LS Swap - Measure and 3-Stone Hone the Bores. Will the pitting in the cylinders clear up?

  • In the last video, this motor was disassembled. Rust pitting was found in two of the cylinders. Lets try to clean up the bores by using a three stone hone, but not until the bore size and roundness is verified with a telescoping snap gauge and a micrometer.
    Lets keep this project moving forward so that we can get this Blazer moving forward as well!
    LS swap. Vortec 5.3 liter V8. Pulling this Vortec out of my 2002 Chevy Silverado, refresh the motor, do a cam swap for little more power and get it installed into my 1989 Chevy Full Size Blazer. The 4L60e transmission is going to be used as well.
    Follow along as I learn how to do this for the first time. Ill be shareing with you the things i feel like you might need to know from a beginners perspective.

    Are you gonna do your own cam bearings? I'm sure it'll run just fine. Machine work is super expensive, but so are short blocks. Just make it happen.

      Yup. Good catch. I did say the bearing were smoked but not what i planned to do with them. So I've bought the remove/install tool and will be doing them myself. Probably will be in one of the next few videos. Thanks!

    That glaze breaker won't produce a round, straight hole. A rigid hone is what is required to properly hone cylinders. Those bores are likely fine fore a standard size piston, even the stockers with new rings so long as the skirts aren't worn badly.

    Run it, I’ve run worse and been fine. You’d be surprised what you can get away with on an average daily driver motor build. Good job
