard and ribbon controller, but i dont like the sound, so i'm waiting for the next generation hydra synth. a 4th synth that is really versatile is the arturia microfreak. now after several firmware upgrades this thing is a beast. watch some vids on it. finally i highly recommend that you download the PDF user's manuals on all 4 of these synths. you will be impressed. happy hunting. synths are great. also consider getting a large keyboard as a controller if you prefer having the full spread of a piano vs crunching arrangements to fit on a 2 or 3 octave synth keyboard with different sized and feel keys. FWIW, i prefer controlling from my 73 or 88 key and i dont like the keyboards that my couple of synths have (i got the DM12 module like he has in this video. it is actually easy to see while live performing because all the controls are stacked vs spread in a long line along a keyboard and i cant be looking for things while playing, no time for it.)
Amazing video, thank you so much for doing this.
The deepmind is my first synth and im loving what it can do
Thank you! Awesome tutorial
This modulation section was easily the most hyped thing on UA-cam.
Great video, huge thanks!!
This video is very very useful to me. I leaned a lot of this. Thnx a lot XNB!
@XNB I'm a new subscriber. You're *really* good at these videos: fast-paced, yet thorough, and very explanatory. Well done.
Hey there, I just picked up this synth and this video was immensely helpful in getting started. Thank you so much.
This is a great walkthrough, like sitting with a mate who's showing you the basics of how these machines work. Thanks so much, looking forward to the next instalment.
Thanks !! Yes, that the idea. I want whoever is watching to feel like there is someone next to him/her explaining how it works. Not reading a full script like a robot, just talking like a normal person. I do follow a plan, but I am just being myself. Thanks for the comment
Phenomenal! Huge thanks, you made the beginning of my analog journey fun and most importantly - logical
Wow very clear and comfortable explanation. It has been easy to concentrate about the content… thank you so much!
Best of the best tutorial! hands down you've thought me a lot and I owe you few coffees. thanks a lot
Sir, you have that rare teaching talent! Thank you! I learned how to use Poly-D, Microfreak and Deepmind in a glimpse thanks to your precious help!
Hello, Your channel is a place to really learn, term "in deep" is not stollen in every single tutorial you do. I really thank you for all your work and everything you share with us. Cheers from France.
This is the easiest sub ever!! Huge thanks! :)
As a matter of interest, would it be better for your channel if you split this video into three separate videos, say:
1. Part 1 of 3 - Basic
2. Part 2 of 3 - Modulation
3. Part 3 of 3 - Advanced
Sorry, I don't know how channel management works so just an ignorant question.
Huge thanks again. Loved every minute of it :)
Absolutely great. I understand my Deepmind 12 much, much better now. Thank you.
amazing tutorial, thanks!
This is an amazing tutorial thank you very much for putting the time in to explain it from the ground up. I have just finished the basic section and it was a brilliant recap on things I wasn't 100% sure on. Looking forward to the rest
Thanks Daniel !! Glad you like it and you could get something out of it :)
All your videos are amazing
I’ve got the Wavestate and the DM12. Your vids are a super online visual manual. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great job! Thanks for doing this this is the best explanation I have seen on using the DM.
Thanks Jim, i'll try to keep it up. There are a few more videos coming about this one, the synth is just too big to cover on a single video and 3hrs video it's just a bit too much. Thanks for the comment.
XNB, your guides are brilliant, cant say enough, thank you.
Glad you like them :)
Thanks for the comment.
big thanks for the crash course! very impressive, how you made the vast complexity of options digestable and thrilling at the same time!
Thanks !! Glad I could help. And yeah, the synth is a beast...once you take the time to learn what it can do, you can make a whole record just using this one synth.
This helped me so much ♥️Behringer should do this kind of video series . you did a great job ! thank you very much
Thanks !!! Some brand do, but they put musicians to teach. I am musician/producer but just to survive I had to learn to do other things. Teaching is a skill you learn, the planning, the organization, structure, be clear and right to the point. It takes a few years to master.
I bought a 2nd hand DeepMind 12 today, the first synth I ever bought... So, I was looking for a tutorial, and, this is great stuff. Liked & subscribed for obvious reasons!
Fantastic video!! Helped clarify so many things for me. Would love to see more deepmind stuff from you. Maybe some videos creating different patches?
Thanks !!. Glad you liked it. And yes, making patches, coming soon :)
Great video! I purchased a DM12 a few months ago and have enjoyed it very much! I learned quite a few things from you that I was unaware of with the DM. I am looking forward to your follow up videos . Looking some of your other videos to maybe see if I want to pick up something else to play with. Liked and subbed. Thanks for sharing!
thanks!! Glad I could help. I will release more videos using the DM for sure.
