I’m a woman but I totally agree with your assessment about ladies laughing at a restaurant. It’s fine to have fun but why does it have to be so loud and disruptive? It makes the dining experience less enjoyable for others.

I’m from Vancouver on the west coast of Canada. Our best Italian restaurant is by far Il Giardino. It’s ran by Umberto Menghi, an award winning chef originally from Italy. If you’re ever in town I highly recommend it Michael! All the best

When I was very young, my father explained to me that "everything in life -- at its basest level -- is about separating you from your money." I can see that whether it was in the mob life or the post-mob life, you learned that lesson as well.

Back in the '80s and early '90s, I remember eating at Teresa and Mimmo's in Little Italy, NY. I don't believe it exists anymore. Kind of a NY-style, rough-and-tumble place, but the food was spectacular. They had a signed picture of Gotti hanging on the wall. If you didn't tip the waiters enough, they would actually follow you outside and give you hell in Italian. Che disgrazia!

Well Mr. Franzese, though Italian food is my favorite and i could never give it up, i guess i'll feel pretty safe at in & out or mcdonald's lol.
True story i used to work for a high end mover with only rich clients, so one day were delivering and installing a flat screen tv in lee iacoccas bedroom at his mansion.....this was before hardly anyone had these type of tv's.
He liked our service so much, he tipped each one of us $100 bucks and had his italian chef cook us an Italian lobster lunch....i licked my plate clean.
God bless you and your loved ones.

My Great Grandpa immigrated from Italy in the early 1900's . I was raised in a small town that was predominantly Italians, mostly from Northern Italy around Modena. This video explains a lot. Even being only 1/8 Italian it seems a lot of the attitude about food comes through.

OMG, I can relate to the restaurant story about the table of women just laughing so damn loud that it’s difficult for your dinner companion and me to hear each other. So rude and obnoxious. It happened last night at an Italian restaurant here in Seattle. Just gawd-awful.

I had a customer from Los Angelos who visited our plant in PA annually, always planned around the semi-finals of the US Open in the Meadowlands. Every year they wanted to make sure we visited Sparks Steak House in Manhattan, NYC. If I recall correctly, that's where Paul Castellano & an associated was killed. Anyway, never had a bad meal when we went there.

There's a steak restaurant here in Phoenix that opened in 1950 and has been frequented by many mob guys and entertainers and it's called Durants on Central Ave. It was originally owned by Jack Durant, who passed away many years ago but it's still operating. Before opening the restaurant he worked for Bugsy Siegel in Vegas.
Congrats on your UK trip and have a safe journey home.
