I have been making and eating this porridge instead of my usual cornmeal since you posted ”What I Eat in a Day - Plant Based” 7 months ago. I LOVE IT!! Thanks for caring to share.

When you say turn the heat all the ways down do you mean to the very lowest setting ? I get easily confused.. you're not saying turn it off and then cover with a lid.. right ?
Just turn it down to the lowest setting .. so that it's barely even simmering ... ?

I made the porridge using hemp milk, which i made myself. Once i dressed the porridge up with all those suggested fixings the taste was warm and yummy

@beautifullyfree how long where you able to store ? Would the Amaranth porridge stay good in the fridge for the whole week? Also how did you heat ?
I’ve just ordered a big bag of amaranth SUPER excited to try it.
Thanks for the recipe idea @tishwonders still inspiring people 3 years later.

I tried to make this pudding once and one suggestion I have would be to add a few drops of natural almond essence. I found that the amaranth already had a slight almondy flavor naturally, so this would up the flavor even more, if you like it of course!

    Look good!!!
I tend to do my own method: first I pour hot water into a soak bowl for 30 mins - 1 hour then drain it before cook. because if not soak, I will get stomach upset.
BTW, thank you for sharing your porridge idea with fruits..I will do add some fresh fruits.

Currently on the stove (mostly for my picky 5 year old) I used to eat amaranth but I hadn't for a while and was brainstorming foods that I can serve my little boy that is nutritious and that he will actually eat... Thank you for this because I used to pop my amaranth but I wanted to make a porridge for him so this was just what I needed. ❤️

I just want to say, the way you made it looks so yummy and satisfying. When I tried it it tastes like earth. I have never made it before this first attempt and really wanted to like it. Did I do something wrong? Did I not cook it long enough? Does the earthy taste go away?

    • @TishWonders
      @TishWonders  7 років тому +1

Lol you have to flavour it up well especially if you're not use to it. With regards to tasting like earth, no it shouldn't taste like earth. Most people try and love it first time but might take some getting use to for others.

    • @ItzrhystheW

Tish Wonders Lol maybe because I'm not used to it. I put some raw brown sugar and milk in it (only because I didn't have anymore coconut milk). Hi Tish! I really love your videos- I've recently become plant based vegan and its really helping my health. I'm also starting to use products with less chemicals in it. I'm currently looking for a makeup line/brand which is as natural as possible (ingredients). I'm not sure if bare minerals is a good option; all the alternative natural makeup lines seem to be in the USA! Shipping costs and waiting times are a lot. When you do wear makeup, what do you wear? Can you suggest any natural makeup lines/brands sold here in the UK please? Thanks!! Xx

