- Cleveland is one of the midwest's greatest cities! I visited Cleveland last year and was impressed by the beauty and the architecture. In this video I briefly cover Cleveland's history, population, skyline as well as a few things that make the city unique. Thanks for watching: Cleveland Overview | An informative introduction to Cleveland, Ohio.
#citygeek #clevelandohio
Cleveland is extremely underrated! It’s museums are world class and architecture is incredible, thank you for this thorough overview of Cleveland, you always do an incredible job!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it. I know you’ve been waiting for this one 😊
You left out that the Cleveland Orchestra is the World's finest and that Cleveland is home to world class medical institutions such as the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, and the nation's 3rd largest VA Hospital.
Way more of an interesting city than I ever would have expected.
Interesting fact at the 5:51 mark: the murals underneath the glass rotunda at Heinens were painted by Francis David Millet, who died on the Titanic 3 years later.
Yes my home city finally got it’s props
I live in the Cleveland area. Thank you for bringing out the beauty of Cleveland. There is so much to see and do in Cleveland. Our Metroparks are amazing too.
Not a mistake on a Great Lake
Buffalo is the mistaken City on the lake.. 😅😅. Cleveland has a beautiful skyline.
@@mrbear716Any city which invented hot wings is anything but a mistake
@@honeycomblord9384 I'm in Buffalo, and it nothing much here. We are the third poorest large city in USA.
@mrbear716 if I'm correct Cleveland is either number one or 2
@@alpat6374 I wouldn't be surprised
My family lived in Cleveland during my teen years. I love the city!
Cleveland is f*cking awesome. Idc what anyone says. Overhated!!!!
Beautiful City.
Thanks for highlighting some of the best parts of our city!
Yessir, Cleveland is a cool city. Great suburbs, downtown/Ohio City are nice, and world class orchestra and art museum. Some architectural gems and great repurposing of beautiful buildings built long ago. They need to improve lakefront and river access, but I understand plans are in the works for that.
This is an excellent video. I'm surprised, though, he didn't mention Severance Hall and the Cleveland Orchestra. Overall though, thanks for focusing on Cleveland in a positive way.
Thank you!
Yes! The Cleveland Orchestra is considered one of the Big 5. And for many years has been widely considered the greatest orchestra in the U.S.
Even Clevelands culinary/food scene...🤌🏾
Soooooo much to really touch on!
GREAT VIDEO! Appreciate the high attention to detail.
The new Sherwin Williams HQ is a bonus addition to the skyline as well. Just recently topped out. 4th tallest.
Thank you!! And thanks for bringing up the new addition to the skyline!
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to CLE about 18 months ago. Stayed in the hotel at the base of the Key Tower, that whole vibe is very nice! Took a walking tour up Euclid Ave and learned all about Playhouse Square and the surrounding area. With the relatively low cost of living, In would venture to say that it could be a good city to relocate to because you get a lot of "bang for your buck" there.
Another wonderful job on a very underrated city. I love what Cleveland has done with their waterfront. This looks like great city to visit. Thanks for continuing to list the top companies found in each city. I’m always pleasantly surprised that each one has something to offer the rest of the country in the business world. 🎉😊
Thanks so much!! I always appreciate your comments 😊
I'm from overseas. Visited in 2013... Cleveland downtown is exquisite. The amount of buildings with marble, gold, etc... honestly, the level of beauty in one place, I've never seen anything like it. Clevelanders should be very proud.
Thank you for doing justice to our city! Gothic and Art Deco architecture are ubiquitous in this area, too.
I enjoyed it. I never knew who Cleveland was named after, or that there was a tribe named Erie. I would love to visit the art museum someday.
We’re getting a new skyscraper right on public square as we speak! They’ve already finished the top floor pour.
That’s awesome!
Sherwin Williams new HQ. 616ft tall. Lots of rumors about a potential 400ft+ HQ2 going up next door.
Just in downtown 2 days ago for a show at the House of Blues. Downtown looks great. I was born in Cleveland, in the burbs now.
I hate youtube won’t just let me post a pic without having access to my microphone and camera. I got a nice shot of construction from the observation deck of the Terminal Tower but of course UA-cam wants my home address, family members, DNA sample, SS#, and my childrens school name to post a fucking pic. Why does UA-cam need access to my microphone for me to share a photo? Seriously
Come and see all 3 of our buildings!!!
Cleveland is a truly great city, and it’s a shame people mostly think of it as a boring and dirty place where the river caught on fire.
I love my city. So much to do here
It's actually a cleaner (and greener) city than Chicago and Pittsburgh are.
