Perfect review, thanks. I just ordered a F750GS which should be with me in 2 or 3 weeks and I will be touring with it. I am 5'3" so I reckon the 16" screen is the one for me. We have a saying "Buy cheap buy twice" - I reckon this screen will be the antidote to that potential pitfall!
I had one custom done, because here in my country is really hard to get your hands on a good one, but it turned out terrible because of turbulence and it looks a lot like the givi.
Hi Scott, great review, I just bought a factory lowered BMWF750, def getting a Madstad windscreen, I'm 5 7" 30-31 inseam, I'm leaning toward the 16" screen, it's important for me to be able to look over it when I want too, I'm thinking I would not see over the 18" screen. Per their website, top of tank to my chin is 15". Would love to hear your thoughts.....I also ride dirt!...easy dirt for the BMW though, I'll stick to my DRZ 400 for the harder stuff.
I'm 5'5" with a 27" inseam and have the 16" screen. It's fine, but... I have the screen set to the highest position, and can see over. If I had it to do over again I'd go 18" to give me a little more room for up and down adjustment. I'm loathe to suggest what other people should buy, but at 5'7" and 30"+ inseam I'd go with 18" and definitely not the 16". That's for the 750GS. I have no idea if it'd be different for a different bike. Hope that helps.
I have a question concerning the windscreen. I have it on a 2023 BMW F750 GS. I am 5‘7“ tall, have a 30" inseam, weigh 184 pounds, always wear custom ear plugs, I have been riding for 65 years, ridden to and in 49 states so I am not a novice rider. I wear a Shoei Neotec helmet ... I get a constant very loud wind blast on both sides of my helmet. Also, a strong wind blast on my arms and shoulders. My primary concern is the strong loud wind on the sides of my helmet, which makes the ride unenjoyable.... I have tried different heights and angles....For me, the 58 degree setting is the best, however regardless of the height, from all the way down to all the way up, I get no buffeting on my helmet, however, the loud wind noise and wind blast on both side of my helmet, arms and shoulders continues. It seems if the windscreen was wider my problems would be cured. I do have the side wind deflectors installed. Is there anything you can recommend to eliminate this. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
I don't own this F750GS any longer. However, I don't remember any undue wind blast on my arms or shoulders and definitely no wind blast on the sides of my helmet. We are riding a motorcycle so we're going to get some wind of course. I basically found myself in a relatively calm bubble while seated on the bike. My only suggestion would be to continue making adjustments to the windscreen to try and find that mostly calm bubble. Buffeting is always the bane of my existence and the Madstad eliminated that entirely. I wish I could be of more help.
@@Scott_Goodwin Thanks for your reply. Previously I owned several RT's with the OEM electrically adjustable windscreen, never had a wind issue, never had to add any after market items. I downsized to this 750GS because of my age and wanted a lighter weight bike, however, I think I will go back to the RT...much better wind protection and much more comfortable ride. If I was your age again, that is definitely what I would be riding.....try one....
did you install the flat plate between the 2 brackets? I am trying to install this windshield on my GF 2023 750GS and if I install the flat plate, the windshield holes and brackets holes do not align
I don't own this bike any longer. I actually don't remember any flat plate during the install. I do remember the installation was super easy so if you're having trouble I would contact Madstad. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
What kind of holder and bracket are you using for your phone? I plan on getting the Madstad windscreen. I'm 5' 9". with a 32'' inseam, so thinking that the 18" screen will work for me. I have the comfort seat, which is at about 33", but might change it to a standard seat, which is at about 32". What do you think would work best?
I no longer have the F750GS, but I used www.amazon.com/willis-Motorcycle-Charging-Navigation-CRF1000L/dp/B09HZMJ6W5/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3SU3KX7HVDGUK&keywords=bmw+phone+holder+gps&qid=1700074747&sprefix=bmw+phone+holder+gps%2Caps%2C93&sr=8-3 for the phone. As far as seating I had the sargent low seat. I wouldn't want to recommend a seat for you, but I tend to err on the side of lower being better so I can get a soild footing on uneven terrain.
Hi Scott, I have the Madstad adjuster bracket but with a givi screen and an extender. One question - doesn't your GPS mount etc get in the way of the adjustment knobs on the Madstad bracket? I have my tomtom mounted above the TFT and struggle to get my hand in to adjust. Need to take the screen off really, to get them tightened properly. Cheers.
I do recall what you're talking about when I was going through the process of finding the sweet spot setting for the windscreen. The knobs were not "easy" to get to for me either. I didn't think too much about it as once it's set I don't re-adjust my screen. I would not like to have to go through the struggle if I moved my screen all the time though. How's the Givi screen with the madstad hardware? I tried the Givi screen first before I got the madstad and the buffeting was horrendous. Felt like I was in a boxing match. My head was getting tossed around so much.
@Troy Sorrell No, the relocation bracket doesn't interfere with my ability to see in front of me and I don't think you'll find that a problem either. I've changed my setup a little and use an 8" tablet now instead of a phone for navigation and that doesn't get in my way either. I tried to save a few bucks and had my BMW seat fitted with a custom seat pad from a very reputable online company. I was unhappy with the results. I broke down and bought the Sargent Seat and that was one of the best purchases I made. Instead of saving money I ended up spending a lot more. I should have just bought the Sargent Seat in the first place. Hopefully you'll have a better outcome than I did with a custom seat.
