They're a pain in the butt! You can leave the intake on and the transfer case attached if you pull all the bolts out of that front diff and let it drop a few inches. I usually leave the axle shafts connected to it so it doesnt hit the ground. Even with all that it isnt easy.
Right on. I super appreciate the advice. Im really enjoying this project (even thought ive struggled at times) so im sure this isnt the last one i will pull. I like the idea of dropping the front diff. Especially if the truck was a keep and i didnt want to cut a hole in the tunnel to access the transfer case bolts. Thanks again.
Thanks for the advice. First time pulling a vortec. Wanted it all out. I thought about dropping the pan but was afraid of damaging the internals. Hey, it worked! For a part out truck, I’d do it again that way in a heartbeat.

Would have did better if you just pulled the oil pan off and unbolt the trans smh