I can tell already that this video is going to be my new Bible. Just got my module today and phew, it’s a glorious mountain to climb. Great video!
Thank you, this really helped me with my DM6! Looking forward to the video on the Arp..
Thanks, I got sick and I am still recovering, but I already planned it and did the "behind the scenes" work. As soon as my voice is up and running I'll shoot, edit and upload :)
Learnt so much from this video ..had mine for a few years and thought I knew most of it but obviously no where near …thank you.. 🙏
No, thank you. You really did your part by helping me out.
@@XNBeatsMusic your welcome ..
Thank you for this! You put in a lot of time to teach us dummies 🎉
Thank you so much for this video. You are great.
Brilliant job.. Thank you for your valuable time and deep understanding and translating that to Deepmind fans (Really hope your feeling better 👍🏼) 🇮🇪👏🏼🎶
Thanks !! Glad it helped. This week i am posting something new with the DM12
Thanks a lot, it was really useful
Exatly what I needed. I don't like reading manuals. Great work, thank you!
Who does ??., Thanks for the commment.
Yo man, I really enjoyed this "family show", as you call it :D I have been exploring the depths of DM12 for a few years now, but still learned a trick or two! Thank you!
Thanks !! Yeah, I love the expression "Family show", for everyone, no exceptions. The DM is a great instrument, in a few days I'll be releasing the remaining part I couldn't cover because it was too long. Like poly chords, patterns, sequencer, compare etc.
I’m here for the innovative pronunciation of “categories” 2:47
Oh, I am sorry I just ruined the almost 2 hours of video trying to help you out by mispronouncing "categories". Thank you Steven for you awesome comment. I am sure everybody here will appreciate what you did for us and the community. Let's see your channel and see what your favorite videos so I can learn more from you and be more like you.
Now, finally I can understand my Deepmind. :-) This is absolutely great, thank you so much!
thanks !! i'll be expanding on the arp, seq, poly chord and compare in a few days.
Fantastic info. I've owned my DM12 for about a year but still took a lot away from this. Thanks.
Yes, it's a very complete synth. Is has a Juno mask, but it something else.
Thank you for this!
Thanks for spending the time to make this 👍🏼🍻
Yeah, it took a lot of time. But it was a pleasure, I really like doing this. Thanks for the support and the comment. It depresses me when I upload and I see no comments.
amazing tutorial
Bloody awesome mate, well done.
Thanks !! I love when someone uses "Bloody" and "Mate". Takes me to Britain in a split second. Thanks for the comment.
Absolutely brilliant, I've had my 12D for over a year as my first synth and this has been so helpful. Thank you👍
Thanks !! Glad to hear that. There is a part two coming, is delayed because my son started school an he bring home every single pest he can find, so I've been sick for 20 days now, but my voice is almost healed.
@@XNBeatsMusic I look forward to the next episode, I was getting a bit bored with mine as I was struggling to get certain sounds but your first vid has given me lots to practice. Thanks again 👍
How is the 12D? Im torn on which DM12 to buy
@@Fraudemusic I bought the D because i have no space. i've got a lot of keyboards so desktop versions are really helpful to me. But if you don't have a good keyboard, and got space, get the keyboard one. You can use it as a midi controller. But remember using analog gear as a cheap midi controller will shorten the life of the synth. So i always prefer to use something cheap as a controller and use the expensive things when required.
@@XNBeatsMusicThanks heaps, you’ve made this an easy choice. Although I like the size of the desktop version I’ll have to pickup the keyboard version as I have the space, won’t be using it as a controller, and it’s as close to an authentic 106 experience that I’ll probably get 👍🏻
Very helpful to this newbie thanks
Thank you. That was the Idea, make a "family show" anyone can understand. Thanks for the comment.
I have the excellent TAL UNO-LX, and use it a lot. I used to own a Juno 106, so I know the real thing is slightly different, perhaps more alive, gritty etc. I am considering upgrading to a Deepmind, as Juno prices are ridiculous now, and the Deepmind appeals both as a source of genuine analog sound, but also those wonderful hardware sliders and knobs!
Now I need this
thank you sm !!
Thank you so much, Deepmind 12 will never die.
Thanks for the comment. It is a great synth. It's a typical workhorse instrument.
Thanks for your time doing this... I am one of those that reads manuals as bedside books. Did it with the DM12 and saw your video too😂😂
Hahaha, I don't like to read them, but on my other profession I had to read documentation all the time, so reading the manual for me is super normal, business as usual.
thought i was reading the view count wrong - criminal that this has only 9k views, best tutorial I've seen yet for this synth!
Hahaha. thanks Ed, the channel is kind of new, so it will grow for sure. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks!
Man I love you.
Thank you so much, big salut 🫡 from France
ViNZ.
