- We've switched from Vanlife to a 4x4 Camper! A full tour of our simple but functional 2008 Land Rover Discovery 3 camper conversion. Our 4WD camper is certified self contained and features a kitchen, running water, power via Goal Zero Yeti, toilet, fridge, lounge and 2 beds!
On the roof we have a Front Runner Slimline II roof Platform, Feldon Shelter Hawks Nest roof tent and Bush storage crate.
Our 4x4 Land Rover Discovery 3 camper conversion is fully setup for our surfing, adventure and photography road trips in New Zealand.

greetings from wales like most others i was on the verge of switching off when the intro came on but glad i didn't i have converted a few landrover discoverys to campers and really like the simplicity of your design plus the use of the vehicles own extras and glad to see you haven't spent a fortune on items you may only use once. a great site to watch is lr time they are a couple in germany who love their travels in landrover discovery 3 and 4 happy adventures.

Another way to open the tail gate from the inside is to push in the lock & unlock buttons on the dash at the same time.

Question, a 1:16 minutes in, I see the dwaing of the layout, would you mind sharing the drawing and dimensions? I'm in the process of building my LR3 "overlander" and you guys made an awesome layout!
It's a great little setup that you have there. A very simple approach. Although, just a little heads up regarding those key lock boxes that you, and many people, use. Whichever brand you choose, they all take about 30-60 seconds to get into and your insurance is invalid if you use them and the car gets stolen. Whereas, if you lose the key in the sand your insurance company will still pay out... Go figure 🤷
There are plenty of UA-cam videos on the subject.
Otherwise, love the simplicity of the setup.
What would be your advice to secure the vehicle keys when they’re out in the water?

It’s exactly the same colour combination and spec (left hand drive though) as I have in Switzerland. Would like to have the plans for your build up 😊
Awesome! Best colour. We didn’t really have exact plans. Most was done on the fly with a lot of cardboard templates. We would cut cardboard to fit the space and then use that to shape the ply to fit. ✌🏼
They don't break down here anymore than other cars..maybe it's to do with age and servicing!! You've got a practical workhorse there

Greetings from freezing cold England. Nice video thanks. I'm thinking of getting a Discovery 3 to adapt like you but I was wondering how long the bed is? I am 6ft (1.83m) tall so not sure there would be enough room lengthways. Cheers anyway.
I’m 6ft and can sleep comfortably in the bed. Prob wouldn’t want to be any taller though.

Heya mate. Yes this is the low profile hawks nest. I actually would have got the higher one but they didn’t have it in stock. Can’t leave much bedding in ours. Not sure if we’ll get to a video on the tent sorry, got a pretty full on schedule right now. 🤙🏼

Great set up! The million $ question though - what length the internal bench has. What height you should be to sleep inside?
I’m 6ft and can fit in comfortably. Moving the passenger seat forward and more upright adds a little extra room.

Best car I owned until it blew up 1k kms from home. 170k kms full service history and all preventative maintenance done. Never again it's not if but when a LR leaves you stranded