@Troy Sorrell It is a Givi relocaton bracket. I buy my Givi stuff from carpimoto which is WAY cheaper than buying the stuff from a USA distributor. Carpimoto shipping is quite reasonable and when you buy multiple items the shipping doesn't go up too much so it's best to buy several things at once. www.carpimoto.com/en-US/Bike_BMW_F-750-GS/Brand_Givi/50784_FB5127-Givi-FB5127-Smartphone-.htm
@Troy Sorrell I think you edited your original question, but just in case.... When you remove the 4 screws holding the GPS holder it opens up to two pieces with each piece having a half-moon cut out that will fit the round bar. The Givi relocation bracket will work with the BMW GPS holder.
@Troy Sorrell I have the pivot rox risers and I also use the stock BMW OEM GPS holder in the stock location at the bars to hold my phone. I'm pretty the actual mount that goes on the handlebars I have rotated 180 degrees as I run a tank bag so I turned it around to get a little more clearance. My Givi relocation bracket is used to mount my 8" tablet now. I'm going to do an updated video pretty soon on all my current bike mods.
I just have bought a F750GS 2 months ago, I have felt going on high speed that I’m left behind, it sure is because of the short windshield it comes with. Madstad says mesure from top of the tank to the chin then add 4 inches. I’m afraid of looking through the windshield instead of above of it. The measurement from top of the tank to my chin is 18inches plus 4inches, I suppose to buy the 22 inches tall shield. Should I buy that one or a 20inches or 18inches tall?? Best regards!!
I'm short at 5'5" (165cm) and I bought the 16" screen. There is a few inches of up and down adjustability with the Madstad and my 16" screen is at the very top setting. If I had to do it over again I would have purchased the 18" screen and adjusted it for the middle so I could go up and down a little if needed. Just go with what Madstad says you should get would be my suggestion. You can always email them too and get their input. Hope that helps.
Hi, i have the same windshied on the same motorcycle. It is awesome. I am thinking of Installed the GPS support. Does the windshied hardware interfere with the GPS support hardware?
Are you talking about the relocation bracket that you see on my bike? If so, then no it doesn't get in the way. Let me know if you mean something else.
@@Scott_Goodwin thank you for your quik response. Sorry for my bad english languahes skills. I Have another question. How do you clean the TFT display?
The windscreen in the video is a 16". If I could do it over again I would get the 18" as with the 16" it is set to it's highest position. It's right for me at this position, but I'd prefer not to be at the limit for adjustability.
May I ask how tall you are and which size you got exactly? I didnt quite get that in the video... Also are you using the comfort seat which would add a bit of hight? I have the taller seat installed and I am pretty tall for european standards, so the large PUIG windscreen produced massiv turbulences around my helmet which were unbearable...
I am 5'5" (165.1cm). Quite short for a male with a 27" (68.6cm) inseam. I have the Sargent low seat. My suggestion if you're looking for a Madstad is to follow their directions on their website about sizing. Hope that helps.
@Troy Sorrell I'm not going to be able to give you any first hand experience with a passenger on trips as I ride solo. However, I don't think a passenger on the back should make any difference for the screen size you should order though.
@Al I have the low suspension and low seat, however I've since bought a Sargent low seat (don't think I had it in this video) which made all the difference for me on long trips.
@Al My inseam is 27". I'm still on the balls/toes of both my feet, although the Sargent seat is also pretty wide too. With a 29.5" inseam I'd get the standard height rather than the low because with the low version you lose out on the Dynamic ESA rear shock. Also if you want a center stand they're much easier to come by for the standard height version. You could get just the low seat, but if you plan on long journeys on the road I'd suggest a different seat altogether. I have the Sargent seat (low version) and it works great for me. The stock seat was no good for long hours on the saddle IMO. Bottom line is standard height and low seat would be my suggestion, but you should throw a leg over one and see how it feels to you. Hope that helps.
@Al I'm close to your height & inseam, I sat on both reg and factory lowered F750, got the lowered suspension with factory seat, it's perfect, can flat foot no problem in my adv moto boots.
Scott, hello I recently saw your UA-cam and glowing reviews about the Madstad, thanks!. My question is, how is the buffeting with the Madstad between 70mph to 90mph in clean air? Also, how is the buffeting (at those similar speeds) when behind a big rig truck, suv's? and cross winds? Sincerely, Mike
Sorry for the late reply. I didn't know this was here. The short answer is there is no buffeting at any speed. I don't have any issues with buffeting when behind cars or SUVs. The big rigs are pushing so much turbulent air that I don't notice buffeting as much as the whole bike shakes depending on where you are in their turbulence. I don't get an buffeting in cross winds that I've ever noticed.
I have the 16" version. I'm 5'5" tall. I would get the 18" version if I could do it again. My 16 is set to its highest setting. Madstads website tells you how to measure for your torso.
I'm a big fan of Madstad - their engineering is fantastic. I have one of their windscreens on my Versys 650.