Gorgeous city
My wife has been wanting to move to the mid-west and showed me this video to help convince me...its working! Seriously though, what a fun city with so much to do! Free museums....sign me up!!!!
Lol!
Yes. Move to Cleveland. You will not be disappointed
Yes, there is a lot to see and do. Come as a tourist, but don't stay. There are NO jobs.
Very nicely done! I hope you come back and enjoy our city and metri area again sometime.
Thank you! I hope so as well!
Currently in Cleveland. I like it here. Also, can you do a video on New Orleans?
Absolutely!
After Chicago, Cleveland has the biggest skyline on the Great Lakes.
Detroit and Toronto don't exist?
@@jjorjojo I mean on the American side. Detroit is on a river.
Yeah Detroit is not on the lake. And Toronto would be next. But in USA it’s 100% accurate
@@billyboy4797 There is no building in downtown Detriot as tall as Key Tower in Cleveland.
Awesome video! I lived just outside of Cleveland as a young girl and had forgotten about the science center until now! Thanks for highlighting this great city!!
Thanks so much!!
As someone who grew up in Cleveland; sincerely, thank you. This was a wholesome overview of a lot of great features the city has to offer.
Thank you!
Amazing video!!!! Love that market!!!!!!
Thank you!!
I absolutely love your videos. Excellent job highlighting a place close to my heart!
Thank you!! Glad to hear you enjoy these!
I was wondering when you'll get to Cleveland, I was actually spending a weekend in Columbus when I came across that city's overview video.😅
I've never been to Cleveland but, I already like it. Another insightful video 👍👍
Thanks!
I absolutely love this series. Thanks for keeping it up.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoy these!
You know what’s a big misstep in this video is that it mentions almost nothing about university circle kinda crazy yes it mentioned the art museum but no mention of the botanical gardens, case western, or even freaking Cleveland clinic
Yeah it’s always a challenge for me to decide what I mention in the video. I did mention Case Western but I probably should have said something about the Cleveland Clinic. Thanks for the feedback!
Yes, University Circle, being the hub of Cleveland's cultural, educational, and medical sectors, needs to be highlighted. A mention of the Cleveland Orchestra--how Cleveland is known to much of the world culturally, is needed as well. These are remnants of when Cleveland was the richest city in the world for a time. Rockefeller lived and worked in Cleveland, and he and industrialists like him should get a mention with your intro to the industry.
Totally agree
This video is so cool love the museums I think u should do Monterey soon it has one of the best Aquariums I've been to
To be clear, The STRAT (Stratosphere Tower) in Las Vegas is 1,149'. While it's not technically a building, it is our country's tallest free-standing observation tower and second largest in the western hemisphere. Love your channel! Keep up the good work!
Cleveland metro parks are excellent. A must see.
Cleveland now has a large new sky scraper in 2023 that is not pictured in these skyline pictures.
Thank you very much for making this video, its very informative and helpful 🫶 !
Thank you!
Love this series! What does the research process look like when you make these videos? Is it you scouring the web, reading books, etc. to gather all the information?
Thank you!! It’s primarily scouring the web, but I have some books that I’ll refer to as well. I’m lucky enough to have visited most of these cities, which helps as well.
City Geek - You failed to mention what the Cleveland region is the most famous for: music. We have something for everyone. From Jazz to Rock and Roll, this area has it all. We have The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Great overview.
Thank you!!
Grew up in northeast Ohio and always loved cleveland. I think it could drastically improve if they built up the waterfront of Lake Erie, and having a bigger live music scene such as Nashville since Cleveland is the birthplace of rock and roll
There is a plan for that
Indeed like what if they built condos/lofts all along the Cuyahoga river and had an actual riverwalk. Cleveland has the potential they just have to do it.
Not mentioned at all but worth pointing out:
1) Cleveland has the largest Slovenian-American community and among the largest Hungarian-American communities.
2) Cleveland has a very strong Jewish community for its size (80,000) and has a very large and growing Orthodox Jewish community, with quite a few kosher restaurants (the most in the Midwest outside Chicago). On a personal level, my mother is originally from Cleveland and I've had family ties there.
Some people may not know this but Cleveland's skyline is taller than Dallas. The Key Tower is higher than BOA in Dallas.
Not true. Dallas is #9 and Cleveland #18 in total heighth rankings. And sure the Key is taller because of its spire. It’s actually only 888 without it. And Dallas has several towers taller than the second tallest in Cle. Two completely different skylines, polar opposite actually. Both nice.