Please be smart and don't get all caught up with wearing makeup all the time... if you are fortunate enough to have pretty good skin don't cover it in that crap.. when we were in high school my sister and I covered or faces in Foundation to hide our freckles.. by the time I was 18 it had given me enlarged pores.. at that point in time when I was about 19 I decided to stop wearing any kind of foundation.. but back then it took me a long time to get the pores to look more normal and for my skin to get healthy because we didn't have internet to do research easily and I didn't really know what to do to have my skin other than just steaming my face with some herbs like rosemary.
Smartest thing you can do is have healthy glowing skin by eating healthfully and only putting ALL NATURAL products on your face.. by that I mean the majority of anything going on your face should be things you could actually eat like raw coconut oil or ghee. I did just the other day buy some marula oil.. which I put on my face but to be honest with you I was a little bit disappointed because everybody in all the videos is raving about how great it is.. it didn't feel any different on my skin than when I occasionally put neem oil on it at night.. the only real difference is that neem oil smells horrible like burnt onions but it is a powerful healer and good for the skin.. I would never wear it out in public on my face and since I have very light skin it would make it look darker anyway .
I want to also try CACAY ( kakay ) oil.. because supposedly it helps boost collagen in the skin which you need to have healthy skin.. please don't confuse it with cacao.
Hemani sells small bottles of pure argan oil for about three or four dollars in some Indian Grocers.. often it will be near where they had the Puja products.. sometimes it will be where the medicinals are... I hope it is pure Argan Oil.. I have no way of knowing .
To have even tone skin and have the connective tissue nice and strong so that your face doesn't age too much or get sags in it I recommend you start taking ASCORBYL PALMITATE.. it is not the usual form of vitamin C which usually will be water soluble and come out when you urinate.
Ascorbyl palmitate is fat soluble meaning it goes in the fatty tissues and that's where you want it because it will help with the collagen and it will also make your skin even tone and bleach out freckles and too much redness or or any other kind of skin discoloration.. I have always noticed a difference in the times when I do and do not use ascorbyl palmitate.
A little bit of extra fresh ground pepper in your diet . it must be fresh ground.. will actually give you Rosy Cheeks.. but if you do too much it can actually make you sick.. that's why you have to be careful.. like I said please don't get caught up in putting foundation on your face if you don't have to .. guys love nothing more than looking at beautiful skin on a woman's face... they don't like looking at Foundation ...they don't want to see a mask .
Now there were times when I used to use the Bare Minerals when I first bought them about 11 years ago.. the only time I used it was around the sides of my nose where I sometimes would get a little bit red or it would be a slightly different color than the rest of my skin.. the other thing is you should never use that horrible crap they tell you to put on your face... OILY stuff or whatever it is that they tell you to put on before you brush on the powders... I think it had DIMETHICONE in it and blocks the skin and doesn't allow it to actually heal or absorb.. please do not ever buy any shampoos or hair care products with it because all it does is coat the hair but it won't allow anything to absorb into the hair shaft that might actually heal it or make it better. If you Google how bad is dimethicone... an article will come up in a website called something like the truth about cosmetics.. and basically it is a plastic ...it is not biodegradable which tells you it is not really a normal thing it is more like a petroleum by-product .
It Coats the skin like a layer of plastic and doesn't allow your skin to breathe AT ALL .
The other thing about Bare Minerals is they seem to have have a monopoly on that type of make-up .
That's why they are so damn expensive... in the past no matter where I have gone to buy it in a store ,one little container of it is always about $28 (American) and if you can find it for less please do let me know where that is.
You might be able to find some mineral powder similar to it but they might not have as good a coverage .
So really if you do not need Foundation please don't start playing with that stuff .
Also when I was younger what gave me beautiful glowing skin was in the morning eating about a tablespoon of cod liver oil... it seems to be harder and harder to find inexpensive good quality cod liver oil as they don't seem to make my skin look so nice anymore and the price keeps going up and I hear a lot of them have mercury .
If you could afford the really expensive ones from around Scandinavia or whatever more power to you but those prices are outrageously High .
You might want to try to get some real tea seed oil... both for putting on your skin on the outside as well as eating.
This is oil made from the seed of the tree that gives you drinking tea.... not to be confused with tea tree oil .
I had heard some years ago that real true tea seed oil never spoils never goes rancid.. I had a brand here for 2 years... and it does have a slightly rancid taste because one summer I had no air conditioning and it sat in a cupboard in a kitchen in a very hot part of America where most days were around at least 95 to 99 degrees even over a hundred degrees Fahrenheit... for that whole summer ! ... so I don't know really how to tell if I've got a pure tea seed oil ... another nice oil for the skin but I don't know if I would ever eat it is jojoba oil .
As for eye makeup I don't know what your eyes and eyebrows look like but a lot of men don't like looking at a bunch of makeup on a woman.
When a man sees a woman with makeup and she looks good and then later they see her with no makeup and they are SHOCKED at the DIFFERENCE... you don't want to do that to yourself.
You want a man to really like your looks for who you really look like.
It's different if you're both going out for a special occasion and you want to look extra nice but I'm telling you please do not get caught up in looking all PAINTED up all the time... another thing women make the mistake of getting all caught up in is the false eyelashes... yeah they make a woman's eyes look really great but I would tell you to please look at the videos where women are talking about how they now have almost no eyelashes left because of false eyelashes .
I don't know who you are but there are so many other worthwhile things to be spending your time on and whenever I see these women who love love love makeup and they know all the different brands and all the different products and all the different colors.... just remember this stuff is all fake it is artifice... regretfully more and more people are going for the artificial look... please don't be like that...
if you are going to spend a lot of your time learning and knowing something please make sure it is truly something worthwhile... for example all the different healing plants , seeds , flowers , herbs roots.. how to identify them and all their different names... how to harvest them , how to grow them , how to extract them and make tinctures and creams.... how to make tea out of them.... this is just one example.
Maybe use your time becoming a great musician and studying how to compose... or go to that school in London to learn to be a shoe maker. .. I think you see what I'm saying .

Hey, for natural products in UK look out for weleda. They don't do much make up but for creams, lotions and oils they are amazing! I'm an advisor and I use it myself. The products are bit more expensive but is it all worth it, first because you find clean products and second because they are sustainable and also because they plant thousands of trees. Check it out! This is that kind of company that I truly want to support!

      Teff is gorgeous! Amazing grain.
Definitely try the popping some time. Takes 15-20 seconds and its really versatile. I'm gonna pop a new batch in a short while. :)

      whats the popping method?

      Hi Nneka.
Get a flat based pot, nice and hot (medium to high heat), no oil, no water etc etc...once its hot, put a layer of the Amaranth in the pot and COVER the pot (because they pop and jump everywhere, like popcorn). Keep gradually moving the pot around to move the grains so they don't burn..it literally only takes a few seconds to do. Once they stop popping, its done - take them off the heat and tip them out of the pot ASAP so they don't keep cooking as they can burn very quick.
Repeat as many times as you need. I usually fill a small container of it so I always have some on hand. Tastes delish as a quick snack.
