I saw Frank 3 times, all in small venues (3800 people) and perfect acoustics. His back of house boards looked like spaceship controls. I bet he had 120 channels. I think they even mic their asses incase someone farted, they could make sure it sounded perfect. Some of the best times of my life. I've been a blues man for 30 years with Frank's influence driving me. Thanks FZ and thanks Dweezil for keeping it going.
The best way to pay homage to one's Father. I appreciate Dweezil Zappa so much because he could be doing a lot of other things. I saw ZPZ the first time at the Vouge in Indy and the show was way beyond my expectations. The people in the audience that night ranged from 21 to 70 something for sure.Great to see the younger set out there who have never had the opportunity to see Frank's music live by a great band.
Dweezil is fully aware that he is not Frank. He however is out playing Franks music live, so that those of us who may only ever hear the songs on a stereo can truly appreciate it. Add to the fact that the drummer in this clip played with Frank and is out supporting Dweezil.. that carries some weight. Lets not have a Van Hagar vs Van Halen discussion here. Lets enjoy Franks Music :)
I think that it is fair to say that Dweezle Zappa has bacome one of the top guitarists of this day in rock and roll. He has done AMAZING justice to his dad's music. The whole family seems to have amazing talent, intellect and soul!
Very nice! The bassist gives a respectful nod to Jack Bruce's fuzzbass solo on the original, but then makes it his own baby... Dweeze, you done yer dad proud on that SG!
I was in the crowd, there, it was my very first concert, and it was a helluva show. Also, it was pretty loud, there were some loud whistlers behind me who almost blew my eardrums out.
To all the shred-o-matic finger jockeys out there: Dweezil is the real deal. It’s much, much harder to play good, well-chosen notes than it is to play all the notes. And let the music breathe sometimes. Rests are part of music, too.
I stopped going to concerts a few years ago because I have an eye disease and can't see anything in the dark, but I think I'd make an exception to see Dweezel play Frank's music.
EXACTLY..."...Lets enjoy Frank;'s Music :)" And who not better than Dweezil??? I am really enjoying Dweezil...and his great talent. and he is for shore easy on the eyes!!! .
well to take on any of franks musical notations has got to be scary The Dweeze does very well..and i am so thankful that he works his ass off to bring this music to us,...also all the supporting musicians and they know who they are thank you..too bad that guy to the left cant move his bloody head
I'm very greatful for Dweezil and the best bend ever assembled. I got to see his father&co live a few times and I did not appreciate it, it was background music for the "me" show and I just did not understand and was only concerned with getting laid (I was a teenager, sue me). And along comes his kid to give me a second chance to get floored by real tunes. An opportunity I will never waste again.
Thanks for posting this Denis. That was a great show....probably the best (out of many) individual performance I saw that year. I had a great run in the summer of 2010....saw this ZPZ show on July 5th and went to the Crossroads Festival in Chicago.
Zappa definitely did this kind of stuff live. Covering a chord progression or a bit of a well known riff here and there. ZPZ is as close to the real thing we have to hearing zappa's music live now. Until Frank decides to end his eternal rotation around the earth (death) and return home.
I believe Joe Travers is employed by the Zappa Family Trust as the archivist for the huge vault of Zappa tapes so he is very familiar with most known Zappa compositions..A real plus. Great drummer.
The genes, man, the genes!!! What Frank had couldn't be taught and ditto goes for the kid. Dweezil simply comes by it honestly. Yes, he watched his father, for sure. But, that shit you're watchin was always in that lad. The dna is the culprit. His father's influence only heightened the already natural skills. Genius.
FZ's music is worth keeping alive on stage, that's for sure. Saw ZPZ at the greek theatre in L.A. with Return to Forever. FZ melded so many musical genres together, threw in modal riffs and funny social commentary. One of the few true greats. I wish more musicians would turn their backs on tired cliches and mix it up.