Spire or no spire Key Tower is taller than Dallas Bank of America Plaza
That's not even close to true. Cleveland looks like a tiny village compared to the skyline of Dallas.
Nice city
As a former Clevelander, I approve this video! 😂
The Terminal Tower... That's so 80's! It's Tower City.
All's groovy otherwise. 🎉❤
Thank you!! That means a lot!
And thanks for the feedback! Thats good to know 😊
Terminal Tower is the tower itself, Tower City Center is the mixed user area at/below street level.
When are u doing a video on St. Louis?
I really want to live and work as a nurse in cleveland.
I would think nursing in Cleveland would be ideal with the Cle clinic.
It's funny that what constitutes a National Park in that part of the country would just be natural landscape in the West.
That’s a rather dumb thing to say. It’s always ranked as one of the top 10. And what constitutes is relative to the area especially considering who many people live there.
@@iamchaunceman I didn't say anything untrue. Sorry for triggering you.
The Terminal tower in Cleveland almost reminds of the Freedom tower in Miami but only bigger. They have that tall steeple/crown on top and at night you see them lit up in different light colors. Both really pretty historic buildings that America has almost forgotten about.
I must add to your list the world renowned Cleveland Orchestra, whose home is Severance Hall, adjacent to the Cleveland Museum of Art, both located in University Circle, the cultural, educational and medical hub of the city.
Awesome video. But with respect, you forgot Severance Hall and University Circle in general. I know everything can't be included. But when friends come to visit, I always make sure to mention those 2 places. Great culture and they definitely add to the overall experience of being here. Make no mistake however. I LOVE this video. Thank you for casting such a positive spotlight on The Land that I love.
Thank you! And thanks for pointing that out. I probably should have included Severance Hall and University Circle.
Having spent all but three years of my life in NEOhio one might think that I am loyal to Cleveland over Pittsburgh, but I really think the latter is a much nicer city. However, I do prefer Cleveland over Columbus, as I think it has a lot more character. Cleveland would also be substantially bigger if not for CVNP, but I’m glad for it. I live in Akron, almost surrounded by the parkland and it’s really the best part of this region.
Cleveland Clinic contributes to the U.S. economy through its operations and construction activities. In 2019, the Cleveland Clinic contributed $34.55 billion to the economy, including $1.89 billion in state and local taxes and $3.5 billion in federal taxes.
St. Louis should be next!
Are you including the new Sherwin Williams headquarters in your stats?
Would have loved if you touched on the huge gash in the lakefront taken up by the private airport (BKL). It would be a great opportunity for more coastal development instead taken up by a hardly used airport
Yeah everyone in Cleveland agrees with that except for the Cleveland Clinic and that’s why it’s still there
CLEVELAND ROCKS!
Warehouse Distric, University Circle, and Ohio City. Yay. : )
Do miss Chief Wahoo and the Indians. And if the Browns face the Lions in the Super Bowl, the next day will be the Final Day. ; )
No it doesn’t. 💀Wrong.
Cleveland’s the next big city to make itself relevant again. It checks all the boxes, and is sandwiched between a sea of fresh water and a national park. With the cost of living added in it may be the best bang for your buck and the last city where middle class can still have the American dream. It’s gone in many cities where you must make 100k to even qualify for a loan.
Hey. Do you still plan on continuing this series? If so, I have two recommendations:
• Greensboro, NC and its metro area, and
• Greenville, SC and its metro area.
Thanks!
Hello! Yes I do plan on continuing the series, I got busy during the holidays but will hopefully have a video posted in the next week. Thanks for those recommendations!
we have so many parks...it's ohio, rivers, lakes, forests, great hiking in general and great food.
Memphis is definitely the birth place of rock n roll.
Cleveland just coined the term on radio.
What about New Orleans?
@@jayhpaqNew Orleans is the home of Jazz and gumbo
Agreed!@@mrbear716
Yeah but it’s Memphis.
Cleveland was great enough to get the Rock Hall!!!
when viewed from above, the Rock Hall is in the shape of a record player
Can you do Des Moines next pleaseeeee? 😊
Also Balto in the natural history museum
How safe is Cleveland for tourists? The city looks awesome but I am worried for my safety on the streets and public transit.
Cleveland has a small rapid transit rail network that connects the airport with the bones of the metro area. This is supplemented by busses, which constitute the vast majority of the RTA (the transit name) of the network. It suffers from underfunding due to suburbanization and exurbization. America is a car culture and municipalities and states fund accordingly. If you will safe is impossible to judge, but I would strongly caution you to arrange a private car if you can as this will save you time and effort. Uber and Lyft operate like other major cities.
