It's really good that you can play these records and put them on UA-cam. These recordings have a history from a different era, while they used different recording equipment. Yes these recordings are well recorded and you can really hear the words of the songs. (GREAT JOB).
one of my all time favourites..jack payne..in the days when I collected 78 I had some lovely stuff of this fantastic dance band..it was a time I would of loved two been in the days of the dance bands ..19 30's
My grandmother had stacks of old 78 records many of which were of Jack Payne and the BBC dance orchestra. I used to go up into her loft where there was an old wind up gramophone with a horn. I spent hours playing her records.
I wish the music industry would ask the song writers of today to produce romantic songs that really had the class of the 1920's and 30's music. Innocent love song with themes written from the heart, hugs, kisses, wishes and dreams. ... under a full moon, missing a loved one, dreaming of that special someone - imaging the fun, the thrills, counting the minutes to be together. Jack Payne's music, class and style will live on. Thank you for posting it.
Great compilation -- and I am very highly impressed with the sound quality you manage from these antiques. We'll be hoping and looking for more from you
Jack's version of "Just Imagine" has long been a favorite. It's too bad that Val Rosing didn't record more with Payne; his vocals are wonderful. Very nice selection.
Henry Parsons - born in the mid sixties. However, I love 1930 great bands of England. Was raised on the big bands as a child. I really love listening to Jack Payne.
TRACK TIMING: 00:13 [1] Just Imagine -- Jack Payne & His BBC Orchestra (Val Rosing, vocal) 03:11 [2] With My Guitar And You -- Jack Payne & His BBC Orchestra (Jack Plant, vocal) 05:48 [3] Sittin' On A Five Barred Gate -- Jack Payne & His BBC Orchestra (Jack Payne & Band, vocal) 08:34 [4] Californian Serenade -- Jack Payne & His BBC Orchestra (Jack Payne, vocal) 11:14 [5] Underneath The Spanish Stars -- Jack Payne & His BBC Orchestra (Val Rosing, vocal) 14:20 [6] Sunny Days - Jack Payne & His BBC Orchestra (Jack Payne, vocal)
Not to take away from these performances at all - but has anyone noticed how often Jack mis-sang a lyric? On "Five Barred Gate" he sings, "Love young dream's a nightmare." (It should be "love's young dream".) On "Bubbling Over With Love," "I've got someone I can rave about" becomes "wave about" - what the diner at Crewe did with the mouse in his stew! He blows another word in that chorus - "Why do I st-write song words", as if he wants to say "sing" but catches himself. Was it all "good try" over on your side - especially if you were the leader? If Jack had been recording in the US, he'd have been asked to stop singing. He didn't really have a voice, or a personality to make up for the lack of one, and over here, a band's appeal depended much more on its singers - especially as pop music became background noise to the depression.
A great orchestra beautiful music , but he was a hard taskmaster once members of his orchestra walked out on him and opened with a new orchestra down the road called Pleasure Without Payne , he took out a court injunction against them and they returned to his band somewhat unhappy 1
I am reading Olyslager's `British Cars of the Early Thirties' and page 76 has a photo of Jack Payne with a 1934 Singer Airstream car, a not very attractive attempt at streamlining. Apparently, Jack bought 14 of them for members of his band, all in yellow.

Heavenly

A time of great poverty. Class too though.
@@baronmeduse People endured. That is why they had great music to get them through.
These are a good listen. I don't think I've heard any of them before. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful music
I like your collection of music magazines. They had such great graphics.
Beautiful ,very contemporary 👍
Glad you liked the selection. I tried to choose some representative recordings of Payne's output, which was considerable at the time.
This is wonderful. It's why my preference is for the sounds of the Thirties and Forties. But especially the Twenties! Oh, my!
"With My Guitar" rendition is great! Arrangements and Jack Plant's vocals are incredibly beautiful!
I absolutely love the rendition and beat of the wind-woods and other instruments 🎺
Thanks for these treats.
I remember when Radio 2 used to play these joys.
The Dance Band Days, The Organist Entertains, Listen To The Band , etc. all gone.
Yes, it's a favourite of mine too, right from that lovely introduction. I think this is one of Val's best vocals too.
So beautiful music and brief lyrics
Sounds great
Thank you so much for taking the time to upload all this beautiful music.I listen-in every day. :o)

Sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Nice clean-up.
Val Rosing was in a George Formby film
They played heavenly music and sang in good English! What a wonder!
Tell us about "good English," José.
@@harryknackers7892 well A'rry, good English is a'wffly good indeed!
They did. They add a bit of period style to the video.

The opening of With My Guitar sounds like Chaplin's theme to The Kid.

Nice Mix. Do you have any Henry Halls?
does anybody knows the band members?
I wonder how many 78s were turned into plant pots?!!😣🧐
Thanks for these treats.