It took alot of guts to try and step into daddy Franks shoes. Frank would be proud. I watched this thinking no way could he pull this off. Excellant job ! Bass player awsome too. Was pleasantly surprised.
Andy Thomas How are you Andy, well I hope mate? I never knew Jack Bruce played with Frank! (but doesn't suprise me as everyone played at some stage, if only a few notes (now I think of the original, I can hear Jack playing Cream Bass lines) I learn something new everyday! It is a great Bass line! Peace Friend :-) P.s. Very Led Zepplin' like at 4.10 mins ( Couple of riffs' Off the Song and album 'Song Remains The Same'... off the top of my head!)
Andy Thomas Yeah! Interesting, I just read the 'Wikipedia' about the line up etc. for 'Apostrophe' There is also some discrepancy about Jack playing Cello not Bass on It, yet the only Cello lines, are in the Intro to the album. Sound like 'Cream' Bass lines to me! Cheers buddy.
Dweezil has learned to play the guitar from a framework of rock gods..hendrix, paige, van halen...and others who actually tutored him from a young age in a type of music Frank did NOT play nor did Dweezil listen to. It was later in life and the passing of Frank that brought Dweezils courage to Franks music. Dweeze studied Franks style down to the strange picking style frank used, and the very odd modalitys Frank played. Dweeze has earned my respect for the rest of my life. I will se him always
I have pretty much ended seeing any other acts other than the Steve Morse band and ZPZ/Dweezil. Both acts are pretty much all you need to enjoy great concert experiences.
I saw Dweezil's band about a year ago. They warmed up RTF II. There sound was so fucking good. The drummer is awesome. I'm a huge RTF fan but really I thought they blew RTF away and thats saying something. Just a great band and would go see them again. Even my wife who wouldn't know Zappa if it hit her in the head really really liked what she heard. Great fucking band. Frank approves man.
Hey Tim (Mr Bungle) Yea man was a great show for sure! Good to see you there!! Who knows which show we'll grace next! Jeff and I were both in awe the whole time. you were definately vibin after the show! Dennis
@scottytrotter Oh yeah. Well pointed out. I started early (at 4.10) but now that I've listened all the way through I've also spotted that immediately after Black Dog he briefly goes into Four Sticks from the same album.
I'll bet Zappa gets really tired of being compared to his father but since he looks and plays so much like him he may as well go all the way with the long hair and the moustache.
Shut up and play yer guitar!😉

And you dude you can play anyone not
Wassup Dweezil is a practicant or what ❗ don't know many instruments you play okay happy Sunday mate
What is this drummer's name please ?
Cat rippin that bass
Who was the drummer?
I think that it is fair to say that Dweezle Zappa has bacome one of the top guitarists of this day in rock and roll. He has done AMAZING justice to his dad's music. The whole family seems to have amazing talent, intellect and soul!
At least 1 family factory where generation ahead going ahead wahoo
that Bass player has those "Special Fingers" .. great tribute to Frank's groove on this track.
Vintage Jappa's not like jack Bruce though
Thunderfingers!
I saw Dweezil at the Culture Room in ft.lauderdale awhile back. It was the best concert I've ever attended.
He looks so much like his dad sometimes and his playing is incredible. I know Frank would be proud
Very nice! The bassist gives a respectful nod to Jack Bruce's fuzzbass solo on the original, but then makes it his own baby... Dweeze, you done yer dad proud on that SG!
That's not a SG.. that's a Les Paul..
Uhhhhh....that ain't a SG....
SG means solid guitar so he's sorta right
DZ is the only Zappa band that can bring tears to my eyes. Just Incredible!!!
I was in the crowd for this one. Helluva good show. My first and so far only concert, too.
That's a way cooler first concert than mine--Air Supply 1983.
@@bennylevine387 haha hey ya gotta start somewhere!
I was in the crowd, there, it was my very first concert, and it was a helluva show.