Thanks, glad I could help. Greetings from Argentina :)
Been watchimg this for months
awesome..........thanks so much
Thanks for the comment : . it helps
I just got my DM12D and had to send it back for a replacement - I had the problem of a constant tone at 6k/12k. This is really helping pass the time until I get it back. Thanks so much for this video!
Deja vu.....I read this message here and on FB, or maybe it finally happened and I am finally insane :s
Hope you et back your DM12 soon.
my 1st one also had that issue. the 2nd one is perfect now. hope yours will also
@@natipapena good to know, thanks you!
thank you
I can not express how good you were here. I thank you from the heart and wish you good continuation. It’s helpful and your way of speaking just fits perfectly. Thanks!!!
Thanks !!! Yeah, I put a lot of effort and time. You see 2 hours but it took me a days to film and edit. Thanks for the comment and the support :)
Great 👍 thank you!
Thanks for the comment !!
Awesome❤
The best guy!
I wish there was a binaural voice stacking mode that uses 2 voices per note panned left and right. Unfortunately I don't think Behringer will release any further firmware updates. All development will go into the DeepMind successor.
Yeah, I don't think the DeepMind will improve. In my opinion, it is already great. Sometimes when the update the firmware to make the synth do more things, the Fuxx up. Like Korg and the update of Opsix, great update, but it has a few annoying bugs.
@@eugeneport1748 Nope, but we all assume that. I really like this version.
You can pan spread the voices in the VCA edit menu! Makes for some super cool stereo effects
Are you still planning on a part 2? Reading manuals is not the best way for me to learn so I rely on these wonderful videos. I am trying to figure out how many user patches are allowed, how to save created patches, if there's a way to create a user bank. For example a "Bank I" or "Bank J" for me to have my custom patches stored rather than saving over existing presets in other banks etc. Thank you!
Cool !! 👍👍
I read Juno, analog and then saw the Prince tag and bought it as soon as I could get the money but if I had seen this video beforehand I would have bought it even faster lol.
It is a great synth really. In my opinion the best of all the Behringer line.
Great tutorial! I've already got a Roland XP-30. Should I just get the 12D and use the keys on the XP-30, or get the DM12 with the keyboard built in? Which would you do?
Oh !!....what a dilemma. When I bought this I had the same issue. I already have good midi controllers and other synths. So the Keyboard version was a problem, because of space. In my case, I prefer the desktop because I can put it wherever I want. But if you don't have a space issue, the keys are nice and having the mod wheel right there is a plus.
@@XNBeatsMusic Thanks for the reply. For me, I definitely have a space issue. As nice as the all-in-one would be, my setup pretty much dictates that I should get the 12D desktop version. I'm watching this tutorial again because it's so thorough. Seriously excellent.
@@KipCount Yeah, It was the same for me. So got the DM12, no regrets. Thanks, Glad the video helps in any way, and thanks for the comment.
You are the best live manual tutorial ever. I hope behringher can give you more synths to make manuals like this.
thanks !!! I'll try to keep it up, but yeah, I can only cover the synths I own. Maybe in the future the can contact me and provide the ones I don't own, not to keep them of course.
@@XNBeatsMusic How long is taking for you to do a video like this? I have some synths
@@fabiosantoriell0 hhaha, it takes a while. I write and plan the material. Already wrote for deepmind ( seq, poly chords, compare and other things),, neutron k2. All planned and written...but i've got sick, I still am recovering and my voice is still weird. So I cannot start recording until my voice is OK..... it takes a whole day, depends on the synth and the editing takes two days. Also, wrote the script for Minilogue XD, Opsix and in a while I will start with Hydra, Arp oddysey, crave. But right now, I am waiting for my voice to be in good shape.
@@XNBeatsMusic Hey you must they strong my friend! You will be our new live human manual guru!!!! Great Work!
@@fabiosantoriell0 Haha, I like that, human manual guru. Been called a lot of things, but not that one :)
Awesome work. Thanks a mill for this. Neutron next 🙏 😊
Yes, still planning that one. Neutron is pretty complete for a small modular synth, son it takes time to order thing and try not to miss too much. But yeah, I am planning it.
Bedankt
Thanks man !!! It really helps a lot to keep the wheels turning. Today's coffee is sponsored by Jasper. Cheers !!!
Hello XNB, great work, great help. Maybe you could help me because I'm struggling. I can't get it to work in Ableton 11, do you have any ideas on how to proceed? Thank you in advance even if you can't help me. Good luck and more great work.
Thank you so much! Could you please make such tutorial for Minilogue XD?
Of course !!! I already scripted and planned it. I am waiting to have a bit of time to record it. It is long, the minilogue can do a LOT.
