    Native Detroiter here, you nailed a lot of the good stuff. You did your homework. I usually cringe when the same old cliches are covered. Follow up next with Corktown and the train station area. It’s an amazing addition to the story. Campus Martius is the true heart. Well done

    I can definitely vouch for everything you mentioned. I've been visiting Detroit on a regular basis for the last 15 years or so. It's definitely changed for the better during that time. Fifteen years ago, the downtown corridor was dead. Today, it's a incredible and vibrant place to hang out in. The Henry Ford Museum, is an absolutely fabulous Museum, with so much to see and do. And, as a motown music lover, Hitsville USA, is a must see. I love Detroit. She's seen her share of rough times, but she's on the rise. Totally agree, Detroit Airport, is awesome.

    Born and Raised Detroiter. Lived in Pontiac but my family owned a large electrical business down on 9 Mile n Dequindre. Detroit is a completely different city from 2012 to 2024. Still has its down parts, but Jeep just reopened a big plant, GM converted an old abandoned plant to an EV one, Ford finished up Michigans Old Central station for their EV Headquarters. More money is being thrown at the city in developments and investments than in the past 30 years combined. Something greats happening

    Detroit has such an amazing history. Although known as the Motor city, it has a rich history relating to World War II. It was then, at the request of President Roosevelt, that the auto companies converted their factories from auto production to tank, plane, arms and other armaments to be used in the War. It was, along with a few other cities, referred to as the Arsenal of Democracy. As you stated in your video the museums in Detroit are also excellent and it has a fantastic fan base, covering all the major sports teams. So much 👏👏👏🥰 to see in that great city. Thank you for the great video and yes, Detroit is most definitely underrated.j

    Detroit is one of the most unique cities in America, especially for its architecture
    The downtown skyscrapers that were built in the 20s & 30s are beautiful
    The neighborhoods near Chicago Ave are full of HUGE MANSIONS where the rich car company execs & other wealthy people lived in the 20/30s
    Belle Isle is a gem

    • @jayjayjames2332
      @jayjayjames2332 8 місяців тому

      As great as downtown is, all of the bad rap Detroit gets is from it's neighborhoods.. so I wouldn't buy a house too close to the city. The prices are low for a reason. I live in Roseville (12 miles from downtown Detroit). I wouldn't live any further south right now. I'd say the cut-off for cities to live in around the perimeter of Detroit are Roseville/St. Clair Shores to the East, Northern part of Warren/Sterling Heights to the NE, Ferndale/Hazel Park to the North, Southfield/Farmington to the NW, Livonia/Westland to the West and Taylor/Southgate to the South. Half of these are bit rougher around the edges but I wouldn't want to live in any city closer to Detroit than these.
      Harper Woods, Eastpointe, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Dearborn, Melvindale, Center Line and Grosse Pointe are the cities that border Detroit and most are pretty bad. Then of course right inside all of these are the actual neighborhoods of Detroit with blight and crime galore. Stay downtown or at least 10 miles outside of it is a good rule of thumb lol

I like how they've made a conscious effort to preserve anything of architectural value, one example I've been watching is the complete renovation of the Book Building, which came very close to being torn down. It'll be interesting to see whats going to happen with the Renaissance Center because GM is moving into that new skyscraper you mentioned, so the Ren center will be without a major tenant.

      It's called The Fisher Building/Theater - not Fischer.
      I don't know anything about a prototype of the Empire State - but the Fisher was supposed to be part of a complex. We are missing the middle structure 60 story and the other 30 story structure.
      We're blessed to have what we have. 😊
      And Belle Isle SHOULD have been Central Park - but the Detroit city council and other political decisions (the conditions of the land didnt help) made Oldstead run to NYC.

      These days, the violent crime in Detroit is overwhelming linked to other illegal activities or a vendetta. To clarify, if you come to Detroit and try to buy drugs, get a prostitute, or somehow otherwise assort with someone in a gang, you are getting yourself into trouble. Broad daylight robberies of people or stores, or other crimes of the like are very rare. As an outsider, you have little risk. Every year the crime situation gets better because the economy in Detroit proper is getting better. There is still a violent streak in the society from the past trauma though, so this is what is reflected in the crime rate. But as you can imagine, it mostly affects people within the society of Detroit. All this being said, the places you will want to go as a tourist are completely safe. All of the freeways surround midtown and downtown like a moat from the rest of the city. You can then go right to the suburbs. But the most interesting ride you can take is to go up Woodward from downtown for 16 miles to Big Beaver Rd aka 16 mile road. You will literally be driving through the neighborhoods of every income bracket in the US.

    I've always been fascinated by Detroit, and especially it's architecture. But I find the Renaissance Centre truly ghastly, and to build that when there were truly beautiful skyscrapers in the centre going empty and derelict, truly stupid.

    Belle Isle isn’t a city park, it’s been a state park for a couple of years now. Chrysler isn’t downtown anymore, they are part of Stellantis and operate out of Auburn Hills, MI.

    • @salemdesigns65
      @salemdesigns65 7 місяців тому

      @kirknra863:
      Actually...
      Eventhough Belle Isle is controlled by the State, it's being managed like a city park - as it should be.
      And Stellantis (14 brands - 4 domestic ones) is the only car manufacturer IN Detroit - we have Jefferson North (JNAP) and Mack (DACM) that makes JEEP products. Lastly, Stellantis is out of Amsterdam, technically.