Also, it was pretty loud, there were some loud whistlers behind me who almost blew my eardrums out.
I saw him yesterday at the Theatre at Westbury. It was AWEsome! Got my cd signed, chatted a bit, and got a pic with him. I am happy!
Dweezil has become his Own Guitarist. Amazing at what he has done to carry on his Dad's legacy.
I loved the show. One of my favorite FZ albums and it was very well done!
Thank you Dweezil. Ive sure enjoyed your shows.
Seeing him in 3 days! So Psyched! I love Dweezil! And the whole ZPZ band. Frank I'm sure is quite proud!
To all the shred-o-matic finger jockeys out there: Dweezil is the real deal. It’s much, much harder to play good, well-chosen notes than it is to play all the notes. And let the music breathe sometimes. Rests are part of music, too.
Dweezil is a talent in his own right.
Oh Yeah!!!!! still love this one!
I stopped going to concerts a few years ago because I have an eye disease and can't see anything in the dark, but I think I'd make an exception to see Dweezel play Frank's music.
Nice blend of what was needed of Jack !
GOOD ONYA SON !!!!!
I miss Jack Bruce when I hear this.
I love jack Bruce Mark wa
Of course Jack played on this track on the album , he and Jim Gordon were both given a co- composer's credit .
So true. He just shat on one of the best bass runs of all time
Jack himself denied playing the bass on this track. Very honest of him - I'd be proud.
@@shaggy4593 so true. He tried to do something different but he forgot he aint jack bruce
EXACTLY..."...Lets enjoy Frank;'s Music :)" And who not better than Dweezil??? I am really enjoying Dweezil...and his great talent. and he is for shore easy on the eyes!!!
.
a few cool Zeppelin quotes there. I was lucky enough to see this live great show.
You are right about the zeppelin references, wouldn't have noticed them without your comment!
well to take on any of franks musical notations has got to be scary The Dweeze does very well..and i am so thankful that he works his ass off to bring this music to us,...also all the supporting musicians and they know who they are thank you..too bad that guy to the left cant move his bloody head
zappa is, and always be, zappa.
thank's for the post.
Cool. This act is better than I thought. I'll be damned if Zappa's music ever dies
OUTSTANDING
Pete is my favorite ZPZ bass player!
@TheDrey777 - Hear, Hear. I saw Dweezil in Denver last month and I concur with you 100%. I will go to see Dweezil again every chance I get.
Amazing. Is he as good as his dad? Not sure but playing zappas music puts him in the top ten for sure! Love it!
Wow, very nice. Dinna know the boy was keepin da old mans music out there...FANTASTIC! Thanks for posting friend.Mike
Oh and thanks to all that posted here. Its great to see comments form so many Zappa fans!
Long Live Frank! :)
Saw this show in Indy. Totally off the hook! FZ would've been proud!
Going to see ZPZ tonight, can't wait, say Frank several times in the 70's. Love what Dweezil is doing to honor his dad
THIS IS SOME OF THE COOLEST STUFF I'VE EVER SEEN... TOPNOTCH !!!
I love Moncton !! :-)
Kirk..Montreal, Canada
I'm very greatful for Dweezil and the best bend ever assembled. I got to see his father&co live a few times and I did not appreciate it, it was background music for the "me" show and I just did not understand and was only concerned with getting laid (I was a teenager, sue me).

So true! I saw them in Amsterdam and being an admirer of his music since WOIFTHM I was blown away by their sound. They rock!!!
Frank is the man. Dweezil will say that as well.
He's simply paying tribute to his Dad's music. :)
Hah! Anybody else catch how he threw in a bit of The Ocean and Four Sticks into that solo..? Love it.
Musically there best tune
Distorted bass jam and killer lead jam. Studio version is the best.
DZ is just a totally awesome amazing musician.
Thanks for posting this Denis. That was a great show....probably the best (out of many) individual performance I saw that year. I had a great run in the summer of 2010....saw this ZPZ show on July 5th and went to the Crossroads Festival in Chicago.