I took busses from the suburbs throughout the city through high school age but as soon as I got a car and bicycle, I never take the busses outside of a few exceptions.
Hope this helps.
It’s no different than any other American city
If Cleveland was a car free walkable city then it would be perfect.
Your typical American city will never be car free and walkable.
Hi Cleveland
I like Cincy's skyline much better. Otherwise, another great video. Like every other video. Which is why I subbed and why you should too!
Yeah it’s a close call for me between those skylines. Thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoy these videos
I like Cleveland Skyline.
Cleveland in 2023 has maybe it’s largest building added to downtown. It is not pictured in this video which must be a bit older.
@@jonnyturtleneck7153. Yeah the Sherwin - Williams.
So much more interesting than Cincinnati or Columbus.
Cleveland's ethnic communities and neighborhoods are what make it truly unique. we Clevelanders tend to take them for granted, but after traveling throughout the united states and living abroad, I have much deeper appreciation for our 'melting pot'.
I have a city you could do. My hometown of Lambertville, New Jersey. Even though it's more of a small town. It is marked as a city.
Can you please do Dayton Ohio. We are part of the miami valley.

Cut-a-HOG-a, JUST as it is spelled!
Nice presentation of an underappreciated, occasionally maligned city. Cleveland rocks -but please change the baseball team name back to The Indians.
Thank you!
A big C in the buckeye state full of C's
The Browns are the best sports team in Cleveland today I don't know why everyone shits on them still.
Because usually they’re the hottest of garbage (a 1-15 season followed by a 0-16 season? c’mon), and when they’re not, they choke at the last minute and blow their chances at a postseason. For once they’re actually doing _properly_ well, and it’s about damn time because they stopped being worth even laughing at years ago, it just got to be too sad.
@@RobCamp-rmc_0 still better than the Dolphins which is my hometown team. You want to talk about a sports curse you come talk to me. We haven't won a playoff game in 24 years and had a 1-15 season.
@@thedirtybubble9613 the Browns had their last championship win before the Super Bo- sorry, The Big Game™️ was even A Thing, and any time they have a chance at being good, the hand of God flies down from the heavens to slap them out of the sky
That said, no matter what, yesterday proves that both Cleveland and Miami are football-cursed and I’m definitely laughing about Cleveland
@@RobCamp-rmc_0 Miami's last playoff win was literally in 2000. Cleveland got a playoff win a few years ago at least. But you are right we are football cursed cities.
@@thedirtybubble9613 yeah, think of it like this: you’re in a drought in the middle of the Australian Outback, and we’re Charlie Brown running toward Lucy thinking we’re gonna get that kick, for real this time I mean it guys
Not as cool as the "Hastily Made Cleveland Tourism 1 and 2 videos"
Cleveland might be the birthplace of the term "Rock & Roll" (thanks to radio DJ Alan Freed) , but it is by no means the birthplace of the music genre itself.
🎵… all our fish have AIDS …
Ok... Tell me how Cleveland's skyline looks better than Cincinnati..? I need to understand
Lol it was the combination of the height of the Key Tower and the look of the Terminal Tower. I like the Cincinnati skyline a lot though so it’s a close call
That is a great combination. I guess I never get over the big gaps to really appreciate the architecture
@@CityGeeklol, Cincinnati’s is better, and it’s not even close.
Also, Cincinnati is the largest metro area in the state
@@SL-vy8ueThat is only if you don't combine it with Akron's. They share the same suburbs.
I grew up near Pittsburgh and Cincinnati seems like a wanna be version of that. Cleveland is unique.
Just don't drive your Hyndai or Kia through Cleveland.
Love Cleveland however their skyline sucks. Cincinnati is beautiful and stunning. Cleveland is a downtown skyline that failed to be relevant.
Just another city where you can buy or sell
I lived in Cleveland. East & West sides. Property taxes are high. Most neighborhoods are disintegrating. Police will not respond to calls for assistance. There is gentrification surrounded by deteriorating neighborhoods. There are good sites (museums, etc) in iffy safety areas. This video is sanitized.
Still not Detroit!
Cleveland has both major professional sports teams like the NHL & the MLS!🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽🏟🏟🏟🏟🏟🏟
Cleveland has neither a NHL or MLS team, that's Columbus.
The Cleveland Monsters are in the AHL, not the NHL; the Cleveland SC is only a semi-pro soccer team
They have the big three so who cares. More than the other two big Cs combined.