@@XNBeatsMusic uff, I will be waiting it! Also interesting to see your room tour and current setup, sir. Many thanks
@@astrarivm I don't think I will do that :S .
I like to show you what you can do with something, gear or plugin.
You learn nothing from watching a dude showing his expensive instruments or his setup....I've started this because there are a lot of videos out there with people showing off their gear and teaching you nothing.
I could show you my expensive guitar collection.....what will you learn from that ? Nothing. Much prefer to show you how to change pickups, or add a treble bleed or how to tune your synth. That is helpful.
That is why I don't show my face, it takes more work and it's doesn't make the video about me, it's about the synth and you learning something new :)
@@XNBeatsMusic I feel you. I have my own recording studio. Showing your setup for me is more about vibe, atmosphere and how you use it. Kind of exploration :) I've bought some devices in my studio after watching such videos and very happy with it. Because often I don't even know something exist.
But of course I understand your opinion. Thanks for the answer.
Also thanks for info on rearranging FX (@1:45:30 in case someone looking for it too)
does the deepmind 6 osillators needs to warm up before using it being an analog synth? thanks
Very informative and well explained, thank you.
Thanks !! Glad you liked it.
How would I connect this? I have an iMac running logic, using a Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820 as my AI. I want to be able to use my midi keyboard (Yamaha CBX-K 1 XG) as an input to write midi with the D12 in Logic. But I also want to be able to run other sounds from logic --> D12 ---> back into logic. And to use the D12s LFO, ENV... etc. on sounds i make in logic. Maybe through a patchbay too if possible so I could patch it through my other analog gear before going back into logic? Idk if any of that's possible. Can't seem to wrap my head around how to achieve any of it. I dont want to buy the wrong cables either.
My man
Thanks
Worth every penny.. now I do believe I saw a tutorial for Model d..🤔
WOOOW...thanks !! You are the first person to buy me a nice coffee :), I actually didn't even noticed this feature was available, haha. So, thank you really, it helps to keep doing theses guides and some other content :)
Yes,...I will do some cool content when I finish with the guides.
This has to be one of the best if not THE best tutorial on this platform not only just for the Deepmind but for synthesis in general.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this, truly appreciated!
Should I buy DM12d and a keystep pro or DM12 ... I need a new midi keyboard but I want a dm12
Can the delay time of the FX section be synchronised with the arp/seq & MIDI Clock? Without that, it's hit or miss if they match up correctly.
Hey !! I don't use the effect that much, I use it with the daw, so I don't need the effect to record. But, time based effects can be synced. On the delay, when you select the time of the delay...if you go all the way down, it let's you do subdivisions. This will follow the internal clock or whatever you are using to sync the unit, for example the DAW.
@@XNBeatsMusic Thanks for that.
@@musicandfilms9956 Anytime !!!
HELLO! just trying out the voices and when in mono mode I cannot change the priority (remains ---) anhyone knows why?
please, a link to explain the SEQ mode !?
pls do that video about sequencer and arpeggiator
I will, already planned it. But my voice is recovering from illness. I guess, I'll be ready in a few days and the I'll hit the record button :). It going to be about the ARP, the SEQ, POLY CHORD, COMPARE and other functions.
@@XNBeatsMusic thats great. Can't wait and get well soon :)
@@millhouseSK Thanks men, almost there.
I'm going to ask what might sound a stupidly easy question to answer. I've not had my DM12 for very long; somy question is: I've mad a nice sounding ambient pad. But, how the hell do I name it, and save it? I've trawled through hours of videos and a I've found nothing. So if anyone knows the secret, please tell me; I'd be so grateful to you! Thanks in advance! Glen (The Wavestate mk2 is a doddle in comparison).
Can someone please tell me how to record it in Garage Band?
👌👍🙏💚🧡
❤👍👍👍🙏🙏
can you explain why my vcf envelope doesn't do anything?
could be a lot of things. Go to globals and run diagnostics
@@XNBeatsMusic hmm..ok ..to be honest I’m a real noob and I was thinking along the lines that i just don’t know what I’m doing, because the synth is supposedly new. But I’m not sure what the vcf is supposed to do anyway, does it control adsr, in the same way that the vca does?
@@duster43 Well we all have to start someplace, right ?. Yes the VCF controls the filter, you cut high frequencies.
VCA controls the volume out.
The VCF envelopes control how you can automate VCF going up and down, ...is a one shot instruction in how something should be modulated. Same for the VCA envelope, but it goes up in down in volume so you can create long, short, plucks, bass sounds and so on....
I actually explain all of this on the video.
@@XNBeatsMusic ok tnx for the in depth response. I have a better understanding (somewhat). 🤔
@@duster43 Have you watched the guide ? Specially on that part 21:42 - Envelopes
What Roland copy is that? 😂😂😂