I'm a father of 5, what greater joy than your kids keep your memory alive?
Great stuff !
Zappa definitely did this kind of stuff live. Covering a chord progression or a bit of a well known riff here and there. ZPZ is as close to the real thing we have to hearing zappa's music live now. Until Frank decides to end his eternal rotation around the earth (death) and return home.
I love it!!!!!

Gotta love this guy, he remains me so much to his father but it's a shame that he doesn't play his own music oftenly
Genius.
Original drummer on this song was renowned session drummer Jim Gordon, who later lost his mind in a real tragedy.
They played apostrophe at the show I seen annnd Peter's solo had me stunned! Very good bass player!
FZ's music is worth keeping alive on stage, that's for sure. Saw ZPZ at the greek theatre in L.A. with Return to Forever. Dweezil makes that Les Paul sing
This is why I will never miss another Z plays Z concert..
There is No Better Way to Pay Tribute to a GFather than ZPZ......Right On, Dweezil !!!
Joe has actually left DZPZ after the last tour. He is still employed by the ZFT and will continue on as the Vaultmeister.
That is just great
It took alot of guts to try and step into daddy Franks shoes. Frank would be proud. I watched this thinking no way could he pull this off. Excellant job ! Bass player awsome too. Was pleasantly surprised.
Saw them at Clearwater. Bad ass band. They sounded great. Drummer is
really really talented.
...when you are a true master.
Frigin Excellent Bass..Bad Ass Thats The Way You Play a Fender Jazzzer Bass !!!
A beauty!
The son ROCKS IT!!!
too good, so underrated
he might be only his kid Its still bad ass thanks dad
Awesome Travis! You picked a great one to start concert going with! Alas, other bands have lots to live up to now. haha. Cheers!
definitely did the Jack Bruce line justice!!#@ props
Great!!!
we miss you frank....
Love Dweez... the bass player is brilliant in this Vid!!
Keith Hall Not bad Keith, but not as good as Jack Bruce on the original!
Andy Thomas How are you Andy, well I hope mate? I never knew Jack Bruce played with Frank! Keith Hall Check out the Leatherette bootleg there's an outrageous sequence where the band take the riff from Whole Lotta Love and beat it to death!
Keith Hall Yeah the original 'Apostrophe' is a power trio FZ/Jack Bruce And Jim Gordon.

Who is RTF?
Dweezil said that he was not his dad,and the music was for a new audience, saying that the bass player nailed it.
I agree. Different is not necessarily worse.
The world's finest optional entertainment.
~cool clip...greetings from 2 musicians (sitar & tanpura) from germany........(maria & harald,road to himalaya)...~
Pete Griffin is great. Hope he earns a big name for himself someday.
Pete Griffin on bass. Phenomenal!!
Glad to post!
Musical Master . Zappa
Hey Tim (Mr Bungle) Yea man was a great show for sure!
Good to see you there!! Who knows which show we'll grace next!
Jeff and I were both in awe the whole time.
you were definately vibin after the show!
Dennis
Thank you 4 the video and Sorry for that finger running around
Nice chords by Dweezil during the Jack Bruce solo
I love how he stuck the tune from NO QUARTER in there at mn 4:27.
No, but I caught The Ocean and Four Sticks! Guess I gotta watch it again!
jours de mon anniversaire!!! 05 julit domage je louperais l olympia
I like the way Dweezil wove some Jimmy Page/Led Zeppelin into his solo!
I appreciate the clarification!
Cheers
Smokin'!!

@lghalihaf actually was "Black Dog" followed by "Four Sticks"
@MrBlaineyboots it's both, and he does four sticks too
That's the crux of the biscuit! Needs more fuzztone though. The Page licks fit in quite nicely, who knew?
Not bad from what I hear from the noisy sound, but as always the original recording is usually the best!
Cara,genial
